    • 90+3' It's over! Manchester City are OUT of Europe this season less than halfway through! Defeat at Dortmund by 1-0 means Ajax will switch to the Europa League with Dortmund and Real Madrid making the last-16 draw. Thanks for joining us tonight! Full report will be available on the website shortly but in the meantime follow me on Twitter @liamhappe and let me know what you made of the game.
    • 90+2' Dortmund's night of celebration gets a fitting final chapter as Balotelli sees yellow for leading with his arm against Santana and slamming the ball down in protest at the defensive free-kick.
    • 90+1' We will play three more minutes. And it looks like it will be the final three minutes of Manchester City's European campaign this season.
    • 90' Aguero puts Balotelli through, but not only does Weidenfeller block once more, the flag is up. Both keepers have been strong as houses tonight.
    • 89' @pathfindercs says "Do not see it happening, Dortmund seem to have their number." while @count_don_tono refuses to give up hope - "City can still do it. Europa here we come!" - follow @liamhappe on Twitter to tweet over comments until the very end!
    • 88' Bittencourt makes only his second Dortmund appearance (both off the bench) since arriving in the summer, replacing Kirch. And that's it for substitutes.
    • 87' Aguero brings down Schmelzer but no booking. Very lucky not to, in fact.
    • 86' Dortmund are set to make their final sub. 18-year-old pocket rocket Leonardo Bittencourt is ready and waiting on the touchline.
    • 85' The visitors on the break now and Aguero with a decent run and strike which Weidenfeller keeps out.
    • 84' Lewandowski makes an absolute fool of Garcia on the turn but is held off by the centre-backs from having a shot due to a heavy touch. Plays back to Perisic whose cross flies over all waiting receipients.
    • 83' Dortmund still piling it on with an attacking throw, but City clear their lines eventually.
    • 82' LEWANDOWSKI! Takes a touch before having an acute-angled strike blocked by Hart, who did well to make himself big. Three guesses which half-time super-sub assisted that effort for his compatriot...
    • 80' @TheRugbyKid says "ain't gonna do nada, shud 4gt bout Europe and come & take 2nd place in the EPL.." while @teej9999 says "I thik City can definitely still win! Twoate goals from Aguero and Tevez/Dzeko!" and @sheriff79741485 says "it is over" - keep your comments coming by following @liamhappe on Twitter
    • 79' Great defending by Schmelzer in the six-yard box to clear a Tevez centre from the left before Maicon can get onto it. The left-back has had a great game today.
    • 78' The Polish striker starts with good hold-up play under heavy pressure, but on the turn he neglects the open Grosskreutz and fires a wild shot into Row Z.
    • 77' Goalscorer Schieber is withdrawn and Robert Lewandowski will get 13 minutes or so to keep sharp and maybe try to close the deal here for Dortmund.
    • 76' Great Dortmund move sees Blaszczykowski cut back to Leitner from the right, but the youngster's shot is miserably wide. Should have been two assists for the half-time sub.
    • 75' The home fans love it when Schmelzer comes in harsh on Balotelli and gets away with it, knocking the disliked striker to the grass.
    • 74' This is a good period of City possession, but Dortmund are dealing with every attempt to get it into their box.
    • 73' And then, so does Balotelli at the other end. Only to a much harsher reaction.
    • 72' Schieber triggers the flag off Santana's long ball forward.
    • 71' Arsenal are now behind at Olympiacos.
    • 70' Does anyone out there think City can score two in 20 and reach the Europa League after all? I wanna hear from you optimists. Tell me you still have faith on Twitter and we will publish your comment: @liamhappe
    • 68' City's final switch sees Pablo Zabaleta replace Nasri.
    • 67' Tevez almost channels Ricky Villa (the irony, as a City player...) by keeping FOUR defenders at bay as he jiggles into the box and forces a corner off Weidenfeller.
    • 66' Doing his reputation in Germany no favours from the off, Balotelli goes down clutching his face after a slight coming together with Hummels. I believe the reception is mostly in fact down to Italy v Germany at Euro 2012...
    • 65' Jeers surround Signal Iduna Park as Mario Balotelli comes on for Edin Dzeko. Here's why...
    • 64' Almost another great link-up between Blaszczykowski and Schieber, but good standing up by Kompany and Lescott forces the goalscorer to play it back to Perisic who fires over.
    • 63' Grosskreutz and Schieber are just unable to keep a Dortmund counter going. Arsenal have been pegged back to 1-1 by Olympiacos, as have Schalke at Montpellier.
    • 62' Santana, who has grown into the game at the back for Dortmund, takes full command to head a Tevez cross behind for a corner.
