    • - Ukraine bow out, and they are furious with the officials over the goal that never was. England will play Italy in the quarter-finals. Group D runners-up France get Spain.
    • 90+3' There's the final whistle! England have beaten Ukraine and finish top of Group D. Let's not kid ourselves - it was a rotten performance, and England were incredibly lucky, but somehow Roy is getting it done!
    • 90+3' England are going to win the group! They can even afford to concede an equaliser!
    • 90+2' Goal in Kiev! Sweden are TWO UP against France!
    • 90+2' Yarmolenko goes for goal, but curls his effort just over!
    • 90+1' Three minutes of added time to be played.
    • 90' Ukraine want a penalty for handball against Terry... nothing doing! Eng;land come away on the break with Walcott and Ox, but they cannot make the most of it.
    • 89' England back in numbers, and Tymoshchuk's cross is blocked.
    • 88' Rakitskiy is down in the Ukrainian box, and England rather charitably put the ball out. They were on the attack.
    • 87' England change: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain comes on for Wayne Rooney.
    • 87' Sheva assaults Young with a terrible, wild hack. Anyone else and that might have been red. For you, Sheva, it's yellow.
    • 86' The second corner comes back out to Nazarenko who lofts across out for a goal kick.
    • 85' Nazarenko aims the corner towards Shevchenko at the near post, Terry puts the ball behind for another corner.
    • 84' Gerrard caught in possession trying to dribble out of his own half... not what England needed there.
    • 83' England change: Andy Carroll on for Danny Welbeck.
    • 82' Tymoshchenko with a rugby tackle on Gerrard. He's already on a booking and needs to be careful.
    • 81' Ukraine seeing plenty of the ball, but having to settle for shots from long range.
    • 80' Another wayward Ukrainian shot - Nazarenko blasts over from 25 yards.
    • 79' Ashley Cole booked for time-wasting.
    • 79' Rooney drives into Ukraine territory. He tries to exchange passes with Welbeck, but they get crowded out of space.
    • 78' Ukraine change: Serhiy Nazarenko on for Denis Garmash.
    • 78' Ukraine change: Bohdan Butko replaces Artem Milevskiy.
    • 77' Yarmolenko at the heart of everything positive for Ukraine, but it comes to Konplyanka who shoots wastefully over. Again.
    • 76' Gerrard's corner swirls deep for Rooney at the back post! He heads goalwards from the angle, but Pyatov saves!
    • 75' Welbeck finds Rooney inside the box, but the ball is scuffed away for a corner.
    • 75' Yellow card Rakitskiy for a block on Gerrard.
    • 74' Konoplyanka fires a long-range shot that is too hot for Hart to handle, and Lescott does brilliantly to get to the rebound first!
    • 73' Gerrard leads with the arm in an aerial challenge, and that's a yellow card.
    • 73' Oleg Blokhin went absolutely mad at the fourth official when that 'goal' went in.
    • 72' Corner Ukraine. What chance Sheva? It flies over everyone.
    • 71' While England got lucky with that goal, Artem Milevskiy should have been flagged offside in the build-up. Two wrongs, etc.
    • 70' Here's Sheva!! Andriy Shevchenko replaces Marko Devic to wild, wild applause from the Donbass Arena.
    • 69' England change: Theo Walcott comes on for James Milner. He works hard, but he has been poor tonight.
    • 68' Milner crosses from the right and Pyatov flaps unconvincingly... Ashley Cole fires the ball back in and the goalkeeper recovers really well to tip it behind!
    • 67' England are withstanding some fairly intense pressure here. Well, only if you class conceding a goal as 'withstanding'.
    • 66' Garmash finds Devic inside the box, but Johnson inctercepts coolly.
    • 65' Nice job by the extra official behind the goal there, by the way. Not.
    • 64' England have had a massive escape! Meanwhile Rooney hits a free-kick into the side netting and Tymoshchuk has been booked, presumably for dissent.
    • 63' It came after Milevskiy teed up Devic and his shot was half-saved by Hart - it looped up and Terry hooked it away. But the re[play shows the ball was just over the line!
    • 62' CONTROVERSY!! Goalline clearance by Terry and the goal is not given for Ukraine! But was it over the line??
    • 61' Milevskiy! What a chance! He heads over from five yards after being found unmarked! Definitely looked offside but the flag stayed down! Bad miss (almost as bad as Rooney's).
