    Time:90'
    • Aston Villa
    • Birmingham City
    • 90+4 The referee finally calls time in this interminable draw and both sides will take a point which is pretty much all they deserve in all honesty
    • 90' Bannann brings down Jerome, handing Birmingham their best chance in ages as they enjoy a free kick in the centre of the park. But Zigic's header goes well past the left post and still the two sides are looking for a goal
    • 88' Young works his way into the box from the right as Ridgewell backs off and unleashes a powerful shot towards the top right hand corner. But it was a tough angle and came off the upright to go behind for a goal kick
    • 84' Villa, unfairly, look the more likely to score now as Carew heads on for Clark at the penalty spot. Foster just gets there first to punch the ball away and he catches Clark in the follow-through leaving the Villa midfielder with a bloody nose, albeit accidentally
    • 83' A cheer goes up from the Villa fans as Carew is brought on in place of Reo-Coker, Houllier obviously deciding his skipper is sailing periously close to a red card as his frustration increases
    • 80' Bannan flings a rasping shot towards the left hand post from around 25 yards out. But Foster had plenty of time to see the ball and make no mistake as he parries it away before it is cleared
    • 78' Frustrations are beginning to get the better of some of the players as Reo-Coker is involved in another brawl, this time with Ferguson. It's something and nothing really as Reo-Coker goes to ground and then tries to win back the ball whilst still down. Ferguson takes exception to it though and other players get involved before Reo-Coker is shown a yellow
    • 76' Jerome runs after a high ball lobbed upfield but Friedel comes forward to collect in a slide towards the ball and the substitute fails to get a touch to the ball
    • 72' Cameron Jerome comes on for Hleb, another player who ahs been largely annonymous apart from winning that free kick just before the interval that resulted in the best chance of the day
    • 70' A SPOT OF EXCITEMENT! FINALLY! Young races down the right wing before lofting a high cross over towards the far post. It should be easy for Foster to gather but somehow he makes a mess of it under a little pressure from Reo-Coker and drops the ball. Luckily for Birmingham, Johnson is there to clear but Foster has looked incredibly dodgy today, if only Villa could have got the ball in the box more frequently!
    • 65' When play finally gets back underway, Larsson finds Zigic to the right of the penalty spot. But again the final shot is a poor one and the striker's header is straight into the waiting hands of Friedel
    • 62' There's a long delay as Johnsson receives treatment to his right shin before being helped off the pitch by medical staff. He's not even walking with a limp and its no wonder Villa fans are getting frustrated by the break - there was no need for that treatment to be conducted on the pitch whatsoever
    • 59' The first substitution of the match sees Barry Bannan brought on for Steve Sidwell in midfield. The former Reading man has been largely annonymous today and has contributed little to the match
    • 58' Heskey's famed striking ability comes to the fore again as he misses a easy header from the penalty area. The former England striker should have at least forced a save from Foster and yet he sent the ball wide of the right post
    • 55' Clearly as sick of this toothless play as the rest of us, Reo-Coker decides to try his luck from a long way out, slamming the ball angrily goal-wards. And it almost pays off as well when Foster fails to safely collect the ball first time around and has to scramble around on the floor to collect it as it bounces off his chest
    • 52' Gardiner tries a long-range solo attempt, from around 35 yards out, but his shot is low and heading a little wide and Friedel has little trouble in diving on the the ball to secure a goal kick
    • 49' Pretty much the biggest cheer of the afternoon has just occured as a fan attempts a header and falls over the hoardings in the process. He is escorted out of the stadium as a result but at least that was a spot of action for the fans to enjoy!
    • 47' Fahey makes a solid start to the half for Birmingham as he steps inside and fires a long ball goalward from right to left. But there isn't that much power behind the shot in the end and Friedel is able to easily collect
    • 46' Birmingham get the second half underway as they look to continue the pressure they built-up again towards the end of the first half
    • 45+3 Larsson's corner is punched away by Friedel and that'll be that for a first half which, apart from a couple of chances an either end, has been surprisingly low key
    • 45+2 WHAT A HEADER FROM WARNOCK! The Villa man more than makes up for giving away the free kick as his glancing header takes an inch-perfect free kick away from the fast-approaching Johnson and Dann at the far post. Either of them only had to make the slightest of contact with the ball and that would have been an almost certain goal
    • 45+1 Hleb goes down very easily after Warnock catches him on the toe and in a challenge and it not only earns Birmingham a free-kick 40 metres out on the right but also sees the Villa midfielder go into the book
    • 43' Larsson produces yet another cross from the right into the area but once again there is no-one waiting for Birmingham and Dunne has absolutely heaps of time to clear without a challenge
    • 40' Zigic finds himself going into the book as he leads with the elbow when going in to challenge for a high ball with James Collins. And if he's not careful the Blues striker could find himself in more trouble as he continues to argue, prompting a second talking to from referee Howard Webb
    • 37' Villa escape yet again though as Birmingham find all three of their target men bunched at the far post competing with each to get up for the high ball - none of them actually achieving their aim as they all bump into each other!
