    • - Well what did you think of that then? A huge win, confidence wise, and it begs the questions a. is Rooney that important to England? and b. John Terry - why? Have your say on Twitter @Reda_Maher
    • 90+3 Villa has a pop that Rodwell takes in the face AND THAT IS IT! England have beaten Spain! Yes it's a friendly but a famous win and a confidence booster ahead of the Euros. Wayne who? John what?
    • 90+2 England are closing in on a famous win - but Spain are putting everyone forward! Tense finish...
    • 90+1 Three minutes added time. England have everyone bar Welbeck back.
    • 90' WIDE BY FABREGAS! SHOULD HAVE SCORED! England for once carved open, Villa with a super low ball after getting the better of Johnson but he stroked it wide!
    • 89' Great touch from Torres on the right he plays it back to Fabregas and his shot is deflected off Jags but good save Hart!
    • 89' Spain are looking a tiny bit desperate and England can break - Welbeck to Johnson, who goes down but Downing has it, he crosses but out for a goal kick.
    • 88' England should not get ahead of themselves if they win this - nine times out of 10, parking the bus does not get you a win against Spain. However it does show they can concentrate, and take on the best by playing a spoiling game.
    • 87' Arbeloa puts in a cross, deflected and into Hart's arms.
    • 86' England counter from the corner and they swarm all over Spain! They could be in with Adam Johnson on the left but Walker can't get on to it. Shame.
    • 85' ENGLAND SUB: Walker on for Parker.
    • - @tony_mabert: "Torres gets more boos as he comes on than Busquets does as he goes off. Que?" Follow Tony@Wembley
    • - @tomEurosport: "Cries of 'ole' are heard from the England fans, before Jagielka lumps it 50 yards to no one to kill that chant dead." Follow Tom@Wembley
    • 84' Arbeloa on the right wing, inside to Cesc but he dives over Barry's challenge. Get up. Now Cazorla, wide to Arbeloa but a poor cross.
    • 83' Cesc has a pop but well wide. That is a terrible haricut by the way, he looks like Benny Del Toro's mini-me.
    • 82' Fabregas skins Cole and he's in! England all over the place and the low ball for Pique but Parker comes from nowhere, flying in to block! What a challenge!!
    • 81' Villa releases Mata, he's in on the right but Jagielka hurls himself at the ball to hook a leg around and clear.
    • 80' All hands to the pump now as Adam Johnson covers at full back to clear.
    • - Some of you may not have understood my joke about England being "unofficial world champions" - it's a gag that goes back many decades: if a team beats the world champs, they are unofficial world champs. Google it - Scotland had that title once.
    • 79' England have everyone behind the ball. Echoes of Switzerland at the World Cup. Great cross by Torres now but Jags flicks it away and Johnson clips it clear. Welbeck almost able to counter but he can't find Downing.
    • 78' Alonso high in for Torres, he flicks it on AND MATA but blocked behind for a throw.
    • 77' Alba gets in on a super Villa backheel but who blocks his low ball across - yup, Lescott.
    • 76' ENGLAND SUB: Milner, who has been superb second only to Lescott, comes off for another City man, Adam Johnson. City!
    • 75' Lescott has been so good today, intercepting Cazorla's pass to Mata. Cazorla came on for Iniesta just now.
    • 74' England break through Welbeck but he can't beat Alba. Gets a bit scrappy now as Villa fouls Rodwell.
    • 73' VILLA HITS THE POST! Poor defensive header from Johnson drops to Villa who takes it on the chest and his volley beats Hart but hits wood! Fine effort.
    • 72' Parker goes down holding his knee. Spain come forward, Torres on the ball, Alba now, short and patient and England are back. Parker is okay.
    • 71' England's youngsters are showing no fear as they chase down Spain, Rodwell and Welbeck again combining. And England have a good spell with the ball but, as soon as it goes back to a defender, the fans whistle. No!
    • - @tomEurosport: "Typical Spain: resorting to strong-arm tactics to try and put a superior England off their stride. Thugs!" - typical English, resorting to irony to try etc etc. Follow Tom@Wembley on Twitter!
    • 70' England are happy to sit deep and look for the long ones now. Spain looking for more subs...
    • 69' Spain are - dare I say it - toiling right now. England for unofficial world champions? I am speaking too soon I know...
    • 68' By the way it turns out that ALL the England players had the poppy armbands, but because the velcro is a bit poo they fell off some arms. But it wasn't an issue as they have them on their boots too. So there you go. Poppies! They do fall off though - I lose mine all the time.
    • 67' Brilliant from Lescott, who hooks the ball away from Villa as he was about to move in.
