Odds for this one in case you fancy a flutter: Manchester City 15/8, draw 11/5, Barca 6/4. Teams on their way out for the first leg of this contest.
Barcelona set to operate with a three-man forward line of Alexis Sanchez and Cesc Fabregas supporting Lionel Messi. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has his say after leaving Real Madrid last season. “City have a chance. Of course by history Barcelona are the favourite, but this Barcelona, this season, is showing that it is not the same in previous years. “Of course, they have (Lionel) Messi - he is special - and they have more than him. But I think this is the worst Barcelona of many, many years.”
Gerard Pique of Barcelona: "Perhaps teams don't fear us as much because we have not won this competition for two years. However, they (Manchester City) still respect us as we're a team full of players who have won the World Cup and Champions League. We can still be the best, and this is a great chance to show the world that we have top players that can win this game."
Manuel Pellegrini makes six changes to the starting side from that one that enjoyed a 2-0 win over Chelsea. Aleksandar Kolarov comes in at left midfield with Gael Clichy at left-back. Fernandinho is back from injury. Pablo Zabaleta is retained, but is a booking away from a one-game ban. James Milner is suspended. Martin Demichelis is handed the task of trying to keep Lionel Messi quiet as he returns to partner Vincent Kompany at the heart of the City defence. Joleon Lescott drops to the bench.
Barcelona, meanwhile, have reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in each of the last six seasons, the longest run in the competition. Manchester City have won their last four Champions League games, the best current run. Manchester City’s games are the most prolific in the Champions League this season: they’ve produced 28 goals (18 for, 10 against). Their last three games alone have produced 18 goals.
This will be the first competitive meeting between these two sides. Barcelona are winless in their last five away games against English sides in the Champions League (2 draws, 3 defeats). This is the first season in which Manchester City have managed to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Tata Martino: "This could have been the final. It would have been ideal if we had met them a bit later, maybe in the last eight, because the teams are both very good and City are doing well in the league and in the cups. At the moment it is the perfect time for both teams to come into this game."
Manuel Pellegrini: "Of course when you play against Barcelona, against an important team, you must always consider important things - but the most important thing is to try to be the same team you see every week in the Premier League. It is important to continue having the same style of play and the personality to try to beat Barcelona."
TEAM NEWS: No room in the City side for Samir Nasri. He is on the bench while Neymar is on the bench for the visiting team. City have scored 117 goals this season with Barcelona contributing just the 111. Brave man to predict no goals in this contest.
Breaking news....teams: Manchester City: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Demichelis, Clichy, Navas, Toure, Fernandinho, Kolarov, Silva, Negredo..sub: Pantilimon, Richards, Lescott, Nasri, Javi García, Džeko, Jovetić////Barcelona: Valdés; Alves, Mascherano, Piqué, Alba; Xavi, Busquests, Iniesta; Fàbregas, Sanchez, Messi..subs: Pinto, Bartra, Adriano, Song, Sergi Roberto, Pedro Rodríguez, Neymar.
Paul Parker: "City could end up being like Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle: entertaining and exciting but ultimately coming away empty handed. He has to win something, but the law of averages says that Pellegrini doesn’t win things: he plays good football, but can he bring trophies to the Etihad? Only time will tell."
Paul Parker: "Manuel Pellegrini's claim that Manchester City are now a bigger club than United shows that he doesn’t have a lot of experience of British football. In fact, I don’t even think that City fans would go that far. They have had three good seasons. Just because they have made it through to the knockout stages of the Champions League doesn’t make them the best team in Manchester. This is not the time to come out and start spouting about how far superior they are."
Our resident expert Paul Parker's take on what might go on this evening. As usual, the former England defender Parker doesn't hold back in stating his opinions.
Pellegrini shouldn’t spout off about United until he’s actually won something

Paul Parker believes that Manuel Pellegrini may have spoken too soon when claiming that City are the biggest club in Manchester and also questions the value United will get from Wayne Rooney’s new deal. Continue reading →
