    • - Thanks for joining me tonight. West Ham did not look like title challengers on that showing but the Championship is all about the grind and it is a big win for them. Brighton, meanwhile, need to start looking at consolidating after that great start to the season comes to an end. Have your say about that match with me on Twitter.
    • 90+9 Piquionne with a superb mazy run but a poor finish into row Z and that's it! West Ham win to go second! They rode their luck and Brighton will see this as three points thrown away.
    • 90+8 McCartney on the ball now, he finds himself quite high upfield and runs it out for a goal kick. Eight minutes up...
    • 90+7 Almunia takes all day to kick the free-kick upfield. No warning though.
    • 90+6 Faye with a foul just inside his own half. Lumped in by Harley but headed away by Collison, who is fouled by Greer.
    • 90+5 Dunk forced into a backpass, lumped long by Harper.
    • 90+4 Noone can't reach Painter's ball and it's hoisted forward. Piquionne tries to take it into the corner but the ball is back with Harper.
    • 90+3 WEST HAM SUB: Faubert trots off for Baldock.
    • 90+2 Piquionne on the run, good touch but Greer blocks his attempted shot.
    • 90+1 EIGHT minutes added time.
    • 90' Sloppy defending from Brighton gives Nolan a half-chance but his shot is deflected well over.
    • 89' Brighton have men over here but Noone with a terrible ball, awful about 10 yards behind Mackail-Smith who was in!
    • 88' Noble releases Faubert who is in and curls it past Harper but Greer heads away! That was going wide but Greer had no idea. Should have scored!
    • 87' Brighton stuggle to clear their lines, Noble finds Nolan but the counter loses momentum and it all slows down...
    • 86' Mackail-Smith knocks it on to Hoskins, who wriggles away before firing a rising drive over.
    • 85' Noone weaves inside and out but Almunia gets hold of it under pressure from Hoskins.
    • 83' BRIGHTON SUB: Finally Dicker is carried off, with Ryan Harley on in his place.
    • 81' Dicker is still being attended to - by my estimation there will be at least six minutes added time including the subs.
    • 79' Dicker has his head in his hands. The stretcher is on, it could be a long spell out for him.
    • 78' Something's seriously wrong with Dicker, who landed badly on his knee as he extended to try and intercept a loose ball. Oh dear.
    • 77' Dicker lands heavily and is waving to the bench...
    • 75' Bridcutt is booked for catching Collison. One more booking for a Brighton player and they'll be in hot water with the FA for failing to control their players.
    • 73' West Ham, who have looked a lot better since Sears came on, win a throw. Still Brighton have dominated this match.
    • 72' Buckley almost latches on to a loose ball, O'Brien in trouble, but Faye hacks it out.
    • 71' That was brave from Almunia, and a touch late from Mackail-Smith. You'd be miffed if he hadn't tried to get that in this context - he doesn't even get a book; in the Champions League he'd have been off.
    • 70' Dicker with a great ball through and Mackail-Smith is in but out flies Almunia to block and he takes the full weight of Mackail-Smith in the gut! Ow!
    • 69' Great tackle from Jara sliding in on Sears who was clean through! If he mis-timed that it would have been a pen and a red!
    • 68' Noone with a delivery from the right but Faye gets there before Hoskins.
    • 67' Sears with a half-chance but he drags his shot wide from the edge of the box.
    • 66' WEST HAM SUB: Piquionne is off the bench now, for Carew. Nice options for the Hammers, even with Cole out injured.
    • 65' Mackail-Smith on the run, back to Noone but he can't work the shot. Still with Brighton as Hoskins lays it off to Bridcutt but his long-range curler is wide.
    • 64' Sears again with a nice touch, Carew wide right, good cross but over the head of a flying Nolan. He's been quiet this half.
    • 63' Bridcutt gets in a pickle and Sears is on to it in a flash, but McCartney wastes the cross, easy for Harps.
    • 62' Painter with some promising build-up play but a weak lob that Almunia claims easily. 58% possession to the hosts.
    • 61' Mackail-Smith and McCartney tangle in the Hammers box but play on! End-to-end stuff now as Mackail-Smith wins a corner. Phew.
    • 60' BRIGHTON SUB: Hoskins on for Barnes.
    • 59' Now Mackail-Smith has a dig but well over. Faubert seemed to slip under pressure from Painter - let's blame the rain for that.
    • 58' Carew wins a flick on and Faubert is in, he goes down and howls for a penalty but play on!
    • 57' Noble clips the free-kick into the box at waist-height, Carew takes it on the torso, turns off Greer and spanks in a shot that Harper holds well enough.
    • 56' Brighton swarm forward again but Faye hoofs clear. And now Sears picks it up, great run from him and Dunk clips him 25 yards out and he will be booked.
    • 55' WEST HAM SUB: Sears races on for Diop, who has a dead leg. An injury but also a tactical chance as Sears is more a winger-forward than DM Diop.
