    • - Full-time - and it's City who advance to the final eight of the Capital One Cup.
    • 118' Good inital football from Ben Arfa who finds himself in a decent wide position but his cross is overhit and disappointing.
    • 116' Silva beats one man and then two but his good work is undone by Dzeko who shows a really tired first touch and loses the ball.
    • 115' Chances coming thick and fast now as Silva curls an effort just wide of the post, great effort.
    • 113' Credit to Newcastle who continue to move forward in search of a goal.
    • 112' So close for Ben Arfa! Fantastic technique from the Frenchman who does well to turn a half-volley goalwards and Lescott makes a fantastic goal-line clearance to maintain a clean sheet for City.
    • 110' City seem happy to just see out this game now.
    • 108' Milner! A real stinging effort from Milner forces a save from Krul who tips the ball around the post.
    • 107' Newcastle will be disappointed to be losing this match and will now surely have one eye on Chelsea - their next opponents.
    • 106' And we're off again for the final 15 minutes.
    • - Half-time in extra-time.
    • 105' The goal is cruel on Newcastle who had probably shaded the 90.
    • 105' GOAL! 2-0 City. Dzeko has rounded Krul to make it 2-0 after great work from Milner. Game over.
    • 103' Frustration for the home side as Debuchy's cross is poor and Pantilimon has all the time in the world to catch the ball.
    • 102' Newcastle looking for an immediate equaliser with Ben Arfa at the heart of every attack.
    • 100' Ben Arfa dazzles his way through a City challenge and delivers a dangerous cross which is put out for a corner.
    • 99' They've taken their time but it now looks as though City will be in tonight's draw for the quarter-final.
    • 99' GOAL! At last! City take the lead through Negredo as he latches onto Dzeko's squared ball.
    • 97' Navas shows some nice feet and delivers a cross for Dzeko who heads wide. It's been a frustrating night for the forward.
    • 96' Tired legs are clearly evident now. Negredo and Ben Arfa both caught offside inside a minute.
    • 95' What a wonderful opportunity that was for Cisse to finally break his goal drought. Pantilimon has done his chances absolutely no harm tonight.
    • 93' Sissoko's lofted through ball finds Cisse behind the defence but he's ruled offside on this occasion.
    • 92' A wonderful ball from Ben Arfa finds Cisse who found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and the Romanian made himself big to make a terrific save. A real chance.
    • 91' And City get us underway in extra-time.
    • - The referee has called a stop to normal time and we will proceed to extra-time.
    • 90'+3 Silva is booked for kicking the ball away in frustration.
    • 90'+1 It's been a nervy couple of minutes for Krul in Newcastle's goal as he comes to collect a cross and makes a mess of it. Fortunately for him Negredo couldn't connect.
    • 90' A total of four minutes additional time will be played - can we find a winner?
    • 88' A quick corner catches City unaware but Cisse is flagged for offside after meeting Cabaye's cross. That was a let off for the visitors.
    • 87' Kolarov finds Negredo at the back post whose cushion header is fumbled by Krul but Newcastle manage to clear the danger.
    • 86' Just a few minutes until the 90' are up and it looks as though we will have 30 minutes of extra-time.
    • 85' Ben Arfa shows some quick feet to open up some space for Newcastle as Debuchy's finds time to cross the ball but it's too long.
    • 83' Richards misery has finally been brought to an end - he's been struggling for the past few minutes and he is eventually replaced by Pablo Zabaleta.
    • 81' A substitute is substituted: Hatem Ben Arfa comes on for Dummet.
    • 80' Richards has gone to ground with suspected cramp and Newcastle generously put the ball out, much to the displeasure of the home support.
    • 78' Milner's scuffed shot causes trouble in the Newcastle defence and Tiote is relieved to clear the ball under pressure.
    • 77' What a chance for City. Negredo dribbles past a Newcastle challenge in the penalty box after some good link-up play with Dzeko but he delays his shot and aims to lob Krul but his effort is disappointing and it's an opportunity wasted.
    • 76' The set-piece fails to come to anything and Debuchy looks to hit City on the break but his pass is more hopeful than anything and the visitors recover.
