    • - So, Spain finally win! Fabregas and Casillas are the heroes, Di Natale and De Rossi the villains... Italy are out!
    • 4-2 Cesc Fabregas to win it for Spain... HE DOES IT AND SPAIN ARE IN THE SEMI-FINALS!
    • 3-2 Di Natale to level things up at 3-3... but Casillas saves! And Spain can win it on their next kick!
    • 3-2 Substitute Guiza... saved by Buffon! Incredible!
    • 3-2 Camoranesi... a little stutter, but he finds the corner and Italy are back in it!
    • 3-1 Senna to make it 3-1... into the roof of the net!
    • 2-1 Here comes De Rossi... and Casillas saves! De Rossi, who missed against Manchester United in the Champions League, is the unfortunate one again!
    • 2-1 Cazorla... another brilliantly taken pen!
    • 1-1 Fabio Grosso up next... super penalty, right into the corner!
    • 1-0 Spain, and David Villa, to go first... he scores!
    • 120' There it is! All over in Vienna! And we're going to the hell on a football pitch that is a penalty shootout!
    • 119' Chance at the death for Cazorla! The Villarreal man sprints onto the ball but his cross-shot is dragged wide of the post!
    • 116' Penalties. Bloody penalties. The problem with them is that a) there always has to be a villain as well as a hero and b) Italy and Germany always win them.
    • 113' Cazorla into the book for a bit of petulance... he throws the ball down into the ground after the ref - rightly - opts to give Italy a goal kick instead of a Spanish corner.
    • 111' Ramos is there, but he can't direct his header on target.
    • 110' Villa's through here... but Buffon stands up well to make the block... corner to Spain.
    • 108' A final throw of the dice for Italy now... Donadoni sends on Alessandro Del Piero... and off goes Aquilani, who has been disappointing.
    • 108' Oh dear, that's awful from Grosso in the end... he spoons it over the far post... the only problem is that there's no one there.
    • 107' Free kick now to Italy... De Rossi is over it... and this could be dangerous.
    • 106' Here we go again!
    • 105' There goes the whistle and there's just 15 minutes remaining to score a goal... if not, it will be the dreaded 'p' word.
    • 103' Guiza bursts through the Italy defence... but he drags his shot wide of the mark and that's not going to worry Buffon.
    • 100' At the 100-minute mark, there's still nothing in it...
    • 96' Toni goes close with a flicked header over from the resulting corner! This is more like it now!
    • 95' Di Natale fires a header goalwards! The Italy substitute is denied by a super save by Casillas!
    • 94' Grosso delivers a beautiful ball into the box, looking for Toni... Marchena's there to touch clear!
    • 93' Oooh! Silva fires inches wide of the post with Buffon scrambling to get there! Good start to the second half from Spain!
    • 92' Big penalty shout from the Spanish early on as Silva delivers a free-kick into the mixer! But it's six of one and half-a-dozen of the other as Chiellini and Ramos wrestle each other to the ground.
    • 91' Okay, 30 minutes of extra-time underway...
    • 90'+3 There goes the whistle! Full time in Vienna and we're going into extra time!
    • 90'+2 Villa nearly brings the ball down as Spain break... but he can't quite control it and the chance disappears as quickly as it arrived.
    • 89' Three minutes of added time to be played... surely there isn't another late Euro 2008 twist...
    • 87' Chance for Guiza as the ball comes to him in the middle... but he uses his hands to control the ball... the ref spots it and Italy will have a free kick.
    • 87' Time running out for both sides... and the spectre of extra-time looms large.
    • 85' Here's a funny one... Luis Aragones takes off Fernando Torres and on comes Dani Guiza.
    • 83' Real chance for Italy as the ball comes across towards Grosso at the far post! But Toni gets in the way and gets the slightest of touches to take it away from his team-mate!
    • 81' Oooh! Another close shave for Italy moments later as Senna again brings Buffon into action! The ball squirms past the keeper and ends up bouncing off the base of the post and back into Buffon's arms!
    • 79' Senna! Ooooh! His effort from a free kick, 25 yards out is repelled by a two-fisted punch by Buffon!
    • 76' The ball comes to Ramos at the far post... he decides to pull it down himself when perhaps leaving it for Torres would have been a better option... his eventual effort loops into Buffon's arms.
    • 75' Fifteen minutes left and you can't help but feel this one's going to extra time...
    • 74' Donadoni makes another change... off goes the ineffective Cassano and on comes Udinese striker Antonio Di Natale.
    • 72' Oh dear, this is embarassing for David Villa... he gets booked for 'simulation', although in fairness, he didn't appeal and only seemed to slip over.
    • 70' Zambrotta puts in a decent ball from the right... Toni gets there! But his header is off target and Spain can breathe again!
    • 69' It is Villa who steps up... but his effort hits the wall and bounces behind for a corner.
    • 68' Free kick now to Spain, 25 yards out... Villa over it.
    • 64' Aquilani fancies his chances with a volley from 25 yards out... but the Roma man doesn't catch it well at all and the ball bobbles harmlessly wide of the mark.
