  • Live Commentary

    Time:90'
    • BATE Borisov
    • Lille OSC
    • 90+5 Full time and it's a 2-0 win for Lille. Almost the worst possible result for both sides - Lille needed to score three to have a chance of coming third and now finish bottom; BATE now sweat on Valencia beating Bayern, and must beat the Germans themselves, in Munich. Tall order.
    • 90+5 The corner is half cleared but Filipenka sends a weak, dragged shot well wide.
    • 90+4 Corner to BATE after Kontsevoi meets a long throw, blocked behind off a defender.
    • 90+3 Corner to Lille down the other end now - if they snatch a goal they'd have a chance of third, but it amounts to nothing.
    • 90+2 Bordachev on the move though, mazy run into the box but he goes down very easily, looked like a slip.
    • 90' Five minutes added time as Gueye rolls around following a heavy tackle from Radkov.
    • 89' Cleared from about a yard shy of the line by Bonnart after the keeper only half-stops Rodionov's shot.
    • 88' Sivakov fouls Gueye and BATE have a free-kick.
    • 87' Pedretti is missed so will miss the match at home to Valencia, which looks increasingly like it may be a dead rubber.
    • 86' Bit of scrappy defending but Lille clear their lines. Not much urgency from BATE.
    • 85' BATE SUB: Olekhnovic is replaced by Vasilyuk.
    • 84' Poor control by Rodionov after he'd managed to race away, the ball bobbling out for a goal kick.
    • 83' Kontsevoi with a mazy run down the right but the cross doesn't land for Bressan and the visitors clear.
    • 82' It's a free-kick to BATE, who need three goals to keep their Champions League hopes alive, but Rodelin is feigning injury again. They get him off.
    • 81' Rodelin is down again, wasting some time as ever.
    • 79' Offside on Olekhnovich. This match has descended into a dirge, and it was already a dirge.
    • 78' LILLE SUB: Bonnart on for Martin; BATE SUB: Sivakov on for Hleb.
    • 76' Meanwhile a Hleb cross almost swerves in over Elana via a boot of a defender, but the keeper readjusts to save.
    • 75' UEFA are saying it was a second yellow so we'll take their line, even though the ref showed a straight red.
    • 74' This ref has got too much wrong today to warrant reffing at this level - firstly the yellow to Bressan, and now that. Sidibe sort of clipped Bordachev but I didn't see that as a second yellow, let alone a straight red. He can't believe it either.
    • 73' Sidibe is shown a red card after clipping an opponent - he'd already been booked, you'd hope that was a second yellow but it appears to have been a straight red!
    • 71' The Bressan delivery is poor, high and wide of those waiting in the box, and the goal.
    • 70' Hleb has barely got on the ball this match. He wins a free-kick though after a pull from Sidibe.
    • 69' LILLE SUB: Payet comes on for Kalou.
    • 68' Corner BATE, Bressan takes but Lille clear again.
    • 67' Bit of a grind this second half - Lille need a goal, BATE don't want to concede one.
    • 66' Push by Kalou as he lost the ball on the edge of the box.
    • 65' LILLE SUB: Roux comes on for Bruno, a fine debut for him.
    • 64' A Bressan cross from the left morphs into a shot that Elana claims easily.
    • 63' SCRAMBLED WIDE! Rozenhal I think got the last touch as that free-kick bounced about in pinball style. Looked like no-one could see the ball!
    • 62' Pedretti gives away a free-kick on the BATE right. Bressen surely to whip it in...
    • 61' Olekhnovich is fine to continue after some magic hands.
    • 60' Olekhnovich has picked up an injury, his back it seems... The medics are on...
    • 59' Final warning for Bressan after a collision with Gueye. He was booked for no apparent reason and, had he been sent off, it would have been a double injustice as Gueye dived there.
    • 58' Bressan feels he was obstructed by Sidibe as the Lille man shepherded it out for a goal kick but the ref ignores him.
    • 57' It went out for a corner in the end but BATE deal with that and now have a free-kick.
    • 56' OFF THE LINE BY RADKOV! All kinds of mess as first Bordachev makes a hash of clearing, the keeper flying out and bodies everywhere as Martin put it towards the empty goal.
    • 54' Sorry, it was Rodelin not Martin, a very delayed reaction after landing following a header. He's up and walks off for a water.
    • 53' Martin is down injured after a heavy fall...
    • 52' Lille now have a corner on the right. They need a third but not from that delivery, headed out for a throw.
    • 50' The ball rebounded off Bressan according to the ref, so Lille have a goal kick.
