    • Thanks for joining us. As expected, Spain win, but the Irish can be proud of the improvement showed since their last meeting with the world and European champions.
    • 90'+3 There goes the final whistle! Entertaining stuff at Yankee Stadium! It ends 2-0 to Spain, but there is no disgrace for the Irish, who more than played their part in this one!
    • 90' Again, that's a shame for the Irish, who came so close to levelling things up. Replays show that Cox was indeed in an offside position and it seems the officials got the decision right.
    • 89' Kelly is replaced by Delaney as the Irish make one more change.
    • 88' GOAL! Juan Mata seals the deal for Spain! Cazorla slides through a pass for the Chelsea man to run on to before slotting past Randolph!
    • 88' The Irish aren't willing to give up on this one just yet...
    • 87' Hull City's David Meyler has come on, replacing McCarthy.
    • 86' Randolph pulls off a flying save to deny Fabregas as Spain look to settle matters.
    • 84' This second half has finally caught alight now! There could be more twists before the end yet!
    • 83' Quinn's current frustration boils over and he's booked for a challenge from behind.
    • 82' GOAL! The Republic are level! From the resulting corner, St Ledger stabs the ball home! NO! IT'S BEEN DISALLOWED! Perhaps it was Cox who was in an offside position amid the melee! Oh dear, what a shame for the Irish!
    • 81' Oooh! McClean bursts through and he forces a brilliant save from Casillas who tips over the bar!
    • 80' Pedro makes way for Santi Cazorla now.
    • 78' Soldado goes close to a second as he runs on to Mata's through pass, but Randolph is out quickly to narrow his angles and the Valencia striker rolls the ball wide!
    • 75' Arbeloa now goes down, and Cox angers the Spanish contingent in the crowd by playing on.
    • 73' Forde and Keogh are taken off as Trap rings more changes. Randolph and McClean on.
    • 72' Yellow card for Cox, for a poor challenge that leaves Busquets writhing around on the floor clutching his ankle. He acknowledges his error, and having seen the replay, you can see why. He could be lucky to still be on the pitch.
    • 71' You can't deny Spain don't deserve their lead. But you also have to feel sorry for Ireland, whose resistance had until that point been impeccable.
    • 70' And Del Bosque uses the opportunity to bring Mata on for Xavi.
    • 69' GOAL! Soldado finally breaks the deadlock! It's a wonderful finish, the Valencia striker swivelling on a sixpence to fire a low volley past Forde! Out of nothing really!
    • 67' Still no goals in New York and so far Spain are being well frustrated by the Irish. They haven't really had a decent chance all this second half.
    • 65' Alba appeals for handball as he sees his cross bounce up off the thigh of McShane and into the Irishman's arm. No penalty says the referee!
    • 64' It's a poor one though and it runs all the way through to the opposite touchline.
    • 63' Busquets wins another corner for Spain now. Pique and Ramos again march forward for it.
    • 61' Forde has to be sharp to first repel a dangerous cross into the box and then to keep out a long-range howitzer from Pedro.
    • 60' Those substitutions give an indication of just how good this Spain squad is. Amazing that they can bring of players of that calibre.
    • 59' So, off go Valdes, Villa and Iniesta, on come Casillas, Soldado and Fabregas.
    • 58' Iniesta drives in a low cross shot but it's dealt with well by the Irish defence.
    • 58' And Spain are about to make some more changes themselves.
    • 57' Here comes another change now: off goes Robbie Keane, to be replaced by Simon Cox.
    • 54' Still goalless - and chancelss so far this half.
    • 51' Here comes Iniesta now, but he gives the ball away cheaply for once. Ireland cannot capitalise though.
    • 50' You can't help get the feeling that a Spanish goal is just around the corner.
    • 48' What have the Irish got this half? They've done well to make it to the break goalless, but let's not forget that they were only one down at half-time in Gdansk.
    • 47' Hendrick has been replaced by Stephen Quinn for the Republic, while Manchester City's Jesus Navas is on for his new club-mate David Silva.
    • 47' As expected, we've had some changes at the break...
    • 46' Here we go again then! Second half under way!
    • 45' There goes the whistle. No stoppage time played at all and it's all square at the break in New York!
    • 44' Vicente Del Bosque is seen on the bench with his head in his hands and a pained expression on his face. They've been frustrated so far.
    • 43' Iniesta now sends one over the bar from the edge of the area.
    • 42' Ireland are living dangerously at the moment as Spain push for an opener before the break.
    • 41' Pedro crashes an effort off the underside of the bar! He fashions the chance for himself with some nifty footwork but the woodwork comes to Ireland's rescue this time! Villa hammers the rebound well over the bar.
    • 39' That was nearly the kiss of death as Forde is called into action to deny the charging Villa! Good stop from the keeper, right at the feet of the Barca man!
    • 37' Still Spain are dominating possession, but credit to Ireland, they're still on level terms and in truth, Forde has had relatively little to do so far.
    • 35' Spain, who kick off their Confederations Cup campaign in Brazil on Sunday against Uruguay, enjoyed a 2-1 win over Haiti in Miami last Saturday.
    • 34' Keane takes an appendage in the head from Sergio Ramos. He goes down, rubbing his head, but he'll be okay.
