Video: Tyson sings ‘Girl from Ipanema’

World of Sport

He was the ferocious fighter who terrorised the world of boxing from the age of 20, bit off a chunk of an opponent's ear during a bout, spent three years in jail for rape and ended up bankrupt after burning his way through a £200 million fortune.

Yet former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson showed his softer side last week when he appeared on Brazilian television to sing bossa nova muzak classic 'The Girl from Ipanema'.

It's not the first time the former enfant terrible of the ring has shown his softer side in his later years. He has happily sent himself up in appearances in movies and on TV, and earlier this year revealed that he is now a keen pigeon fancier.

But this latest appearance - in which Iron Mike croons along happily to the iconic song about a girl in Rio de Janeiro - takes the cake.

The strangest thing of all? He's actually pretty good - though mainly thanks to some judicious backing vocals, in which the pianist's mike is turned up much louder than Mike.
