    • 90+4' FULL-TIME: Benfica 3-1 Newcastle. The hosts take a commanding first-leg lead after two goals in five second-half minutes turned the game on its head.
    • 90+3' Ameobi looking to make a nuisance of himself in the area ... but the flag is up and it looks like it's all over here.
    • 90+2' It's all Newcastle in these dying stages but they don't actually look like scoring.
    • 90+1' Krul launches a free-kick into the Benfica area as Newcastle push for a second goal.
    • 90' Four minutes of added time.
    • 89' Lima shoots from distance... way off target.
    • 88' It's already a huge task for Newcastle as it stands. Scoring two goals at home against this side will be tough enough - but keeping out a side packed full of attacking talent will be even tougher.
    • 87' Ameobi booked for pushing Gaitan. It certainly wasn't as bad as the Benfica man made out.
    • 86' Newcastle stuck in two minds here - do they stick or twist? Another away goal would be huge for them...
    • 85' Santon shoots - just wide of the near post. How he'd love to get one back after his error for the second goal.
    • 84' Benfica take a short corner but Cisse tracks back and battles well before winning a goal kick.
    • 83' NEWCASTLE sub: Dan Gosling on for the injured Simpson.
    • 81' Newcastle sub: Marveaux replaced by Ameobi who is making his 50th European appearance.
    • 80' Gaitan flicks it on but Matic heads into the side netting.
    • 79' Pereira sneaks in down the right but tries to beat one too many and Cabaye concedes yet another corner.
    • 78' Benfica still on the front foot here. If they manage to nick a fourth it would be very, very diffiuclt for Newcastle, even at a heaving St James' Park.
    • 77' Benfica sub: Maxi Pereira on for Cardozo.
    • 76' Newcastle look to break and could be in here through Cisse.... but the flag is up. Surely not! Sissoko was yards on side there.
    • 75' Sensational run by Marveaux ends with a ball out wide to Cisse. The Sengal frontman cuts in from the right but his cut back to Sissoko is woeful and Benfica clear.
    • 74' Cabaye shoots but it's straight into the wall.
    • 73' Perez booked for a foul on Cabaye. Chance for Newcastle 30 yards from goal with this free-kick.
    • 72' That's 28 in 35 games for Cardozo this season.
    • 71' Cardozo again... GOAL! Cool as you like. This time he places it high into the left-hand corner. Pressure? What pressure. 3-1 Benfica.
    • 70' NO GOAL! Cardozo thumps home the penalty as Krul dives to his right. But wait a minute... The REF wants a retake!!!!!
    • 69' A hand ball from Taylor following a right-wing corner. Chance for Benfica to make it 3-1....
    • 69' PENALTY to Benfica.
    • 68' Two corners in quick succession for Benfica. They are well and truly in control now.
    • 67' Lima continuing his hot-streak after netting a hat-trick in Benfica's 6-1 win at the weekend.
    • 66' A distaster for Santon but a great change from Benfica's point of view.
    • 65' GOAL! Benfica lead. The substitute Lima seizes on a poor back pass from Santon, rounds Krul and places the ball into the net from a tight angle.
    • 63' Gaitain powers down the left for Benfica and wins a corner off Sissoko. It's driven into the mix once again and despite allowing it to drop in the area, the visitors win the second ball and eanr a goal kick via deflection.
    • 62' BENFICA with a second sub: Lima on for the goalscorer Rodrigo.
    • 61' BENFICA sub: Enzo Perez on for Gomes.
    • 60' NEWCASTLE sub: The injured Perch replaced by Anita.
    • 59' Rodrgio climbs highest at the back post to guide a header over the top, but the referee penalises him for a foul so it wouldn't have counted.
    • 58' LATEST: Spurs are level. 2-2 at home to Basel. Gylfi Sigurdsson on target. Tottenham Hotspur v FC Basel: LIVE
    • 57' It's developed into an entertaining and thoroughly intriguing contest as we apporach the hour mark. Both sides have had chances to snatch the lead and both look very lively in the final third.
    • 56' It should be 2-1 to Benfica. Rodrigo gets in-behind on the right and cuts the ball across the area for Cardozo but the forward can't quite stretch enough to convert the ball into an empty net.
    • 55' Simpson surges forward down the right and bends in a low cross that Garay manages to clear on the stretch.
    • 54' The hosts are pressing here. Corner ball! Good defending by Gutierrez there. It's half-cleared and Benfica look to pen Newcastle back. Santon heads clear with Gaitan lurking while Yohan Cabaye is lucky not to concede a free-kick on the edge of the area after a clumsy-looking tackle.
    • 53' Marveaux teases a high ball into Cisse but Luisao towers above him and easily heads away to another Benfica shirt.
    • 52' Europa League round-up: Spurs are currently 2-1 down to Basel; Chelsea are 2-1 ahead against Rubin; Fenerbahce and Lazio are still goalless.
    • 51' Benfica respond and after some purposeful approach play Gomes cracks one high, wide and handsome.
    • 50' Corner to Newcastle. Taylor comes in at the back stick but he's crowded out and Benfica survive.