    • 33' Surely one of these Spain forays forward will result in a goal before too long....
    • 32' Silva for Villa before the ball breaks for Pedro! But he can only slide the ball wide of the mark!
    • 30' Xavi strikes one cleanly from about 25 yards, but it's straight at Forde, who hugs the ball to his chest after catching it.
    • 29' Forde puts McShane under pressure with a poor clearance... the defender does well enough to put the ball out for a Spain throw.
    • 28' What a chance for Ireland. There won't be many more like that tonight. And what a story that would have been!
    • 27' Sammon! Ooh that could, and possibly should, have been the opener! The Irishman picks Pique's pocket as he tries to bring the ball under control before racing clear... he opens up his body, Thierry Henry-style, but sidefoots his effort wide of the post!
    • 26' Iniesta, Xavi and Silva are so silky in possession, it's a joy to watch.
    • 25' Coleman looks to win a corner off Alba as he chases a ball down to the by-line, but the linesman's having none of it.
    • 24' Spain are beginning to look dangerous again now. Ireland's best chances are going to come from set pieces tonight.
    • 23' Pique flies in towards the corner kick, but he can't quite reach the ball... Ramos piles in behind him but after a bit of a scramble, Forde pounces gratefully on the loose ball!
    • 22' Xavi's effort takes a deflection and it will be another Spain corner. Threatening...
    • 21' Alba overlaps on the Spain left but his cross is overhit and Forde watches it sail over his crossbar.
    • 20' Villa cuts back inside McCarthy and lets fly! Well blocked by the Irish defence this time!
    • 19' Cleared off the line! Pique goes close to breaking the deadlock, but his header is a bit weak and it's an easy clearance in the end!
    • 18' Let's not forget that the Irish are without the likes of John O'Shea, Jonathan Walters, Wes Hoolahan, Marc Wilson, Aiden McGeady, Shane Long, Richard Dunne and Glenn Whelan tonight.
    • 17' Ireland skipper Robbie Keane is winning his 127th cap tonight.
    • 16' Great work from Iniesta, as he jinks past one Irish player before planting a shot wide of the mark! He just sliced that one slightly.
    • 15' This is much better now from the Irish! They're seeing a lot more of the ball than they did in the opening stages. That said, Spain are still a threat every time they have the ball, naturally.
    • 14' Ireland win a corner... Keogh takes it but McShane nods over the bar, with Valdes a little bit in no-man's land. That could have been so much better for the Irish!
    • 13' Iniesta picks out Arbeloa with a beautiful dink forward, but the marauding full-back is a yard offside.
    • 12' Keogh! Ooh! That has the crowd on their feet as his overhead kick sails over the bar! Great effort, even if it was a mile over the bar!
    • 11' Keane wins the ball in midfield and Ireland break! Pedro brings down Seamus Coleman, rather cynically, and he gets shown the game's first yellow card!
    • 9' Just a quick word on the kits tonight - Spain are in their traditional red and blue, while Ireland are sporting their dark away outfit.
    • 8' Villa now tries his luck from afar. But he rather drags his low effort and it skews wide of its intended target.
    • 7' Here come the Irish now... but Keane is dispossessed and Spain regain possession once more.
    • 6' Iniesta lets fly with a pop from distance. Keeper David Forde isn't troubled.
    • 5' Ireland will do well to weather this early storm. Spain are looking in hungry mood.
    • 4' Spain win their first corner of the match but it's dealt with well by the Irish defence and Andy Keogh is able to bring the ball clear.
    • 3' Spain have started, as expected, in total control. The Irish have barely had a touch so far.
    • 2' Manchester City fans hoping for a look at their new man Jesus Navas will have to wait - the new arrival at the Etihad is on the bench.
    • 1' Here we go then! Under way at Yankee Stadium!
    • - Spain: Victor Valdes, Gerard Pique, Sergio Ramos, Alvaro Arbeloa, Jordi Alba, Andres Iniesta, Xavi, Sergio Busquets, David Silva, Pedro, David Villa
    • - Republic of Ireland: David Forde, Paul McShane, Sean St Ledger, Darren O'Dea, Stephen Kelly, Seamus Coleman, Jeff Hendrick, James McCarthy, Andy Keogh, Robbie Keane, Connor Sammon.
    • - Hat-trick hero from that win over the Faroes and record breaker Robbie Keane leads the line as usual, here in the country where he plies his trade now.
    • - Ireland hand a debut to Derby County midfielder Jeff Hendrick tonight. He lines up alongside James McCarthy as Trap rings seven changes to the team he sent out against the Faroe Islands on Friday.
    • - Ireland went on to get hammered 6-1 by Germany in a World Cup qualifier but things have steadily improved since then. Still Giovanni Trapattoni doesn't think they've got much chance tonight: "Sure, they will win, but it will be a good test for us."
    • - The last time these two sides met it proved to be a match to forget for the Irish as Spain mauled them 4-0 in Gdansk on their way to winning Euro 2012.
    • - Spain are gearing up for their Confederations Cup campaign while Ireland are winding down after their recent World Cup qualifiers.
    • - Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Ireland's international friendly with world and European champions Spain at Yankee Stadium in New York.
