Margaret Thatcher's granddaughter Amanda was praised for her emotional reading during the former British Prime Minster's funeral but did you know that both she, and her brother Michael, have excelled in sports?

Amanda 19, and Michael 24, have both lived in Dallas, Texas since the divorce of their father Sir Mark Thatcher and his first wife Diane Beckett.

Amanda, who read from the book of Ephesians at the funeral, is a promising athlete at the University of Richmond in Virginia, while her brother was a high school American football star before studying at Texas A&M University.

Amanda is a freshman at Richmond and while at Highland Park High School she won her district title in the 300m hurdles. She also represented her school in the triple jump and has continued both pursuits in college.

Michael was a star of his school's football team and scored two touchdowns in a State Final that was broadcast live on television and played in front of 10,000 fans.

Michael though is now expected to follow in his grandmother's footsteps and move into politics.

Baroness Thatcher had little interest in sport but her husband Denis was a rugby referee and a keen golfer.