    • 63' Silva trips up Camoranesi in the centre circle... free kick to Italy, but no further action taken by the ref.
    • 61' Oooh! Italy should score here! Casillas is all over the show as Toni challenges for a high ball... it falls to Camoranesi on the penalty spot! But his effort is saved by Casillas!
    • 60' Spain respond with a change of their own... it's Fabregas and Cazorla on, Xavi and Iniesta off. Brave stuff from Luis Aragones.
    • 58' Italy coach Roberto Donadoni makes his first change of the night... Perrotta goes off and Mauro Camoranesi comes on.
    • 56' Spain are beginning to come forward with more intent now...
    • 55' Torres hustles Panucci off the ball... and he has Villa haring into the box square to him! But his pass is cut out and it never reaches his strike partner.
    • 53' The game has definitely opened up more this half... but whether there are goals in the game is another matter.
    • 51' Italy can break now... no, actually they can't. Cassano's attempted pass to Ambrosini is poor and the ball goes out for a goal kick.
    • 50' Grosso delivers a super, teasing ball into the middle... Toni's there! But the flag is up for offside!
    • 49' Chance for Silva in the Italy box after a poor clearance from Panucci! But Chiellini recovers excellently to make the challenge, just before Silva pulls the trigger!
    • 47' Let's hope for a little more goalmouth action this half...
    • 46' Back underway in Vienna! No changes to tell you about.
    • 45'+1 And there goes the half-time whislte to bring an end to what has been a disappointing opening period of play. Chances have been few and far between and Spain's talented forwards haven't really been in the game.
    • 45' Just a minute of added time to be played...
    • 44' Senna piles into the back of Senna before Marchena leaves the boot in a little on Perrotta! It's getting a little tasty as half-time approaches.
    • 43' Iniesta jinks inside and lets fly! Super play from the Barcelona man, but his effort is wide of the mark!
    • 42' Silva takes a tumble under the challenge of Grosso... Penalty! No, play on says the ref! Replays show that there was definitely a foul, but it was just outside the box... poor refereeing from Mr Fandel and his assistant, who was 15 paces away from the incident yet did nothing.
    • 41' Incidentally, Cassano's corner is rubbish and the ball flies all the way through without anyone getting a touch on it.
    • 40' Cassano, a loose cannon at the best of times, runs over to take a corner for Italy and whips the Italian tifosi up with some arm-waving! That's what this game needs....
    • 38' Silva! Oooh! Inches wide of the upright from the Spain midfielder! He cut inside and let fly with his left foot! But there's still no breakthrough, even though it looks like we're getting closer to an opener!
    • 37' At the othere end, Torres heads off on a superb, wriggling run that has Zambrotta wondering which way to turn!
    • 36' Oooh! Toni gets on the end of Cassano's cross after great wing play from the Sampdoria striker, but his header is blocked rather fortuitously by Marchena!
    • 34' The Italian defence opens up a little ahead of Iniesta now... but his shot is blazed well over the bar and doesn't trouble Buffon.
    • 33' Xavi wins a corner moments later, but the referee's whistle sounds as his cross arrives in the middle and Italy win a free kick.
    • 32' Silva makes Buffon work with a crisp low drive from outside the box! Decent stop from the Juve keeper though!
    • 31' Ambrosini is booked for an over-the-top challenge on Senna after the Italy midfielder lost the ball in midfield. That smacked of a frustrated challenge.
    • 30' Italy have a chance to unlock the Spanish defence now... but Cassano's ball doesn't find a white shirt and Casillas picks it up.
    • 28' Iniesta tries to trick Grosso into making an ill-advised challenge in the penalty area... but the Lyon man is too, well, Italain to let that happen and when he does make the tackle, it's a fair one. Great defending!
    • 27' Cassano wins another free kick... this time off Sergio Ramos... but it doesn't come to anything as Toni struggles to get to it ahead of Puyol.
    • 26' The game is yet to catch light... neither side have really made any inroads into the opposition's penalty box so far.
    • 25' David Villa strikes it! The ball finds its way through the wall, but Buffon gets well behind it to make the save!
    • 24' De Rossi fouls on the edge of the box... and Spain have a free kick now in a dangerous area... six Spaniards over it...
    • 23' Toni can't get on the end of a decent ball across the face of the Spain goal...
    • 22' Toni and Cassano link up on the edge of the Spain box... but Cassano can't quite work himself enough space and his eventual shot is blocked.
    • 20' Villa lets off a speculative effort from miles out... but it doesn't even trouble Buffon and the ball bounces well wide.
    • 20' Italy may not be throwing everyone forward at the moment, but they've just proved they're still a threat.
    • 19' First chance of the game falls to Perrotta, who gets in just behind Puyol to direct a header goalwards! But it's straight at Casillas!
    • 18' Villa plays in Torres on the left... but his first touch isn't that good and Zambrotta does enough to put him off his cross.
