    • 120'+2 And there's the final whistle. A penalty shoot-out to decide who will face Manchester City in the Capital One Cup final.
    • 120'+1 GOAL! FORGET THAT! DE GEA IS SAVED! Januzaj does brilliantly and plays a one-two, then puts a low cross in that Hernandez stabs in. Penalties ahoy.
    • 120' Two minutes of added time.
    • 119' GOAL - BARDSLEY PUTS SUNDERLAND INTO THE FINAL! Incredible scenes, and what a mistake by David De Gea. The ball breaks to Bardsley on the edge of the area, he hits a low shot straight at the United keeper, who somehow allows it to slip through his fingers and into the corner.
    • 117' Bardsley fires a cross/shot in front of goal, but nobody can get a touch on it. Alonso then gets a booking for hauling Valencia down.
    • 116' Booking for Januzaj.
    • 115' Altidore bumbles his way towards goal and, via luck or judgement or something or other, gets a corner.
    • 114' Hernandez takes the ball into the corner and tries to hold onto it. Seriously.
    • 113' Johnson whips over a free kick from the left, Fletcher gets his head to it but it flicks off Jones and goes behind. No corner given, though.
    • 112' Another booking - Jones gets a yellow for fouling Fletcher.
    • 111' A break on now for United, as Januzaj advances on goal, but his shot is straight at De Gea, when he had other options. Careless, but he did look pretty tired.
    • 110' United genuinely seem to be running the clock down here. Pretty embarrassing.
    • 109' Alonso drives towards the middle and feeds Bardsley, but his shot is blocked. Januzaj counters, but is rather cynically pulled down by Gardner, who is booked.
    • 108' Altidore tries to advance from the left, but completely misses his kick in a slapstick fashion. Still somehow manages to get a throw out of it, mind.
    • 107' O'Shea, of all people, pops up on the right wing and crosses, but it eventually goes wide through a sea of bodies.
    • - Would Mata have put this bed to game by now?

    • 106' Right, here we go again. 15 minutes away from the end of this game, and 15 minutes closer to the merciful oblivion of the infinate.
    • 105' Johnson puts a corner in from the right, but it's headed behind, and that's half-time in extra-time.
    • 104' Johnson and Ki create a chance for Fletcher on the edge of the area, but his shot hits Smalling in the head and goes clear.
    • 103' Another effort on target for United, as Welbeck tries to place a shot, but places it directly into Mannone's arms.
    • 102' Oh boy. Januzaj puts Hernandez clean through, but he seems to lose energy and takes a very early shot, but he's off balance and skews it wide. Poor effort.
    • 101' Ki swings a good corner over from the left, but Smalling heads clear.
    • 100' Johnson lays the ball off to Bardsley on the right corner of the area, and the full-back takes a nice touch to create space for a shot, but the shot itself is dragged wide.
    • 99' Johnson skims the corner over from the right, but De Gea punches clear at the near post.
    • 98' Bardsley crosses from the right, and Jones slices his clearance out for a corner.
    • 97' Hernandez backheels through to Welbeck, but O'Shea does well to shepherd the ball away from him.
    • 96' Valencia goes down as he tries to attack on the right, but nothing is given.
    • - Gus Poyet rallies his troops.