    • 66' ALMOST A SECOND! Rodwell was played in by Welbeck after a one-two and a slightly heavy touch allowed Alba to slide in and Reina parried.
    • 65' Cheers from the Eurosport crowd as England string five passes together before Cole lumps it long.
    • 64' SPAIN SUB: Torres comes on now, Busquets off, and the Chelsea man is jeered as he gives the ball away.
    • 64' ENGLAND SUB: Bent comes off for Welbeck.
    • 63' Clumsy from Barry on Villa, free-kick to Spain about 30 yards out. Welbeck preparing to come on for England... I reckon Alonso for this... No, Villa straight into the wall. Parker took it in the face. Good lad.
    • 62' Jagielka getting treatment for the crack on the jon - you get sent off for that in Spain, and even in England. Cesc a very lucky boy.
    • 61' Another booking, Cesc now as he clatters into Jagielka with his arm raised.
    • 60' Great tackle by Rodwell and then Ramos is finally booked for clattering into Bent with two feet. That's a red on a regular day.
    • 59' Rodwell on the left, great skill to beat Ramos but his cross spins out. Almost an opportunity there.
    • 58' Brilliant harrying from Milner to win the ball back but Downing gives it away. Spain get crowded out though and have to start from the back again... Barry brings it clear and surges away, winning a free-kick off Cesc.
    • 57' ENGLAND SUB: Barry and Rodwell - a debut! - on for Lampard and Jones. New legs to harass Spain in midfield.
    • 56' Villa misses a clear-cut chance. Great ball from Iniesta sent him in and he rounded Hart but the City keeper pushed him wide and Jagielka was covering - side netting.
    • 56' Really good challenge by Johnson on Iniesta but he gets up and finds Mata, who is offside.
    • 55' Parker with a good strong challenge but the ref penalises him again. But Lampard heads the free-kick clear.
    • 54' An Iniesta through ball is cut out by Lampard, controlled by Parker and Hart completes the clearance.
    • 53' Mata is dispossessed by Lampard on the edge of the box but England are struggling to clear. Spain get it back....
    • 52' Parker fouls Iniesta as the pair tangle in the middle. I think all England fans would take a draw now...
    • 51' England attack again but the move breaks down this time. Surely Spain can get back in this?
    • - @tony_mabert: "@tomEurosport criticising Fabregas's new haircut in the manner of someone slagging off their ex after seeing them out for first time." - bit of North London rivalry there.
    • 50' Spain win a corner, short and cleared to Alonso, deflected but Hart claims and the flag is up anyway.
    • - That is Lampard's 23rd England goal, and England's 1,999th.
    • 49' Milner will take this himself... really good ball AND BENT WITH A HEADER OFF THE POST AND IT LANDS FOR LAMPARD! Goal Lampard! The England captain with the easiest goal of his life, nodding it over the line!
    • 48' Milner gets away from Arbeloa but is on his own - he does well to draw a foul too.
    • 47' Arbeloa gets inside Cole but Villa thrashes it over.
    • - @tomEurosport: "England bring on Stewart Downing; Spain introduce Fabregas and Mata. Difference." Follow Tom at Wembley on Twitter.
    • 46' The second half is underway.
    • 46' And for England, Downing is on... I think he's taken Walcott off. Hmm.
    • 46' Three changes for Spain: Casillas, Silva and Xavi come off for Reina, Mata and Fabregas. Yikes!!
    • - @thompson_oliver: "Hey if Switzerland can do it... I'm going for an ugly, bundled-in goal on the counter that wrong-foots Casillas, 1-0 england" Have your say on Twitter.
    • - I've answered the poppy question but some of you seem to have ignored it - the England players who are not wearing the armband have poppies embroidered on to their boots. How they wear the poppy is their choice, I think it's a nice touch. But obviously some people just want to have a go...
    • - What do you think of that half then? Boring, or smart from England? Will Spain eventually break them down, or can the pace of Walcott snatch something for the hosts? Have your say on Twitter, @Reda_Maher
    • 45+1 Half time and it's goalless - Spain doing all the creative work but England defending very well and occasionally threatening on the break. Hart barely tested so far.
    • 45+1 England again defend well but the counter falls flat. Milner on the left though but he can't unlock the defence with his pass and Spain clear.
    • 45' Walcott takes on Alba and wins a throw. Johnson gets it now, he rampages past Ramos into the box but can't get past Alba.
    • - Some of you are complaining that this is a boring match - against Spain, boring = good.
    • 45' Walcott is again tripped by Ramos on the run but not even a free-kick this time. I think it was a tangle of legs to be fair.
    • 44' I'm not slagging off Spain or Barca, by the way - psychologically referees are more likely to favour more technical teams. An England move breaks down at Bent and Spain can clear.
