    • 90+5' FULL TIME. Arsenal hugely unfortunate to lose but the difference between the two sides is Sergio Aguero's strike.
    • 90+4' Frimpong's free-kick is cleared and Arshavin's fires in a volley that takes a little deflection before finding its way to Pantilimon's gloves.
    • 90+4' A late, late free-kick to Arsenal...
    • 90+3' Chamakh almost connects with a cross from Gervinho, and he should have done better.
    • 90+2' Pantilimon claims the corner and boots it downfield for Johnson, who is hoping to catch out Fabianski as he makes his way back to goal. However, the Arsenal keeper comes across to head the ball away!
    • 90+1' Fabianski up for a corner!
    • 90' We will have three added minutes here.
    • 88' Coquelin prises open the City defence with a fine pass for Koscielny but the Frenchman's cross is cut out.
    • 87' Oxlade-Chamberlain replaced by Andrei Arshavin as Wenger rolls the dice.
    • 86' Gervinho blasts one off target as Arsenal desperately search for an equaliser.
    • 85' Oxlade-Chamberlain dinks in a nice cross but Pantilimon gets a hand to it.
    • 84' Arsenal fans respond with hearty cheering of their side but it might not be enough. Expect City to keep things very tight from now on.
    • 83' GOAL FOR MANCHESTER CITY! City break from the Arsenal corner and punish the hosts, who have been so good tonight. Dzeko races away with the ball before playing a superb cross for Johnson. The midfielder turns the ball into the path of Aguero and there is absolutely no doubt he will beat Fabianski when tucking the ball home from 10 yards.
    • 83' Arsenal break with real menace and Gervinho drills in a cross for Benayoun, only to see City clear behind for a corner...
    • 82' I think it's fair to say that there's a rather rude song being sung at Samir Nasri at present.
    • 81' Aguero, who has been quiet since his introduction in the first half, makes a mess of an attempted toe-poke. Fabianski rests easy again.
    • 80' Arsenal also make a change as Vermaelen comes on for Miquel, who has struggled a touch.
    • 79' Abdul Razak replaces Hargreaves in the City midfield.
    • 79' Zabaleta delivers a cross from the left and Dzeko rises above Miquel, only to direct his header wide of the post.
    • 78' Arsenal have had eight shots, and six on target, to City's seven, with just one on target. The Gunners have certainly been the better side here.
    • 76' From the set-piece, the ball eventually bobbles into the path of Oxlade-Chamberlain and he sees a low effort saved by Pantilimon.
    • 75' Another excellent run from Oxlade-Chamberlain gets the home fans off their seats. He feeds the ball out wide to Gervinho but Toure gets a foot in to clear behind for a corner.
    • 74' Just to reiterate, we will have extra-time and penalties if the scores are level after 90 minutes.
    • 73' Gervinho finds a bit of space 25 yards from goal but his effort is awful as it flies high into the stands.
    • 71' Coquelin sprays a fine pass out to Chamakh but the Moroccan can't return the favour as the Frenchman arrives in the middle.
    • 70' Arsenal shift back to a more familiar shape with Gervinho on, Chamakh acting as the lone striker.
    • 68' First change for Arsenal as the lively Gervinho comes on for Park.
    • 67' Chamakh collects a pass from Benayoun but his touch takes him wide and he can't hit the target.
    • 66' Oxlade-Chamberlain embarks on another thrilling run but Zabaleta sticks a foot in to prevent him from darting into the box.
    • 65' Nasri fouled by the man who replaced him at Arsenal, Benayoun, but a quick free-kick goes awry for City.
    • 63' A poor effort from Hargreaves as he fires well over the bar from 20 yards out.
    • 62' It is worth reiterating that this has been a fine performance from an Arsenal side that cost considerably less to assemble than the team facing them tonight. In fact only three players cost anything approaching decent money - Squillaci, Koscielny and Oxlade-Chamberlain.
    • 61' Classy defending from Koscielny as he slides in to win the ball from Johnson in the box.
    • 60' Andrei Arshavin is warming up on the touchline but it is still a bit early for Arsenal to be making any subs. Will be another 10 minutes or so I imagine.
    • 59' An incidental point perhaps but again Chamakh has offered little in attack for Arsenal. Just what does he bring to the team?
    • 57' A chance for Dzeko. Zabaleta swings a cross in from the left and Dzeko attempts an unconventional finish when trying to touch the ball and spin with his studs. It doesn't come off.
    • 56' Coquelin really has been excellent in the middle of the park, or indeed wherever he pops up tonight.
    • 54' Johnson finds Aguero with a pass out to the left but he shows too much of the ball to the Arsenal defence with a rare poor touch and Coquelin dispossesses the Argentina star.
