    • 90+3 Full time. Newcastle United 3-0 Bordeaux. Fine display from the Toon Army, who had the game won after 55 minutes. Cisse added to Ameobi's opener, and Henrique's own goal from the first half. That's Newcastle's seventh straight home win in Europe.
    • 90+2 Cisse with time and space in the Bordeaux half. But the striker decides not to head towards goal and instead decides to retain possession.
    • 90+1 Jussie looks for Bellion down the right, but his long range ball is miss placed, Harper is quick off his line to claim it.
    • 89' Diabate hits a long ball looking for Jussie. But it is over hit and goes out for a goal kick.
    • 88' Needlessly Perch earns himself a yellow card for a late challenge on N'Guemo. Will that booking come back to haunt Perch later in this competition?
    • 87' Ferguson speeds down the left for Newcastle, his through ball looks to set Cisse free. But yet again the striker has strayed offside.
    • 86' Diabate hits a cross-come-shot into the area, but it is too close to Harper who claims it easily.
    • 85' Bellion gets in a tame cross from the right with his left foot, but it is easily cleared by Perch.
    • 84' Still no pressure on the ball from Bordeaux as Newcastle play keep ball along their back four.
    • 83' It seems very much like the job has been done for the Toon Army.
    • 82' The frantic pace of the first half has been replaced with players walking everywhere.
    • 81' This game is certainly petering out.
    • 80' The play is now all in Newcastle's half. But the Toon Army are organised and defending well.
    • 79' Landry N'Guémo plays a cross into the box from the right, but Bellion had strayed offside.
    • 78' Bordeaux are now seeing lots of the ball, but there is very little urgency from them. Newcastle are happy to sit back and watch their opponents spray the ball around aimlessly.
    • 77' Bordeaux keep trying to build attacks, but it is all very slow, and time is running out for them to mount a come back.
    • 76' A lot of the play is in around the half way line.
    • 75' Both teams play a bit of head tennis in the middle of the field.
    • 74' Cisse tries an acrobatic shot from an Obertan cross, but it goes way over. The striker had also been flagged for offside, so it wouldn't have counted.
    • 73' Jussie has a chance to get Bordeaux back in the match, as he is put clean through on goal, but Harper spreads himself really well to block the shot. Excellent save.
    • 72' Bigirimana's corner doesn't beat the first man at the near post. Easily cleared.
    • 71' Obertan wins a corner down the left.
    • 70' Newcastle pass it around their back four.
    • 69' Second sub for Newcastle. Dan Gosling replacing Tiote. It is tactical, so don't worry toon army fans.
    • 68' Jussie gets a cross in on the right, but it's headed clear by Williamson.
    • 67' The sting has really gone out of the game. Newcastle are making no effort to score a fourth, Bordeaux, are struggling to get, and then maintain possession.
    • 66' Former Sunderland player David Bellion comes on for Gouffran as Bordeaux make their final change.
    • 65' Obertan is still full of running, he has really impressed tonight.
    • 64' Newcastle are just playing keep ball in the midfield.
    • 63' Saivet hits a shot from the edge of the area that is well blocked by Simpson.
    • 62' Bordeaux look like they don't want to waste any energy trying to get back into this. They seem happy to allow United just to maintain possession.
    • 61' The pace of the game has slowed. Newcastle content just to pass it around.
    • 60' Newcastle make there second sub of the night. Gael Bigirimana replacing a tired looking Yohan Cabaye. Job done as far as the Frenchman is concerned.
    • 59' Finally Anita gives the ball away, but Bordeaux's attack leads to nothing.
    • 58' Newcastle decide not to attack and play it all the way back to Harper in goal.
    • 57' Ameobi somehow retains possession despite four challenges from Bordeaux players, delighting the home fans.
    • 56' Bordeaux seem to have lost belief as Newcastle pass it around with ease in midfield.
    • 55' Cabaye has no interest in just keeping possession, he tries a long range effort for the umpteenth time tonight. But it sails harmlessly over.
    • 54' Newcastle will no doubt look to try and take the sting out of the game, after getting the three goal cushion.
    • 53' The game is still frantically open. Both sides exchanging possession regularly.
    • 52' After the goal, there is a stoppage after a streaker gets onto the field of play. Unbelievably, the first person to approach him is Saivet. Eventually the game re-starts.
    • 51' So does that third goal make it game over?
    • 50' Straight down the other end, and it is Newcastle 3-0 Bordeaux. Cisse with a clinical finish (off his shin), after a fine low cross from Shane Ferguson. Although it should'nt have stood, as the front man was actually fractionally off side when the ball was played into the box.
    • 49' What an attempt from Saivet, he back heels the ball onto the post after a vicious cross from the right. Superb skill, and he is a little unlucky.
    • 48' Obertan is making the most of a rare start. He looks really lively down the Newcastle left.
    • 47' Harper gets an early touch of the ball as Saivet's through ball is over hit.
    • 46' Bordeaux have made two subs, both tactical. Plasil and Obraniak are replaced by N'Guemo and Diabate.
    • 46' One forced substitution for Newcastle. Keeper Rob Elliot is replaced by Steve Harper.
    • 45' The half time whistle goes. It's been a lively affair. Some how Newcastle have found themselves 2-0 up. Bordeaux have looked good, but lacked bite upfront. The difference at half time was Obertan's mazy run and cross for Ameobi. And Henrique's disastrous own goal.
    • 44' Sane just cuts out a Cabaye through ball. If he hadn't Ameobi would've been clean through.
    • 43' Bordeaux respond. But Plasil's through ball is over hit, Elliot coming off his line to claim the ball.
    • 42' That could have been three! After a bit of a goal mouth scramble, the ball falls to Anita, who forces Carrasso into a diving save to his right from just inside the area.
    • 39' And talking of a horrible mess...... Henrique puts it into his own net in comical fashion. A ball in from the right is seemingly heading straight into the arms of Carrasso, but with no striker in sight, Henrique comes in at pace to kung-fu kick the ball into the goal. It's a shocker. Newcastle United 2-0 Bordeaux.
