This is the frightening moment a 3m great white shark started stalking a surfer back to shore - on the very spot where just two weeks before another man lost his arm and hand in a shark attack.

Andy Johnston was surfing at West Beach near Perth, when folks ashore spotted the dark shadow looming and began honking their horns as a warning.

Incredibly, he escaped unharmed after catching a timely wave. He said he didn't think the shark posed a threat.

"It wasn't that big, it looked smaller than a dolphin. If you're going to say a shark is a threat every time you see one, well that's not true.

Some good sporting acts not only go unrewarded, but they get punished.

Inexplicably, poor Teagan Monfils saw her cross-country running dreams crushed as she was unceremoniously disqualified for carrying a stricken rival over the finish line.

Her incredible act of sportsmanship and selflessness earned her the big DQ result by her name for having the audacity to help a struggling fellow competitor.

Monfils, who attends Shawano High School in Wisconsin, sacrificed her own dream so that she could help another runner, something which her coach says gives her harsh result "one heck of a bold

  • Pro kayaker gets sucked into very scary, massive whirpool

Terrifying moment kayaker gets swallowed up by savage rapids.

When not competing, professional kayaker Juanito de Ugarte likes to practice on the Ottawa River. This is lovely, except when a massive whirpool sucks you under in terrifying fashion at the Butcher’s Knife rapid.

Even the best in the world can have nightmare incidents like this when out on the water, particularly if they are trying their luck in an area named the Butcher's Knife Rapid.

The menacing whitewater of the river not only cuts up kayakers who are courageous (or insert an alternative word here) enough to take it on, but much, much more.

Indeed, De Ugarte was swallowed up by the rapids

Table tennis star Zhang Jike's crazy celebration proves very expensive after a big win.

Professional sports stars are often accused of not showing enough passion, particularly after clinching a big victory.

So it must have come as a nasty shock to table tennis superstar Zhang Jike when he displayed said passion after a crowning moment in his career, only to be punished for it.

To be fair, his celebration may have been just a tad over-the-top, as you can see from the video, above.

Zhang was left to immediately regret his crazed reaction to sealing victory at the World Cup in Germany after he saw his $45,000 (£28,000) winner's cheque stripped away just seconds after the end of the
