    • - Cue 'wild' celebrations (no one seems particularly bothered). Louis van Gaal has teh winning touch. Can he take that into the Premier League with him? Thanks for joining me. Until next time.
    • 90' And there goes the whistle! United win it, thanks to goals by Rooney, Mata and Lingard, despite Liverpool having taken the lead through Steven Gerrard's penalty.
    • 89' Well, that should be that. United will be crowned champions of the Champions Cup and Louis van Gaal is off to a winning start.
    • 88' GOAL! Lingard scores a third for United! Young centres for Kagawa, who miscontrols but Lingard has no such problems, taking one touch before firing past Mignolet!
    • 86' Rooney is pulled up for a foul on Sterling, and United's skipper gets booked.
    • 83' With effectively two different XIs out there now, it's all a bit disjointed.
    • 80' Kagawa centres and there's three United players lining up to take a shot at goal. None of them are able to.
    • 78' Off goes Herrera, on comes Lingard for United. These substitutions have really disrupted play.
    • 77' And another Liverpool change as Coutinho is replaced by Marcus Pedersen.
    • 74' Sakho is replaced by Toure as Brendan Rodgers makes another change.
    • 73' Despite Sterling's best efforts, it's difficult to see Liverpool finding a way to score here. The pace of the game has dropped significantly again.
    • 71' Sterling again causes some problems for United. The England man has been by far Liverpool's most dangerous player tonight.
    • 69' Kagawa and Nani on for Hernandez and Mata. Chicarito doesn't look too pleased with himself. Rightly so, he's hardly set the world on fire tonight.
    • 67' Rooney knew full well that wasn't a goal - he had a grin on his face.
    • 66' Meanwhile, here's photographic evidence of the contact between Herrera and Sterling for the penalty that wasn't given in the first half.

    • 65' GOAL! Rooney scores again in the most bizarre of circumstances! No! Ruled out! The ref originally gives a goal but after some discussion it's chalked off! Young's high cross appeared to hit the crossbar before bouncing back out to Rooney who taps home into an empty net, but Liverpool players had already stopped playing. Why? Because it didn't hit the bar at all, but rather the stanchion behind the goal. Correct decision in the end.
    • 63' Here comes Lucas, Ibe and Can all come on. Allen off, along with Gerrard and Lambert.
    • 59' Time for a Liverpool change. Lucas is prepped and ready to come on.
    • 58' Well, what a turnaround! This game has been turned on its head in a matter of minutes. (No pun intended.)
    • 57' GOAL! Mata makes it two in as many minutes! Mata lets fly from the edge of the box, it takes a bit of a deflection off Sakho and the ball flies into the back of the net!
    • 56' That's exactly the response Van Gaal will have been looking for after he gave the captain's armband to Rooney. Super stuff.
    • 55' GOAL! It's Wayne Rooney! What a finish from the captain! He sidefoots past Mignolet on the volley from Hernandez's deep cross. So much room for error with that chance, but he got it absolutely spot on!
    • 52' And then Shaw becomes the first player to go into the book tonight, for illegally breaking up a promising break.
    • 51' Luke Shaw shows a good turn of pace for a big man before he plays it out to Rooney on the left and he crosses in. Hernandez can't get there though.
    • 50' Oooh! Sterling so close to adding another for Liverpool! Coutinho finds him with a lovely pass and he cuts inside before letting fly. Deflected just wide of the post by Smalling's heel with De Gea rooted to the spot!
    • 48' Gerrard finds Lambert, but the former Southampton man can't get any power behind his shot, which is easily gathered by De Gea.
    • 47' Hernandez sees his cross blocked and to be honest, the Mexican has done little this match to impress Van Gaal or any potential suitors.
    • 46' Tyler Blackett has been brought on by United, to replace Jonny Evans. Cleverley on for Fletcher too.
    • 46' Right, back under way at Sun Life Stadium. Changes have been made...
    • - Jonny Evans on one the many occasions he was done by Raheem Sterling during the first half.