    • 38' Cabaye tries a shot from a similar range, but gets it horribly wrong.
    • 37' Sane hits a stunning grass cutter from roughly 40 yards out. It forces Elliot into a smart save. Fine effort from Sane.
    • 36' Tiote wins the ball back in the midfield before Ameobi is dispossed.
    • 35' Both teams are playing some neat football upto eachothers final third, but they are both just lacking that final killer pass.
    • 34' Anita carelessly gives the ball away in the last third of the pitch.
    • 33' Finally a bit of respite for the Toon, as Obertan dispossess Saivet to lead a Newcastle break.
    • 32' The French side are beginning to dominate. They win a succession of corners, the majority of them are well dealt with by Williamson.
    • 31' Lots of time and space Saivet on the right. But the winger can't pick out either of the two Bordeaux front men.
    • 30' Ferguson is well tackled by Mariano down the Newcastle left.
    • 29' Tiote surges forward, but his cross field ball is over hit, and Carrasso collects it.
    • 28' The corner is too close to Elliot, who claims it easily.
    • 27' Fine build up play from Bordeaux, this time down the right. The ball eventually reaches Gouffran, he turns sharply, but his shot his superbly deflected over by Williamson.
    • 26' Bordeaux beginning to assert themselves on the match more. Much of the game is now being played in the Newcastle half.
    • 25' Obertan has the chance to break for Newcastle, but miss places a pass and the move comes to an abrupt end.
    • 24' Good news, as play re-starts Tiote jogs back on.
    • 23' He (Tiote) is back up on his feet, but he has hobbled off the field.
    • 22' It looks like a different injury to his calf injury that has kept him out for a number of matches this season.
    • 21' Worrying sign for Newcastle, Tiote has gone down off the ball clinching his right ankle.
    • 20' That goal seems to have helped Newcastle settle, they are beginning to enjoy more of the possession in the midfield now.
    • 19' Cheick Tiote into the referee's notebook for a late tackle Saivet.
    • 17' It is a very 'watchable' game. Obertan and Cabaye really look in the mood in the Newcastle midfield.
    • 16' The goal had been coming, although it could have come from either team.
    • 15' Ameobi opens the scoring for Newcastle. Superb work by Gabriel Obertan down the left, as he wriggles away from his marker. He then plays a sublime low cross for Ameobi, who taps in from a yard out. Newcastle United 1-0 Bordeaux.
    • 13' Neither team controlling the play, both still looking to get forward at every possible opportunity.
    • 12' Cabaye bends the free kick over the wall and into the side netting. Close again for the French man.
    • 11' Newcastle break fast, and Shoala Ameobi is played through by Cabaye. He's cut down by Henrique, who is arguably the last man for Bordeaux. But the defender gets away with just a booking. Free kcik Newcastle on the edge of the area........
    • 10' Yoan Gouffran heads tamely wide at the far post. Struggled to generate any pace on the header.
    • 9' Bordeaux are playing at a quicker tempo. You can see why they've had such a good start to the season.
    • 8' Jaroslav Plasil wastes a free kick on the left, as he crosses straight into the arms of Rob Elliot.
    • 7' Henri Saivet slices a shot wide from distance.
    • 6' Cabaye looks eager to get on the score sheet tonight, as he takes a long range shot from 30 yards. This time it's straight at Carrasso, who is able to hold onto the well struck strike.
    • 5' Best chance of the game so far, and Ludovic Obraniak really should score. After some fine link up play down the left, a bullet cross is headed inches over from six yards out.
    • 4' Neither side have been able to keep possession for any length of time, as the frantic pace of the game continues.
    • 3' It's a very open start to the game, both teams looking to get forward early on.
    • 2' Cabaye back in the team tonight, very almost opens the scoring after 70 seconds. On the right hand corner of the box, he tries an adventurous effort with the outside of his foot. It goes narrowly wide of Cedric Carrasso's right hand post.
    • 1' Bordeaux get us underway.
    • 20.05 The teams are out, despite being at home, Newcastle are playing in their away strip, a luminous yellow number. Bordeaux in their home navy blue kit.
    • 20.01 Newcastle stuttered to an opening 0-0 draw away to Maritmo in Group D. Where as, Bordeaux smashed Club Brugge 4-0 in France. So it is Newcastle who will feel they are more desperate for a result tonight, as a loss could leave their Europa League hopes hanging by a thread.
    • 19.59 But, Newcastle are on a six-game winning streak at home in Europe. So depending which stat you look at, this match could go one of two ways......Or end up a draw.
    • 19.55 It's the first time these two sides have met in a UEFA club competition. But Newcastle's record against French opponents isn't great. In 11 matches they have only won two. Just one of those wins coming at St James' Park.
    • 19.50 Toon fans will be happy to see Yohan Cabye return to the team, but will no doubt be a little anxious to see many of their 'star' players not start. However, they do have ammo on the bench with both Demba Ba and Hatem Ben Arfa.
    • 19.45 Newcastle: Elliot, Cabaye, Simpson, Williamson, Anita, Cisse, Perch, Ameobi, Tiote, Obertan, Ferguson. /// Bordeaux: Carrasso, Henrique, Obraniak, Sane, Gouffran, Jussie, Plasil, Saivet, Mariano, Planus, Tremoulinas.
    • 19.37 TEAM NEWS: Bordeaux meanwhile, make just one change from their impressive 2-0 win away at Olympique Lyon. Cheick Diabate is replaced by Henri Saivet.
    • 19.31 TEAM NEWS: Pardew makes eight changes from the side that drew 2-2 with Reading on Saturday. The only players to keep their places are; Cheick Tiote, Papiss Cisse and James Perch.
    • 19.25 Team news should be with us very shortly. It will be interesting to see how many 'big' names Alan Pardew has in his starting line up. Bordeaux are so far unbeaten this season, and emphatically won their opening Group D game against Club Brugge 4-0. So what ever side the Toon Army put out, they can expect a stern test from their French opposition.

