Match halted as ball hits camera… twice

World of Sport

An Asian Champions League clash had to be halted after a freak occurrence as a goalkeeper's clearance smashed into an overhead camera during the game.

Nothing particularly unsual in that, you might think, these things happen once or twice a season... except that directly from the restart the exact same thing happened again:

The match in question was the clash between Abu Dhabi side Al-Jazira and Iranian club Esteghlal at the latter's Azadi Stadium in Tehran.

Al-Jazira' keeper Ali Khaseif was the man in question, whose high-trajectory clearances twice made contact with the camera suspended above the pitch.

Given that the 30-inch-wide camera was almost 50 yards away from him and some 100ft above above the playing surface, that must make Khaseif one of the most accurate footballers in the world. Makes you wonder why he's using that precision-engineered right foot on goal kicks when he should be nailing free kicks into the top corner.

Not that Al-Jazira needed his help up front: his side won 2-1 to make it three wins from three in the tournament so far and all but guarantee the club a place in the knockout phase of the tournament.
