Sunday August 12, 2012 August Finished RheinEnergieStadion

    Time:90'
    • 1. FC Köln
    • Arsenal
    • 90' Again we finish the half 30 seconds short but that's a wrap. Podolski sticks two past his former club in between Vermaelen's opener and Gervinho's excellent solo finish as Arsenal run out 4-0 winners in their final pre-season exercise. Thanks for joining me today, you can follow me on Twitter @liamhappe
    • 89' Now Przybylko breaks forward and gets a shot in himself but under pressure, can not beat Szczesny.
    • 88' Gervinho really, really should have two! Great work by Arshavin to get between two defenders before cleverly slipping it square to Gervinho for a one-on-one, but the forward takes a needless touch and loses his way allowing Cologne to recover.
    • 87' Another attack down the right by Arsenal is snuffed out for a deep throw-in.
    • 85' Bit late but Gnabry has been replaced by Chamakh.
    • 84' Home fans beginning to filter out of the stadium now.
    • 83' Offside flag up against Arshavin.
    • 82' Neat one-touch passing that will have most Arsenal fans shedding a nostalgic tear is finally stopped by skipper Pezzoni, who is then fouled by Song as he tries to break.
    • 80' Stefan Thelen embarks on his own impressive journey to the penalty area and it takes three defenders to cut out the threat.
    • 79' Cologne attempt to work an attacking throw from the right but are forced back into their own half by Arsenal.
    • 77' Djourou rises highest, but I doubt a human being alive could rise high enough to head that one at goal.
    • 76' Another mazy Gervinho navigation down the left is this time good for nothing but a corner.
    • 75' Corner comes to nothing but good possession here from Arsenal.
    • 73' Gnabry wins his side a corner after good work on the right.
    • 71' As with most pre-season games which feature a host of changes, the game is slowing down in these latter stages as the flow of the play gets constantly disrupted.
    • 69' Podolski makes way for Mr. Controversy, Robin van Persie.
    • 68' Gnabry bombs down the wing but fails to spot the cut-back to Podolski. It falls to the German anyway, but his shot is blocked.
    • 67' Header is blocked at the near post and Arsenal clear the danger.
    • 66' Now the home side have a corner which Lehmann will take.
    • 65' Djourou heads clear a dangerous-looking cross from the right.
    • 64' Koscielny gets away with a blatant shirt pull on another half-time sub, Chong Tese.
    • 63' One-two with Podolski and he's off down the left before cutting inside and finding an opening just inside the near post. That was the Gervinho that tore Ligue 1 apart with Lille.
    • 62' GOAL! Gervinho makes it four!
    • 61' Schnellhardt makes way for Dino Bisanovic for the hosts.
    • 60' It is Arshavin, not Chamakh, by the way.
    • 59' Gervinho dances through the Cologne defence but his low centre is intercepted.
    • 58' And now Lehmann has a chance! Hits the upright!
    • 57' A cross from half-time sub Mathias Lehmann is caught by Szczesny.
    • 56' Arsenal struggle to get a dangerous spell clear, but eventually do.
    • 54' Now Gervinho has a crack closed down. Good start to the half.
    • 53' Arsenal continue to attack fluidly and Jenkinson's low cross is held by Schuhen.
    • 52' Podolski denied the treble by a vital slide in by Hector at the expense of a corner.
    • 50' Good Jenkinson cross is put behind for a corner which comes to nothing.
    • 48' Arsenal for the second half: Szczesny, Diaby, Koscielny, Santos, Song, Djourou, Jenkinson, Gervinho, Arshavin, Podolski, Gnabry. If there are any mistakes there, we will let you know asap. Looks like Van Persie and Arshavin remain the only unused subs so far.
    • 47' Cologne have also made changes, most notable for now is that goalkeeper Horn - who denied Giroud on a number of occasions - makes way for Marcel Schuhen.
    • 46' We're underway anyway.
    • - Just trying to get a grasp of the changes at half-time. Podolski is back out for the second half, and I see Djourou and Song will be performing in the second period.
    • 45' Half-time is called at 44:30. Never mind, it's only a friendly. Arsenal lead by three goals to nil through Thomas Vermaelen's early header from a corner and a Lukas Podolski brace, the first from the spot and the second a fine piece of work by the German from start to finish.
