    • 90+3' The final whistle goes, and it's another Barca win at the Bernabeu! Real's game plan was working until Puyol scored his header, and the unlikely goal hero Abidal has given Barca the advantage for next week's second leg.
    • 90+2' The referee plays advantage after a late challenge by Carvalho on Adriano. The move ends ina wild shot wide. Carvalho perhaps fortunate not to see another yellow card and then a red.
    • 90' Three minutes of added time to be played.
    • 88' Barcelona substitution: Isaac Cuenca replaces Fabregas.
    • 87' There are a few Real fans who are starting to file out of the stadium. They must be sick of the sight of Barca. Carvalho is booked for a desperate trip on Messi.
    • 86' Barcelona substitution: Thiago Alcantara replaces Xavi.
    • 85' Fabregas has just picked up a lighter or something similar and handed it tot he referee.
    • 84' Nice sweeping move forward from Real, but Ronaldo's eventual effort is blocked before it can get through and test Pinto.
    • 82' Barcelona substitution: Adriano replaces Sanchez.
    • 81' In 10 matches at the Bernabeu, Lionel Messi has only once failed to score or assist a goal.
    • 80' Real substitution: Esteban Granero replaces Pepe.
    • 79' Puyol taks himself into the referee's book as he protests a decision.
    • 78' That is Abidal's second ever goal for Barca in four-and-a-half years at the club!
    • 77' GOAL!! REAL MADRID 1-2 BARCELONA!! Messi dinks a little ball into the box and Abidal beats the offside trap. The France defender takes the ball on his chest and hits a low finish past Casillas!
    • 76' Second-half possession: Real 29%-71% Barca.
    • 75' Even Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney is upset about Pepe's cheeky tread on Messi's hand. He just tweeted: "Pepe. What an idiot. Sometimes people wind u up."
    • 73' Casillas is off his line to claim a cross with authority. He tries for the quick counter but the ball is soon back in Barca's possession. The visitors are really beginning to hog the ball now.
    • 71' Iniesta plays intot he path of Messi int he box but it's a good interception from Coentrao. The Portuguese left-back has not got forward nearly as much as he usually does this evening.
    • 70' Xavi delivers a fabulous free-kick from the left flank and Busquets glances it over the bar! That should have been on target!
    • 69' Pepe has to get involved, doesn't he? With Messi sat on the floor, the Poruguese steps on his hand! Luckily for him, the officials didn't see that.
    • 68' Callejon wastes no time in making his mark. He trips Messi and, perhaps a little harshly, gets booked.
    • 66' Real substitutions: Mesut Ozil and Jose Callejon replace Diarra and Higuain.
    • 65' Now Busquets is down after he was sandwiched between Alonso and Diarra in mid-air! Looks like Real are planning a change.
    • 64' Iniesta kicks the ball into touch so Pepe can get some treatment. The Real defender went down in a heap after the slightest of touches from Fabregas. Him and Busquets in a running battle to be crowned villain of the night.
    • 63' Coentrao wins a free-kick for his team after a hefty tackle from anchez, and soon after concedes one for his hounding of Alves near the byline.
    • 62' According to Matt Dickindon of The Times (@DickinsonTimes) on Twitter, Puyol has not been ont he losing side in 50 games for Barca. Impressive!
    • 60' Sanchez fires the ball across goal but Iniesta has to stretch to reach it and it's an easy one for Casillas.
    • 59' A booking for Coentrao for a late tackle on Messi. That's two bookings each so far.
    • 58' Great play from Altintop as he pushes forward down the wing. His twists and turns in front of his marker before chipping tot he far post. Benzema is free and sends a header crashing off the outside of the post! Pinto was beaten there!
    • 56' The dleivery is floated in for Pepe to attack in the box, but he just can't reach it in the air.
    • 55' Busquets goes into the referee's book for a foul on Alonso in midfield.
    • 54' Fabregas casualy scoops a ball over the top and Iniesta will volley... Great block from Ramos who sticks a leg out and guides iniesta's strike on to the post!
    • 53' Ronaldo is proving his doubters wrong as he continues to show an excellent work rate both with and without the ball. How he has come in for criticism from his own fans recently is baffling.
    • 52' After doing such a good job of inviting Barca on to them and hitting them on the break, it's a simple set piece from which Real come unstuck. So poor from Pepe.
    • 50' That's a second goal of the season for the Barca captain.
    • 49' GOAL!! REAL MADRID 1-1 BARCELONA!! Barca have a corner. Swung in to the far post and Puyol stoops to power home a diving header! Pepe was caught napping there!
    • 47' No changes for either side at the break. Both managers have plenty of tempting options on their respective benches.
    • 46' Real get the second half underway!
    • - @Haberman32: "i thought real madrid played awesome in the first half, apart from the one bit of play from fabregas, barca are dissapointing"
    • - @Lukasjc13: "Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world...#AbsoluteDon!!
    • - @ridwancarim: "ronaldo is really on top of his game, i think madrid will win this match"
    • HT So, what did you make of the first half? Let me know via Twitter - @tony_mabert.
