    Time:90'
    • Benfica
    • Hapoel Tel Aviv
    • 90+3' Referee Aleksei Nikolaev blows the whistle for full-time at the Estadio da Luz, it finishes 2-0 to Benfica. It is a very welcome opening-night three points for Benfica. Hapoel will have learned an awful lot from the experience, but arguably have tougher tests still to come.
    • 90' Coentrao could have added a third, but runs offside when about to be played through. It is the fastest any Benfica player has run for 20 minutes.
    • 88' The game is almost down to walking pace again
    • 85' From nowhere, Hapoel are inches from a goal. Substitute Tamuz turns and smashes the ball against Roberto's right-hand post. No one saw that coming, lucky escape for Benfica.
    • 80' Finally, it looks as if Benfica might be ready to settle for what they have. There is less urgency around the box.
    • 78' Hapoel's Enyeama has no reason to be ashamed tonight, as he makes another great save from Ruben Amorim after the defence pass up possession once again. Saviola skies the rebound over.
    • 74' That second goal looks to have knocked some of the fight out of Hapoel, it will be a long road back from this point.
    • 71' Sub for Benfica, Airton comes on for Aimar, who gets a deserved standing ovation
    • 68' GOAL - and sure enough, Cardozo has come to the party. Sub Pereira forces a fine save from Enyeama, but the ball falls to the striker who will not score an easier goal this season.
    • 67' Enyeama out quickly and bravely as Coentrao races through from left-back for Benfica
    • 65' Saviola gets ahead of his marker after a sweet Benfica move, but can only shoot just wide of Enyeama's right-hand post.
    • 63' Once again multiple Hapoel players are caught offside when in a good situation and moving forward menacingly.
    • 61' Sub for Hapoel, Shivhon for Rocchi. That could have happened half an hour ago, Rocchi has been chasing shadows.
    • 60' Booking for Ben Dayan, the latest man unable to contain Aimar.
    • 59' Shechter's miserable night continues, totally misplacing a pass when clear on the left of the area with colleagues pleading for the ball
    • 57' Sub for Hapoel, Tamuz coming on for Sahar
    • 57' Sub for Benfica, Pereira coming on for Gaitan
    • 55' Pablo Aimar may be 30 now - but he is still a real handful. The skilful No10 wriggles through the Hapoel defence and slips the ball to Cardozo, but he skies his shot badly over.
    • 53' The prolific Cardozo has been ominously quiet in this match so far...but he sends a header just over the bar.
    • 51' Again, a bit of inexperience from the visitors. A well-worked corner, but by the time the cross came in and with the Benfica defence pushing out, at least four men were left offside.
    • 47' There is still hope for the Israelis. Benfica have emerged from a very lengthy break a bit sloppily, conceding possession too easily, and Vermouth almost made them pay with some more tricky wing play.
    • 46' Here we go for the second half in Lisbon...
    • 20.45 It will be interesting to see how Hapoel tackle this half. They showed some naivety, not unexpected, and were getting swamped in midfield by the end of the first half.
    • 45+1' The referee blows for half-time after what has been an entertaining first period.
    • 44' Another clash between Coentrao, shepherding the ball out, and Shechter. Nothing is going the Hapoel striker's way, and again he is left disappointed.
    • 41' That was pretty brutal. Da Silva chops down Saviola, and he almost has a good reason to roll around on the turf. However, from the free-kick, Martins is for once way off target.
    • 39' A great move from Benfica, with Aimar heavily involved, ends with the influential Martins fizzing in a 20-yard shot which Enyeama does very well to tip, diving full-length, just around the post
    • 36' Hapoel have not given this up though, and a fine 25-yard shot with the outside of his right foot from Bondarv forces another excellent save by Roberto
    • 34' Martins is probably the best player on the field so far, and has been exerting some real control in midfield for the home side
    • 31' Argentinian Gaitan maybe should have done better there, volleying wide with plenty of time on the edge of the penalty area. Good chance to double the lead...will it come back to haunt Benfica?