    • 53' Hargreaves picks up the first booking of the afternoon from referee Lee Probert for tripping Frimpong as the youngster nipped away from him.
    • 52' Oxlade-Chamberlain threatens again as he dives in from the right and thunders a left-footed effort at goal that Pantilimon parries at his near post.
    • 51' Coquelin spreads a fine pass out for Oxlade-Chamberlain and the winger wins a corner after trying to get a cross past Zabaleta. From the set-piece, Pantilimon is somewhat unconvincing but he does better to then clear from an Oxlade-Chamberlain cross.
    • 50' Onuoha is pulled back by Coquelin and arguably that should have been a yellow card. He escapes without one though.
    • 48' We hear that Kolarov had a minor problem that he actually sustained in the arm-up and that is why he was removed. That doesn't explain why Nasri thought he was coming off though.
    • 47' Dzeko goes close! The striker collects a square pass, turns to face goal and bends his shot narrowly wide. A decent chance for City.
    • 46' Park looks sprightly in the early stages of the second half and threads a pass through for Benayoun, who only just fails to control the ball and get a shot away.
    • 46' KICK OFF!

    • 45+2' HALF-TIME. Pantilimon on form to keep the scores at 0-0.
    • 45+1' Aguero penalised for knocking into Park some 45 yards from the City goal but we appear to be going through the motions with half-time nearly upon us.
    • 44' Park has had the best chance of the contest so far, although Pantilimon produced another superb save to deny Oxlade-Chamberlain. It remains 0-0 and we could well have extra-time and penalties.
    • 42' Aguero tries to race onto a pass through the middle but play is brought back for a foul by Frimpong on Dzeko.
    • 41' More good work from Coquelin as he snaps into a challenge in the middle of the park. The Frenchman has made quite an impact today.
    • 39' Frimpong took a knee to the head in the challenge and was down in some pain, but quickly recovered and clambered to his feet.
    • 38' Frimpong throws himself head-first into a challenge, he is working very hard tonight. The ball find Oxlade-Chamberlain on the right wing and though his deep cross is expertly flighted, Park can't get the necessary contact on the back post.
    • 36' Arsenal have had 54 per cent of the possession so far and four shots to City's three.
    • 34' Adam Johnson ruled offside as he collects a return pass from a corner.
    • 32' We will have an early change and Kolarov is replaced by Sergio Aguero. Nasri though it was himself who was coming off and that is a tactical move by Mancini. Confusion but the change is made.
    • 31' Nasri threads an excellent pass through to Johnson but he is adjudged offside just as Fabianski races off his line to collect the ball.
    • 30' Arsenal construct another flowing move but the ball is worked into the path of Frimpong and his first-time drive is very poor.
    • 29' Fabianski comes and flaps at a delivery from the right but Arsenal are lucky he isn't punished.
    • 28' Another great save! Pantilimon dives full-stretch to get a hand to a thunderous effort from Oxlade-Chamberlain that appears destined for the top corner. Superb stuff all round.
    • 26' Oxlade-Chamberlain with the delivery but he fails to beat the first man. Arsenal win a throw and Djourou chucks it to Oxlade-Chamberlain, who does Zabaleta with a backheel and should win a corner, but doesn't.
    • 25' Arsenal string together a neat move and while Park can't connect with a Frimpong cross, the ball is worked to Coquelin who sees a low effort deflected behind for a corner.
    • 24' Coquelin is fine to continue which is excellent news for Arsenal as his form in this competition this season has been really eye-catching.
    • 23' A concern for Arsenal as Coquelin is down in pain after what appeared to be an unfortunate collision with Onuoha. His leg bent in a pretty nasty fashion, but he is okay to hobble off.
    • 21' Sebastien Squillaci produces an important headed clearance. Zabaleta swings in a wicked cross from the left and the Frenchman clears just as Dzeko is leaping to head home.
    • 20' It has been a pretty positive start for Arsenal, with Coquelin and Oxlade-Chamberlain impressing, particularly given their lack of experience. However, City always look dangerous, with Johnson in particular a menace.
    • 18' Owen Hargreaves lifts an excellent pass over the top of the Arsenal defence but Dzeko is inches offside as he runs onto the ball and pokes it over the bar.
    • 16' Oxlade-Chamberlain combines really well with Johan Djourou and then Coquelin as he plots a way through the City defence but he is crowded out and can't get a shot away.
    • 15' City carve out a half-chance as Zabaleta pings a shot wide from the right. That was never troubling the keeper.
    • 14' Replays show just how superb that save was. Pantilimon threw out his left arm and clawed the ball away with his fingertips. Excellent stuff from Joe Hart's deputy.