    • 49' BIG SAVE ELANA! His first real act today and he keeps out Bressan's finish after his defence failed to clear a fairly tame Kontsevoi cross!
    • 48' Hleb rolls around on the icy turf after a foul by Sidibe. Free-kick and a booking.
    • 47' Now Lille stride forward on the break, they have men over but can't find Kalou and BATE clear.
    • 46' Hleb is played in but, with his back to goal, he can't dig out a shot and the visitors clear.
    • 46' The second half is underway.
    • 46' BATE SUB: Kontsevoi on for Volodko, a forward for a midfielder.
    • - HALF-TIME STATS: BATE with 58% possession but similar number of attempts on goal, 6-7, with Lille keeper Elana barely tested.
    • 45+1 Lille have a corner, which is cleared, and the ref blows for the break. 2-0 to Lille in atrocious conditions.
    • 45' Bressan is booked for some reason, no idea what he did to warrant that. The ball ricocheted off the ref as the Brazilian tried to wriggle away, was it for handball? It didn't hit his hand, and if it did it's because it struck the ref. Bizarre.
    • 44' Long shot from Olekhnovich blocked before it troubles Elana.
    • 43' Lille counter again as Martin drifts forward, but Rodelin shoots weakly at Gorbunov.
    • 42' Gueye with a foul on Hleb, taken quickly as Bressan runs with it, now Olekhovich and he returns to Bressan but he shoots well wide.
    • 40' Just wide from Bruno after a fine run from Kalou down the left! Gueye involved too.
    • 39' Bressan with a foul on Gueye after the Lille man managed to block off his run.
    • 38' Having cleared up somewhat, the fog has heavied again. Can barely see the ball now.
    • 37' Volodko with an effort from just inside the box but straight at Elana.
    • 36' Scrappy now as both sides trade fouls.
    • 34' Bruno has been booked for some reason, not sure why. Backchat perhaps.
    • 33' Lille counter again but BATE snuff it out this time. BATE's defending has otherwise been amateurish today.
    • 32' Fine run past the right-back by Digne, and the two youngsters combine as the low cross is poked past the keeper by Bruno. Terrible defending all round though. That means Lille are one goal short of moving ahead of BATE on head-to-head, meaning a home win over Valencia next time out could see them pip the Belarusians for a Europa League slot.
    • 31' GOAL LILLE! Bruno makes it 2-0, scoring on his Champions League debut after fine wide-play from left-back Digne!
    • 29' Lille clear their lines after another BATE attack. Lille just sitting deep and looking for long balls and set plays. And, given the conditions, why not?
    • 27' Volodko is offside as he gets on to a Bressan pass.
    • 26' BATE get it forward but they perhaps overplay it as Lille get numbers back. Rodionov sends Bressan down the right but his cross just misses Baga's head.
    • 25' Now Lille have a free-kick on the left wing, which Marvin Martin will swing into the box. Headed on goal via a deflection, the keeper makes a hash of keeping it in and almost gifts it to Bruno. Odd keeping.
    • 24' Break in play as Lille have a throw, no-one really complaining as they slow it down.
    • 23' The half-filled stadium is noisy enough as the "home" fans try to roar on an equaliser. Very scrappy still though.
    • 21' Gorbunov, the BATE keeper, comes rushing out of his box as Kalou races on to a Gueye header, but he makes a right hash of the clearance, which drops to Bruno who shoots from range to the unguarded net but sends it over!
    • 20' Bressan almost gets in behind a sloppy Lille defence but the ball spins out for a goal kick.
    • 19' BATE should have equalised after Rodionov finds himself unmarked on the right side of the box after the keeper Elana fails to intercept a low cross from Polyakov. He fired high and wide though from a tight angle.
    • 17' Olekhnovich fires high and wide after good build-up play from his team-mates! BATE are playing all the football, but they trail from Lille's first real attack.
    • 16' Bressan manages to wriggle clear of the Lille defence but Digne I think gets a toe on it.
    • 15' That goal came from a loose clearance from Polyakov, whose mis-kick landed at the feet of Sidibe (not Gueye - no. 15 not 5, hard to see in the fog).
    • 14' GOAL LILLE! Great strike from Sidibe on the right side of the box, sending a magical dipping short from just outside the area into the top left! No chance the keeper, even if he could have seen it!
    • 13' BATE attempt to play some one-touch football down the right, Bressan leading the way, but it's hard to make things stick and Lille clear.
    • 12' Rodionov is offside as Bressan plays him through.
