With little to note about the new design of Real Madrid's home kit, the attention turned to the players whose dubious honour it was to model the latest version of the famous all-white strip.

Besides the fact that the manufacturers triumphantly declared that the new kit 'featured bits of orange', the main talking point regarding the release on Thursday was which stars were wearing what.

Most notably, Cristiano Ronaldo was confined to a slotting in down the side of a shot as five players - led by second-choice goalkeeper under Jose Mourinho, Iker Casillas - strode towards a camera with a fake stand and fans in the background.

There were a series of individual shots with Casillas, Karim Benzema, Marcelo and... yep, Alvaro Arbeloa. But no Ronaldo!

The handsome Portuguese, who is use to adorning every poster and marketing campaign with his smug smile and spiked hair, did not feature in any of the individual shots released by the kit manufacturers.

Does this mean the prolific forward is poised to leave the club? Probably not. Is it remotely interesting? Well, quite.

As for the gloriously pompous spiel to accompany the release: "Real Madrid is a genuine feeling. Is the real passion for football, for victory, for our history, for the white that makes us different, authentic. There are many ways to feel passion for football, but none that can compare with supporting Real Madrid."
