    • Benfica
    • Manchester United
    • 90'+2 There it is! All over in Lisbon and it ends all square! Far from a convincing performance by United, but they won't be all that upset at dropping a point at Benfica.
    • 90' Cesar comes on to replace Gaitin, who appears to have picked up a knock.
    • 89' Nani clashes with Nolito with the United man suggesting the subsitute is playacting a little.
    • 87' Nolito! Lovely approach play from Benfica, but the substitute can only prod into the side netting!
    • 86' Smalling gets on the end of a cross into the box, but his control lets him down! The offside flag is up anyway...
    • 85' Jones storms forward now as United seek to snatch a late winner! He ends up winning a corner.
    • 83' Carrick wins a free-kick in midfield and United will be able to build from the back.
    • 82' Benfica have conceded at least two goals in each of their last five Champions League games. Perhaps there's still hope for United?
    • 80' Ten minutes left and this one's still up for grabs.
    • 78' United replace Fabio with Jones.
    • 77' Gaitin! Oooh! Great effort that is dealt with equally admirably by Lindegaard, who tips round the post for a corner!
    • 75' We really haven't seen much from the 'white Pele' Wayne Rooney tonight. Disappointing.
    • 74' Benfica make another change as Aimar is replaced by Matic.
    • 72' Evra surges forward once again... he wants a free-kick but he's not going to get one. Goal kick to Benfica.
    • 71' Nolito clips a great ball through for Cardozo to run on to... Lindegaard comes off his line and turns it behind for a corner!
    • 70' Twenty minutes remaining and both sides look like they're capable of scoring another.
    • 69' Gaitin sees yellow now for leaving a leg out on Hernandez.
    • 68' Double change for United: Nani and Chicarito on, Valencia and Fletcher off.
    • 67' Emerson plays a neat one-two with Nolito before homing in on goal and flashing a shot just wide of the far post!
    • 66' What a save by Lindegaard to deny Nolito! Benfica surge forward but the substitute is denied by a super stop, low down to his left!
    • 65' Hernandez is about to make an appearance...
    • 64' Carrick goes into the book as he brings down Gaitin, who was threatening to break quickly.
    • 63' GIGGS! Brilliant again from the veteran as he latches onto a dummy by Rooney, dances past two challenges and clips goalwards! Artur gets just enough on it to divert the ball past the post though!
    • 62' Park gets to the by-line before cutting back a cross... but no one's there to get on the end of it!
    • 61' Nolito hauls down Park and that's enough to earn the Spaniard a booking.
    • 60' But here's Evra, making a burst forward... and he wins a corner off Luisao!
    • 59' Cardozo looks for Aimar but his pass is overcooked this time.
    • 58' United have reverted to how they were playing before the break - pretty uninspired.
    • 57' Fabio deliberates for ages on a throw and in the end he just ends up giving the ball to Benfica! Not the best from the Brazilian.
    • 56' The hosts make a change now: Nolito comes on, in place on Amorim.
    • 55' Aimar now buys himself some space before firing goalwards! It flies wide of the post!
    • 53' Pareira strikes the post with a fierce low drive! But the flag is already up for offside and it wouldn't have counted anyway.
    • 51' Benfica are enjoying plenty of possession now...
    • 50' Here come Benfica though with Amorim... they're still happy to play a patient game, but this time Fabio breaks up their attack.
    • 49' That's a promising start to the half by United. Already far more incisive than the previous half.
    • 48' Valencia squares the ball across the face of goal! It reaches the far post but there's no one there to knock it in!
    • 47' That Giggs goals means the United veteran has become the oldest Champions League goalscorer at the age of 37 years and 289 days and also overtakes Raul as the player to have scored in the most Champions League seasons. That's 16 seasons in all.
    • 46' Here we go! Back under way at the Estadio da Luz!
    • 45'+1 Just one minute of added time played at the end of the half before the referee blows up and calls time. All square at the break, but that slightly flatters United, whose early season form had deserted them for most of the opening period.
    • 45' Fabio looks to play a one-two with Fletcher but the return pass is overhit and with Fabio tumbling, the ball goes out for a goal kick.
    • 44' United clear their lines break quickly, with Giggs eventually looking to find the head of Park in the middle! Behind for a corner!
    • 43' Park and Pereira tangle on the Benfica right and the hosts win a free-kick.
    • 42' GOAL! GIGGS! What a strike! A stunner from the veteran to haul United back onto level terms! It's out of nothing really, as Giggs cuts in from the right hand side and absolutely leathers a screamer into the top corner! 1-1 now and United are back in it!
    • 41' Fletcher wins a free-kick, but Luisao is there to clear the dead ball.
    • 40' There'll be a booking for Aimar here as Rooney completely does him with a delightful turn and the Argentine hauls him down.
    • 39' Aimar sends over a probing cross into the United box and Fabio heads behind for another Benfica corner.
    • 38' With little getting through on the ground, United plump to lump a long one forward... but Rooney's never going to beat Luisao in the air.
    • 37' It goes short and Aimar tries to beat Lindegaard at his near post... the Dane is equal to his effort this time.
    • 36' The ball falls to Luisao at the back stick but his effort is blocked behind for another corner!
    • 35' This is pretty sloppy stuff from United at the moment...
    • 34' Giggs gives the ball away in a dangerous area... Javi Garcia brings it forward for Benfica, but Valencia races back to make a crucial challenge.
    • 33' Javi Garcia brings down Park and United will have a free-kick.
    • 32' The ball appears to strike Evans on the arm... no free-kick given, but the United centre-back is looking increasingly susceptible.
