    Time:90'
    • Aston Villa
    • Blackburn Rovers
    • 17:00 Great for Blackburn - they finish in the top half in tenth position. One consolation for Villa is that Liverpool's goalless draw at Hull means they don't drop any positions, and finish a creditable sixth.
    • 90+3' There's the final whistle. Villa can't do anything in the three minutes of stoppage time, and that's the end of the season.
    • 89' Villa are raining high balls in on the Blackburn area now, and the visitors must be thankful for the aerial prowess of Chris Samba, who heads another cross clear.
    • 87' Milner smacks a volley goalwards, and Robinson once again shows his class to keep his side ahead!!! Hoilett may be hailed as the matchwinner, but Robinson has been superb today.
    • 83' GOAL!!! Blackburn have the lead inside the final ten minutes!!! Olsson's fine cross picked out Hoilett inside the area, and the Blackburn man headed home past Friedel. Or did he? Replays show it might actually have been his marker, Richard Dunne, who got the vital touch.
    • 78' Delfouneso on for Agbonlahor.
    • 75' Emile Heskey is on for John Carew, who goes off to a standing ovation from the Villa fans.
    • 74 Very clumsy tackle from Samba on Carew in the area...that one should be a penalty...no! Another strange decision - that one looked almost as clear-cut as the Blackburn decision down at the other end earlier.
    • 73' What a chance for Collins!! The centre-back shows exactly why he is a centre back, missing the ball totally when a set piece found him straight in front of goal!
    • 70' Salgado surges down the right wing, only to put his cross into the side-netting. We haven't had any goals yet, but it's been quite entertaining nonetheless.
    • 65' Fine 'keeping from Robinson to punch clear Downing's inswinging free-kick from the right, then Petrov fires into the side-netting from jut outside the area. Half of the Holte End thought that one was in. Downing's effort looked to be creeping in.
    • 61' An hour in, and Blackburn have just had their first shot on target. That statistic doesn't really do them justice in terms of how they have competed, but does say something about the effectiveness of the front line.
    • 58' Milner goes agonisingly close to putting West Ham ahead at the other end. The cross came in from the right, Agbonlahor got the feintest of touches to it, and Milner, racing in at the back poist, couldn't quite make up enough ground to get to the ball.
    • 56' Collins scythes down Dunn in the area...penalty surely...no! Incredible! And as if to add insult to injury, David Dunn is booked for diving too!! Quite understandably, the Blackburn man is furious!
    • 52' Petrov lines one up from just outside the area...poor effort. The Bulgarian didn't get hold of the shot properly.
    • 50' Ooh - that's a bit harsh. Pedersen swings a free-kick deep into the Villa area, which causes panis amongst the Villa defence, Roberts gets his head to it, though the referee blows for a foul. I couldn't see anything wrong in there.
    • 46' We're underway in the second half at Villa Park. Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce has made one change, throwing on Morten Gamst Pedersen in place of debutant Amine Linganzi.
    • 45+2' There's the half-time whistle. Goalless so far, and a very even first half. Villa started the better, but since then Blackburn have come right back into it.
    • 45' The fleet-footed is brought down by a somewhat agricultral challenge from David Dunn. Milner bangs the free-kick goalwards...and Robinson is forced into a fine save low to his left!
    • 43' Robinson spills a tame shot right into the path of Agbonlahor, and he has to be back on his feet in double-quick time to push the rebound out for a corner!!
    • 41' Stephen Warnock's afternoon is over. He is trudging off injured, and is replaced by Luke Young.
    • 37' Fine defending from Richard Dunne to ease Roberts off the ball and clear another Blackburn attack. Roberts is a pretty big guy himself, so no mean feat, that. Blackburn are enjoying their best period of the game so far now, and Martin O'Neill is looking increasingly frustrated on the touchline.
    • 32' Hanley in the thick of the action at the other end now as he heads just wide now from Dunn's corner. He just didn't get enough purchase on the header! That was Blackburn's best chance of the afternoon so far.
    • 29' Downing is now receiving treatment on the touchline following a clash of heads with Michel Salgado. He should be fine to resumt, though.
    • 26' Fine work from Young to set up a chance for Carew...splendid tackle from Hanley!!! I thought we were going to have the opening goal there.
    • 20' Blackburn have improved after coming under some heavy pressure from Villa in the opening stages. The visitors are certainly looking more solid defensively.
    • 16' Sarcastic cheers from the Villa fans as Martin Olsson sends a wayward effort into the Holte End. Andrews wasn't happy about that speculative effort - he wanted the ball laid off, and he's making sure Olsson knows exactly how he feels. A heated moment between the pair there.
    • 13' Lovely through ball fro Milner with the outside of his right foot sets John Carew free down the left channel for Villa, but his pull-back is far too close to Robinson, who is down quickly to claim.
    • 9' David Dunn now fires wide for the visitors in their first chance of the match. Dunn's corner arrived back at his feet, though he pulled the shot wide of the near post.
    • 6' Paul Robinson to the rescue for Blacburn as Villa almsot make their pressure count!!! Ashley Young drifted a pinpoint ball into the centre of the Blackburn area from a corner, and Robinson had to react quickly to parry James Collins' close range header!!
    • 4' It's Villa who are doing most of the pressing so far. Downing now receives the ball wide on the left, but elects not to go down the outside of his man. This game could still ba a big one for him in terms of securing that spot on the plane South Africa. Man City's Adam Johnson is on a fine run of form too.
    • 2' John Carew picks up the ball and charges towards goal, but manages to trip over his own feet and send himself flying.
    • 1' Blackburn get the first half underway!
    • 15:55 The players are walking out onto the pitch and we're almost ready to go here at Villa Park.
    • 15:45 That's some statistic - Villa are unchanged for the sixth match in succession. They can also make it nine in a row unbeaten at Villa Park is they avoid defeat today. Unfortunately, of the previous eight matches, six have resulted in draws. That stastic there tells you why Villa are playing Europa League football next season, rather than Champions League.
    • 15:40 Today's man in the middle is Steve Bennett.
    • 15:30 Blackburn Rovers team: Robinson, Salgado, Samba, Hanley, Givet, Hoilett, Linganzi, Andrews, Dunn, Olsson, Roberts. Substitutes: Brown, Jacobsen, Emerton, Grella, Pedersen, Kalinic, Jones.
    • 15:30 Aston Villa team: Friedel, Cuellar, Collins, Dunne, Warnock, Ashley Young, Milner, Petrov, Downing, Carew, Agbonlahor. Substitutes: Guzan, Luke Young, Sidwell, Delfouneso, Heskey, Reo-Coker, Beye.
    • - Qualification for the Europa League is already sealed for Villa then, while mid-table mediocrity is already Blackburn's situation. Though they were obviously disappointed to miss out on that Champions League qualifying spot, Villa fans would take a reasonable amount of pride were their team to finish above Liverpool.
    • - The best position Villa could finish in is 5th (that would happen if they win and Man City lose), while the worst they could finish is seventh (if they lose and Liverpool win). As for Blackburn, the best position they could realistically finish in is 10th (if they win and Stoke don't), while the worst they could do is 13th (if they lose and Fulham and Sunderland win).