    • 95' Sunderland have a free kick to the left of centre. Gardner curls it in, but it goes just wide.
    • 94' Looks like Carrick might have to go off after twisting his ankle. Phil Jones comes on to replace him.
    • 93' Sunderland counter through Altidore, who feeds Gardner, but his cross is too deep.
    • 92' Welbeck lays it off to Rafael, but the Brazilian defender almost trips over the thing and it's cleared.
    • 91' And here we go. Another 30 minutes. If United can just sit tight and hold on, they will go through on away goals. Another chapter in their glorious history.
    • 90'+4 Januzaj flicks the free kick over the wall, but Mannone catches, and that's that. Extra-time awaits.
    • 90'+3 Big chance for United. Hernandez drives down the middle but his hacked down by O'Shea just outside the area. Free kick, and a booking for the SUnderland man,
    • 90'+2 Pretty weird game - United are the team that look like they're hanging on, despite them being the home team. And Manchester United.
    • 90'+1 Bardsley puts over a dangerous cross from the right, and despite it bouncing around in the box rather, United eventually bundle it clear.
    • 90' Three minutes of added time. Next goal wins...
    • 89' Rafael drills a low cross in, it breaks to Januzaj but Mannone just about gets there to punch clear at the near post.
    • 88' Hernandez makes space on the left, but his right-footed cross comes to not much.
    • 87' United attack for the first time in a while - Valencia runs down the right but his cross is blocked. Corner for United.
    • 86' And a change for Sunderland - Jozy Altidore comes on for Borini, who seems to have picked up a knock.
    • 85' Change for United - Patrice Evra comes on for Buttner.
    • 84' Borini tries to control on is chest and hook a shot towards goal, but he can't get over it and the effort goes high and wide.
    • 83' O'Shea finds the run of Bardsley down the right, but his volleyed cross is blocked.
    • 82' Change for Sunderland - Craig Gardner replaces Cattermole.
    • 81' Tense last ten minutes for United here. Sunderland look threatening.
    • 80' Johnson cuts in from the right but his shot is low and not especially powerful, and De Gea gathers.
    • 79' So close from Alonso - the ball finds its way to the left back at the far post, with the United defence AWOL, but his effort fizzes fiercely across the goal and wide.
    • 78' Big call by referee Lee Mason - Fletcher gets the better of Smalling and appears to be through, and seems to be pulled down by the United man, but nothing is given. Looked like a foul, and probably a red card.
    • 77' United under some pressure here. Carrick has to head one cross clear at the far post. Sunderland looking for what would be a winning goal.
    • 76' Great chance for Johnson. It's crossed over to him in the box, he controls on his chest and volleys, but it's blocked by Buttner and goes out for a corner.
    • 75' United counter-attack through the middle, and Carrick looks for a neat threaded pass, but it's too strong and misdirected and goes out for a goal kick.
    • 74' Johnson picks up the ball on the right, but is once again bundled over by Buttner.
    • 73' Welbeck sort of gets his head to the corner at the near post, but Mannone claims it relatively easily.
    • 72' Januzaj cuts in from the right, tries a shot but it's deflected off Colback and loops just wide.
    • 70' Fletcher plays a nice ball down the United right for Rafael, but Mannone scampers from his goal to hoof clear.
    • 69' Johnson skims a cross over towards Fletcher in the middle, but it's just too high for him.
    • 68' Incidentally, in case you didn't know, Juan Mata will apparently have a medical at United tomorrow after they agreed a £37m fee with Chelsea.
    • 67' Valencia feeds Januzaj again on the edge of the box, but he slices his shot pretty badly and it goes wide.
    • 66' Januzaj finds a lot of space around 30 yards from goal, but his low shot dribbles quite sadly wide.
    • 65' Borini goes into the book for a late foul on Evans.
    • 64' Hernandez is fouled outisde the area, takes a quick free kick but Januzaj can't make much of the chance.
    • 63' Sunderland make some progress down the left, but Alonso's right-footed cross is weak and floats away at the far post.
    • 62' Looks like Januzaj will move over to the left, Valencia on the right and Welbeck will join Hernandez up front.
    • 61' Substitution for United - Kagawa, who has been quiet again, is replaced by Antonio Valencia.
    • 60' The free kick is chipped into the box, but Wes Brown can't keep it in at the far post.
    • 59' Alonso cuts in from the left, but is bundled over by Rafael.
    • 58' Johnson looks to be popping up in more central positions now, looking for some inspiration.
    • 57' Sunderland dominating possession here, but not doing a huge amount with it at the moment.
    • 56' Johnson looks for a through ball to Fletcher, but Evans intercepts.
    • 55' Borini runs towards the byline then cuts back in, but his shot is blocked by Evans.
    • 54' Januzaj picks up the ball in a deep position, exchanges passes with Carrick then hits a dipping shot just wide.
    • 53' The ball breaks to Johnson on the edge of the area, who shoots but it goes wide. It looked like it took a very slight deflection off a United leg, but a goal kick is given.
    • 52' Smalling does well to head away the follow-up corner from Johnson, strongly clearing the danger.
    • 51' Ki floats a cross over after a short corner on the right, but it's just headed behind for another corner.
    • 50' Ki attacks down the right, but he's bundled over by Buttner.
    • 49' Rafael cuts in from the right, and tries a left-footed shot from the edge of the area, but it goes just over.
    • 48' Colback tries to drive through the middle, but he runs into some trouble and is dispossessed.
    • 47' Januzaj fires the shot in, but it goes just over the bar.
    • 46' And the second half is underway, and United immediately win a free-kick in a dangerous position, around 25 yards from goal and just to the right of centre. Januzaj is lining it up.
    • 45'+1 And nothing of note happens in that minute. United go into the break 1-0 up, levelling the tie 2-2 on aggregate. United have been the better team, but Sunderland are still very much in this.
    • 45' We'll have one minute of added time.
    • 44' Fletcher plays a ball over the top looking for Welbeck, but the ball is far too strong.
    • 43' Borini does brilliantly to win the ball and create some space for himself on the left, but his cross goes over Fletcher's head.
    • 42' Fletcher tries to create something on the right of the box, butting in on his left foot, but Carrick does well to intercept his low cross into the area.
    • 41' Brown does well to get up at the far post and direct a header at goal, but Buttner is there to head away, about two yards off the line.
    • 40' Borini does well to win a corner on the left for Sunderland.
    • 39' Sunderland try to get back into the game straight away, but Ki's through ball for Alonso down the left of the box is too strong.