    • 75' Continued pressure from City as Milner wins a corner which Navas will take.
    • 73' Navas finds himself in an advanced position and a quick turn of pace beats his marker but his cross is met by Dzeko who heads wide.
    • 72' Tiote comes back onto the pitch. It will be interesting to see if he lasts the rest of the match - Newcastle fans will have their fingers crossed he does.
    • 71' It doesn't look good for Tiote as he limps off to the side of the pitch.
    • 70' Gouffran and Tiote have had a coming together with Richards and it's Newcastle's skipper and the City player who have came off the worse as both players stay down.
    • 68' Anita puts a stop to a City attack and break quickly through Sissoko who finds Cabaye but his shot is tame and wide.
    • 66' Ameobi had a decent game up front for Newcastle - he had a couple of near misses in the first-half and of course that disallowed goal which would have given his side the lead.
    • 65' Now it gets interesting... Yohan Cabaye and will replace Ameobi.
    • 64' Pellegrini finally looks to the bench as David Silva replaces Rodwell.
    • 62' Navas dispossesses Krul who ran out of his box and he pulls the ball back to Milner who sees his powerful shot flash over the bar. Best chance for City and Krul nearly left embarrassed.
    • 60' An hour played of this match and we are still goalless. Remember, if the scores are level at full-time we will have an extra 30 minutes and if the match is still level it will go to penalties!
    • 59' The further we get into the game the more open it is becoming as City look to improve on their first-half performance.
    • 58' The cross is cleared and the ball falls to Rodwell whose effort sails well over the bar.
    • 57' Navas wins his side a corner.
    • 55' Navas shows his vision there as he tries to pluck out Negredo who makes a hopeful run but it's well cut out by Yanga-Mbiwa.
    • 54' Boyata rises highest to meet the corner ball but his header is closer to the throw-in flag than the goal. The ball is delivered back into the danger area but Richards heads over.
    • 53' A nervy moment for Newcastle as Yanga-Mbiwa can only head Navas' cross out for a corner.
    • 52' That was better from City. Some fast football passed out from defence eventually finds Negredo out wide but his cross is gathered by Krul.
    • 51' Ameobi lays the ball off to Anita and his 25-yard drive is straight at the goalkeeper.
    • 50' I'm a bit surprised City never made any changes at the break; they were very disappointing in the first-half and they are lucky they are still level.
    • 49' In all competitions, this is the 169th fixture between Manchester City and Newcastle United. City have won 60 (35.71%), drawn 38 (22.62%) and lost 70 (41.67%) of the previous 168 meetings.
    • 48' Haidara had a lively first-half and I can only imagine he hasn't been able to shake off that knock he took in the early stages.
    • 47' It's an early first touch for Dummett whose neat cross is gathered by City's Romanian 'keeper.
    • 46' Dummett has replaced Haidara at the break.
    • 46' And we're off for the second-half.
    • - And it's half-time here at St James'.
    • 45'+1 It's not convincing goalkeeping from Hart's replacement as his weak punch from the corner falls for Ameobi who can't connect.
    • 45' Boyota is now guilty of a mis-kick as his clearance goes out for a home corner...
    • 44' A powerful and pacey run from Richards who breaks forward and skips past a couple of tackles but he mis-kicks the ball and it goes out for a goal-kick as the Newcastle fans cheer.
    • 43' A packed house at St James' tonight - the Capital One Cup is a trophy the Newcastle faithful would love to get their hands on this season.
    • 42' Negredo puts the ball into row Z as he tries the spectacular.
    • 41' Just under five minutes until the break now and City will probably be the happier with the score-line so far.
    • 39' Rodwell finds himself in space in the penalty area but his pull back can't find a City shirt and Tiote clears.
    • 38' Garcia received a yellow card for his foul on Haidara which resulted in that free-kick.
    • 37' Another free-kick for Newcastle who go close again. Anita's driven close is just beyond the reach of Ameobi.
    • 36' So City have survived a few scares in this first-half so far - alarm bells are sure to be ringing for manager Manuel Pellegrini.
