    • 90+4' FULL-TIME! Villa seal what was ultimately a comfortable win. Some dazzling play in the first half, less so in the second - but they had already established a cushion by that stage. Alex McLeish applauded off after delivering victory in his first game at Villa Park. Problems for Blackburn - they've lost their first two games of the campaign.
    • 90+3' Belting hit from Olsson on his left foot - but it was a long way out. It's just a touch too high, and lands on the netting of the goal.
    • 90+2' Rash challenge from Bannan gives away a free-kick around 30 yards out.
    • 90+1' Blackburn are camped out on the edge of the Villa penalty area here, but the hosts containing them well enough.
    • 90' Formica this time tries a shot from distance when the ball breaks his way - but it's well over the bar. Four minutes of added time are scheduled.
    • 89' Formica steps up to take a corner - it's lofted high and deep, where Nelsen gathers. He attempts a shot, but it's blocked.
    • 87' Good cross from Salgado causes tremors in the Villa defence, but eventually Albrighton takes control on the far side and clears the ball away.
    • 86' Goal-kick for the home side as another Blackburn move fizzles out - Collins takes it and heaves the ball upfield.
    • 85' McLeish looks far from being at ease on the bench, but he must be pleased with the scoreline and performance today. He's a man whose face rarely betrays joy, though.
    • 84' Salgado and Dunn collide going for the ball - and of the two team-mates Dunn comes off worse. Looks as if he'll be alright once he's had that magic trudge to the sideline and comes back on...
    • 83' Danger in the Blackburn box! A good corner from N'Zogbia and Robinson has to lift it away from the waiting Villa shirts with a fingertip touch.
    • 82' Petrovic has his first shot in the Premier League - a long-range hit from 25 yards. It's high and harmless.
    • 81' Hoilett tries a shot through a crowded penalty area, but it doesn't test Given.
    • 80' Yellow for Petrov, who's seething at that decision. But he body-checked Formica, and the fact that he came off worse, going to ground, was ultimately irrelevant.
    • 79' Hoilett and Formica link, but the latter's ball down the line for Salgado is overhit, and N'Zogbia does his defensive duties well.
    • 78' And no sooner do I say that than N'Zogbia teases his way down the byline and puts in a threatening cross, which Blackburn scramble clear.
    • 77' Disappointing delivery from the French midfielder - behind the men waiting in the box. He's had a quiet second half.
    • 76' Another dangerous set-piece opportunity for the hosts, N'Zogbia insists on taking it.
    • 75' They are - Blackburn change Formica for Roberts, while Petrovic is on for Pedersen.
    • 75' Looks as if Rovers are eyeing up a double-change.
    • 74' Goodwillie applies pressure on Clark in the home side's defence, but Clark stands up well to it, and is awarded a free-kick.
    • 73' Salgado ends a promising Villa move, but the flow of the game has change dnow - Villa back in control.
    • 71' Another decent left-footed delivery from the young Scot Bannan, but Ciaran Clark is penalised for jostling with the two centre-halves to get a header on goal.
    • 71' Cleared by Nelsen - but he has to give away a corner in the process.
    • 70' Free-kick for Villa in a useful position on the left. Bannan looks set to deliver.
    • 69' Darren Bent has now scored in the month of August in each of the last seven Premier League seasons – a total of 14 goals. No player has scored more in the month since the start of the 2005-06 season (he is two ahead of Didier Drogba on 12 goals). (Infostrada)
    • 68' That might just have killed the Blackburn comeback - a goal from nothing, and perhaps even against the run of play, but Bent's instincts didn't let him down.
    • 67' BENT MAKES IT 3-1! Petrov has a shot from distance which Hanley only half blocks - it's straight into Bent's path, and he pounces.
    • 67' Final Villa change - Bannan on for Heskey.
    • 66' Salgado wins a ball and drives forward, though his pass isn't ideal for Hoilett. The winger does enough and lays it in to Roberts, but he is muscled out of getting a shot away.
    • 65' Two chances for Albrighton to get the cross in, but twice they're cleared away. Blackburn a different team in the second half.
    • 64' Hoilett comes more central, before laying the ball off deeper. Collins makes another diving clearance, and there's plenty of space for the home side to break.
    • 63' ALBRIGHTON CLOSE! He surprised everyone with that shot from distance. Afforded space, he carried on, and his low drive was much nearer to sneaking in at the far post than it first appeared.
    • 62' Chase for Roberts down the right for Blackburn - but Dunne does a good job of tidying it up and clearing.
    • 61' Delph felled, and it's Dunn who's responsible once again. Lots of little niggling fouls from the Blackburn midfielder, but Attwell keeps the cards in his pocket.
    • 60' Great defensive play from Collins - who makes a full-strech diving block to cut off a teasing through ball for Roberts, and is back on his feet in time to clear it.
    • 59' Villa just need to regroup a bit here - that goal has caught them off their guard. They're still in front.
