Sometimes sports fans - in this case that is probably not a suitable term - really disappoint us and make everyone question what is happening to the activities we love.

One such incident took place on Saturday at the Cream Gorse Handicap in Leicester as an unidentified man charged onto the track during the final 100 yards of a big race.

In a desperate and horribly ill-judged attempt to seize a few seconds of fame, the man with an apparent death wish sprinted alongside the horses, risking his life in the process.

Indeed, the lout was incredibly fortunate to avoid being trampled with the horses in many cases swerving across the track in a final bid to secure a thrilling victory.

Clearly thinking he was being funny and impressive, the man burst from under the railings and could very easily have caused a serious collision.

Fortunately for everyone involved, the jockeys managed to ensure that their horses did not run across the line of the man and he lived to no doubt boast to his friends about his 'bravery'.

The shock from observers at the race quickly transferred to fans expressing their horror and disgust on social media.

@0nTrack added: "What a complete fool, this bloke should have been arrested for endangering horses and riders.

Another poster, @mickkendrick, said: "Just watched some p***k join in a horse race in Leicester - should have never been allowed to get on the race course."

It was a terrible example of how a fan - who likely had too much to drink - made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

He gets this piece of attention only to highlight his stupidity and lament his reckless behaviour.