    • 11' Bressan turns off Pedretti, who clips him from behind.
    • 10' The fog has thinned a touch so we can see the ball a bit better - the quality of play is yet to improve though.
    • 8' Elana is making his Champions League debut for Lille with regular keeper Mickael Landreau on the bench. Shows how seriously they're taking this.
    • 7' BATE again have it in the visiting boss, but Rozhenal manages to clear.
    • 5' BATE had a throw on the right but Lille were able to clear. Back with the home defence.
    • 4' BATE are faring slightly better so far and have the ball in the Lille half.
    • 3' A very scrappy opening, as you would expect given the lack of visibility. Short-range is fine, so the players can pick out nearby team-mates, but anything longer than 20 yards good luck to you.
    • 2' Dreadful weather it has to be said, foggy and freezing. Almost impossible to see the ball, which is white and not a more sensible orange.
    • 1' The first half is underway.
    • 16:55 Dreadful weather in Minsk. You'd think that would favour the locals, what with Lille being out and all. Lille have to win by two clear goals to have a chance of making the Europa League.
    • 16:50 If you have any predictions on this match, comments on Lille’s strange loss of form this season, or just have something Champions League-y to get off your chest, Tweet me @Reda_Maher. I’ll be ‘doing’ Juve-Chelsea later too, so feel free to ask about that. FOLLOW ON TWITTER!
    • 16:45 Tonight’s referee is Marijo Strahonja of Croatia. In four non-domestic matches this season (one international and three Champions League) he has shown 17 yellow cards, no reds and awarded three penalties, all to away sides.
    • 16:40 Slightly longer odds on a BATE win today at 23/20, they had been close to evens; Lille at 12/5 and the draw 9/4.
    • 16:35 FACT: Lille have won just one of their last 13 European games away from home (W1 D4 L8); Lille have won just one of their last 12 matches in European competition (W1 D4 L7); Lille have conceded the most goals in the Champions League this season (12) and half of them have been from outside the box.
    • 16:35 FACT: BATE Borisov have committed more fouls (73) than any other team in the Champions League. BATE Borisov are unbeaten in three games in Europe against French opposition with a win over Lille and two draws with PSG in the 2010-11 Europa League.
    • 16:30 Rudi Garcia (Lille): "Some players stayed back in France because of injuries; others, like Mathieu Debuchy, need a rest after a busy period. Anyway, I trust the young players. They are very enthusiastic and can get the result we expect from them. The main thing is to give it our best. BATE are a strong team, as they showed when they scored three goals before half-time in Lille on matchday one. We had a better second half in that game and we hope to carry on where we left off."
    • 16:25 Viktor Goncharenko (BATE): "We can't say that Lille are in crisis or are a wounded animal. They are a team from a top league and they have a quality squad, so I do not think there is a crisis. We usually try to play our own game in the league but it is a different story in Europe where we try to contain opponents. Our opponents have taken us more seriously since the wins in our opening two games but it is interesting to see what we are capable of in this situation as well."
    • 16:20 For Lille, defenders Aurelien Chedjou (adductor) and Franck Beria (calf), striker Tulio De Melo (adductor) and winger Ryan Mendes (ankle) are all carrying injuries. Eight changes have been made from he 2-0 loss at Lorient, with keeper Landreau dropped and only one defender (Marko Basa), one midfielder (Benoit Pedretti) and one forward (Salomon Kalou) retained. Signe is only 19, while Bruno (21) makes his Champions League debut.
    • 16:15 BATE striker Dmitri Mozolevski suffered a head injury in the weekend draw at Mozyr and is out, while midfielder Aleksandr Pavlov is out until the end of the season with a hamstring problem.
    • 16:10 TEAMS - BATE: Gorbunov, Radkov, Bordachev, Filipenko, Polyakov, Volodko, Renan Bressan, Hleb, Olekhnovich, Baga, Rodinov; Subs: Gulor, Yurevich, Simic, Likhtarovich, Kontsevoi, Sivakov, Vasilyuk /// Lille: Elana, Digne, Rozenhal, Sidibe, Basa, Gueye, Martin, Pedretti, Kalou, Bruno, Rodelin; Subs: Landreau, Soumaoro, Bonnart, Mavuba, Klonaridis, Payet, Roux
    • 16:05 BATE are from Borisov, but their stadium is so small that they play Champions League matches in Minsk at Dynamo's 40,000 seater stadium. Even on nights like tonight - where the cold and Lille's second-string squad mean only half the tickets have been sold - it's worth their while as their usual ground holds under 6,000 people.