    • 35' Perhaps the most famous meeting between these two sides was the League Cup final at Wembley in 1976 where the Blues ran out 2-1 victors thanks to a spectacular over-head kick from Dennis Tueart.
    • 33' It's been Newcastle who have had the better chances but it remains 0-0.
    • 32' The ball falls wonderfully for Anita on the edge of the area and his volley dips narrowly wide. What a chance.
    • 31' Ameobi's goal has been ruled out for offside. Anita's free-kick delivery is a great one and finds Cisse whose header is awful, the ball rebounds back to the striker and his attempted shot is latched onto by Ameobi at the back post but the referee correctly flags for offside.
    • 30' It's Milner's turn to be punished for handball and Newcastle will look to deliver the resulting free-kick into the box.
    • 29' Anita's cross is eventually cleared.
    • 28' Gouffran's cross finds Cisse who miscontrols the ball but Ameobi gets the luck of the bounce and his half volley is well saved by Pantilimon.
    • 27' Further injury trouble for City as Milner is down after a collision with Yanga-Mbiwa.
    • 26' But Newcastle clear and the score remains 0-0.
    • 25' Navas wins a corner as his attempted cross is blocked by Haidara.
    • 23' Milner accelerates into the box with plenty of time and space but his cross is so poor and sails over the bar.
    • 22' Kolarov's free-kick is surprisingly poor and doesn't beat the first man.
    • 21' Fantastic close control from Milner draws a handball from Haidara and a free-kick in a dangerous position is awarded to City.
    • 20' Cisse picks out Debuchy out wide and his cross is met by Gouffran who has far too much to do and heads the ball out for a goal-kick.
    • 18' Gouffran has left the pitch to receive some treatment. It looks as though he tripped Negredo and has came out second best.
    • 17' Milner lays the ball off to Rodwell and gets it back on the edge of the box but he sees his shot well blocked.
    • 16' Dzeko is back on the pitch as City look to keep posssession after a rather slow start.
    • 15' Dzeko has left the pitch to make a change to his footwear. Meanwhile, Milner is caught and City are awarded a free-kick.
    • 14' It's been Newcastle who have made a brighter start to this game and they will fancy their chances here tonight, they certainly look confident.
    • 12' The injury to Jovetic will be a big blow to the Montenegrin who had a bright start to this tie.
    • 11' Haidara's free-kick is blocked by Negredo whose first touch is to get the ball slammed into his ribs.
    • 10' Early substitution for City as Jovetic is replaced by Negredo. Seems as though Jovetic has picked up a knock.
    • 9' Newcastle continue their early pressure as Anita is caught by Rodwell deep in City's half.
    • 8' Ameobi wins a long ball in the air from Krul and finds Cisse whose flick just goes narrowly wide. The first we have saw from the partnership tonight.
    • 7' The free-kick is delivered and is met by Williamson who heads the ball into the danger area but Dzeko clears.
    • 6' Ameobi is caught by Micah Richards just on the edge of the box... dangerous position for a free-kick.
    • 5' Williamson brings down Jovetic after mis-controlling the ball - he's a lucky boy to escape a yellow card as City were in a dangerous position.
    • 4' Jovetic is controversially flagged for offside when clear on goal after being put through by Rodwell. He looked onside to me.
    • 3' A direct ball fielded in the direction of Ameobi is just too long for the Newcastle veteran.
    • 2' A nervy moment for Lescott early on as he looked nervous under some pressure from Ameobi but he manages to get himself out of trouble with a neat turn.
    • 1' Pantilimon gets an early feel of the ball.
    • 1' And we're underway at St James' Park. The quarter-final draw will be revealed at the conclusion of this match - who will be in the hat for the final eight of the Capital One Cup? We're about to find out...
    • 19.40 Five minutes to go and we're nearly ready to go at St James' Park.
    • 19.35 The pair are meeting in a cup competition for the first time since February 2002 and for the fourth time in the League Cup as a whole. Which team will progress tonight? Tweet me @DarrenBeatz.

    • 19.30 We are just 15 minutes away from kick-off. I've noticed plenty of punters backing the home team to come up with a surprise tonight. If they are able to do so, they will progress to the fifth round of the Capital One Cup for the first time since 2006.
