    • 50' Walcott turns in the box and his low cross ricochets off a defender and Mignolet has to palm it clear! No slice of fortune for the Gunners there, who have to make do with a corner.
    • 49' Turner appears to have put in a goodd tackle on Van Perise at the byline, but the officials give a goal kick.

    • 29' Sunderland send plenty of men forward for a free-kick. Elmohamady sends it in from deep, and anfter a bout of head tennis they win another within shooting distance. Larsson and Richardson will both fancy this...
    • 28' Arsenal may be playing better than they have all season, and Sunderland perhaps as badly, but it is still only 1-0. Moments like that will give Sunderland hope.
    • 27' Sessegnon beats the offside trap down the left and Szczesny rushes off his line. Sessegnon goes past the keeper but his cut-back into the area is intercepted by Song. The Arsenal midfielder plays the ball to Szczesny, who picks it up, but the referee rules it was not a backpass.
    • 26' A promising Arsenal attack is pulled up for offside against Alex Song, who is wearing short sleeves and gloves on this crisp autumn afternoon.
    • 25' Looks like Vaughan's wound came after an innocuous brush of the hand from Van Persie.

    • 19' Michael Turner fouls Gervinho. It's about 35 yards out, but Van Persie looks as though he fancies the shot...
    • 18' Van Persie is really on one today. He bamboozles the defenders with another great turn, only this time he is crowded out.
    • 17' Elmohamady hoists a high ball into the box, but Mertesacker heads it away from danger.
    • 16' Sunderland's problems are not only in defence. They can barely string two passes together at the moment.
    • 14' Van Persie bearing down on goal again and he strikes fromt he edge of the box... The shot flies wide! Sunderland all at sea here.
    • 13' Tamer Elewa says on Twitter: "I'm hoping park gets to actually play today". Me too. Arsenal need to get the most out of him before he has to do his national service in Korea in two year's time. Park 'must leave Arsenal in two years'
    • 12' VAN PERSIE HITS THE POST!! The Dutchman turns Kieran Richardson with ease on the edge of the box and he chips an exquisite lob over Mignolet's head, but it comes back off the far post! Shades of Eric Cantona's famous chipped effort there. What a goal it would have been.
    • 11' Elmohamady makes a smart run to the near post, but he goes for goal rather than flick the corner on, and it's a goal kick to Arsenal.
    • 10' The second ball from the Arsenal corner leads to Walcott glancing a header on target, but it's an easy claim for Mignolet. The Belgian keeper boots the ball up for Sessegnon, who wins Sunderland their first corner.
    • 9' Quick feet inside the Sunderland box from Gervinho. He tries to pick out Gibbs with a low cross but Wes Brown gets there first. Corner to Sunderland.
    • 8' Mikel Arteta's delivery is missed by everyone in the box, and Sunderland clear the second ball as it comes in from Walcott.
    • 7' Arsenal now dictating the play in midfield. Neat interplay between Gervinho and Theo Walcott, who is impeded. Per Mertesacker comes forward for the free-kick.
    • 5' Not much going on since that opener. Sunderland trying to isolate Kieron Gibbs against Ahmed Elmohamady.
    • 4' Van Persie's goal is the fastest in the Premier League so far this season, beating Norwich’s Anthony Pilkington’s strike after 49 seconds yesterday.
    • 3' Some great shots of bemused looking Arsenal fans who are still taking their seats after Van Perise's early opener. Sunderland already given a touch task.

    • 1' Sunderland kick off and we're underway!
    • 13:27 The two teams make their way on to the Emirates pitch. We'll be underway once the obligatory handshakes are done with and the coin is tossed. • 13:24 Today's referee at the Emirates is Howard Webb. The Rotherham official sent off Sunderland's Phil Bardsley in the Wear-Tyne derby win for Newcastle back in August, and was also in the middle for Arsenal's 8-2 mauling at Old Trafford the following weekend, when he gave Jenkinson his marching orders. Not a good omen for either side, then.
    • 13:22 A nice bit of nostalgia courtesy of Infostrada: Steve Bruce was the Sheffield United manager who threatened to take his team off against Arsenal in an FA Cup fifth round match in 1999 after the Gunners infamously broke an unwritten rule and scored from a throw-in which should have been sportingly thrown back to the opposition, resulting in a 2-1 win at Highbury. Arsene Wenger offered the match to be replayed and Arsenal won 2-1 again.
    • 13:19 Head-to-head: Of the 128 previous league meetings between these two sides, Arsenal have won 47, Sunderland 44. Both league meetings last season were drawn – 1-1 at the Stadium of Light and 0-0 at the Emirates. Sunderland have failed to score in their last three league visits to the Emirates. They have not won in their last 12 league visits in total since a 2-1 victory at Highbury in November 1983.
    • 13:16 Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes he can build his new-look defence around Per Mertesacker: "He is a little bit like that (Tony Adams). Not the quickest but he uses his brain well. Mertesacker is getting stronger in every single game. He is getting more aggressive. I like him personally. He's a very intelligent player and will be a big asset for us. I think Mertesacker can be a talker. Trust the Germans, he is a fighter."
    • 13:12 The Black Cats are hovering above the relegation zone, and they have won just one of their seven league games thus far, but Bruce remains defiant: "I think a lot of the criticism has been unjust and unfair. But that is what the North East is. We lost against Newcastle and that is where it started. And I haven’t been able to quell the fire because the results haven’t been there for us. But we must have done something right last season becuase we finished 10th."
    • 13:08 Despite haivng Ji Dong-Won and Connor Wickham on the bench, Sunderland manager Steve Bruce starts with nominal midfielder Stephane Sessegnon as the man leading the line. How Bruce must miss the departed Asamoah Gyan. Former Arsenal midfielder Sebastian Larsson also starts. Sunderland team page
    • 13:05 So Arsenal have centre-back Laurent Koscielny back in the side following the injury that ruled him out of the defeat at Tottenham, meaning Alex Song can move back up into midfield. Carl Jenkinson replaces the injured Sagna at right-back. Young tyro Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is not in the matchday squad. Arsenal team page
    • 13:00 Arsenal: Szczesny, Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs, Song, Arteta, Rosicky, Walcott, Gervinho, Van Persie. Subs: Fabianski, Andre Santos, Djourou, Frimpong, Arshavin, Benayoun, Park /// Sunderland: Mignolet, O'Shea, Richardson, Turner, Brown, Elmohamady, Larsson, Cattermole, Colback, Vaughan, Sessegnon. Subs: Gardner, Dong-won, Meyler, Westwood, Wickham, McClean, Laing.
    • 12:55 We are still awaiting offical confirmation of the teams, but we already know that Bacary Sagna's ankle injury sustained against Tottenham means he has joined Jack Wilshere, Abou Diaby and Thomas Vermaelenon on the injury list for Arsenal. For Sunderland, striker Nicklas Bendtner is unavailable under the terms of his loan from the Gunners, Phil Bardsley and Titus Bramble are both suspended while Craig Gordon and Fraizer Campbell remain long-term absentees.
    • 12:50 It has been a pretty miserable start to the season for both these sides, and they each go into this match sitting bottom six of the table. Wins for either side would send them up to the dizzy heights of 10th. Premier League table
