    • FT There is the final whistle and it will be Villa who progress to the next round with a solid defensive display after going down to 10 men. It was a poor performance from Rovers really, despite a bit of fight in the first half after they went that first goal down
    • 89' There will be three minutes of added time but there's little point really as Rovers look poor and completely lacking ideas and if anything Villa are finishing the strong of the two sides despite having one less player
    • 86' Oooh! Benjani really should have scored as he misses a comfortable opportunity from just 12 yards out, on the right side of the box
    • 85' Jason Roberts is brought off in favour of Benjani as Rovers try one last ditch attempt to get back in this clash. Needing two goals in five minutes though is just too big an ask for the visitors
    • 81' Downing's header finds Reo-Coker in the centre of the box but teh Villa midfielder has his on target shot by Hanley and Robinson clears as Rovers yet again escape
    • 81' Downing continues to press forward as he forces yet another great save from Robinson, with the ball reaching him in the box just to the left of the penalty spot. Robinson really is the only thing preventing this from being four or five one to Villa
    • 76' Downing forces Robinson as he drills his left-footed shot from the left of the penalty and despite their one-man disavantage, Villa still look the more likely to score
    • 73' Albrighton is the latest replacement for Villa as they bring off Delfouneso to further try and defend their lead
    • 72' Hoilett skies a right-footed shot from right in front of goal, just shy of 20 yards out. If he had made better contact with that, the Rovers would in all likelihood have been right back in this clash but he missed the target and that pretty much sums up Rovers day
    • 70' Rovers are also getting involved in the substitutions now as they bring on Vincenzo Grella in place of Keith Andrews
    • 69' Villa are locking it down now as Pires is brought off in favour of defender James Collins as the hosts attempt to defend their lead for the final 20 minutes
    • 65' Despite Baker's red card being clearly justified, Hoilett's every touch is being booed by Villa fans, who either didn't see or don't care about the challenge!
    • 62' Baker lunges in for a shocking tackle on Hoilett and is immediately shown a straight red card. Hoilett is left on the floor having taken a boot to the lower abdomen/groin region and there's little argument as Baker trudges off the pitch
    • 61' Keith Andrews misses an absolute sitter as he receives the ball right on to his head and yet somehow manages to miss past the right post from only six yards out
    • 58' Downing tries to find Delfouneso with a cross, but the ball strikes his target and goes on of play as another move breaks down for the hosts
    • 55' Bannan whips his corner in from the right and finds Clark, scorer of the afternoon's first goal, but his first time shot drills past the right post and Rovers narrowly escape once more
    • 54' Walker drills a low shot towards the goal from about 25 yards out but his shot is blocked by Grant Hanley and goes behind for a corner
    • 51' Things haven't really got going yet in this second half as Villa are all over Blackburn but can't quite keep a hold of the ball beyond the midfield
    • 49' Villa are looking to kill this match off early in the second half as Baker narrowly misses a header past the right post off Pires's swinging corner from the left
    • 47' Grant blocks a shot from Pires and that should be good for his confidence after that shocking header in teh first half that handed the Frenchman his goal
    • 46' Stuart Downing is the only half-time substitution as he comes on to replace Gabriel Agbonlahor, who pickled up a bit of a knock in the first half, in midfield as things get back underway at Villa Park
    • HT There is the half-time whistle and it's been a pretty breathless first half. But Villa lead 3-1 at the interval, two soft goals putting the hosts in firm control of this clash. Although Rovers are by no means out of it if they can get one of those goals back
    • 45' There will be one minute of added time to end this first half as Agbonlahor misses the target past the right post with a specultive shot from 20 yards out
    • 44' Olsson rattles the crossbar with his right-footed shot from nearly 20 yards out! That had Friedel well-beaten and only the woodwork has maintained Villa's two goal cushion right now
    • 42' GOAL VILLA! Baker finds Delfouneso in the penalty box and the Villa striker has little trouble in heading home into the bottom-left of the net. He was only on the penalty spot, six yards out, and that would have been harder to miss than to score for the Villa man
    • 41' Reo-Coker has been very quiet so far today but he now comes up with a cracking clearance to deny Olsson as Rovers continue to be all over Villa just before the break