    • 38' United probably deserve their lead. If things stay as they are until the end of extra-time, they will go through on away goals.
    • 37' GOAL - EVANS GIVES UNITED THE LEAD! Januzaj puts a corner over from the right, Welbeck miss-hits a first-time shot which bounces up and finds the head of Evans at the far post, where he heads in unmarked.
    • 35' United go very close. Januzaj and Kagawa combine well on the right, the Japanese playmaker does well to get the cross over and Fletcher meets it, but can only hit the post, then Welbeck's follow-up is saved.
    • 34' Johnson fires over the free-kick himself, but it's headed clear at the near post.
    • 33' Johnson tries to create space on the right corner of the box, but he's fouled by Welbeck, back helping out the defence.
    • 32' Johnson plays Bardsley in on the right, but his floated cross is easy for De Gea.
    • 31' Welbeck is fed on the left corner of the box, but his powerful effort goes high and wide.
    • 30' Fletcher loses the ball in a promising position but does well to win it back. That's a couple of loose passes the United midfielder has made so far.
    • 29' Januzaj plays it short to Kagawa, but they over-complicate it slightly and a promising position comes to nothing.
    • 28' United win a free-kick in a potentially dangerous position out on the right flank. Januzaj stands over it.
    • 27' Rafael and Hernandez play a one-two just to the right of centre, but the latter is fouled by Colback. Again, he's lucky not to be booked.
    • 26' Buttner advances on the left, makes his way towards the area but for some reason spins around and again, the attack fizzles.
    • 25' Januzaj does well down the right and plays a superb slipped pass through to Rafael, but Borini covers well and the attack dies out.
    • 24' The corner is too deep, and Sunderland have to build again through Colback and Ki.
    • 23' Fletcher makes ground down the left and does well to win a corner off Smalling.
    • 22' Mistake by Fletcher, who is tackled by Cattermole and Sunderland counter, but the attack fizzles out.
    • 21' Januzaj is taken out again on the right. Could become a theme, this.
    • 20' A long diagonal looks for Fletcher, who wins the header but can't get control of the ball afterwards.
    • 19' A long ball over the top finds its way to Borini, who rifles a dangerous shot just over the bar. Sunderland's best chance by a long way.
    • 17' Mannone nearly gets himself into a bit of trouble with Hernandez closing him down, but he eventually manages to clear.
    • 16' Alonso swings over a cross from deep on the left, but it's too long and Buttner shanks it clear, although not especially convincingly.
    • 15' Sunderland knock the ball around midfield and at the back as they look to get a foothold in the game.
    • 14' Kagawa drills a pass at Hernandez's chest just inside the area, and the forward is penalised for handball. Replays suggest that was a tad harsh.
    • 13' Fairly quiet start to the game so far. A couple of half-chances for both sides, with only one clear-cut opportunity for United with that Hernandez header.
    • 12' Buttner, you'll be astonished to hear, rather clumsily bundles Johnson over on the Sunderland right. Who knew?
    • 11' Kagawa chips a neat ball over the top looking for Hernandez, but the Mexican can't quite get the ball under control.
    • 10' Kagawa drifts inside from the left and tries a one-two with Hernandez, but he can't pick up the second ball.
    • 9' O'Shea makes his way forward for a free kick from very deep on the Sunderland left. He gets a head to it, but De Gea watches it go wide of the post.
    • 8' Colback feeds Ki from the left, who tries a shot from about 30-yards out, but it's very weak and dribbles wide of the post.
    • 7' Borini advances down the left, but Smalling steps across to dispossess him with some ease.
    • 6' Januzaj puts a deep ball over from the free kick and finds Hernandez at the far post, but his header from short range is well saved by Mannone.
    • 5' Borini, closing down Rafael, takes the Brazilian out with a late challenge. He then chops Januzaj to the ground as the young winger advances down the right. Very, very lucky not to be booked for one of those.
    • 4' Carrick floats a ball from the right channel towards Fletcher, who is lurking at the far post, but Bardsley heads it out for a corner.
    • 3' Ki feeds Marcus Alonso deep on the left, but his low drilled cross is easily cleared.
    • 2' United have had the majority of the ball so far, a couple of wayward passes aside.
    • 1' And United get us underway.
    • 19:41 The teams make their way out onto the pitch.
    • 19:38 Fancy a bet? United are a best price 7/10, while you can get 10/1 on Sunderland in some places. Remember that's a price in 90 minutes, rather than including extra-time.
    • 19:35 Nearly 9,000 Sunderland fans at Old Trafford tonight, and they're already making quite a noise.
    • 19:31 Just to remind you all, Sunderland are 2-1 up from the first leg. Away goals will only count 'double' at the end of extra-time.'
    • 19:20 Depending on how you want to read this, Gus Poyet might actually be patronising United. Which is pretty rough: "It's an important game for Manchester United, I am sure. They need to make sure that they get in there as well. Now, we are not going to go there feeling sorry or whatever, we are going to go there to do our job and play the game, make it difficult for them, make sure we are a difficult team to play against, that we go with the mentality to win and score goals, and then we will see."
    • 19:16 David Moyes just wants to put a smile back on the United fans' faces. He said: "We’re going to go out and do everything we can to get through. I want to give the supporters something to cheer about. There’s not been an awful lot and I’m fully aware of that but I thought how we played today (against Chelsea) was not bad. The players played well but if you are going to defend the way we did then we are going to find it tough."
    • 19:08 For Sunderland, it will be interesting to see how they set up - it looks like Fabio Borini and Adam Johnson will be on either flank, with Steven Fletcher up front, but Borini could easily play up top himself. New signings Santiago Vergini and Oscar Ustari are on the bench.
    • 19:05 So no Juan Mata in the starting XI for Manchester United? What is David Moyes playing at? Shinji Kagawa gets a start, seemingly on the right, with Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez up front. No Wayne Rooney or Robin van Persie again, which could be troubling for United fans.
    • 18:56 SUNDERLAND: Mannone; Bardsley, Alonso, Brown, O'Shea; Cattermole, Colback, Ki, Johnson; Borini, Fletcher. SUBS: Larsson, Gardner, Celustka, Altidore, Giaccherini, Vergini, Ustari.
    • 18:55 MANCHESTER UNITED: De Gea; Rafael, Smalling, Evans, Buttner; Kagawa, Carrick, Fletcher, Januzaj; Welbeck, Hernandez. SUBS: Lindegaard, Evra, Jones, Cleverley, Giggs, Young, Valencia.