    • 60' Yarmolenko looks the biggest threat for Ukraine, and he wins a corner after exchanging passes with Milevskiy.
    • 59' Rooney penalised for a foul on Garmash inside the Ukrainian box.
    • 58' Young has found his range with these crosses, and delivers another threatening one for Terry... headed out for a throw.
    • 57' England look to build again through the centre... Gerrard misplaces a pass to the right to Milner. I'm tempted to say it hardly matters, but that's mean.
    • 56' Young with an inswinging cross from the left... just beyond Rooney and Milner.
    • 55' Goal in Kiev! Sweden are in front in Kiev thanks to Zlatan Ibrahimovic! The French are still going through... Ukraine must win to jeopardise that.
    • 54' Gerrard releases Rooney through the centre and it's a foot race now... he doesn't have the pace to get beyond the last defender, and instead has to tee up Milner whose shot is blocked!
    • 53' Ukraine win a corner on their left... Konoplyanka to take - to the edge of the box where Gerrard intercepts and starts a counter-attack.
    • 52' A cross comes in from the Ukraine right, and Hart tips it behind just in case it is dropping into the far corner.
    • 51' Well, it's nice to be on the right end of a goalkeeping howler for once, isn't it? In Pyatov's defence, there was a slight touch on the ball from a defender in front of him, but he should still have got in the way of it.
    • 50' Ukraine corner on the left.. England's defending a bit shaky but Parker glances a header more or less to safety.
    • 49' Well, he couldn't miss that one, could he? And as it stands, England top the group! England 7, France 5, Ukraine 3, Sweden 1.
    • 48' GOAL!! ROONEY!! It's a bizarre goal! After the corner is cleared, Gerrard fires it back into the six-yard box, the keeper makes a right hash of it and Rooney heads in from half a yard out!
    • 48' Gerrard with a corner from the England right... headed away by Tymoshchenko.
    • 47' England win a throw, and Konoplyanka goes down after a clash with Johnson. He's making a meal of it, and referee Kassai tells the Ukrainian to get on with it.
    • 47' The group, as it stands: France 5, England 5, Ukraine 4, Sweden 1.
    • 46' Second half under way! No personnel changes from either side.
    • 45' No stoppage time, and England get to the break goalless. Pretty ugly.
    • 44' So far, so Bloemfontein. England lacking drive, movement and basic technique. But as it stands, second place is theirs.
    • 43' On that run, Yarmolenko left Parker on his backside, and the midfielder continued chasing after him on his hands and knees! Pitiful.
    • 42' Yarmolenko goes on a mazy dribble inside the England box... he beats three players before eventually it is put behind for a corner.
    • 41' Scott Parker fires a dipping volley from long range. Makes it sound better than it is. He sort of scoops it into the air, and it drops wide.
    • 40' England knock the ball around. It's tiki-taka, only much slower and with no movement. But hey, they're trying.
    • 39' Gerrard tries a through ball for Ashley Young, who is well-covered and cannot work the ball into space.
    • 38' Well, the first half against Sweden was pretty turgid, and picked up after that. I'm clutching at straws here.
    • 37' England win a throw well forward on the right... taken short, but Johnson and Milner contrive to give the ball away. Sigh
    • 36' A long shot from Garmash bobbles a yard or so wide. Ukraine yet to properly test Hart, but they're still very much on top.
    • 34' Interesting stat from Castrol Edge: "England are yet to have a shot on target. They've scored with their 1st shot on target in 5 of their last 7 Euro Finals games."
    • 33' Parmolenko slides the ball beautifully through for Devic, who tries to cross from inside the box and Lescott heads clear.
    • 32' Gerrard's corner finds Terry unmarked, and now it's the defender's turn to head off target! Not as easy as Rooney's, mind.
    • 31' Young has some joy cutting in from the left and takes a shot... deflected over the top by Khacheridi. Corner.
    • 30' A slick move from Ukraine sees Yarmolenko jinks inside Ashley Cole and shoot from the edge of the box - Hart is down quickly and holds it!
    • 29' This we can say with complete certainty: Andy Carroll would have scored that header. Let the effigy-building commence!