    • 43' Milner fouls Ramos and he is booked. Not that bad a tackle, Ramos's on Walcott was worse but hey-ho that's what happens against Spain - and Barca.
    • 42' By the way some of you are complaining that some England players are not wearing the black armbands with the poppies on them - that's because some have them on their boots. Click here for evidence.
    • 41' Lampard gives it away but Jones blocks Iniesta's shot. Now Walcott runs away, he skins Alonso and his rattled over by Ramos. Dirty. That is a card in any competitive match.
    • 40' England come forward but again they can't get more than a couple of passes together. Silva is clean through off a long pass but the flag is up. Hart saves the shot anyway.
    • 39' Alba picks it up on the left but Walcott is quicker than him, catching up and robbing him to clear.
    • 38' Milner fouls Busquets. Well, as you'd expect, there was minimal contact if any but that fella needs no encouragement. Spain keep it short, again no surprises....
    • 37' Alonso curls one in and England are caught short but Busquets hooks it over from the penalty spot! Johnson put him off, best chance yet.
    • 36' Spain are squeezing England now as they dominate possession without really moving into the final third. I make this two minutes with the ball before Iniesta's low shot is blocked by Lescott. Corner.
    • 35' Cole overcommits in the tackle and Iniesta could be in but Lescott does well again to sweep up the danger.
    • 34' Lampard wins it in midfield but Alonso fouls Bent and England have a free-kick. Late from Alonso. Lampard's free-kick finds Jones arriving out wide but his header loops up and into Casillas's arms.
    • 33' Hart looks long for Bent but he can't do anything with it, Pique and Ramos holding him off and no support.
    • 32' The second shot on target sees Silva try in vain to meet his City colleague Joe Hart at the near post.
    • 32' Walcott wide to Jones as England break but he has no support that is available and he gives it back to Lampard. He shoots from range and Casillas parries before holding on. That is possibly the first shot on target.
    • 31' Walcott races away but a good covering challenge by Alba to hook it away and to a team-mate too.
    • 30' Bent on the left is closed down and then Pique flicks it up before hooking the ball clear. Show off. Parker deemed to have fouled Busquets, harshly in my view.
    • 29' Long from Busquets, Iniesta is onside but Hart gets there first. Milner on the left now but Cole slips... he gets it back though and England keep the ball.
    • 28' Milner almost robs Busquets but a lucky break for him, however Arbeloa is offside on the overlap - again close.
    • 27' A long andf fairly aimless ball from so far deep I'm not sure if it was Cole or a centre-back. Passing aside, England have done everything else well. Defending and pressing is very good so far.
    • 26' Parker takes it off Busquets but a terrible pass straight to Pique. Iniesta to Silva but offside. Looked level to me!
    • 25' High foot from Jones, taken short to Xavi who strolls forward and looks for Iniesta deep. Arbeloa on the right but a stray pass all the way back to Ramos....
    • 24' Spain trying to work an opening as Xavi looks wide to Arbeloa. Now Villa wide left, Alba on the overlap but the cut-back is beyond the arriving Silva and England clear.
    • 23' Iniesta and Silva exchange passes, now Xavi finds Villa but his curling shot hits a defender.
    • 23' Parker slides in well on Xavi and England can bring it away. Cole swings it high for Bent, who goes down but no foul from Ramos says the ref. I thought it was.
    • 22' Poor clearance from Casillas straight to Bent but his first touch is not the best and Pique nicks it away from him. Lucky escape.
    • 21' England hold on to possession before Hart lofts it long.
    • 20' Busquets is rolling about holding his ankle like he so often does. The ref isn't buying it - he fouled Jones anyway so giving Spain the free-kick is more than enough.
    • 19' Busquets is fouled in his own half. Fortunate as he was dithering a touch under pressure. Walcott slips but gets up in one movement and comes away with the ball.
    • 18' England have numbers back and are looking for the break but only sometimes finding it. Iniesta threads Silva in but Lescott knows his team-mate from City and closes it down, letting the ball run for a corner.
    • 17' Spain are being pegged back a bit now as Xavi is closed down by three players to concede a throw.
    • 16' Good stuff from England here as they pass it across the box but Ramos blocks the Jones cross. Foul from Theo on Alba.
    • 15' Villa's attempted through ball goes straight to Johnson, who brings it clear. Now England break as Jones comes forward, but Bent strays offside. Gah.
    • - @tony_mabert: "Is Milner England's best creative source? He's got five league assists this season so far. Silva has most with seven, naturally." Have your say!
    • 14' England are defending deep, as you'd expect, and they snuff out Barca I mean Spain's latest short-passing move.
