Why were Bayern Munich forced to say sorry for their pictures of Goetze’s unveiling?

Mario Goetze's unveiling as a Bayern Munich player appears to have led to a falling out between major sportswear brands Nike and Adidas.

Goetze, along with fellow new arrival Jan Kirchhoff, turned up to be presented at Bayern in Nike T-shirts - which violated an agreement that the club had with their club shirt sponsor Adidas.

Not only do Adidas provide Bayern with their kit - they also own a 9.1% stake in the club.

That led to a hasty apology from Bayern, with Adidas far from happy.

"The pictures from today's press conference with Mario Gotze have negatively surprised us," said Adidas spokesman Oliver Bruggen according to Spox.com.

"Contractually that is not permissible because it is an official event of Adidas partner Bayern Munich. We have already discussed with Bayern Munich."

In response, Bayern were contrite.

"These T-shirts have gotten by us in the general hustle and bustle and we regret that very much. We have assured Adidas that this will not happen again," said Bayern media director Markus Horwick.

The eagle-eyed among you might be left nodding in understanding at Gotze's t-shirt, but wondering what the fuss was about Kirchhof's.