    • 40' Villa are only just weathering the Rovers storm at the moment as Friedel pulls off a fantastic save to deny Samba as he headed the ball goalward fromthe left post
    • 38' Ooooh! Pires blocks a shot on the goal-line from Kalinic. The Frenchman didn't know too much about that one and after putting the hosts ahead at one end, Pires has not kept his side ahead with a cracking block on the line
    • 37' Pedersen's free kick, after Clark brought down Hoilett, is easily collected by Friedel as Blackburn once again fail to make anything off a potential opportunity
    • 35' GOAL VILLA! A shockingly poor defensive header from youngster Grant Hanley puts the ball right into Robert Pires' path and the Frenchman just doesn't miss that kind of opportunity as he lashes the half-volley into the back of the net
    • 32' Heskey finds Bannan but the latter completely mis-times his shot and the ball fizzes past the left post from about 25 yards out. That didn't even require a save from Robinson
    • 28' Heskey bundles Olsson down resulting in a free kick for Blackburn, which Robinson thumps upfield to no real avail
    • 25' Down at the other end of the field, Kyle Walker goes down in the box but referee Lee Probert is having none of it and simple waves play on
    • 25' Bannan, who clearly isn't nervy of having a go from distance, flashes a shot about a foot over the bar from 35 yards out
    • 21' Rovers have let Villa get themselves back on the front foot now when they should have been pressing on from their equaliser as Pires swings a corner in from the left, albeit a corner that comes to nothing
    • 18' GOAL ROVERS! The visitors are level as Pederson picks up the ball in the midfield before finding Salgado on the wing. Salgado makes a cracking run in behind the full back before offloading to substitute Kalinic in the middle. Kalinic did make heavy weather of that as he put the ball very close to Friedel but the ball ends up in the back of the net and Rovers are all level
    • 16' Rovers are starting to stroke the ball around pretty neatly as they finally settle after that injury/goal blow. They are forcing their way into this match slowly but surely as Hoilett fumbles a shot towards Friedel
    • 14' Villa are all over Rovers so far today as Agbonlahor runs at Salgado and make up some ground before crossing to Delfouneso, who sees his left-footed volley whistling over the bar
    • 11' GOAL VILLA! Having only just had his last header blocked, Clark does open the scoring for the hosts, heading home from the far post off Bannan's corner
    • 11' Sure enough, just 10 minutes in and Santa Cruz does depart. He will be reaplaced by Kalinic, whose first job will be to help defend a corner after that blocked shot from Clark
    • 10' Ciaran Clark flashes a header goalward only to see the ball blocked by Salgado as Villa continue to push forward and keep Rovers on the back-foot. Even more concerningly for the visitors Roque Santa Cruz is looking like he will have to be replaced as he signals to the dug-out
    • 7' Rovers are beginning to settle in on this clash now as Salgado just misses to the right of the goal with his shot from the right of the penalty area
    • 6' The hosts fails to make nothing of their corner as Bannan fails to get his shot on target and Rovers escape with Robinson gettign a free goal kick
    • 5' Villa draw the first corner of the day as Emile Heskey draws a block from Grant Hanley off his shot just to the right of the penalty spot
    • 1' Ooof. Great start by Villa as Barry Bannan picks up the ball on the left before firing a shot goalward from about 25 yards out. He misses just to the side of the right post but Robinson didn't look all that confident about that one
    • 1' We're underway at Villa Park ...
    • - It's not exactly packed at Villa Park today although in fairness to the fans it is absolutely freezing in Birmingham today!
    • - BLACKBURN meanwhile look like this: Robinson, Salgado, Samba, Hanley, Olsson, Nzonzi, Andrews, Pedersen, Hoilett, Roberts, Santa Cruz. Subs: Bunn, Jermaine Jones, Kalinic, El-Hadji Diouf, Grella, Mwaruwari, Lowe.
    • - Right, the teams are in and ASTON VILLA line up like this: Friedel, Walker, Cuellar, Clark, Baker, Pires, Reo-Coker, Bannan, Agbonlahor, Heskey, Delfouneso; Subs: Marshall, Downing, Ashley Young, Albrighton, Delph, Petrov, Collins
    • - With John Carew having joined Stoke on loan, Emile Heskey is set to return to the starting line-up. Ciaran Clark (hamstring), Fabian Delph (knee) and Kyle Walker (back) are all available again. But Luke Young and Stephen Ireland are both still sidelined with knee injuries.
    • - Villa's record signing, Darren Bent, is cup-tied for today's clash. Bent, who signed from Sunderland for £18 million, played and scored for the Black Cats when beaten by Notts County in the previous round.
