Mike Tyson throws first pitch, acts like Tony Sanchez is Evander Holyfield

There's a long history of first pitch fails in baseball. Thankfully, former heavyweight champion boxer Mike Tyson didn't join the list prior to Thursday night's game between the Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates. But he did provide a moment of comedy after the toss. In the Steel City to promote an event on Friday, Iron Mike's pitch may have looked awkward — but thanks to catcher Tony Sanchez's frame job, it was a strike. However, when Tyson posed for a photo with Sanchez following the throw, he acted as if he was going to bite the backstop's ear — a reference to the fighter's infamous bout with Evander Holyfield in 1997. Sanchez appeared to still be caught off-guard by the move before the game when retracing what had happened to his teammates. At least, now he'll have a great story.

I got your back

Moving to the Stanley Cup playoffs, Chicago Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford and defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson teamed up for a brilliant show of opposition against the St. Louis Blues. Blues wing Vladimir Tarasenko was robbed by Crawford during the second period — and if the netminder handn't made the stop, Hjalmarsson was right there to back him up. Alas, the Blues won 4-3 in triple overtime.

Moving on

Finally in college basketball, Missouri men's basketball coach Frank Haith will succeed Danny Manning at Tulsa. Haith was 76-28 in three seasons in Columbia. He served a five-game suspension to open this past season as a result of discipline handed down by the NCAA for failing to promote an atmosphere of compliance while coaching at Miami.
