    • 45+3' FULL TIME - The final whistle blows to the delight of the home crowd as Italy scrape a win against the world champions.
    • 45+2' Balotelli turns inside and in a one-on-one can't beat Valdez as he smothers the attempted shot.
    • 45+1' Silva almost prods in what would have been a truly brilliant equaliser. A flowing move finds the little Spaniard and his first touch is unbelievable as he brings it under his spell and beats a player at the same time.
    • 90' Pirlo makes his way to the byline and puts in a cross that no one can finish off.
    • 89' Balotelli again turns inside Busquets, but the defender blocks the shot for a corner kick.
    • 88' A lovely Spain move ends with Villa hitting a half-volley JUST wide of the far post.
    • 87' Busquets cynically brings down Balotelli as the Italian turns the Spaniard.
    • 86' Villa again hits high and wide as Spain look to get back on terms with time swiftly running out.
    • 84' GOAL! Italy 2-1 Spain - Aquilani hits a first time shot that looks to be going wide until it hits the ankles of a Spain defender and wrongfoots Valdez as it dribbles into the net.
    • 83' Pirlo whips in the free kick towards the top left corner. Valdez gets there, but takes no chances as he palms it out.
    • 82' Spain almost pass themselves into trouble at the back and in fact give away a free kick about 25 yards out...
    • 81' Silva gets to the byline and pulls the ball back for Mata. The ball pops up and he pulls off an acrobatic shot which cannons into Llorente who is on the floor. Buffon would not have got there...
    • 80' Substitution: Juan Mata comes on for Cazorla.
    • 79' Balotelli is surrounded by three Spain shirts as soon as he gets the ball and is crowded out.
    • 78' Villa plays in Silva who unleashes a left footed drive that Buffon does well to get down to.
    • 77' Substitution: Leonardo Bonucci comes on for Ranocchia.
    • 76' The referee plays a series of advantages for Italy as they break down the left, but the cross hits the first man and the move fizzles out.
    • 75' Substitution: Antonio Nocerino comes on for the goalscorer Montelivo.
    • 74' Silva puts in a teasing cross that Criscito heads off the toe of Llorente. He gets the foul after that tremendous bit of defending.
    • 72' Balotelli is staying pretty wide on the left touchline. Mancini tends to favour a similar wide position for the Italian at City, though he seems much more effective down the middle.
    • 69' Balotelli is forced to the gfround and he doesn't look happy. You worry what will happen everytime you see him unhappy, which is quite a lot of the time.
    • 68' Balotelli steps inside the Spanish defender, but completely fails to trouble Valdez with a curling effort that drifts well wide.
    • 66' Llorente falls to the floor like he's been shot. He hasn't been shot, but he has been caught by a Chiellini elbow in the back of the head, which he gets a yellow card for.
    • 65' Substitution: Alberto Aquilani comes on for De Rossi.
    • 63' Villa slices another shot horribly wide. He's failed to make any sort of impact so far in this game.
    • 62' Llorente scuffs a shot with his left foot when presented with an oh so easy opportunity. The ball deflects off an Italy shirt and Buffon just about scrambles it away.
    • 60' Substitution: Cassano is off for Balotelli and Rossi is replaced by Giampaolo Pazzini.
    • 58' Cassano fires a shot into Valdez from a tight angle, David Villa's shot is a lot worse as it sails wide from 25 yards.
    • 57' Cazorla slices horribly wide as Mario Balotelli prepares to enter the fray. This is about to get even more interesting.
    • - For Italy Motta has been replaced by Claudio Marchisio.
    • - Iraola and Iniesta have also come off for Thiago and David Villa.
    • - Victor Valdez came on at halftime for Iker Casillas.
    • 51' Rossi outruns and out tricks Busquets as he backheels a pass to Cassano, who's attempted pass across the box is intercepted.
    • 50' Arbeloa attempts to lob Buffon from about 40 yards out that isn't too far away.
    • 48' Montelivo fouls Alonso as he raps him around the ankles. Brilliant touch from Rossi to bring a ball under control from out of the sky, but he undoes his good work as he runs it out for a throw-in.
    • 46' Italy kick off the second half and like the first half immediately win a freekick in the Spanish half.
    • 45+2' It's half time in what has so far been an entertaining game. Italy shade it in terms of chances created but they go in all square nonetheless.
    • 45+1' Cassano heads just wide as he gets above Busquets at the backpost.
    • 44' Llorente watefully puts over the bar when in a good position to put in a team mate. Pique goes down injured and no chances are taken as Busquets enters the fray in his place.
    • 42' Iniesta dances into the area and gets to the byline. He loops a cross across the face of goal, but there's no Spanish player there to put it away.
    • 41' Cassano is toying with Cassano and Italy almost create another opening, but a stepover too many and the ball is intercepted.
    • 39' Brilliant save from Casillas as Cassano hits hard and low from about 12 yards, but it's turned around the post by the goalkeeper's foot.