    • 61' Lescott picks up a yellow which is either for dissent or an earlier foul.
    • 60' Boerrigter has pulled one back for Ajax at the Bernabeu, but at 3-1 down it's Dortmund's goal that saves Ajax's skin more than their efforts in Spain.
    • 59' Almost two for Dortmund - and two for Schiber! The hosts cutting City to ribbons after the goal and though the striker is played through, he underhits his attempt to chip the outrushing Hart, who catches it.
    • 58' City need two goals in 32 minutes or else they are out of continental competition altogether for the season.
    • 57' GOAL DORTMUND! Schieber slides in to convert Blaszczykowski's low cross inside the six-yard box. What a run and delivery from the Polish sub! 1-0!
    • 56' Sergio Aguero is about to come on for City as they look for the goal that may just keep their European tour chugging along. Sinclair makes way.
    • 55' Schalke have taken the lead at Montpellier, which makes Arsenal's lead in Greece for naught.
    • 54' Another short worked corner and this time City box the home side back to their own half in order to retain possession.
    • 53' Leitner plays superbly off the short corner before teeing up Grosskkeutz to force another Hart save in the near bottom corner!
    • 52' PERISIC! Fantastic volleyed strike on a deep cross from the right and Hart tips it over!
    • 51' Maicon does well to close down a Perisic cross from the left before Schmelzer hashes the follow-up attempt.
    • 50' Dzeko on two occasions in a minute almost presses enough to force an error. He has his working boots on tonight but the cutting edge he displays as a sub isn't here so far.
    • 49' Dortmund free-kick just inside the City half and Hummels is a whisker away from converting it from a few yards out at the far post. Schmelzer's delivery just too fast for him.
    • 48' Kaka has made it 3-0 Real Madrid, but remember that a draw for City is not enough even with Ajax losing if they're to sneak into the Europa League.
    • 47' Early chance in the second for City! Good ball over from the left by Nasri but Dzeko heads from close range straight into Weidenfeller's waiting clutches.
    • 46' And the hosts kick off the second period.
    • 46' HALF-TIME SUB: Reus is withdrawn by Klopp, and on comes Jakub Blaszczykowski, whose surname I now have safely stored to Clipboard.
    • 45+1' Three seconds into stoppage time and the whistle goes. A quiet half with chances few and far between, but the quality of the two sides is slightly visible in the rare opportunities they have created. Will City get the goal that will put them in the Europa League? Let me know via Twitter @liamhappe
    • 45' Dzeko with a low cross as the away side come forward, and Santana puts it out for a corner. Dzeko beats the defender to the delivery at the far post but heads miles wide.
    • 44' Gundogan with a delightful heel flick turns Perisic's chest-down into a one-two and allows the Croat to force another save out of Hart, who holds onto the ball.
    • 43' Dortmund almost trigger an instant counter-attack, but Perisic overhits the final ball toward Schieber.
    • 42' Good pressure now from City, with Sinclair again heavily involved.
    • 41' The other Premier League side in action tonight, Arsenal, have taken the lead at Olympiacos. Champions League: LIVE
    • 40' Commentators get through another quiet spell in the game by name-dropping Lars Ricken and Karl-Heinz Riedle and remembering Dortmund's 1997 CL win.
    • 39' It takes three defenders to snuff out the mazy run into the 'D' by Hummels, of all people.
    • 38' Once more Sinclair gets a better ball in from the opposite side after the corner is half-cleared, finding the head of Tevez who forces a great parry from Weidenfeller! But the flag was up, anyway.
    • 37' The Dortmund back line deal with two straight Nasri deliveries before the Frenchman wins a corner with his third try.
    • 36' Another tame flag kick in a recurring theme, though, and Tevez is back to reclaim possession for the visitors. Dortmund are back on the attack soon after, however, and Reus cuts inside from the left to fire a decent shot wide of the near post.
    • 35' Good interplay between Reus and Schieber sees the latter win a corner on the left-hand side off Nastasic.
    • 34' The corner isn't too troublesome, but Sinclair's subsequent ball in from the other side needs a good header away from Santana.
    • 33' DZEKO! Handy dipping drive from 25 yards is pushed around the post by a diving Weidenfeller!
    • 32' City almost leave themselves open for a Dortmund attack but Maicon intercepts at the crucial moment to win back possession.
    • 30' Perisic takes the free-kick himself, but the cross delivery is caught comfortably by Hart.
    • 29' Garcia gets booked for throwing Persic down to the floor before the Croatian can get a cross in from the left. If City do secure a Europa League spot, he will miss the first match.