    • 49' On another night Cisse would have a hat-trick. He's hit the woodwork twice now. Very unlucky.
    • 48' Glorious chance for Newcastle! Cisse races clean through and clips a sublime chip beyond Artur but he can only watch on in agony as his effort bounces back off the post.
    • 47' Pardew's half-time team talk would no doubt have been along the lines of 'same again' - particularly looking at the first 25 minutes. Benfica will no doubt be looking to continue where they left off - in the ascendancy.
    • 46' KICK OFF! Benfica restart the match.
    • 45+1' HALF-TIME. Benfica 1-1 Newcastle.
    • 45+1' Another mix-up at the free-kick as Garay fails to get a shot away. Newcastle relieved to clear.
    • 45' Cardozo curls one over the bar but the ref brings play back for a foul on Gaitain by Simpson. Free-kick in a good position for Benfica.
    • 44' Benfica have been firmly in the driving seat since the equaliser and Newcastle will be keen to see the last minute or so out now and get into the dressing room all square.
    • 43' Another deep corner is fired to the back post where Ezequiel Garay guides a header wide of the near post.
    • 42' LATEST: Spurs 1-2 Basel. Emmanuel Adebayor pulls one back for the hosts.
    • 41' LATEST: Chelsea 2-1 Rubin.
    • 40' It's whipped in from the right and Krul is forced to deny a free header from Matic. Fortunately for the Geordies it was straight at the stopper.
    • 39' Another corner to Benfica earned by Andre Almeida.
    • 38' Rodrigo lines up another shot... well wide. The Spaniard isn't shy of shooting.
    • 37' STAT ALERT: Benfica have reached the last eight in all three of their Europa League campaigns.
    • 36' A mix-up between Cisse and Marveaux leads to another Benfica corner.... cleared again.
    • 35' Fantastic save! Krul shows great reactions to keep out Rodrigo after the youngster meets Gaitan's left-wing cross with a fizzing shot on the turn.
    • 34' Benfica growing as an attacking threat.
    • 33' More goals elsewhere: Basel 2-0 up at Spurs and Chelsea 2-0 ahead against Rubin.
    • 32' Corner to Benfica. It's their second of the match but it's well defended by the away team.
    • 31' Sissoko is down following a poor challenge by Luisao. But the good news for Newcastle fans is that he looks okay to continue.
    • 30' LATEST: Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 FC Basel Tottenham Hotspur v FC Basel: LIVE
    • 29' Newcastle look to regain their composure and Marveaux pulls the trigger from the right edge of the area but it's wide of the near post by some distance in the end.
    • 28' Rodrigo booked.
    • 27' How did that not go in? Krul pulls off a sensational double save before the second rebound is skewed off target.
    • 26' All of a sudden it's all Benfica. Important few minutes here for Newcastle.
    • 25' GOAL! Benfica pull level. Cardozo crashes in a thumping effort that Krul can only parry and Rodrigo arrives on cue to tuck home the rebound. All square.
    • 23' UNLUCKY! A HUGE chance for Newcastle. The visitors break once again and when Jonas Gutierrez cuts the ball back from the left towards Cisse, the net bulging seems inevitable. However, the striker's shot takes a deflection and when the keeper's touch fails to keep it out, the post comes to Benfica's rescue.
    • 22' STAT ALERT: Benfica and Chelsea are the only sides left in the competition who transferred from the UEFA Champions League group stage. They will be hoping to emulate the feat of inaugural winners Atletico, who won the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League after entering in the knockout phase.
    • 21' A rehearsed Benfica free-kick goes horribly wrong and Newcastle can break. Marveaux surges down the right and attempts to cut in but he's stopped in his tracks at the last moment. The visitors are looking to expose the Eagles' high line at every opportunity.
    • 20' James Perch booked.
    • 19' Just seen a replay of Cardozo's penalty shout. It did appear that Steven Taylor was tugging the shirt of the striker. It was minimal but the defender needs to be careful.
    • 18' Here come Benfica again... But it's a poor header from Gaitan which goes way over the top of the bar. No worries for Krul on that occasion.
    • 17' LATEST: Chelsea 1-0 Rubin Kazan. Fernando Torres. Chelsea v Rubin Kazan: LIVE
    • 16' Cardozo goes down in the area - no penalty says the referee. Nervy moment for the visitors there.
    • 15' Benfica look to respond but Gomes' effort from 25 yards is easy for Krul. Optimistic from the 19-year-old.
    • 14' That's only the 10th goal the Magpies have scored in the competition since the start of the group stage.
    • 13' Well there's the away goal Pardew was so keen to get. And they probably deserve it for a fine start to the proceedings.
    • 12' GOAL! Newcastle lead. Danny Simpson plays in Sissoko down the right who fizzes over a delicious centre for Cisse to arrive and smash the ball home from inside the six yard box.
    • 11' Newcastle looking dangerous on the counter here....
    • 10' STAT ALERT: No Newcastle player has featured in all 10 games since the start of the group stage, with Anita, Marveaux and Ameobi making eight appearances each. Tonight will be Marveaux's ninth in 11 with Ameobi and Anita to follow suit if they make it off the bench.