    • 28' Aimar wins a corner as Enyeama comes out to block his run - but the Argentinian's own delivery is cleared
    • 26' Hapoel winger Gil Vermouth may have the name of a popular 1970s drink, but he is starting to make an impression here, teasing a couple of defenders on the right, but nothing comes of the cross
    • 24' Some close-range acrobatics from Benfica goalkeeper Roberto keep his side level
    • 22' When it's not going your way, it's not going your way. Shechter again tussles in the area, this time with Coentrao - but his tumble fails to impress referee Nikolaev, and he gets a yellow card for diving for his trouble.
    • 21' GOAL - and what a fantastic goal it was, too. Aimar's corner from the left looked to have drifted out of danger, but when the ball was pumped back in by Martins, Brazil centre-back Luisao smashed in a superb half-volley from about 15 yards.
    • 17' Hapoel are coming much more into this match. Shechter has just done superbly to get to the line on the right, and his cross only just eludes team-mates arriving in the area.
    • 15' Shechter thinks he has a case for a penalty after being manhandled by Luisao on the left edge of the area, but referee Nikolaev is not interested
    • 13' Former Chelsea striker Ben Sahar and Etey Shechter are straining at the leash for Hapoel waiting for their chance to shine, but their side simply do not have the ball
    • 11' Benfica wide man Gaitan goes to ground very dramatically after a challenge by Bondarv. There is a corner there, but definitely no penalty, the defender got plenty of the ball, despite the treble-roll.
    • 8' Aimar almost finds Cardozo in space at the edge of the area, but the striker's control lets him down and the opening is gone.
    • 5' Fransman and Da Silva have already won important headers, and I imagine they will be happy to do that all night if Benfica lump it up to Saviola, in particular.
    • 3' Scrappy opening exchanges, with neither side able to settle yet - however Hapoel are not looking intimidated on such a famous stage on their big night.
    • 1' And the match is under way...
    • 19.42 Benfica manager Jorge Jesus is prowling the touchline before kick-off, while opposite number Eli Gutman has taken his seat, looking very calm before such a momentous occasion.
    • 19.40 Capacity at the Estadio da Luz is around 65,000 - but tonight it looks a long way short of that, with empty seats everywhere. Hapoel are clearly not the big draw in Group B.
    • 19.34 Benfica's all-South American front two of Paraguayan Oscar Cardozo and Argentinian Saviola are one of the most feared pairings around. It is going to be a tough night for the Hapoel defence, with much of the responsibility falling on centre-backs Douglas Da Silva and Bevan Fransman.
    • 19.26 Eli Gutman has left out Walid Badier, the only Hapoel player with previous Champions League experience. Etey Shechter partners Ben Sahar up front. Benfica keep the midfield diamond formation that served them well last season, with Nicolás Gaitán making his Champions League debut on the left.
    • 19.20 Benfica are twice winners of the European Cup/Champions League, having lifted the trophy in successive years almost 50 years ago in 1961 and 1962. Hapoel, though, are no strangers to silverware themselves. They are reigning double winners in Israel, and have won the domestic league on 12 occasions.
    • 19.14 One man certainly worth keeping an eye on tonight is the Hapoel goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama. Quite apart from how busy he might be in his own goal, he scored a penalty in the aggregate qualifier win over Red Bull Salzburg to reach this stage, and scored five goals for the club last season.
    • 19.07 Tonight's referee in Portugal is Russian Aleksei Nikolayev, from Moscow.
    • 19.06 Hapoel Tel-Aviv: Enyeama, Bondarv, Douglas, Fransman, Ben Dayan, Rocchi, Yadin, Vermouth, Zahavi, Sahar, Shechter. Subs: Ben Shaanan, Shivhon, Badir, Abutbul, Kende, Shish, Tamuz.
    • 19.05 Benfica: Roberto, Ruben Amorim, Luisao, David Luiz, Fabio Coentrao, Carlos Martins, Javi Garcia, Gaitan, Aimar, Saviola, Cardozo. Subs: Julio Cesar, Airton, Jara, Maxi Pereira, Nuno Gomes, Cesar Peixoto, Sidnei.
    • 19.04 The teams are here...coming right up
    • 18.55 It is a huge step up for both sides, who were playing in the Europa League last season - but especially for Hapoel, who have never played in the group stages before. Benfica are back in the big time after a two-year absence.
    • 18:50 Just under an hour to go until kick-off at the Estadio da Luz - and the home crowd of Portuguese champions Benfica will be expecting to hit the ground running in Group B against Hapoel Tel Aviv