    • 58' Yellow for Delph - who goes into a challenge with studs showing. He can't really complain.
    • 57' Hoilett a little unlucky to be penalised there - he showed strength to hold off Warnock in the penalty area, but the referee sees it as a foul. He's exploded into life in the second half.
    • 57' Morten Gamst Pedersen scores his first Premier League goal in 2011. His last goals in the division also came against Aston Villa, netting twice in their 2-0 home victory in November 2010. (Infostrada)
    • 56' Second Villa change - Clark on for Luke Young.
    • 55' Villa pressing, but despite a couple of short, quick passes, they cannot negotiate a way past Hoilett. He picks up the ball and surges to halfway, where Heskey clumsily brings him down. First yellow of the match.
    • 54' HALF A CHANCE FOR VILLA! High ball forward from Collins, glanced on by Heskey, and Bent's touch lets him down at just the wrong moment. Had he controlled, he'd have had a point-blank one-on-one chance.
    • 53' Didn't see that coming, but Hoilett cannot be praised enough - had to beat two players and steady himself for the cross, and Blackburn have a lifeline now.
    • 52' GOAL FOR BLACKBURN! PEDERSEN HAS IT! It came from Hoilett's brilliance - he danced his way down the left, fashioned space for himself, and curled an appetising cross in which Pedersen nodded past Given from close range!
    • 50' Heskey loses out at the other end, competing for a ball by the corner flag. Blackburn have the throw.
    • 49' Heskey clears away a corner, but he didn't know much about where his header was going. Blackburn pushing forward, but still yet to show a cutting edge.
    • 48' Ball knocked out so Warnock can receive treatment - he came off worse jumping for the ball against Pedersen. Looks as if he'll be alright though.
    • 47' Blackburn have lost their last 19 Premier League away matches when two goals behind at half time, since a 2-2 draw at Bolton in August 2003. (Infostrada)
    • 46' The second half begins! Albrighton has replaced Agbonlahor, who was limping towards the end of the first period.
    • - Change for Villa - Albrighton is going to come on for the second half.
    • 45+2' HALF-TIME: And what a start for Alex McLeish at Villa Park! He's treated to warm applause from the Villa fans, who've enjoyed what they've seen so far. Some lovely flowing football and two very good goals to get into a commanding position. The game has simmered a bit since then, and Blackburn face a tough task to get back into it.
    • 45+1' Whoops - Olsson with a pass straight out of play. Villa have a throw near the halfway line on the right hand side.
    • 45' Two minutes of stoppages to be played - most of that down to that pause a couple of minutes ago.
    • 44' Again Villa clear the danger from the Norwegian's set piece delivery. Pedersen usually very effective from dead balls, but not so far this afternoon.
    • 43' Corner for Blackburn as Pedersen rides Delph's challenge and tries a cross from the byline which deflects out of play.
    • 42' Agbonlahor yet to quite run that off - he's moving gingerly, and will be glad for the interval.
    • 41' A slight pause in play too as Agbonlahor was also down. Villa have a free-kick when we resume. Steve Kean brings in a couple of players to the dugout for some instructions.
    • 40' Petrov on the ground as Dunn charges in. This might be the moment that referee Stuart Attwell loses patience with the Blackburn midfielder.
    • 39' AGBONLAHOR CLOSE! A good, floated cross from Luke Young is met by Agbonlahor at the far post, but he cannot leap high enough to stop the header looping high. Robinson pounces on the rebound, and the Villa man is adjudged to foul him as he competes for the ball.
    • 38' Hesley wins a header and gets Villa moving. They swing from the right to the left, but Warnock's cross is cleared.
    • 37' Roberts does well to control a ball froward from Olsson, but there's nobody to pass the ball to. Villa head upfield.
    • 36' Another breakneck counter from Villa, this time led by Agbonlahor. For all Blackburn's time in the opponent's half since the second goal, they look fragile defensively.
    • 35' Nzonzi thinks better of having a shy from 35 yards and lays the ball off to Salgado. But there's no way through for Rovers.
    • 34' Delph makes a great tackle to stop a Villa move, and suddenly the home side are on a scorching counter attack. Heskey robbed of the ball just as he was teeing up a shot.
    • 33' Just a bit more adventure from Rovers since they conceded the second goal, but their best chance was the one that Goodwillie fired over. Missing a killer ball, and the Villa defence looking robust.
    • 32' Dunne has made several key interceptions and blocks already, and he's in with another one here to stop Pedersen latching on to a through ball down the right hand side.
    • 31' How about this for a Heskey stat? Emile Heskey scored his 110th Premier League goal and his eighth against Blackburn – more against them than any other club he has faced. Only Nicolas Anelka (12) and Michael Owen (9) have scored more goals against Blackburn than Heskey (8) in Premier League history (Infostrada)
    • 30' Shot from Dunn which Given is unsighted for - but it's straight and low, and the Irish stopper gets down well to save.