    • 31' Evans again looks shaky as he slips with Aimar taking down a long ball forward... the Argentine blots his copy book with an ill-advised effort from distance though, which flies in the stands behind Lindegaard's goal.
    • 30' That's better from United though, as Giggs turns beautifully and they charge forward. Nothing comes of the move, but that really was lovely from Giggs.
    • 29' But they're lacking a bit of spark today and at the moment Benfica are controlling the game.
    • 28' United have won more games than any other club in the history of the Champions League (96, since 1992/93).
    • 27' Rooney is shown a yellow card for an aerial challenge on Artur - the reason Jesus was aggrieved in the first place.
    • 27' The ref's got a problem with Benfica coach Jorge Jesus here... he goes over and has a word with him and appears to give him a warning.
    • 26' That's the first time United have conceded on their travels in this competition since the quarter-final two seasons ago at Bayern Munich.
    • 25' Evans looked pretty leaden-footed then... but what a super strike from Cardozo.
    • 24' GOAL! Benfica open the scoring! And it's that man Oscar Cardozo who finishes brilliantly past Lindegaard! He controls a long ball forward on his chest before turning Evans in one swift movement and firing low into the left hand corner! Tremendous strike!
    • 23' Lindegaard has looked solid so far. Perhaps that's what De Gea needs: some competition for his place.
    • 22' Smalling looks for the run of Valencia but the youngster overcooks his pass and the ball runs all the way out for a goal kick to Benfica.
    • 21' Javi Garcia bundles over Rooney and United have a free-kick.
    • 20' Aimar looks to thread a ball through for Amorim... Evans is there to cut it out, but the ball falls kindly to Cardozo! He fires on target, but Lindegaard gets down well to make the save!
    • 19' And that challenge has prompted Phil Jones to start warming up. He'll be desperate to get a game tonight, and get a first taste of Champions League football.
    • 18' Fabio is clattered by Emerson down by the corner flag, but the ref again refuses to call a foul.
    • 17' Ooh! Gaitan flashes a shot wide of Lindegaard's post! Any kind of curl on that effort with the outside of his boot and that would really have tested the United keeper!
    • 16' Here come United again, looking to build from the back. It's been quite a slow start to the game, with both sides patient in their play.
    • 15' This is a decent little period for Benfica, ending with a long-range effort from Gaitan that sails over the bar.
    • 13' Elsewhere, have a first goal of this Champions League night! Who got it?
    • 12' Smalling climbs above Cardozo to win a header, but he's pulled up for a foul.
    • 11' Up go the whistles again as United bring the ball forward... Giggs looks to thread a pass through for Rooney, but it's well cut out by Luisao.
    • 10' Valencia has a stab at goal from a tight angle... he hits it well enough but it's well wide.
    • 9' Lindegaard claims the corner without any problems and his quick throw out finds Rooney.
    • 8' Cardoza and Gaitin link up well through the middle... Smalling is there though to make the challenge. It's the first corner of the game to Benfica!
    • 7' Fletcher, back in the side after a lengthy lay-off with an illness - plays it out to Park, but the ball takes a touch off a Benfica shirt and it'll be a United throw.
    • 6' Giggs fails to bring the ball under control as he looks to take it on the turn and Benfica regain possession.
    • 5' Here goes Valencia on his first run of the night... he gets past Emerson but his clipped cross is plucked out of the air by Artur.
    • 4' A chorus of whistles sound every time United get possession as the home crowd look to make it an uncomfortable as possible for the visitors.
    • 3' Lindegaard gets his first touch... and it's a relatively confident one as he clears to safety.
    • 2' Patrice Evra captains United tonight, in the absence of Vidic and Ferdinand.
    • 1' Here we go then! Under way in Lisbon!
    • 19:43 Here come the teams... United are in their away blue strip tonight with Benfica in their traditional red shirts.
    • 19:40 Kick-off is fast approaching at a packed Estadio da Luz as an eagle soars down into the stadium.... En route to last season's final, United did not concede a single goal in their six away games, collecting five wins and one draw.
    • 19:35 It's not just United and Benfica in action tonight, Manchester City also play - in a mouthwatering clash with Napoli - as do Bayern, Inter and Real Madrid, amongst others. Follow every game LIVE here
    • 19:30 Of course, United have that huge Premier League contest with Chelsea to come at the weekend, when their storming early season form will be properly put to the test. Watch highlights here (UK only)
    • 19:25 Just look at United's bench tonight - De Gea, Jones, Owen, Anderson, Berbatov, Hernandez, Nani. With the exception of Michael Owen, every one of those players would walk into most sides in Europe. PHOTO: United player train at the Estadio da Luz
    • 19:20 For Benfica, Nolito has been omitted in favour of Ruen Amorim as coach Jorge Jesus looks to pack his midfield. Luisao partners Ezequiel Garay in the middle at the back while dangerman Pablo Aimar lines up in the hole behind Oscar Cardozo.
    • 19:15 Fergie had said pre-match that he would likely return to an experienced side for this one - and he largely has, with the obvious exception of Lindegaard in goal. Incredible really, when United make eight changes to a team that scored five against Bolton and still put out a side like this. Ferguson puts target on Aimar
    • 19:10 So, Anders Lindegaard gets the nod in between the sticks for United, with Ferguson making eight changes to the side that beat Bolton on Saturday. Darren Fletcher and Antonio Valencia also make their first starts of the season while Fabio returns to the right-back berth and Chris Smalling is shifted inside alongside Jonny Evans. But Dimitar Berbatov has to again settle for a place on the bench.
    • 19:05 And tonight's referee is Damir Skomina (Slovenia).

    • 18:55 Of course, most famously, these two sides met in the 1968 final at Wembley when United secured their first of three European Cups with a 4-1 win.
