In a week of curious title celebrations which have included shaving a celebration into chest hair, moonwalking and dropping the winners' trophy off the bus, Barcelona have managed to come up with an even stranger celebration after their Liga triumph.

The Catalan giants sealed a third successive league crown last week and were presented the trophy after Sunday night's home clash with Deportivo La Coruna.

Rather than merely lifting the trophy and bouncing around excitedly, the players pulled out fresh red peppers and started throwing them at their fans.

And they weren't alone - 16,000 peppers were distributed amongst the fans as the celebrations got into full swing.

But why peppers?

According to the Twitter user and Barcelona sage @barcastuff, the peppers symbolise, ahem, fortitude:

"'Amb dos pebrots' (with two peppers)," he explains, "is the Catalan, civilized version of the Spanish 'con dos cojones' (with two balls)."

Whatever the inspiration for this celebration, it was clearly a good day to get T-Shirts made up, as you can see when the team threw manager Pep Guardiola up in the air in triumph.