    • 12' Great chance for Arsenal! Coquelin whips in a low, dangerous cross from the right and when Park arrives at the back post he can't squeeze the ball past Costel Pantilimon. A great save.
    • 11' Miquel produces a back-pass that rolls a touch short and forces Fabianski into a snatched clearance that goes for a throw.
    • 10' Early chance for Adam Johnson as he cuts in past Ignasi Miquel from the right and smashes a shot narrowly off target. That was a fierce effort from the winger.
    • 9' Kolarov halts the run of Coquelin by tugging the young midfielder's shirt in the centre of the pitch. Arsenal take the set-piece quickly but find their progress stifled and the ball is worked all the way back to Lukasz Fabianski.
    • 7' Sergio Aguero has been asked to warm-up already, which is a bit of a concern for City. Perhaps Edin Dzeko is feeling something.
    • 6' Now Oxlade-Chamberlain spots a route around Zabaleta but his touch of the ball is too heavy. He looks like he will be a handful tonight.
    • 5' Park Chu-young robs the ball from Onuoha but his attempted ball in for Chamakh is hoofed high up into the air. That was poor from the South Korea international.
    • 4' Francis Coquelin picks out Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with a looping pass and while Pablo Zabaleta is grounded, the England Under-21 international cannot pull the ball down.
    • 3' Yossi Benayoun embarks on a run down the left wing and is brought to a halt by Nedum Onuoha, making a rare appearance indeed for City tonight.
    • 2' Nasri's first proper touch is greeted by boos by the home side and he feeds Edin Dzeko. However, Emmanuel Frimpong puts in a strong challenge to win the ball back.
    • 1' KICK OFF!
    • 20.01 A period of silence breaks into applause and chants of "One Gary Speed" as we remember a man who had such an impact on English football.
    • 20.00 We will now have a minute's appreciation for the life and career of Gary Speed, Wales manager, who took his own life at the weekend.

    • 19.55 In terms of recent meetings, an understrength Arsenal were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Manchester City at the quarter-final stage in 2009. The scorers on that day were Vladimir Weiss, Shaun Wright-Phillips and a player by the name of Carlos Tevez, who has since faded into obscurity. No, me neither.
    • 19.50 So what do the stats tell us? Well, Manchester City have not won away at Arsenal in 36 years and 28 games. The Gunners are also aiming to reach the last four for the sixth time in nine seasons - remarkably given it is a competition that comes firmly bottom at Arsene Wenger's list of priorities.
    • 19.45 Wenger was also at pains to ask Arsenal fans to respect the club's former players who turn out tonight. However, don't expect any applause for Samir Nasri: the manner of his departure was a bone of contention in this corner of North London and he can expect abuse from the stands I am afraid.
    • 19.40 Arsenal, meanwhile, started bothering about the Carling Cup last season, reaching the final, and that policy continues this year as their search for a trophy goes on. This isn't Arsenal's first XI by any means but Arsene Wenger has challenged them to prove to him they are worthy of a place in the team. The Gunners are 4-4-2 with Park and Chamakh in attack. Wenger: Impress me
    • 19.35 Roberto Mancini, along with Kenny Dalglish who takes his side to Chelsea tonight, has been angered that this fixture comes just 50 hours after the end of a hard-fought draw with Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday. That explains the numerous changes in his side. Mancini: Fixture schedule is 'incredible'
    • 19.30 Both sides, as expected, make plenty of changes. Arsenal's XI is well short of Premier League experience and City's looks a lot stronger, even if Aleksandar Kolarov plays at left midfield. A prediction? 2-1 to Roberto Mancini's side.
    • 19.25 TEAMS: Arsenal: Fabianski, Djourou, Squillaci, Koscielny, Miquel, Frimpong, Coquelin, Benayoun, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Park, Chamakh. Subs: Mannone, Yennaris, Vermaelen, Eastmond, Ozyakup, Gervinho, Arshavin. /// Man City: Pantilimon, Onuoha, K Toure, Savic, Zabaleta, De Jong, Hargreaves, Johnson, Nasri, Kolarov, Dzeko. Subs: Taylor, Bridge, Richards, Suarez, Rekik, Razak, Aguero.
    • 19.20 One bit of early team news for you: Owen Hargreaves makes his second start of the season for City, while Arsenal old boy Samir Nasri is in from the start.
    • 19.15 Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the Carling Cup quarter-final tie between Arsenal and Manchester City at a sell-out Emirates Stadium. Around 60,000 or so should be packed in to watch what is expected to be a battle between two second-string sides. However, there will be plenty of talent on display.