    • 45+1' The half-time whistle goes, and Real Madrid are a goal up midway through this first leg. A very enjoyable half it has been too.
    • 45' Just the one minute of added time at the end of the half.
    • 44' A poor crossfield pass allows Abidal to make progress down the left. The left-back Play comes inside to Fabregas who is wasteful with a shot from range.
    • 43' Barca have scored in 12 of their last 13 meetings with Real Madrid in all competitions.
    • 42' Barca fail to utilise the set piece and Real burst out again. This time it's Pepe leading the charge, but he can't find a way through to Benzema.
    • 41' A rare poor piece of control from Ronaldo loses the momentum and quick as a flash Messi is being tackled at the expense of a corner.
    • 40' Altintop stops Fabregas getting around hima nd wins the ball for his team. Barca soon have it back but ALexis is ruled offside as he latches on to a through pass. Coentrao was playing him on though.
    • 38' Eurosport football commentator Tim Caple(@timcaple) with a good Ronaldo stat on Twitter: "Ronaldo's goal was his 4th in 14 meetings v Barca, this is the 11th time he faced them whilst at Madrid"
    • 36' Fabregas is perhaps fortunate not to concede a free-kick for a sliding tackle on Higuain that meets its target well after the ball had gone. Barca manage to get men back to snuff out Real's latest counter attack.
    • 35' Altintop muscles Iniesta off the ball on the left flank but then gives it straight to Xavi. A mixed night so far for the turkish utility man.
    • 33' Fabregas races away after a curling through ball down the middle and Casillas sprints out of his box to clear with a diving header!
    • 32' Pepe is getting his fair share of treatment now. This time it's Sanchez with a rough challenge on the Real man. The referee gives the foul but keeps cards in pocket.
    • 31' Puyol gets a big head to the delivery and Real are forced to play all the way back to Casillas.
    • 30' Sanchez sprints back to cover Ronaldo and concede a corner, Real's first of the game.
    • 29' Wonderful football from Barca as Sanchez lays off Fabregas's pass first time to Iniesta who fires well wide of the near post! The man who scored the winner in the World Cup final should have at least tested his Spain colleague Casillas there.
    • 28' the corner comes in and Pepe is first to it. Puyol is penalised for barging the Portugal international in mid-air.
    • 27' Great patient build-up play by Barca before Iniesta beats the offside trap and Ramos has to hack away for a corner!
    • 26' MESSI!! The three-time World Player of the Year zips down the left channel, gets into the area and his low strike for the near post is palmed away by Casillas!
    • 25' Puyol and Pique both leap to attack a Barca corner but it goes over their heads. Ronaldo motors away on the break but his square pass for Benzema is blocked! The Portuguese superstar is looking dangerous tonight.
    • 24' Xabi Alonso plays the ball down the right for Benzema, who sees the run of Higuain but can't sneak it through to him.
    • 23' Sergio Ramos steps out to intercept a pass bound for Fabregas. Real defending in numbers and hoping to hit Barca ont he break again. It's working a treat so far.
    • 21' Lassana Diarra sends a ball over the top for Higuain to chase, but Pinto is pretty quick off his line for a 36-year-old and clears his lines.
    • 20' Pepe goes down clutching his face following an aerial challenge with Pique. The referee shows the Barca defender a yellow card. His arm was up and made contact with Pepe's head. How much force there was is debatable though.
    • 18' In nine matches at the Bernabeu, Lionel Messi has only once failed to score or assist a goal.
    • 17' Pepe takes 17 minutes to get booked for a cynical bodycheck on Busquets. The midfield enforcer will have to tread carefully now.
    • 16' Sanchez ghosts between two Real defenders and nods a looping header from Fabregas's chipped pass over Casillas and it hits the bar! A relieved Casillas collects the loose ball!
    • 14' Remember, when Barca beat Real here in November, Real opened the scoring in the very first minute. Plenty of time left in this first leg.
    • 13' Ronaldo's tail is up now as he tries for another aggressive surge for the Barca goal. This time he doesn't make it past Puyol.
    • 12' That is Ronaldo's 26th goal of the season for Real, though strikes against Barcelona are a bit of a rarity for him.
    • 11' GOAL!! REAL MADRID 1-0 BARCELONA!! Fabregas runs into three white shirts and Real can counter. Benzema brings it forward and feeds Ronaldo's run. A little stepover is enough to catch Pique off guard and the £80m man drills a low finish through the legs of Pinto!
    • 10' The pre-match odds had Barca as slight favourites. They were 6/4 with Real at 7/4.
    • 9' Real get their first comfortable bout of possession. The long ball up to Karim Benzema is easily intercepted by his fellow Frenchman, Eric Abidal.
    • 8' Real Madrid’s run of six games without a win at home to Barcelona is their poorest-ever (previous worst: 4, 1970-74).
    • 7' Great work rate from Ronaldo to block Pique's clearance and then almost set up Gonzalo Higuain inside the area, but his pass comes with the striker offside.