    • 9' Nicolas Gaitan thumps in a 20-yarder that Krul struggles to gather at the first attempt. The Dutch stopper manages to get to his feet and smother the loose ball but it was a bit rusty from the Newcastle custodian.
    • 8' Rodrigo cuts in from the left and tees up Andre Gomes who skews a long range drive way wide of target.
    • 7' STAT ALERT: Newcastle defender Vurnon Anita celebrates his 24th birthday today - with a place on the bench!
    • 6' First corner of the night goes to Benfica. It's flighted into the heart of the area but Moussa Sissoko manages to knee it to safety.
    • 6' However, Newcastle's record in five UEFA games against Portuguese sides isn't exactly eye-catching: W1 D3 L1.
    • 5' Benfica's record against English opposition: Pld 29 W9 D4 L16. Further cause for optimism for the Geordies? The Eagles have not won in their last five against PL opposition.
    • 4' Marveaux twinkles his way beyond his marker and clips a ball through for Cisse who comes within a whisker of collecting and having a clear sight of goal. Poor touch in the end but a good start from the visitors.
    • 3' Cisse races into the area on the right-side and drills in a low shot that Artur gets down well to smother.
    • 2' This is the first ever meeting between the two sides.
    • 1' KICK OFF! Newcastle gets us underway at a rain-soaked Estadio da Luz.
    • 20.00 So who's going to prevail tonight? Are Benfica going to continue their winning run in the competition or can Newcastle defy their woeful PL form and put in yet another fine display in Europe? We'll find out soon enough as the players preapre to enter the field of combat.
    • 19.55 Pardew is also delighted to have his highly-rated keeper, Krul back in the team. He added: "He's one of the best goalkeepers in the world in my opinion. Rob (Elliot) has done great, but Tim's our number one."
    • 19.51 More pre-match thoughts from Pardew: "It's the sort of stage this club should be on. It's brought some welcome relief from the tough season we've had in the Premier League. If we give the emphasis to them we will struggle, so we are going to try and knock them out of their stride and pressure them. That's easier said than done as they have some quality players. We feel we've picked a side that can get us that away goal."
    • 19.50 Another stat for you: If Newcastle sub Shola Ameobi gets the call to take to the field later in the evening he will make his 50th appearance in UEFA club competition. So far he has 15 goals in 49 matches.
    • 19.45 STAT ALERT: The Portuguese Liga leaders have notched over a century of goals so far this term - 105 to be exact.
    • 19.35 Benfica lining up with a 4-3-3 formation. Oscar Cardozo will lead the line through the middle with Nicolas Gaitan on the left and Rodrigo on the right. Nemanja Matic will patrol the centre of the midfield. It looks like Tim Krul could be in for a busy night on his return to the Newcastle team following a long absence. He is one of the four changes from City - not Gutierrez as previously mentioned.
    • 19.30 STAT ALERT: Benfica have won all four of their Europa League matches since dropping into the competition.
    • 19.23 And don't forget the other quarter-final taking place tonight - Fenerbahce v Lazio. Fenerbahce v Lazio: LIVE
    • 19.20 And you won't miss a kick of Tottenham's showdown with FC Basel if you keep tabs on our other live matchcast with all the latest from White Hart Lane. Tottenham Hotspur v FC Basel: LIVE

    • 19.13 Meanwhile, Benfica coach Jorge Jesus insists his high-flying Eagles will take nothing for granted. He said: "It will be a hard game. At this stage all the teams are strong and league performance doesn't always correspond with European form. The fact they are in 15th place in England doesn't mean a thing. They have played 12 matches in the Europa League and lost just once. Their squad is full of internationals. It will be an even tie that won't be decided in the first game."
    • 19.08 Magpies boss Alan Pardew believes they are facing one of Europe's best teams but has promised an improvement following the weekend loss at Man City. He said: "I know this city quite well and I have some contacts here who know Benfica well. Their stadium is going to be rocking - and after our result they will be looking forward to us coming - but we will certainly be better than we were on Saturday. We'll have played two of the best teams in Europe - in Man City and Benfica, this week."
    • 19.02 Newcastle are deploying a 4-2-3-1 formation with four changes from the side comprehensively beaten by Manchester City at the weekend. Davide Santon, James Perch, Sylvain Marveaux and Jonas Gutierrez come into the starting XI.
    • 19.01 BENFICA: Artur, Luisao, Garay, Andre Almeida, Gaitan, Matic, Andre Gomes, Oscar Cardozo, John, Rodrigo, Melgarejo... Subs: Paulo Lopes, Roderick, Maxi Pereira, Aimar, Urreta, Perez, Lima. /// NEWCASTLE: Krul, Simpson, Taylor, Yanga-Mbiwa, Santon, Perch, Cabaye, Marveuax, Sissoko, Gutierrez, Cisse... Subs: Elliot, Williamson, Gosling, Anita, Obertan, Ameobi, Campbell.
    • 19.00 Good evening and welcome to tonight's coverage of the Europa League quarter-final first-leg between Benfica and Newcastle at the Estadio da Luz.