    • 37' GOAL! Italy 1-1 Spain - Alonso buries the penalty as he hits straight down the middle as Buffon dives to his left.
    • 36' Cazorla whips in a lovely cross from the left and Chiellini is deemed to have pulled back Llorente and it's a penalty!
    • 35' Martinez is lying on the floor claiming to be hurt, but promptly gets up when the ref shows no interest.
    • 33' Iraola slashes a shot wildly into the stands and Cazorla follows suit when teed up expertly by Iniesta.
    • 32' If he'd have pulled the ball back Cassano could have put in to a virtually open goal.
    • 31' Spain are pressing high up the pitch now, but Italy break in behind and Rossi has a fantastic chance to put them further ahead. Casillas with the sprawling save in the one-on-one though.
    • 28' Chiellini heads a cross on dangerously in his own box, but gets away with it. He does much better as Martinez makes his way into the box to concede the corner.
    • 26' Spain are content to keep the ball in the middle of the park at the moment.
    • 25' Albiol with his studs up there on Rossi, but the referee fails to act. Iniesta sprays the ball out to Iraola, but Spain being Spain they fail to put the ball in the box.
    • 24' Alonso can't stay on his feet; he just about wins that challenge though as Spain win some respite through possession.
    • 21' Italy keep on threatening to get in behind Spain as they play their usual high line. Some scrappy defending from Pique keeps the ball out of the area, but Italy come straight back at them.
    • 19' Cassano clearly dived to try and win a penalty a couple of minutes earlier as Silva fires in a 25 yard shot straight into the arms of Buffon.
    • 17' Spain are lacking the control they usually exert on a match - due in no small part to the absence of Xavi.
    • 16' Torres has picked up an injury early on and Fernando Llorente joins the fray in his place. Not good news for Chelsea fans that.
    • 14' Criscito just about keeps the ball in play and whips in a cross from the left that Arbeloa just manages to head clear.
    • 11' GOAL! Italy 1-0 Spain - Montolivo is played in down the left hand side of the area and he chips a lovely shot over the diving Casillas. It hits the underside of the crossbar and bounces in. That was a very cool finish.
    • 10' Cassano wins a corner as he battles Albiol out by the corner flag. The corner is whipped in, but Spain again deals with it comfortably.
    • 9' Pirlo's playing deep and has taken control of the game. It's a shame Xavi's not playing, in what would have been a battle of two of the great passers in the game.
    • 8' Spain start to get into that mesmeric passing, but Arbeloa's lack of pace is shown as he is beaten to an Iniesta pass over the top.
    • 6' Cassano is causing all sorts of problems and should perhaps have won the freekick as he again drifts past Alonso.
    • 4' Cassano with a lovely flick that starts a lovely move that ends with De Rossi striking the post from 25 yards. Breathtaking stuff from the Italians there.
    • 3' Iniesta sprays the ball out to Silva, who curls a ball into the box, but it drifts out for a throw in to Italy.
    • 2' Xabi Alonso immediately commits a foul about 30 yards from his own goal, but the Italian free kick comes to nothing.
    • 1' Referee Felix Brych gets the game underway as Italy kick play from left to right and Spain kick off.
    • 19:40 Last minute change to the Spanish team: Fernando Torres is coming in for David Villa, which presumably is sue to an injury picked up in the warm-up.
    • 19:35 Balotelli will start on the bench for Italy, with coach Cesare Prandelli telling the Manchester City player that he must "grow up".
    • 19:30 The teams are in - Italy: Buffon, Maggio, Ranocchia, Chiellini, Criscito, Motta, Pirlo, De Rossi, Montolivo, Rossi, Cassano///Spain: Casillas, Iraola, Pique, Albiol, Arbeloa, Busquets, Alonso, Santi Cazorla, Iniesta, Pedro, Villa.
    • 19:25 Spain have the record for most consecutive wins by an international team (15), most consecutive games undefeated (35) and the record amount of points achieved in a World Cup qualification campaign (30 out of 30). These records have all come in the last three years as well. It just goes to show how dominant they are at the minute.
    • 19:17 Before that defeat to Ireland, Italy went nine games without losing. Spain have an imperious record of four defeats in their last 66 games!
    • 19:12 A match between the two last World Cup winners must be a pretty rare occurrence. Spain pretty much have a clean bill of health with Italy only missing the injured Mattia Cassani.
    • 19:05 Italy suffered a mildly embarrassing 2-0 defeat to the Republic of Ireland in their last match; Spain ran out comfortable 3-0 winners against Venezuela and haven't lost a match since Portugal hammered them during their post World Cup hangover.
    • 19:00 The match is kicking off in 45 minutes at the Stadio Comunale San Nicola in Bari. Spain are marginal favourites, but you imagine this will be a tight affair.
    • 17:45 Welcome to our LIVE coverage of Italy's friendly against Spain - we'll be here with all the build-up from around 7pm BST.