    • 28' WHAT A MISS BY ROONEY!! Ashley Young's inswinging cross from the left finds an unmarked Rooney at the back post, but he somehow glances a free header wide!
    • 27' A bit of pass and move from England, which catches the ref by surprise and Viktor Kassai gets in the way!
    • 26' Clumsy, mistimed tackle by Tymoshchuk on Young. Gerrard to deliver from the England left... nobody can make clean contact and the ball comes to Milner on the opposite flank - he runs it out for a goal kick.
    • 25' Gerrard delivers the corner, Terry goes for a diving header with all the agility of a falling oak, and cannot make contact with the ball.
    • 24' England free-kick 40 yards from goal... Gerrard swings it in towards Rooney, it comes through to Pyatov and the goalkeeper fumbles it behind for a corner!
    • 23' Tom Adams: "Baines, Kelly and Downing sent out to warm-up with only 23 minutes on the clock."
    • 22' Gusev is well forward, cuts inside Young and heads towards the edge of the box... shoots over from 25 yards!
    • 22' It's that age-old problem; England just cannot keep hold of the ball. Ugh...
    • 21' Gusev is found with a lovely crossfield ball, but his cross from the right is a poor one. Headed clear.
    • 20' I think it's time for a moderately encouraging stat from OptaJoe: "17% - Ukraine have the worst shooting accuracy of any team at Euro 2012. Slice."
    • 19' Tom Adams in the Donbass Arena: "Ukraine better in all areas of the pitch at present. Doubts over whether they can keep it up but firmly on top right now."
    • 18' Konoplyanka shoots from the edge of the box - it hits Terry, and Tymoshchuk volleys the follow-up over!
    • 17' A good touch from Rooney... then a bad one, and England lose possession.
    • 16' Selin crosses diagonally towards Mileyskiy - it skips beyond the striker, and the two England centre-backs, and bounces through to Hart.
    • 15' A wild shot from Rakitskiy goes high and wide, but it's nearly all Ukraine early on.
    • 14' Pyatov punches unconvincingly from the England corner, but he finds a blue shirt and the co-hosts break...
    • 13' Johnson crosses diagonally towards Rooney - it's over him but Gusev puts it behind for a corner.
    • 12' Selin crosses from the left and Milevskiy's lay-off finds its way to Devic! Blocked by Scott Parker!
    • 11' Ashley Cole is well forward down the left and looks inside for Welbeck... he cannot find the Manchester United man and it rolls through to Pyatov.
    • 10' Gerrard looks long for Welbeck who lays it off for Rooney... poor control from the England number 10! The move breaks down.
    • 9' Space opens up in the middle for Yarmolenko, who takes a touch too many and cannot get a shot away. But what were England's centre-backs thinking?
    • 8' Blimey, England have hardly had a touch yet. I know we're set up to play on the counter, but this is a little worrying.
    • 7' Garmash has a shot from long range - it's just over, and Hart looked to have it covered.
    • 7' Terry lumbers back for a long ball over his head, and slices a bad clearance into the crowd.
    • 6' First contribution from Rooney, who runs purposefully down the left and wins a throw.
    • 6' Plenty of early possession for the hosts, as England struggle to get a foothold.
    • 5' Although they are obviously outnumbered, England have a sizeable contingent of fans here. More than at the Sweden game in Kiev, it seems.
    • 4' Terry finds Johnson, who plays the ball disappointingly out for a throw. Not good.
    • 3' Gusev chases down a backpass to Hart, and the England goalkeeper has to play it hurried;ly away to Cole on his left. Ukraine are certainly up for it tonight. They must win, of course.
    • 2' Konoplyanka cuts inside from the left and booms a right-foot shot high and wide from an angle.
    • 1' Yarmolenko looks for Mileyskiy in the box, and Lescott puts the ball out for a throw.
    • 1' Oh, spare us the countdown, will you? Right on choreographed cue, Ukraine kick off, playing from right to left as we see it.
    • 19:45 As the 'home' team according to UEFA, England are in white, with Ukraine in their blue change strip.
    • 19:41 Roy shakes his head in slightly curious style while mumbing the national anthem...
    • 19:40 And out come the teams! England led by Steven Gerrard, Ukraine by Anatoliy Symoshchuk in the absence of Andriy Shevchenko.
    • 19:40 A load of dancing miners have just done the pre-game show on a pitch that the teams weren't allowed to train on yesterday. Ho hum...
