    • Middlesbrough
    • Sheffield United
    • 90+4 There's the final whistle, Gary Speed loses on his managerial debut as Boro get their first league win.
    • 90+3 Another free-kick to United, Taylor to swing it in from 35 yards slightly to the right... A long delay as everyone readies themselves. Good ball in, a bit of panic in the box, Cresswell goes down, Britton digs it out and Bodganovic lashes it well over.
    • 90+2 Ward takes the free-kick but it bounces weakly into Steele's arms.
    • 90+1 Wheater is booked for a pull back 30 yards out. Free-kick United...
    • 90' Four minutes added time.
    • 88' Ward is looking bright enough but his team-mates' running off the ball does not match his endeavour and Boro clear.
    • 87' It's disappointing to see United lacking the spirit of old as they forage for a leveller. Neil Warnock would be spitting fire.
    • 85' Boro are able to clear that corner.
    • 84' Blades counter ,Ward on the ball, good play to beat one man, then another and he clips it far post BODGANOVIC ARRIVES but flicked away for a corner!
    • 82' Boro lacking a bit of spark now, they could be there for the taking.
    • 80' United are bossing the ball but not creating anything. Boro will be happy with that.
    • 78' BORO SUB: Andrew Taylor on for Andy Halliday.
    • 76' UNITED SUB: An attacking change with Quinn on for Nosworthy. 3-4-3 they will go now.
    • 75' Good spell of possession from United as they knock it around from 20 yards and Ward is set up but he fires well wide in the end.
    • 74' Decent play by Blades as Bogdanovic is put in but he seems confused with his back to goal and gives it away when he could have turned on to it.
    • 72' Nosworthy does well to win a throw on the Blades right. His mates give it away though. Lita on the left but good tacjle by Ward.
    • 71' Cresswell gives it away and Robson bombs forward but his shot is blocked. Bates combines with Lita but the ball is cleared by Nosworthy.
    • 70' Late tackle on Bates by Taylor. Nothing too nasty though. Lita comes on for Boyd.
    • 68' A quick look around shows a half-empty stadium on Teesside. Best fans in the world! Meanwhile, hated rivals Newcastle are cruising to victory over Aston Villa. Click HERE for live comments!
    • 67' BLADES SUB: Evans off for Malta striker Bogdanovic.
    • 66' Kilgallon gets in and combines with Arca before crossing but the keeper Simonsen - who's had little to do - claims.
    • 65' Free-kick to United on the left then, taken short for some reason and when the cross comes in everyone has moved up and it flies out for a goal kick. Dreadful.
    • 64' Bates flies in on Cresswell and leaves the former York trainee in agony. Booking.
    • 63' Evans crosses from the right but far too deep. Cresswell picks it up on the left but no-one is in the box as the two strikers both pulled wide.
    • 62' Evans finds Nosworthy on the right but he gives it away and Boro clear.
    • 61' After that spell of United pressure, Boro have regained control of the ball, slowing the tempo.
    • 59' Taylor lofts the corner in but Steele is unchallenged as he claims with ease.
    • 58' Blades are putting decent pressure on, winning a corner on the right.
    • 56' Arca clears the original delivery, and Cresswell fires the rebound well wide.
    • 55' United free-kick around 35 yards out, everyone's up for it...
    • 54' United up the tempo as they try to bring themselves back into this game after that clanger.
    • 52' BOYD SCORES! He may not do much but he can finish. Terrible mistake from Morgan, who lets a straight ball through him - it was a flick on from McDonald - and Boyd nods it forward, races in and slides it bottom right. The Scot opens his Boro account.
    • 51' Boyd, who has barely had a touch today, gets one, and it skips away from him and out. Heskey-esque control.
    • 49' Bartley lets the ball bounce and Cresswell could be in but Nosworthy is across to clear.
    • 48' Arca gets on the ball and after a nice run finds Halliday but United clear.
    • 47' McDonald lives. The free-kick is aimed at him, and he thinks he has won a corner but a goal kick is awarded.
    • 46' McDonald is rolling around holding his face after a challenge from Morgan. He led with the arm, and he has form for that! Somehow no card is shown.
    • 46' Second half underway.
    • - BORO SUB: Arca on for the hosts, with Kink surprisingly replaced.
    • - Both sides have reportedly had two shots on target, with Boro managing three off target. Only one apiece were of any note though.
    • - FAN VIEW: 'Bobby' has a grim outlook on Boro's future - "I bet Southgate is laughing at the mess Strachan has made of the team; he was doing fine until, for some reason or other, the Board sacked him. Middlesborough will be relegated this season and it will be a long, painful recovery from there on. Grass is not always greener on the other side."
    • 45+1 The first half ends. Groans abound from the fans after one of the worst halves of club football I've seen in a while.
    • 45' One minute stoppage time added on. Not sure what for.
    • 44' Kink has it on the right but only Boyd has bothered to get in the box so his cross sails harmlessly out for a goal kick. McDonald was standing idly on the edge of the D, admiring Morgan's craggy jawline.
    • 43' Kilgallon pumps it into the United box but the ball sails out for a throw.
    • 42' Throw to United on the left. It is wasted and Boro clear, but don't hold your horses for a counter attack as the ball is lost again.
    • 41' United with some pressure on the left as Cresswell finds Taylor, but his cross is poor and Boro clear.