    • 36' Reo-Coker gets back to block a cross from Carr on the right wing again but the ball goes behind for a corner off his back and Birmingham will have another chance
    • 33' Birmingham are enjoying a spell of renewed possession as first Larsson finds Fahey, who shoots on the turn before seeing his effort saved by Friedel. The Villa defenders manage to cut out another couple of cross from Larsson and eventually they manage to clear the danger. They are not looking confident at the back though and Larsson is running rings round them on the right
    • 30' Foster almost makes a catostrophic error as he fails to spot Reo-Coker baring down on him and has to think fast and switch feet to stop the Villa skipper from pinching the ball and tapping it into the back of the net a la Nani in yesterday's 2-0 win for United against Spurs
    • 28' Scrappy is the only word that can be used to describe this match right now. It's typical derby fare with neither side being able to get together any kind of possession or chances as Sidwell fouls Ferguson in midfield resulting in yet more open play
    • 25' Heskey bangs heads with Dann, accidentally it should be added, and needs a spot of treatment and a few sips of water just for good measure before he feels he can continue the match. No worries there though, he will continue
    • 22' Most of Villa's action is taking place on the right wing as Young continues to cause problems. And now he wins the home side a free kick. But Downing overhits his cross and it is easily caught by Ben Foster
    • 18' Young breaks down the right wing after being put in by Downing but he is pulled up after being judged to have unfairly bundled over Sebastian Larsson so the move breaks down
    • 15' Fahey stills his leg out speculatively as a cross sails over his head but he makes an unexpectedly strong connection with the ball and Friedel is called into action to make a save, albeit as the ball flies towards his head
    • 13' After the intial excitement of the opening 10 minutes, this is settling into a bit of a scrappy midfield clash right now with neither side having had anything even vaguely resermbling a chance for the last five minutes or so
    • 11' Things are getting a bit spicy now as Gardiner and Reo-Coker clash in midfielder. The Villa skipper takes exception to an admittedly late challenge from Gardiner and gets right up in the Birmingham midfielder's face to let him know exactly what he thinks. The players are separated by their team-mates and it ends with Gardiner being booked for the challenge
    • 8' Great chance for Heskey! Young feeds a ball right on to the penalty spot for the former England striker, who has made a run in from the left away from his man. But Heskey can't quite get the required toe-poke to the ball and it runs throught for Foster to collect without too much trouble
    • 6' Birmingham have started the match well as Larsson's swinging corner finds Dann's at the far post. But the ball is just to high to be controlled and it driblles on past as Dann gets a nick on it. Friedel will finally get the chance to clear
    • 4' Gardiner mis-times his leap up for a header as he is sandwiched between the two Villa centre-backs. But the ball still falls kindly for Zigic as he tries to volley the ball goalward. He's on target too but those pesky centre-backs are still in the way and the shot is blocked
    • 2' Young immediately makes inroads down the right wing and nearly finds Reo-Coker in the box at the near post but Carr just gets there first and cuts out the danger
    • 1' Right then, Aston Villa get the derby underway playing right to left at Villa Park ...
    • 11:58 Birmingham on the other hand have not kept a clean sheet in their last 13 PL away matches since a 1-0 win at Stoke City in December 2009. They are the only PL club without an away clean sheet in 2010 who featured in both PL seasons during this year.
    • 11:58 Villa have conceded only one PL goal at Villa Park this season – only Chelsea (0) have conceded fewer home goals in the division.

    • 11:50 Villa manager Gerard Houllier won his last two PL matches against Birmingham. His only defeat in all four PL meetings was Liverpool’s 2-1 loss at St Andrews in February 2003.