    • 19.25 Manuel Pellegrini (after losing to Chelsea): "We repeat the story. We had absolutely the control of the game. We played very, very well in the second half. We didn't have any problem with Chelsea but finally in the last minute we lost. We are losing stupid points."
    • 19.20 (Pardew continued): "For the Champions League clubs, maybe it's a little down on their agenda, but it's high on our agenda. For us this year it is a priority. We want to win a trophy for our fans."
    • 19.20 After suffering derby day defeat, Pardew said: "The derby was a really demanding game on the legs and on the emotions. We're disappointed for the fans and ourselves. But, if we could beat Manchester City, I think it would get people talking, because then we'd be down to the last eight and it all becomes a bit serious. I think any team in the Premier League can consider this a tournament they can win..."
    • 19.15 History isn't in the home side's favour tonight - they have lost the last eight meetings between the two clubs and you have to go back to September 2005 since the Magpies last defeated City. Pardew will almost certainly be relieved to have seen Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero not included on the bench.
    • 19.13 City have already beaten Newcastle this season and Pardew will be hoping there will be no repeat of the 4-0 loss which his side were welcomed to on the opening day of the season.
    • 19.10 Both sides will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing weekend in the league. The hosts fell to a devastating 2-1 defeat away to arch-rivals Sunderland while Man City's mixed start to the campaign continued with a dramatic 2-1 loss to title contenders Chelsea.
    • 19.07 Manuel Pelligrini makes 10 changes to his side's defeat to Chelsea game - As well as Pantilimon's inclusion, Dedryck Boyata is in at centre-half alongside Lescott, Rodwell is in there as well as Stevan Jovetic who impressed in the previous round against Wigan. Javi Garcia is the sole survivor.
    • 19.06 NEWCASTLE UNITED SUBSTITUTES: Elliot, Dummett, Cabaye, Sammy Ameobi, Ben Arfa, Obertan, Remy /// MANCHESTER CITY SUBSTITUTES: Hart, Zabaleta, Nasri, Negredo, Silva, Fernandinho, Demichelis
    • 19.00 Major changes for City also - the major talking point is Joe Hart's expected exclusion as he is replaced by Costel Pantilimon. The rumours are the Romanian goalkeeper will keep his place if he performs well tonight.
    • 18.55 Five changes from the weekend for the hosts tonight - Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is brought back in to the starting 11 following his one match suspension, Massadio Haidara, Vurnon Anita, Papiss Cisse and Shola Ameobi replace Paul Dummett, Davide Santon, Yohan Cabaye, Loic Remy and Hatem Ben Arfa.
    • 18.50 Teams: Newcastle United - Krul; Debuchy, Williamson, Yanga-Mbiwa, Haidara; Sissoko, Tiote (c), Anita, Gouffran; Shola Ameobi, Cisse. /// Man City: Pantilimon ; Richards, Boyata, Lescott, Kolarov; Rodwell, Garcia, Navas; Milner, Jovetic, Dzeko.
    • 18.47 To get involved with tonight's commentary, Tweet me @DarrenBeatz. I want to know your predictions - will Newcastle bounce back after suffering derby day defeat or will Man City take their frustrations out on Alan Pardew's side after Sunday's defeat to Chelsea?

  1. poor game, losing jovetic early did not help, newcastle looked more likely to score than we did until silva came on, 2 well taken goals in the end but why do we have to rely on the magic man before we look dangerous, glad to see boyata back, just hope kompany comes back ASAP, the pantman did well i hope he can put pressure on joe so he starts to perform to the level we all know he can, reality is that last night the result was all that mattered, need an improvement for weekend against norwich, if we get it i'm right thinking 4-0 aguero first goal.

  7. Well no change there then. Same old story "every season". Players and manager talk the talk and then do............................."nothing". Cisse another waste. Too many foreign players, far to many, and Pardew has had enough chances, but I can`t see the fat geezer getting rid of him, it`ll cost him too many `s. Chelsea are going to think it`s Christmas come early against this lot no matter who Pardew puts out. Clueless....................