    • 39' Kink has a chance to do something but, from around 30 yards, he just blasts it wildly over.
    • 37' That brief spell of excitement was a blip, it turns out. Back to the slog for these teams...
    • 35' Steele just about tips a cross away under pressure from Cresswell. A bit of a flap that was. Corner.
    • 34' Bailey crosses far post and McDonald somehow hooks his foot around it to keep it in. Boyd knocks it back AND KINK WITH THE SHOT FROM RANGE but just over!
    • 33' Decent pressure from Boro, Bailey finds McDonald on the right but his cross is headed away by Nosworthy for a throw on the left.
    • 32' Cresswell robs Wheater but the ref decides he fouled him.
    • 30' Kilgallon is taking some responsibility now, operating further forward almost as a winger, and he crosses but McDonald hasn't got the height to reach that and it drifts away for a goal kick.
    • 29' Kilgallon gets forward and Robson could have some space but he's closed down and United clear.
    • 27' Strachan is having a right pop at his players for this tepid opening, although to be fair this side is almost entirely his creation - only David Wheater remains from Southgate's team, while Matthew Bates was in the reserves back then.
    • 25' Free-kick to Boro 35 yards out but again Robson smashes it into the wall.
    • 24' A slick counter-attacking move by United breaks down as Cresswell tries to be clever in turning on to the pass from Evans on the right, but he doesn't have that kind of skill and simply falls over.
    • 22' The first quarter passes and it is hard to believe that these teams were in the Premier League a few years ago. Gordon Strachan looks like he can't quite fathom it either.
    • 20' Robson to take the corner but cleared by United.
    • 19' Better from Boro as Robson and McDonald combine, corner after the former's cross was blocked.
    • 18' Free-kick to United on the left. Ward tries a routine but those clever moves only work if you know how to pass a football along the ground. Straight to a Boro defender, the home fans jeer.
    • 17' Steele saves at point-blank range from Evans after some shoddy defending let him clean through! Cresswell was given the freedom of the box to find him.
    • 16' Poor free-kick by Robson. Straight into the wall.
    • 15' Taken short by Boro but the ref doesn't like it and makes them re-take. Cresswell gives away another free-kick.
    • 14' Montgomery gives away a free-kick around 35 yards out.
    • 13' United have a free-kick on the left but taken short. Taylor clips it into the channel but no-one is there. Goal kick.
    • 12' Ward on the Blades right takes on Kilgallon, but he closes him down and puts to touch. Good defending.
    • 11' Ertl picks up the ball 30 yards out, playing it wide to Britton who crosses for Evans but over his head for a Boro throw.
    • 10' A tiny bit of excitement as Halliday slides in late on Nosworthy. Free-kick Blades… swung into the box but headed clear.
    • 9' Gary Speed is barking orders from the touchline. Neither side has really tried anything remotely adventurous yet.
    • 8' Taken short but the cross is poor, straight down Simonsen’s throat. Given away by Blades and McDonald could be in but from the edge of the box he drills weakly at Simonsen.
    • 7' Bartley puts the ball out for a corner on the Boro left.
    • 6' Both teams seem content to just play it around at the back, like a couple of late 90s Italian sides.
    • 5' A cagey and surprisingly low-paced start to this game from two sides you would expect to bring a bit of blood and thunder to the game.
    • 4' Cresswell takes a long ball on the chest to try and feed Evans but Boro clear through McManus.
    • 3' Halliday knocks the ball down to McDonald but his touch is heavy and it’s out for a goal kick.
    • 2' Evans picks up the ball on the right but Halliday gets behind him to clear.
    • 1' The first half is underway at the Riverside!
    • 13:15 The teams are out as old Leeds team-mates Speed and Strachan shake hands.
    • 13:10 Including last season, Middlesbrough have only taken three victories in their last 14 Championship matches.
    • 13:05 Sheffield United have won 41 and Middlesbrough 36 of the previous 99 matches between these clubs. But United have won on only one of their last eight visits to Teesside.
    • 13:00 Sheffield United have won only one of their last 14 away league games. Failure to win at Middlesbrough would make it their worst start to a league season since they went six games without a win at the start of the 2006-07 Premier League campaign.
    • 12:55 Boss Gordon Strachan insists there will be no room for sentiment when Middlesbrough face former team-mate Gary Speed's Sheffield United. More here!
    • 12:50 Sheffield United boss Gary Speed is relishing the prospect of taking charge of the side for the first time at Middlesbrough. "They are favourites to go up, they have spent a lot of money so it will be a good test for us," he said. More here!
    • 12:45 So Matt Kilgallon starts for Boro against his former club only two days after sealing his loan move from Sunderland.
    • 12:40 Referee: Dean Whitestone (Northamptonshire)
    • 12:35 TEAMS - Middlesbrough: Steele, Bates, Wheater, McManus, Kilgallon, Halliday, Robson, Bailey, Kink, Boyd, McDonald; Subs: Coyne, Hoyte, Lita, Arca, Luke Williams, Taylor /// Sheff Utd: Simonsen, Bartley, Morgan, Ertl, Taylor, Ward, Montgomery, Britton, Nosworthy, Evans, Cresswell; Subs: Aksalu, Bogdanovic, Yeates, Kozluk, Quinn, James, Chapell