    • 28' Callejon has doubled Real's advantage against Ajax. It's safe to say that the Dutch side will probably not handle City's fate themselves tonight. Now the Premier League champions just have to win.
    • 27' Great work by Nastasic to catch up to Reus and stop him getting a shot in after latching onto Grosskreutz' through ball.
    • 26' A Schmelzer cut-back is just behind Schieber moments before the striker can only get minimal contact on a Perisic cross with his head.
    • 25' Poor corner and Nasri is lucky to escape a booking for his lunge in on Kirch.
    • 24' Now it's Dortmund getting caught passing loosely and City create their best chance thus far from it. Nasri's through pass to Dzeko on the left-hand side of the box sees the striker's low cross put behind by Schmelzer for a corner.
    • 23' Leitner has a speculative 30-yard effort blocked off by Barry before Gundogan does well to win an attacking throw off the loose ball.
    • 21' You can see why City have struggled in Europe - their play is so much more careless and optimistic rather than authorative.
    • 20' Santana and Schmelzer work in tandem to deal with a lofted City ball forward.
    • 19' Josh says via Twitter: "City will lose tonight, Dortmund are strong but they left their best players out, but its for the best really"
    • 18' Nasri wastes a potentially useful City counter. Dortmund get the ball and play it back to Weidenfeller to get it out of danger.
    • 17' Tevez tries a run forward right of centre, but he's close enough to left-back Schmelzer's range for the German to cut inside on the cover and dispossess the Argentine.
    • 16' Ronaldo has put Real Madrid ahead against Ajax. Good news for City.
    • 15' Both Garcia and Leitner fluff long-range passes in quick succession as the game grows more loose and erratic.
    • 14' Brazilian centre-back Santana has looked a little uncertain in possession a couple of times and could be a weak link for City to try and exploit.
    • 12' First real chance of the game! Schieber makes his presence felt on the edge of the box and when the back line get the ball off him, it dribbles back to Kirch who forces a catch from Hart with his 20-yard drive.
    • 11' And the Bosnian makes it two flags in two minutes during a very good City passage of play.
    • 10' Dzeko is flagged offside despite a decent Nasri ball almost putting him through.
    • 9' Zagreb v Kiev could be over. With nothing on the line at this stage of their group, the two sides have tried to play through nine minutes of blizzard-like conditions but the players are now heading back to the changing rooms. Multiplex: LIVE
    • 8' Nastasic is covering at left-back with no proper lefties fit for City, not Lescott. So far he is looking comfortable out there.
    • 7' Benzema has had an early goal ruled out for Real against Ajax. Ironic in a way in that Ajax had two struck off this time last year against Madrid in the group stages.
    • 6' City work the throw short but let it carelessly run over the byline for a goal kick.
    • 5' Dzeko is unable to get past Hummels on the right-hand side of the box, with the centre-back clearing for a throw.
    • 4' The hosts are now getting their trademark short, crisp passes going in the middle of the park as they look to assert territory in the contest early on.
    • 3' Dortmund clear the corner before Leitner wins a free-kick on the counter off Barry.
    • 2' City immediately win a free-kick as they take the ball inside the Dortmund half. Barry's delivery into the box is headed behind by Grosskreutz for the first corner of the match.
    • 1' Manchester City kick off the first half and we are underway!

    • 19:15 To recap... Manchester City will qualify for the Europa League if they win and Ajax fail to gain victory. Otherwise, it's the Eredivisie champions who switch competitions and City are out altogether. Dortmund will progress to the last 16 as group winners. Real Madrid also go through as runners-up. Will City salvage something tonight? Let me know what you think on Twitter and we will publish your thoughts - @liamhappe
    • 19:10 Man City boss Roberto Mancini: "We are not thinking of the derby (against Manchester United) this weekend. We have a difficult match coming up here and we brought all our players except the injured ones. Borussia Dortmund are currently one of the best teams in Europe and we have a difficult match ahead of us."
    • 19:05 Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp: "Sometimes in the Champions League clubs tend to rest players when they are through. We hadn't qualified for a long time and we will not do that. For sure, we will bring in some fresh players, but against City you have to play at a high pace if you want to win. We will make some changes. Moritz Leitner, for example, will start."
    • 19:00 Scott Sinclair starts for the visitors, who bench Sergio Aguero and start with Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez up front. Julian Schieber plays lone frontman for Dortmund, meanwhile, with Robert Lewandowski - target of City's rivals Man United - rested on the bench. Both sides name some promising youth players as substitutes, too.