    • 44' Excellent lofted diagonal out to Gibbs on the left from midfield before striding into the box to meet the cut-back and hammer in his brace.
    • 43' GOAL! 3-0 and it's Podolski at the double!
    • 41' Deep cross in from the right is met at the far post by Giroud, but he's leaning on his marker. Free kick.
    • 40' Superb move down the left from Walcott now but he's ultimately forced to pull back to keep possession.
    • 39' Walcott has sight of goal straight back up the other end, but that's no problem for Horn.
    • 38' Real purple patch for Cologne here. Hector has an effort blocked by Mertesacker before a second crack of the whip goes wide of the far post.
    • 37' Treatment for Oxlade-Chamberlain before the ensuing corner. Doesn't appear to be anything serious.
    • 36' Royer! Superb drive, well tipped over by Mannone!
    • 35' Game still being bossed by Arsenal, but Cologne are proving dangerous on the break.
    • 34' The Gooner back line fails to clear a threat, allowing Przybylko to drive a 20-yarder straight into the arms of Mannone.
    • 33' Delightful floated delivery by Cazorla and Giroud's header has to be tipped over by Horn!
    • 32' Arsenal win another corner.
    • 30' Strobl trips Walcott. The visitors have a free-kick around 35 yards out.
    • 29' Chamberlain denied by the offside flag.
    • 28' Arsenal now successfully slowing down the tempo with some simple short passes. A welcome sight when the Gunners are leading, some fans would argue there hasn't been enough of it in recent years.
    • 26' So 2-0 Arsenal thus far in what has been a very entertaining and open exhibition. Vermaelen from a corner and Podolski from the penalty spot in the first 15 minutes.
    • 25' The Frenchman will grow a little frustrated if this continues but in fairness this is great goalkeeping.
    • 24' Chamberlain plays Giroud through with a great diagonal pass! Another top drawer stop by Horn!
    • 23' Ishak! Brings the ball forward 10 yards before trickling a shot narrowly wide of the far post.
    • 22' Now Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain combine and it's good. The latter is in space on the right to fire in a low cross to Giroud! Great point blank parry by Horn!
    • 21' Good link-up play between Jajalo and Hector leads to the offside flag.
    • 20' Good spell from Cologne in the last few minutes and Arsenal are beginning to back off.
    • 19' Great solo run by Przybylko through three defenders! Shoots just wide!
    • 18' Half-cleared corner falls to Ishak, but he puts the attempt wide. Goal kick.
    • 17' The hosts now have an effort put behind for a corner.
    • 16' Alex Song, linked with Barcelona, IS in the line-up and should feature in the second half. I am told that RVP is in fact among the subs after all, ignore the previous assertion.
    • 15' Podolski to step up against his former club... 2-0!
    • 14' Corner coming up... Chamberlain on the ball and he's felled by Wimmer! Penalty Arsenal!
    • 13' Walcott lofts a cross in towards Giroud, who heads it down into the path of CAZORLA! Great stop by Horn!
    • 12' Arsenal win an attacking throw on the left but soon trigger the offside flag.
    • 11' Podolski and Giroud up top for Arsenal with wide attacking support from Walcott and the Ox. Santi in midfield.
    • 9' Low Walcott cross from the right is collected by Horn.
    • 8' Just had a glance at the planned side for the second half and Robin van Persie is NOT among them. Full listing to come at half-time.
    • 7' GOAL! Vermaelen nods home the flag kick!
    • 6' Chance for Arsenal! Coquelin slips Giroud through, and he forces a corner from Horn!
    • 5' TEAMS - Cologne: Horn, Kubler, Pezzoni, Hector, Strobl, Ishak, Jajalo, Przybylko, Royer, Wimmer, Schnellhardt. Arsenal: Mannone, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Podolski, Girous, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Coquelin, Gibbs, Cazorla, Yennaris.
    • 1' We are underway. Teams to come but it appears that Arsenal will field a side in each half.
    • 16:00 Good afternoon and welcome to live coverage of Arsenal's final pre-season friendly against German outfit Cologne.