  1. The MU players were trying to miss - Utd clearly don't want to play in the Europa league.

  2. Why not Moyes play the Rafael brothers in midfield as wingers cos' lets face it they're Brazilians and they can't defend to save their lives but they like bombing forwards

  3. I've a good mind to Ring Sir Alex Ferguson to find out what's going on because the result wasn't right

  4. Raymond I quite agree there is no need for the away goals rule in the FA Cup which is a one off game either at home or away and in all honesty I don't think there would be as many giant killings if the FA Cup was played over two legs with the away goals rule was in place. In closing while I'm not sure the clubs will go for it or that the individual clubs stadia are big enough I would like to see a two legged final especially when the cup final involves two northern sides but Wembley is an experience both for the players and the supporters I wish Sunderland well and hope they beat Money Bags City

  5. SUPERMAN Sorry the United Fans but ' the bubble has burst ' ....................the Red Gorgon has retired and everybody has relaxed too much , no longer are players under threat of repercussions from Fergie, so that is Moyes main dilemma this season. Plus the backbone of the team depended on a strong defence and a powerful and creative midfield , but these have become suspect with their standard..................Vidic , Ferdinand , Evra plus Nevilles retiring led to the main core dilapidated with age , injuries and loss of form and speed and the midfield of Giggs , Scholes , Fletcher and Nani again let down by retirement and injuries and new blood was needed. Only the forward line was still potent but injuries and recovery was often delayed , so Hernandez , Rooney , Van Persil , Welbeck all suffered injuries at various times , but this season was exceptional for lack of the two main players Shrek Rooney and Hans Van Persil at the pre-Christmas period when they had too many hiccups in matches slowly dropping down in the league. THINGS CANNOT BE WORSE THAN THEY ARE WITH THE SEMI-FINAL LOSS TO SUNDERLAND .

  9. Moyes has his two best strikers injured and its obvious half the other players brought in aren't good enough. Rebuilding is required,Fergies teams always had a solid defence,Rio is finished,Vidic as well,Rafael not good enough ! Jones, Fellaini etc aren't Man Utd standard !! Give Moyes a chance to rebuild !

  10. I see all the man utd whiners are out in force. Well have you not wo enough cups in your history.there are teams worse off than you in lower league's than you. not only that most of the utd fans around my area dont goto matches but brag about how great their team is. To me they are armchair glory hunters. i have been a loyal fan of my team for 50 yrs through good and bad times like this season. We won a cup and relegated in the same season. as us birmingham fans sing - keep right on to the end of the road.

  18. Moyes must go that is obvious but also so should SAF and all the players he bought! He is the main reason for the terminal decline, didn't he buy Bebe? SAF has been clueless for years and really would be better called SFA. Keep Januzaj and ditch the rest. Get a new team and manager next week and start again.
