Two sides who competed against each other in a regional football tournament reported one another for fielding an ineligible player and were both kicked out of the competition as a result.

Windsor and Flackwell Heath contested a semi-final of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy on March 6, with Flackwell emerging 3-2 winners in dramatic fashion thanks to a stoppage-time winner.

But in the days that followed, both teams discovered that their opponents had selected players who should not have been allowed to feature.

Flackwell keeper Craig Garrett tended goal for the full 90 minutes, but had played for Harefield in the Middlesex County Senior Cup earlier in the season.

Windsor’s Jason Sheehan was also cup-tied as the midfielder took part in the Berks & Bucks Senior CUP with Chalfont St Peter.

Without an apparent shred of irony, both sides complained to the local FA about what their opponents had done. The Berks & Bucks footballing authorities investigated both situations and duly kicked both sides out of the Trophy for fielding ringers, fining them £100 apiece.
