    • 75' Lampard arrives to take over from Ramires. Visiting fans give him a big reception.
    • 74' Redmond lets fly from 30 yards out. Ball was struck well, but always rising over the bar.

    • 70' Will that inspire a City comeback. The home fans are certainly well in the mood for this now.

    • 63' The visiting fans are armed with songs about heading for Wembley. Look a certainty for a place in the last eight.
    • 62' Torres is going to be booked after a late challenge on Spector. Not much joy for him this evening. So far at least.
    • 61' A 2-0 lead now for the visiting side. That Chelsea bench look delighted. And no wonder. They have been the better side in this second period.
    • 60' GOAL! A stunning finish from Meireles. What a finish that was! 25 yards out. No chance for Doyle.
    • 59' Changes coming for Chelsea as Sturridge replaces Kalou while Burke is on for Rooney.
    • 58' Mata races in on the blind side of Davies. Inches wide with a header. Almost the killer second for Chelsea, but not quite. We remain at 1-0. Chelsea looking the likelier side all of a sudden.
    • 57' Torres on the break for Chelsea, but another disappointing final ball from the forward who seems to be shorn off all his confidence.
    • 56' Almost a smile on the face of manager Roberto Di Matteo when that hit the net. Work to be done now for Birmingham.

    • 52' Both sets of fans making a fair bit of noise. Mata looking for Ramires, but Gomis wins it for Birmingham.
    • 51' Chelsea looking a bit more assured here. N'daw caught offside as he went too soon.
    • 50' Zigic complaining about the lack of quality into his feet. Ibanez makes a superb challenge on Mata. Had to get that spot-on.
    • 49' Mutch with the delivery, but Cech is out to punch clear before Zigic is deemed to be offside seconds later.
    • 48' Kalou can't keep the ball in play, and the home team win a corner.
    • 47' Luiz having to be very mindful to header the ball away from Zigic.
    • 46' Chelsea get this game off and running. One win in seven for Chelsea before this match. Badly need a big second half.
    • 45+2' There goes the whistle for the break! All level at 0-0 in this one. Should be an interesting second period.
    • 44' Two minutes to be added to the half.
    • 43' Chance for Torres. He turns to screw the shot wide of goal. Poor, poor finishing by the forward who should have worked Doyle with that effort.
    • 42' Ivanovic drives the ball off a home shirt. And that is a corner to Chelsea, who are beginning to look the likelier side.
    • 41' Mata drives a shot at goal from 20 yards. Straight down the throat of Doyle who saves with some ease.
    • 40' A bit of pushing and shoving in that box, before Chelsea finally deal with the danger from Mutch's corner.
    • 39' Superb stop by Cech! Great cross by Mutch, but Cech does wonderfully well to nudge over Zigic's header from 12 yards out. Agile header by the big forward.
    • 38' Di Matteo exuding a calm persona on the touchline as Mutch tries to break for the home side.
    • 37' Bertrand tries to bolster the Chelsea attack, but Doyle has the ball in his paws moments later.
    • 36' This pitch also playing its part. Not exactly lush grass out there. Mata comes up with a cross, but N'daw hammers it long down the park.
    • 35' Birmingham battling hard in the Championship for a play-off place. Can see why Chelsea aren't getting it easy. The home side are very well organised.
    • 34' Mikel picks up the ball for Chelsea. Too many balls aimless at the moment from Chelsea. Difficult yet to predict a winner from this tie.
    • 33' Mata opts to loft the ball to the back post. Met by Cahill at the back post, but he ends up nodding wide of goal. We remain at 0-0 here.
    • 32' Ramires causing N'daw no end of problems as Chelsea win a corner. Chance here to apply some pressure.
    • 31' Ramires with the cross. Torres can't get it under control before Rooney whacks the loose ball away from him. More frustration for Torres.
    • 30' Rooney trying to keep the loose ball in play, but it goes beyond him for a goalkick to the visiting side. Birmingham working tirelessly.
    • 29' Torresn and Ramires trying to combine with Mata looking to run from deep, but the offside flag is up against the Chelsea forward.
    • 28' Zigic is going to be booked for a late challenge on Cahill. A poor, poor challenge. Lucky to avoid a red card for that.
    • 27' Rooney rises in the box. Wasn't too easy to get the header on target, but it flies off his head and wide of the Chelsea goal.
    • 26' Torres guilty of taking a heavy touch as the ball hit off his knee before running wide. Yet to find the pace of this game.
    • 25' Elliott turns in the box. Spins and fires the shot at goal, but Cech dives to make the stop. Fine save.
    • 24' Ramires complaining after he caught Gomis late. Didn't look too much in that.
    • 23' Kalou looking for Ramires. Decent ball, but Redmond was scampering back to make the clearance. First goal is going to be crucial in this contest.
    • 22' Redmond racing away from Zigic's pass. Neat play by the forward to send Redmond clear on the flank, but Luiz dashes back to make the clearance. Smart defending.
    • 21' Spector flicks the ball at goal. A bit of fresh air under that ball as it flew goalwards. Cech was pedalling back, but takes the ball under the bar.
    • 20' Torres flicks the ball through to Mata, but he is a couple of yards offside as Terry and Lampard look on from the bench.
    • 19' Birmingham really applying as much pressure as possible to the ball. Cech is the captain of Chelsea tonight. Zigic set to return to the action.
    • 18' Ramires drives into the box, but smacks the shot wide of goal. Ball spins wide off the right boot of Ramires and wide. It remains 0-0.
    • 17' Much of a muchness. Hopes of a corner for the home side there, but the ball just hit back of Mutch for a goalkick to Chelsea.
    • 16' Think Zigic is needing a few stitches in that wound. Rooney puts pressure on Bertrand. A throw-in to Birmingham out wide.
    • 15' Zigic and Luiz again wrestling for the ball. Zigic caught on the head by the boot of Luiz. Blood pouring from his head, but he should be ok.
    • 14' Zigic needing a spot of treatment after a clash with Luiz. Game swinging from end to end here. Bertrand knocks the ball out of play.
    • 13' Kalou on the dash for Chelsea, but Mutch is well positiioned to tidy up for the home side.
    • 12' Chelsea attempting to get some pace into their play. Birmingham well up for the physical battle here.
    • 11' Redmond trying to cut a dash into the area. Lovely piece of play, but Luiz is on hand to make the challenge. Goalkick to the visitors.
    • 10' Redmond is quite clearly happy to have a go at Ivanovic whenever he can. Home fans making plenty of noise. Torres has gone 22 games without a goal.
    • 9' Doyle is quickly off his line to snatch the ball away from Torres. Alert piece of goalkeeping.
    • 8' Another super little flick-on by Zigic for Rooney, but he goes too soon. Just offside there.
    • 7' The home side's ploy is to aim for Zigic in the middle. Redmond floats a ball over from out wide, but too much pace on the cross. Goalkick to the visitors.
    • 6' Not exactly in pristine condition this pitch. Elliott tries to send Gomis racing in on goal, but Chelsea survive that move. Lovely play by Zigic in the build-up.
    • 5' Corner comes to nothing before Luiz runs the ball out of play. Energetic start by both sides here.
    • 4' Redmond fires a shot at goal at the other end. Hits off Ivanovic, and flies behind the goal for a corner.
    • 3' Lovely ball by Torres. Picks out Mata on the run. He was racing in on goal, but the shot is palmed wide by Doyle. What a chance that was. Almost the opening goal.