    • 19:35 I'm thinking England will scrape a draw, then we will spend four days convincing ourselves we have it in us to upset Spain - followed by an almighty reality check.
    • 19:35 A prediction from Zac Micallef (@zac_mic) - "2-1 to England, Carroll to come on and score a header. They will be 1-0 down at half time."
    • 19:30 More from Tom in Donetsk: "Ukraine fans are getting a Mexican wave going in a one-third-empty stadium, Hardly 'Welcome to hell' at the moment." Tom Adams on Twitter
    • 19:30 England have won three and lost one of their four previous meetings with Ukraine, though Ukraine did win the last game 1-0 in World Cup 2010 qualifying.
    • 19:25 And Tom Adams reports: "Ukraine keeper Andriy Pyatov just went racing past us here and into the tunnel while the other two keepers remain warming up. Hmm."
    • 19:25 Andriy Shevchenko has come out to warm up fully 15 minutes after his team-mates. Suggests he may not even be fit enough to appear off the bench. We'll see...
    • 19:20 Here's Roy Hodgson's pre-match assessment: "It's not just England who haven't always performed when the expectations were heightened. There's quite a few teams that have failed. It's a fact of life. We've come here with the England national team. We believe in ourselves and we want to do well. In some ways it's rather nice that people back home are hoping and even believing we can do well, and we're giving them something to dream about and cling onto."
    • 19:15 Speaking of stinking hot and at the stadium, time to introduce our man Tom Adams, who is in position at the Donbass Arena. He will be tweeting throughout the game, so give him a follow - @tomEurosport Tom Adams on Twitter
    • 19:10 Weather watch - the official stats are that the temperature is 23C and the humidity 44%. But anyone at the stadium will tell you it's a stinking hot evening.
    • 19:10 Here's a joyous piece to mull over - Richard Jolly on Wayne Rooney's failed international career for The National. (Web users only) Time for Rooney to crash party
    • 19:10 A note on yellow cards - it has been put about that they are wiped at the end of the group stage. Not so - only after the quarter-finals are any remaining bookings discarded. Says UEFA Article 21.04: "Single cautions from matches in the final tournament expire on completion of the quarter-finals, and are not carried forward to the semi-finals."
    • 19:05 Simple for SWEDEN - they are out. And as for UKRAINE, it's win or go home. Sorry, for UKRAINE it's win or stay home.
    • 19:05 FRANCE are also through with a draw - they can also lose by a single goal and go through if England also lose. They will win the group unless England better their result.
    • 19:05 Right, it's PERMUTATIONS TIME! ENGLAND will be through as long as they draw. If they want to win the group, they will have to better France's result (which could mean winning by more goals). If they lose, they will only go through if France lose by more goals - so not very likely, then. Group D table
    • 19:00 The other Group D game takes place at exactly the same time as this one, over in Kiev. Desmond Kane is your host for that one. Sweden v France: LIVE
    • 18:55 Hello and good evening. My name's Alex Chick, and I will be your waiter this evening. England need only a draw tonight to reach the Euro 2012 quarter-finals, but as any fan with half a memory knows, there's many a slip between cup and lip. Will England do it? Get in touch with me on Twitter - @alexchick81 Alex Chick on Twitter
    • 18:50 And yes, yes, Wayne Rooney is back for England after his suspension. He replaces Andy Carroll, the only change to the England XI. Roy Hodgson resists the temptation to start Theo Walcott, or to leave out either James Milner or the surprisingly ineffective Ashley Young.
    • 18:50 So the big news is that Andriy Shevchenko does not start for Ukraine because of a knee complaint. To put into perspective the significance of his absence, he has 48 goals in 110 caps. The starting Ukrainian forwards are Marko Devic (23 caps, 2 goals) and Artem Milevskiy (29 caps, 5 goals).

  4. Ukraine had 3 shots on target same as England, We scored with one of them they didnt. Its all water under the bridge now no point in blabbing on about what could of been, England won the game and the group. Whinge all you want, England will just laugh in your face. Cmon the England.

  5. No debate to be had here. If he had been rightly flagged offside in the build up (a yard offside) then there would never have been a shot to cross or not cross the line. I note the Ukranian coach has adopted the Wenger approach of "i didnt see it" regarding this point