  1. Good to see keeper Harper being rediscovered again. He did show in times past moments of brilliance in goal. Hope he can produce it consistently for Newcastle, except when they play Liverpool (my team) of course. With Newcastle now a stronger team maybe he will do well again.

  4. Cards ,please read 45,it says GOOD WIN !! but you must admit Girondins( French for Dog and Duck) werent very good and its a FACT you did get one of their players to score for you and Cisse was offside, and as I said the crowd was poor !!

  5. Joseph, stop being a complete tool. Just admit it for once NUFC were the better team. We even stopped playing for the last 20 minutes and Bordeaux still couldn't do anything.

Shaun,Where are the Mackems? where were your "magnificent" fans? Good win, even though an own goal and one offside against a moderate French team, but 31,000 is pi55 poor ,big club ,yeah right! Dont ever take the pi55 out of anyones crowds again ! Liverpool,40,000 now thats a big club !!

  13. Have to admit I expected more from Bordeaux, after they dismantled Bruges a couple of weeks ago, but you have to take your hat off to the way Newcastle have turned themselves around over the last 3 years, and the job that Pardew is doing. Newcastle now have a very good team and are more than capable of grabbing 4th spot at the end of the season. They also always get a big attendance no matter what the match or who is the opposition. If the stadium is ever fully completed so that the two sides of the stadium currently smaller are enlarged to fit with the two larger sides, then St. James's Park would be one mightily impressive stadium - and very intimidating for visiting teams. It's capacity would easily be 80,000!
