Winning there for the second time is going to be tough again.”
    • 19:05 Sunderland manager Gus Poyet believes that a good cup run can have a positive effect on the club's Premier League campaign: "If we want to get out of the relegation zone, we need to become winners, winning football games, and to become winners, we need to win the next one, so let's see if we can use it for that reason. It's important. It's a cup competition."

  1. Oh what a glorious score, not being a big fan of Sunderland myself, much prefer Newcastle (blame the husband), but I have to say, it was great to see the score - the special one isn't so special now - bless his little cotton socks, perhaps the new hairstyle has reduced his powers - rather like Samson and Delia ?

  2. one minute he is telling us Chelsea can't win the prem, then they win the next game, then he tell's us winning the league cup will be the spring board they need to push on, and they lose to sunderland.special one my #$%$!!!

  3. I did not see the match but I just noiced that Chelsea goal was a Sunderland (o.g.) Amazing Chelsea has the best strikers of the Premiership if not the Whole best Team and they did even manage to score a goal.against the last team. This is a miracle that only the Special One can do.... Do not worry Chelsea Fans You are going to beat Arsenal Saturday. You see every match has his own story . It happens all the time You lose against a weak Team and then next time You win against the strongest one. You must have faith in the he Special One He does very interesting misteriuos miracles all the time...

  4. I bet anyone any money that Sunderland will win the League cup, and do a Birmingham/Wigan. That being reach the finals of the League cup, win it like Birmingham beat Arsenal in the League cup final two years back, and Wigan beat Manchester City in the FA cup final just last season, and still get relegated to the Championship. I betcha any money that will happen this season. Sunderland will reach the finals, win the cup, and still get relegated to the Championship.

  5. Comment 99 what about Inter Milan. The first and only italian team to win the treble. No matter what that will always be in the history books. The ones slagging him off are the same type of fans in Manchester who want rid of Moyes!!!! You probably think Guardialio is doing a great job at Munich.!!!! A great team already he's just taken it over.

  6. I know Chelski. You never wanted to win the League Cup anyway, did you?

  8. not having seen the game, but following the text summary there are surprisingly disappointing substitutions. Schurrle seemed to be Chelsea's best outlet so why sub him? When Hazard came on he did nothing. Essien also seems to be a shadow of his former self. Chelsea seem to be only strong in midfield, so unless form changes I can see a clear out in January

From Mark A, on Wed 18 Dec 0:08
  9. Well done indeed, you Cats. You got among the Happy 1's pigeons and gave them a deserved roasting.

  10. When Lampard is on the pitch, Chelsea always play poorly. Does JM not understand that simple equation?

  13. Mourhino is no special one - and that's coming from a Chelsea supporter of 25 years . A Alex Ferguson he aint . The man is poisonous , and hes no longer up to the job . Go and do a Villas Boas Mourinho, , Bring back Benitez ., he was on the verge of great success . Mourinhos bullying of Mata is complete madness . Well done Sunderland , you deserved to win . As for Arsenal Fans they got nothing to worry about . Chelsea will not even be runners up at the end of the season . Mourhino should be sacked - even poor old Moyes could do a better job .

From Fletcher, on Tue 17 Dec 22:41
  14. Good lesson there for Mourinho, Chelsea has to loose such matches for Mourinho to realise his folly in playing politics with the Mata situation.

  15. i just want ask football fan who did good job mourinho? or banitaz ? well done banitaz congratulation you did good job.

From Mirela, on Tue 17 Dec 22:35
  16. No excuses, Chelsea were terrible! Ba looks like a Championship striker, he has no balance, can't hold up play and makes Bendtner look good. Debruyne can't shoot, Essien is too slow nowadays and Cole looks half the player he used to be. Sunderland were efficient, concentrated and passed well. I know Mourinho will be more worried about the Arsenal game and so he should, but he can't play Essien, Ba or Mikel. They are too slow. I think a midfielder is needed even more than a striker but one thing is for certain, Chelsea are more like a crab going sideways and the last pass id always the worst. This isn't good enough and Jose knows it. He needs to work some magic or pray hard.

From charles, on Tue 17 Dec 22:34
  17. As Chelsea fan, it is time that Mourinho tries to think again with his style. If during his first spell he's tried to encourage players now he's bringing the opposite. The fact not to play Mata who was Chelsea top player during 2 seasons without reasonable reasons, Mourinho won't be succeed and I amn't hoping Chelsea can win a trophy this year.

From Charles, on Tue 17 Dec 22:33
  18. is that the special one?how can he see is goingto beat arsenal, big mistake Chelsea should keep benitaz is much better.

From Hichem, on Tue 17 Dec 22:33
  19. A pretty average game by two uninteresting teams. The first half was not too bad but, the 2nd half just got worse. Chelsea had no idea what to do when they got into the Sunderland penalty area (their goal aside) and Sunderland gave the ball away so many times you would think it had a virus. Extra time was not much to talk about until the defensive mistake which led to a rare Sunderland goal. One match best forgotten in a hurry. But have to say, congrats to the Cats.

From Gallowgate, on Tue 17 Dec 22:32
  20. Congratulations to Sunderland. Good and deserved win. Once again, our players failed to take their chances. I hope people don't blame Mourinho for not playing Mata because this was a full squad for us. Our players just didn't capitalized on their chances. Kevin Debryne always complaining of not having game time, well, today was a chance for him to prove himself, but he didn't. I don't think we should blame Mourinho for today's lost because our players, in particular, Eto'o had the chance of putting the game to the bed , but he failed. So,people should not blame Mourinho, and well done to Sunderland.