    • 17' Ambrosini goes in again in the Italy box, this time on Villa... the Spainiard goes down, but the ref waves play on! Replays show that on another day, that one could have been given!
    • 16' Villa feeds Torres on the edge of the Italy box.... superb tackle from Ambrosini to dispossess the Liverpool man!
    • 14' Lovely feet from Iniesta... and the Spain midfielder makes room for himself... good little spell of possession for the Spaniards now.
    • 13' Italy just playing the ball around the back here... they're in no rush to press forward just yet.
    • 11' Iniesta becomes the first player to go into Mr Fandel's notebook... that's more a culmination of a few niggly fouls rather than one bad tackle.
    • 10' Cassano robs Torres... and Italy can break! But the Liverpool man tracks back and fouls... free kick to Italy.
    • 9' Spain are playing the ball around nicely at the moment... with Xavi seeing a lot of the ball early on.
    • 8' Nice one-two involving Capdevila and Silva... but the latter's eventual cross is deflected and Buffon claims.
    • 6' Toni looks to use his height to get onto the end of a cross into the middle... no dice this time.
    • 5' It's a sweltering evening in Austria tonight... but that shouldn't affect either side too much - it's not like it's Finland playing out there.
    • 4' The Italian fans are blasting out their own rendition of the White Stripes' Seven Nation Army, comprising the words "Cam-pioni-del-Mon-do" to the famous der-de-de-de-de-der-der riff.
    • 3' Here come the Italians down the left hand side... Senna nips at Cassano's ankles and the Sampdoria hitman goes down as if having been shot by the proverbial sniper.
    • 2' Zambrotta concedes the first free-kick of the night, for a tug on Villa.
    • 2' Italy in all-white tonight, Spain in their traditional colours...
    • 1' Here we go! Underway in Vienna!
    • - Good to see an Englishman out there playing in the quarter-final of a major tournament - Simone Perrotta was born in Ashton-under-Lyne in Greater Manchester before moving to Italy!
    • - And now for Spain... not as stirring at Italy's, but nonetheless januty. Casillas doesn't know the words unfortunately... and the best the cameras can find in the stands is some hairy bloke dressed as a matador and, er, King Carlos.
    • - Fabio Cannavaro is there, singing with all his heart, despite his injury as the host broadcaster's camera scans over the first hot Italian chick of the night.
    • - The players are out on the pitch in Vienna as we gear up to the national anthems... here comes Italy's - by far the best at the tournament.
    • - For Italy, 23-year-old Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani is given his chance in place of Andrea Pirlo and Massimo Ambrosini comes in for Gennaro Gattuso. Antonio Cassano gets the nod to again partner Luca Toni, who is due a goal after his hatful of missed opportunities against France.
    • - So, as expected, Spain field their 'strongest' XI, and that means no place again for Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas. Still a midfield quartet consisting of Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Marcos Senna and David Silva should not be sniffed at.
    • - And tonight's referee will be Germany's Herbert Fandel
    • - ITALY TEAM: 1-Gianluigi Buffon; 19-Gianluca Zambrotta, 2-Christian Panucci, 4-Giorgio Chiellini, 3-Fabio Grosso; 22-Alberto Aquilani, 10-Daniele De Rossi, 13-Massimo Ambrosini; 20-Simone Perrotta; 18-Antonio Cassano, 9-Luca Toni
    • - SPAIN TEAM: 1-Iker Casillas; 15-Sergio Ramos, 5-Carles Puyol, 4-Carlos Marchena, 11-Joan Capdevila; 19-Marcos Senna; 6-Andres Iniesta, 8-Xavi, 21-David Silva; 7-David Villa, 9-Fernando Torres
    • - ITALY DISCIPLINARY SITUATION: Italy are missing two of their first-choice midfielders, Milan duo Andrea Pirlo and Gennaro Gattuso through suspension and Giorgio Chiellini, Luca Toni, Daniele De Rossi and Gianluca Zambrotta are all just a flash of yellow away from missing the semi-final, should they get there.
    • - SPAIN DISCIPLINARY SITUATION: Coach Luis Aragones is in the enviable situation of being able to pick a full strength starting XI, having rested most of them for their final group game against Greece. Carlos Marchena, Daniel Guiza, Alvaro Arbeloa are a booking away from a ban.
    • - Meanwhile, the Italians started slowly but still managed to escape the group of death thanks to victory over France and must now be, even though they are still not yet firing on all cylinders, a scary proposition for the Spanish.
    • - Spain started the tournament well - with a stunning 4-1 win over Russia - but have faded a little since, despite winning Group D with all nine points from three games.
    • - Talk of revenge tonight is probably a bit over the top - surely the Spanish don't hold vendettas that long - but nevertheless, meetings between these two are always fiercely contested and an entertaining evening is expected!
    • - Tonight's match sees the two European heavyweights meet in competition for the first time since the World Cup in 1994, when Mauro Tassotti memorably elbowed Luis Enrique - and Italy won 2-1.
    • - Hello and welcome to eurosport.yahoo.com's LIVE coverage of tonight's big game at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna!