    • 54' Jara lofts a cross in but Dunk's header is well wide. Seagulls hammering the Hammers right now.
    • 53' Dicker forces a corner off Reid as Brighton really pile it in. Replay shows that, while the ball hit Reid's arm, it was down by his side so he cannot be penalised.
    • 53' Dicker's low cross takes a deflection and lands for Mackail-Smith but he wasn't expecting it, can't get the ball under control and West Ham clear!
    • 52' Terrible from Barnes, shooting straight into the wall. Then another claim for handball as it strikes Reid but not even a glance from Friend.
    • 51' Barnes is over this, a bit far to shoot but I think he fancies it... A delay from Friend as West ham form a wall that also contains Bridcutt...
    • 50' Diop lollops in on Noone and leaves the winger in a heap. Free-kick around 32 yards out...
    • 49' Brighton dominating possession and have been since the goal - can they make it count? Painter crosses, Faubert blocks.
    • 48' Jara is taken out by Collison after nutmegging the Wales midfielder.
    • 47' Barnes and O'Brien tangle and Friend has words with them. Corner finally comes in and it takes a touch at the near post, Greer yelps loudly for handball but a corner is the result. Seemed to strike Reid on the arm!
    • 46' Barnes feeds Mackail-Smith, who is in down the right and has to settle for a corner after his cut-back is blocked.
    • 46' The second half is underway.
    • 45+3 Half-time and it's 1-0 to West Ham - Brighton livened up at the end of the half.
    • 45+2 GREAT SAVE ALMUNIA! Mackail-Smith with the volley from close range after a loose ball lands to him in the box! Barnes feels he was shoved by Reid as the Kiwi cleared the loose ball.
    • 45+1 Two minutes added time being played.
    • 45' Dicker gives away a free-kick on halfway as Brighton's momentum slows.
    • 44' Mackail-Smith pressurises Reid, who feels he was pushed but is able to knock it behind for another Seagulls corner. Swung far post but too far. Dicker picks up the loose ball but elects to shoot - wrong decision. Noone get hold of it on the right though, cuts inside on to his left AND HE DRIVES A SHOT IN but wide with Almunia covering it well enough.
    • 43' Brighton all over West Ham now as Noone pops up on the right, tackled by Diop. Corner again! Nolan heads clear. Faubert completes and Noble races in on the break, now Faubert with the cross that McCartney can reach but Noone has got all the way back to clear and off the West Ham man for a goal kick.
    • 42' Super cross by Barnes under pressure at a tight angle but Diop has all nine foot three of his frame in the way as Mackail-Smith was ready to pounce! Corner.
    • 41' Corner taken short again and Bridcutt shoots but Carew puts his head in the way to divert wide for a corner! That is swung in and all kinds of problems for the Hammers, ricocheting around in the box and I think Carew clears with Jara flying in to finish!
    • 40' Faye slips and Mackail-Smith is in! But Reid hurls himself in to block the shot, the crowd roar for a penalty but it seemed to hit his chest.
    • 39' Barnes flies in with a header but it comes off at an odd angle and flies over for a goal kick.
    • 38' Nolan heads over under pressure after a clever cross by Faubert. Greer marking tightly. Down the other end McCarthey is given a rough ride by Mackail-Smith and the Northern Ireland defender kicks it out for the first corner of the match. Carew heads clear.
    • 37' Noble's cross in is punched away by Harper flying through a melee of bodies.
    • 36' Yellow card for Greer for a late challenge on Carew after the Norwegian knocked it past him down the left wing.
    • 35' Ironic cheers from the home fans as Carew is penalised for backing into the defender. Raining cats and dogs at the Amex.
    • 34' Hammers knocking it about at the back and it goes all the way back to Almunia.
    • 33' West Ham are happy with a cagey counter-attacking approach it seems - the ability of their players warrants a move adventurous approach.
    • 32' Harper has to come out of his box to chest and clear the ball, under a bit of pressure from Nolan too. Noble is back in play with a bandaged arm.
    • 31' Aimless long ball headed away easily by Reid.
    • 30' Noble seems to have hurt his hand as he landed awkwardly while trying to block that shot. Dislocated thumb it seems, sticking out at a nasty angle.
    • 29' Almunia claims the ball after a shot from a very long way out by Bridcutt after a short free-kick. Noble is down hurt.
    • 28' Quickly-taken free-kick by Brighton and now Mackail-Smith is dumped down 30 yards out. Free-kick, Reid thinks he ran into him.
    • 27' Poor ball by Dicker goes straight to Faye. Groans from the home fans.
    • 26' Good defending by Reid to shepherd the ball back to Almunia with Mackail-Smith in attendance.
    • 25' Barnes thinks he was fouled by Reid but nothing given by the ref who finds his reaction a bit much.
    • 24' Another Noone cross flies in but Reid nods clear. Jara has a dig now but Almunia reads it well to claim.