    • 13' Xavi puts it in but Bent heads clear. While Puyol, Alonso and Busquets are tall enough, England will be disappointed if they are beaten in the air tonight.
    • 12' Villa gets in again but Jagielka and Johnson close him down and block the finish for a corner.
    • 12' Lovely control from Villa but Lampard crunches into Alonso - previous with those too. Clean tackle this time though.
    • 11' Terrible corner from Lampard though, way too deep and Ramos clears.
    • 10' Walcott one-on-one with Alba, he finds Johnson on the overlap and his low cross is blocked by Alba for a corner.
    • 9' Alba - the left-back - nutmegs Glen Johnson. Cheeky little so-and-so. Alonso to Villa, who fails to find Iniesta. Hart claims.
    • 8' Jones almost releases Milner down the left but Arbeloa gets there first. Throw deep in the Spain half.
    • 7' Iniesta almost slides Villa in but Lescott's long leg blocks it and England can break... but they look long but a bit too long for Theo Walcott.
    • 7' England back in possession now but they're keeping it in their own half. Spain win it back and they too sit deep.
    • 6' Silva tries to find Villa, blocked by Lescott but drops back to Silva, whose volley hits Johnson in the face.
    • 5' Lampard brings it clear but the pass aimed for Theo is long by Jones.
    • 4' Lots of sliding tackles from Cole, Parker and co. Bent pressing high up the pitch. Iniesta to Arbeloa but his low ball is blocked.
    • 3' Lescott blocks Silva's ball in for Iniesta. But England give it away.
    • 2' Jones robs Xavi, England retain the ball. Parker keeps it simple. England pressing early on. Softly softly, catchee monkey...
    • 1' Spain give it away, Cole finds Milner and a great cross in but Ramos heads clear.
    • - @Tony_Mabert: "After all the fuss about poppies this week, it was two English voices that ruined the minute silence at Wembley. Well done." Follow Tony on Twitter.
    • 1' The first half is underway. Roar.
    • 17:14 We have a minute's silence accompanies by banners, signs and other tokens of respect to the war dead.

    • 17:12 ... and on bass, we have Tom Adams... @tomEurosport
    • 17:11 We have a gang of 'heavies' at Wembley today, all of whom you can molest on Twitter. First up we have Tony Mabert on drums... @tony_mabert
    • 17:10 Right, I'm Reda Maher and I will provide live commentary of this game from now on. Thanks to my nameless colleague (a robot, no less) for its help in the build-up. That is my way of dissociating from anything said previously. I still think England will lose though - simply because Spain have a full-strength XI out with Fabregas, Mata, Torres and Puyol on the bench, while we start with a teenage defender in centre midfield and a Championship keeper on the bench. Gulp.
    • 17:05 There are photos starting to filter into our feed from Wembley. Poppy-heavy photos.
    • 17:00 Spain boss Vicente del Bosque says England are way too modest these days.
    • 16:55 Jim White reckons England should stop trying to emulate Spain and focus on our own strengths (not that we'll win today).

Subs: Carson, Stockdale, Johnson, Cahill, Walker, Baines, Barry, A Johnson, Downing, Rodwell, Sturridge, Zamora... SPAIN: Casillas, Arbeloa, Ramos, Pique, Alba, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Alonso, Villa, Silva... Subs: Reina, Valdes, Puyol, Albiol, Monreal, Cazorla, Fabregas, Mata, Navas, Torres, Llorente.
    • 16:45 Rafa Benitez has done a nice tactical analysis of how Spain are going to maim England today.
    • 16:40 Former England caretaker boss Howard Wilkinson has told us he does not think Spain are unbeatable.
    • 16:35 Our blogger Paul Parker does not give England much of a chance today - he reckons Spain are way out of our league.
    • 16:30 One of the lesser-known players in the Spain team is Jordi Alba - but never fear! The Valencia man is the subject of our latest Euroscout profile. Euroscout: Jordi Alba
    • 16:25 By the way, Yikes is an exclamation, not the next starlet off the La Masia production line...
    • 16:20 SPAIN XI now confirmed: Casillas, Arbeloa, Ramos, Pique, Alba, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Alonso, Silva, Villa. Yikes.
    • 16:15 Well, it's hard not to look at that England side and burst out laughing at how completely outclassed it appears.
    • 16:10 ENGLAND TEAM: Hart, G Johnson, Jagielka, Lescott, Cole, Walcott, Jones, Parker, Lampard, Milner, Bent.
    • - Welcome to LIVE coverage of England versus Spain from Wembley! It has been a traumatic week one way or another, but here we are - poppied armbands at the ready - and it promises to be a superb contest.