    • 45' Bang on 45 minutes, the ref blows up and that's your lot for the first half. Liverpool take in a 1-0 lead at the break, thanks to Steven Gerrard's 14th minute penalty.
    • 43' The game's really trailed off with half-time approaching. A far cry from the blistering pace of the opening skirmishes.
    • 43' Sterling tries his luck from distance, but it's a comfortable save for De Gea to make.
    • 41' The entire upper tier of the stadium is empty. Can't quite comprehend why. Is there a reason, other than lack of interest? If not, David Beckham's barking up the wrong tree if he thinks Miami is a 'soccer-mad' city.
    • 40' Absolutely brilliant from Coutinho, as he beats three United players in midfield. Such a skilful player.
    • 38' It's been a decent game so far, but there's just a lull in play at the moment.
    • 36' United are quite happy now to slow the pace down and play the ball around the back for a bit.
    • 35' United break quickly from a huge De Gea punch and Mata wins a free-kick off Gerrard, who's keeping the ref busy tonight.
    • 34' Replays show there to have been definite contact between Herrera and Sterling, and I can't see how that can't be a penalty.
    • 33' Sterling is told to get back up after what at first appeared to be a stonewall penalty! Will be interesting to see that one again. That was awful defending by United, mostly by Evans and Smalling, and then by Herrera to upend Sterling.
    • 31' He certainly looks 'solid'. Not easily pushed off the ball.
    • 30' Half an hour gone, and Liverpool lead through Steven Gerrard's penalty. Otherwise, it's fairly even.
    • 29' Mata this time swings it in... it briefly causes confusion in he Liverpool box, but when Fletcher's attempted backheel doesn't come off, Liverpool are able to clear.
    • 28' Gerrard gives away another free-kick, this time for a trip on Young. Another chance now for United to get a ball into the box.
    • 27' Rooney's over it... but he hits it straight into the wall. About as dangerous as a blunt knife.
    • 26' Here come United, and Rooney tumbles under the challenge of Gerrard rather easily. Free-kick to United. This could spell danger.
    • 24' Oooh! What an effort by Coutinho! He jinks past Evans before blasting a low effort that De Gea does well to get down to and beat away for a corner.
    • 22' Mata gets into some space out on the United left, but he balloons his cross way over everyone's head.
    • 21' This is how Gerrard put Liverpool one up.
    • 20' Young whips in another dangerous ball. But there's no one there in a United shirt to get on the end of it. He's having a decent game, the newly converted wing-back.
    • 19' Mata lets fly from distance now, but it's blocked before it can trouble Mignolet in goal for Liverpool.
    • 18' Sakho lets the ball go over his head, allowing Mata in for a moment. But Skrtel is there to block the Spaniard's path to goal and the danger is snuffed out.
    • 17' Shaw looks to play a one-two with Herrera. It doesn't come off, but United win a throw nevertheless.
    • 16' This is a familiar feeling of late for both sides - Liverpool ahead once more.
    • 14' GOAL! Gerrard sends De Gea the wrong way with a beautiful penalty and Liverpool lead 1-0!
    • 13' Penalty to Liverpool! Jones slides in on Sterling in the box and the ref has no choice but to point to the spot!
    • 10' There's quite a few empty seats to be seen in Miami. You would have throught this game would be a sell-out.
    • 10' Not sure what happened to Valencia, but it's clear he's injured. Not the best of ways to spend your birthday (Valencia is 29 today).
    • 9' Gerrard dinks the free-kick into the box, where Hernandez only succeeds in diverting the ball onto the head of Henderson, but his effort goes over the bar. Half chance for Liverpool, there.
    • 9' This is interesting. Luke Shaw is brought on after just nine minutes of play. And that signals the end of Valencia's night - he looks dejected and possibly in some pain as he walks off.
    • 8' Sterling takes the ball now and hares off on a dangerous forward run. He cuts infield before Herrera eventually upends him and Liverpool have a free-kick.
    • 7' Liverpool had enjoyed the better of the opening stages, but that was by far the best chance so far tonight.
    • 6' Real chance for United! Young whips in a trademark cross towards the far post where Hernandez, on the stretch, can only direct the ball away from goal. Mata nearly gets there but the ball's cleared before he can.
    • 5' Evans hits the deck under pressure from Lambert and the American referee awards United a free-kick. Cue obligatory shot of Van Gaal and Ryan Giggs on the bench - the first of many no doubt tonight.
    • 4' The smoke is just beginning to clear now, and we can get our first proper look at the players out there.
    • 3' Gerrard takes it, but it's easily cleared at the near post by a red shirt.
    • 2 Lambert, back at home in Liverpool since his early summer move from Southampton, wins the first corner of the game.
    • 2' Sterling and Valencia enjoy their first tussle of the night. No malice, all above board.
    • 1' And we're off!
    • - Nearly there now. The commentator's just made a good point - both Raheem Sterling and Antonio Valencia were sent off when Ecuador met England in the same stadium in a World Cup warm-up... sparks could fly.
    • - Wow, the Americans love a bit of pomp and ceremony don't they? Fireworks light up the stadium moments before the teams head out. It's a wonder they can see where they're going - there's smoke everywhere!
    • - The TV cameras are focusing on Rooney in the tunnel. The United striker looks the picture of steely focus. This is a big game for him - he has the chance to further impress Van Gaal, but this time as a captain.
    • - About 10 minutes to kick-off now and the excitement is rising. This may be a friendly in name, but any meeting between these two sides is usually anything but.

    • - Darren Fletcher was rather less bombastic in his assessment pre-match, but the message was nevertheless the same. “I know it’s only pre-season and it’s just a summer competition, but when United play Liverpool, it is always a big deal."
    • - "It’s more than football. It’s life. It is two cities, not very far apart, but historically they have always been huge rivals. It’s arguably the biggest game in the world," said Brendan Rodgers, which sums this game up rather well.
    • - Rooney is given the nod as skipper for the first time under Louis van Gaal, who has preferred Darren Fletcher (three times) and Tom Cleverley (once) to the England striker so far on the tour of the US. Interestingly, Fletcher is in the line-up today. What can we read into that decision, with the opening Premier League match of the season against Swansea fast approaching (and Robin van Persie out injured)?
    • - It's the final of the International Champions Cup, and up for grabs is possibly more than the tin pot of offer - an early marker ahead of the Premier League season, plus bragging rights of sorts, is the prize for the winner.