    • 6' Lovely footwork from Messi and he feeds Dani Alves out wide. The Brazilian pings an inch perfect ball right across to Andres Iniesta on the opposite flank. He tries to slip the ball into Cesc Fabregas's run int eh box, but Casillas gathers the pass.
    • 5' Ronaldo gets his head to a long punt forward from Casillas, but Gerard Pique is under it and tidies up with a pass back to Pinto in goal. Victor Valdes is routinely rested for Copa del Rey games.
    • 4' Lionel Messi skips one challenge and tries to spray the ball out wide, but Pepe makes a timely tackle.
    • 3' Barca, as you might expect, have had most of the possession in the opening few minutes. This is only the fourth time that Ronaldo, Benzema and Higuain have all started a match together.
    • 2' Casillas comes out of his area to boot a ball down the channel unceremoniously into the crowd. What's the Spanish for 'hoof'?
    • 1' To a torrent of whistles and boos, Barcelona get things underway at the Bernabeu!
    • 21:02 Referee Cesar Muniz Fernandez gives captains Iker Casillas and Carles Puyol a stern talking-to, probably asking them to make sure this game is played in a good spirit. Good luck with that...
    • 20:59 In a tip of the hat to our over-excitable Spanish counterparts covering this match in their language: ¡¡THE PLAYERS ARE LEAVING THE TUNNEL AND ARE COMING ON TO THE PITCH NOW!!
    • 20:55 We're not that far away from kick-off now. You can share your thoughts on this huge match either by getting in touch with me via Twitter - @tony_mabert.
    • 20:55 Eurosport's La Liga specialist blogger Andy Mitten (@AndyMitten) is at the game, and has just tweeted about the partisan atmosphere inside the cauldron that is the Bernabeu: "Barca team being read out. So loud are the whistles, you can't hear it. Guardiola prob not the best person to open Madrid supermarkets." Read andy's latest blog on a proper Spanish derby
    • 20:50 Guardiola remains philosophical: "Going to the Bernabeu we must be wise to get through. The only way to get a result and have the tie alive is to go to win the game. Madrid are the strongest opponents that we can find. Against Madrid you cannot feel a favourite. In sport there are no precedents. It matters what you do at the time. Tomorrow is a new day and 90,000 people will support a team in white. You have to start again. That's the beauty. This work makes sense because it offers passion."
    • 20:50 Mourinho has won 10 of his 11 matches at the quarter-final stage of domestic cups (exc. 3-3 vs Tottenham in 06/07 FA Cup), while Guardiola has only won as many games against Athletic Bilbao as against Real Madrid (8 each). More pre-match facts here
    • 20:45 Head-to-head: Since they first played each other in a Copa del Rey match in 1902, these two great rivals have clashed on no fewer than 216 occasions. Real have won 86, one more than Barca. Barcelona have won the Copa a record 25 times in 34 final appearances, ahead of Athletic Bilbao (23 wins) and Real (18). When these two met in the league back in November, Barca won 3-1 at the Bernabeu. Match report: Barca take top spot with Clasico victory
    • 20:40 Mourinho again: "How many titles do I have to win in order to avoid being questioned for what I do? Tell me what I have to do to satisfy you. If I field Karim Benzema as my striker, you all ask about Gonzalo Higuain, but if he plays, you want to know why Benzema is out. If I play Pepe in midfield, you all stress he's better at the back, but if he plays in defence, you suggest I use him in midfield." Real's latest chance to end Barca hoodoo
    • 20:35 Ronaldo has come in for some stick from Real fans recently (despite scoring 25 goals for them this season), meaning Mourinho has had to defend his star man. He said: "He worked like an animal and did exactly what the team needed. He doesn't need to score or be man of the match every time. I told him nobody can touch him after the way he worked in the second half. When the team wins everyone is responsible and when they lose everyone is responsible for that too. Simple." Ronaldo 'working like an animal'
    • 20:30 Just to underline the point of how strong these teams are, Marcelo is the only one out of the eight 'Clasico' players selected in UEFA's Team of 2011 not to start tonight. The Brazilian left-back is on the Real bench. Guardiola was named the best coach, while the other three players in the XI are lone representatives of the Premier League, the Bundesliga and Serie A respectively. Full UEFA Team of the Year
    • 20:25 The same goes for Barca. Reserve goalkeeper Jose Manuel Pinto aside, Pep Guardiola has fielded the strongest available team on his 41st birthday. The front three is Cesc Fabregas, Lionel Messi and Alexis Sanchez. David Villa and Pedroare both injured and Seydou Keita is away with the Mali squad at the African Cup of Nations. Barcelona team page
    • 20:25 Hamit Altintop replaces Alvaro Arbeloa at right-back for Real, but otherwise it looks like a pretty much first choice line-up from Jose Mourinho. Pepe moves into midfield, with Ricardo Carvalho replacing him at centre-back. It’s an attacking trident of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain. Just the 45 league goals between them this season, then. Real Madrid team page