    • 23' Good spell for Brighton, with Noone getting a lot of the ball.
    • 21' Noone gets a move on and it opens up for him - he elects to shoot, and spanks it over, when Barnes and Mackail Smith were free.
    • 20' Looking at the replay I think Friend played to the crowd and the players - never a booking.
    • 19' Faubert clobbers Painter and enrages home players and fans. Yellow for him.
    • 18' Bridcutt at fault with the initial error but Harper should have done better - his placement was off and he was unable to dive across.
    • 17' GOAL WEST HAM! Nolan with a thunderbolt from 20 yards after Bridcutt dithers and is cauight in possession by the former Bolton and Newcastle man. Poor control from the Brighton defender and dodgy positioning from Harper, who was rooted to the right-hand post and couldn't move in time.
    • 16' Nice passing from Brighton until Collison gets a foot in and West Ham look to move forward...
    • 15' Poyet is furious at the ref after Barnes seems to be shoved by Reid.
    • 14' The ball is back with Harper who pumps it long. West Ham win it back though...
    • 13' Jara gives away a free-kick for a late stamp on Noble and is booked on his debut.
    • 12' Noone again gets the better of O'Brien but the delivery isn't great.
    • 11' Confident claim from Harper but a poor cross from Macca. 13 of the 22 players on the park were playing Premier League football last season.
    • 10' Sparrow goes through the back of Collison. McCartney to take.
    • 9' Brighton race forward, they have men over and in comes the cross from Noone but it veers out of play before coming back in - just. Great skill and pace from Noone though.
    • 8' West Ham are speaking to the ref about that chance - they feel the ball struck Mackail-Smith's hand but Kevin Friend explains that it was fired at him from point-blank range and was thus unintentional.
    • 7' Mackail-Smith latches on to a lucky ricochet and he shows a great turn of pace and is in but Almunia shuts down the angle and the Scotland striker drills across goal and wide! First major chance.
    • 6' Noble hoists one forward for Carew but it is some way ahead of him and he is forced into a shove on defender Dunk - or so says the ref, the Norway striker does not agree.
    • 5' Big Sam (TM) is not happy with the way his side let the Seagulls get behind them and he lets them know it.
    • 4' Brighton slice through the Hammers midfield but fail to create a chance for Mackail-Smith.
    • 3' Jara catches Diop a bit late. No booking. Not intentional as Jara was clearing the ball before the Wardrobe arrived out of nowhere.
    • 2' Jara saves Dunk's bacon after he gives the ball to Collison on the edge of his own box. Crazy play from the Brighton defender, well covered by the on-loan Chilean.
    • 1' The first half is underway on the South Coast.
    • 19:40 Gus Poyet is gutted that Elphick has suffered a recurrence of the Achilles injury that ruled him out from the summer until now. "It's hard to take but that's the risk you have as a football player. We'll provide Tommy with all the support he needs to come back a stronger player." More here!
    • 19:35 Big Sam is considering a move for free agent El-Hadji Diouf. Not a popular one with the West Ham fans... More here!
    • 19:30 For the Hammers forward Fred Piquionne is on the bench, with John Carew starting as a lone striker and Kevin Nolan in support. Bit Premier League that... Henri Lansbury, James Tomkins, Carlton Cole, Rob Green, Guy Demel and Gary O'Neil are all out but West Ham have such depth that the starting XI still looks like a top-flight side.
    • 19:25 On-loan keeper Steve Harper goes straight into the starting XI then for Brighton. Barely time to catch his breath. Gonzalo Jara, the Chile defender who played in the World Cup, also starts after joining at the weekend, on loan from West Brom. Former Spain and Valencia midfielder misses out though (thigh), while Adam El-Abd and Tommy Elphick are long-term absentees.
    • 19:20 Referee: Kevin Friend (Leicestershire)
    • 19:15 TEAMS - Brighton: Harper, Greer, Dunk, Painter, Jara Reyes, Sparrow, Dicker, Bridcutt, Noone, Mackail-Smith, Barnes; Subs: Ankergren, Calderon, Harley, Hoskins, Buckley /// West Ham: Almunia, O'Brien, Reid, Faye, McCartney, Faubert, Diop, Noble, Collison, Nolan, Carew; Subs: Boffin, Baldock, Sears, Piquionne, Moncur
    • 19:10 Some breaking news from the Championship - Leicester have sacked Sven-Goran Eriksson, according to widespread reports. This follows a 3-0 loss at home to Millwall. They are in the same position as Brighton though, mid-table and only a win off fourth place. Do you think it came too soon? Let me know what you think on Twitter!
    • 19:05 The wheels has come off Brighton's early-season dominance as their promoted squad feels the strain of an ultra-competitive division; they lie 12th although would move fourth, above West Ham, with a win. The Hammers, meanwhile, would go second with victory. Championship standings