    • 29' N'Zogbia makes a run down the right, plays a one-two off the unwitting Olsson, and suddenly bolts upfield and only just overhits a pass which would have played in Bent.
    • 28' The ball breaks for Pedersen on the right side of the area for Blackburn - but just as he threatens to get the ball back into a dangerous area, Dunne surges in with a block. Throw by the byline for the visitors.
    • 27' Blackburn have been disappointing, but Alex McLeish couldn't have asked for a better start to win the fans' favour. Villa playing very well indeed.
    • 26' Nothing more than Aston Villa deserve - they've been a cut above so far - but Heskey should take credit for a classy low finish.
    • 25' GOAL! IT'S HESKEY! Delph's ball just about gets to Agbonlahor, who holds the ball up, slides it across and it's a smart finish from Heskey just outside the area!
    • 23' Given will take the goal kick after the corner chance fizzles out.
    • 22' CHANCE FOR NZONZI! And he might have done better after skipping past Dunne into space - Warnock held him up, but the shot was deflected by Dunne, who recovered well. Corner for the visitors.
    • 21' Agbonlahor fancies himself with his right foot today - he tries another curler, this time from nearly 30 yards out. Nice shape, but not enough power, and Robinson shuffles across to save.
    • 20' The scale of the task facing Blackburn: It is over two years since Blackburn came from behind to win a Premier League away match – a 2-1 victory at Fulham in March 2009 (Infostrada)
    • 19' Space for Salgado from nowhere to put in a good ball - it's overhit, but mopped up on the right and sent back in by Hoilett - and GOODWILLIE IS CLOSE with a thumping strike which goes just over the bar.
    • 18' Villa moving really well - there's always an option for the man on the ball. Funn breaks up a move - but has to give away a foul to do so.
    • 17' Stuart Attwell taking a bit of time to sort this one out - and he settles for talking to the pair rather than showing any cards. Throw-in for Villa, which Blackburn repel.
    • 17' Possession 60-40% in Villa's favour so far, the official stats show - they're looking ever-more dangerous, and the home fans enjoying what they're seeing. Stop in play as Dunn and Young collide.
    • 16' Gabriel Agbonlahor scores his 50th PL goal for Aston Villa – only Dwight Yorke (60) has scored more for the club in the division (Infostrada)
    • 15' N'Zogbia takes the corner himself - Collins makes a ludicrous mid-air lunge, studs first, for the ball. Free-kick for the visitors.
    • 14' N'Zogbia teases his way into the box before running out of support, but he seems to be playing a roaming role at the moment and could worry the Rovers defence. Corner for the home side.
    • 13' Well, that's made Blackburn's job much harder. Agbonlahor won't score many better this season - and Villa are back on the ball.
    • 12' GOAL! GREAT FINISH FROM AGBONLAHOR! He swapped passes with Bent on the left wing, and from a tricky angle curled a shot right-footed into the corner past Robinson. Terrific opener!
    • 12' Teasing cross in from Hoilett, but Villa not only clear it, but they break at good pace.
    • 11' Nelsen in trouble there! He almost lets Bent in after a communication breakdown between the captain and his keeper Paul Robinson - angry words between the two.
    • 10' Dunne pops up for the corner, but his volley sails high over the crossbar.
    • 9' Decent move from the home side - they wait for an opening and the ball is chipped through towards Bent. He's well-marshalled, but wins a corner.
    • 8' An early (and perhaps unwanted) record - 35-year-old Blackburn defender Michel Salgado is the oldest outfield player to feature in the division so far this season. (Opta)
    • 7' Nzonzi beats the offside trap, but is given an overhit ball to chase to the byline. Unsurprisingly, he doesn't get there first.
    • 6' Roberts muscled off a header by Collins, and though Blackburn are pressing, the hosts are quite happy to pass their way out of defence.
    • 5' Bent just caught a fraction offside as Villa press forward. Blackburn's trap working well as the back four step up.
    • 4' Filthy ball from Warnock crossfield from the left - to nobody particular, and out for a throw. He's got a chance to get back into the reckoning after being marginalised during Houllier's reign.
    • 3' Sedate opening from the home side, who look quite happy to stroke the ball around the back four.
    • 2' Rovers upfield early, but Villa clear the danger for a throw.
    • 1' We begin at Villa Park!
    • 14:58 The referee for this game is Stuart Attwell.
    • 14:56 So who are you tipping today? A good crowd in for this 3pm clash, as always at Villa Park.
    • 14:55 Emile Heskey has a big future at Villa and McLeish says it would be crazy to get rid of him. He starts today for Villa - what do you think, Villa fans? Get in touch, either by leaving me a comment below, or by following me, Mark Patterson, on Twitter here
    • 14:50 DON'T TAKE YOUR EYES OFF BLACKBURN MIDWAY THROUGH THE FIRST HALF: There have been five goals scored between the 20th and 22nd minutes in Blackburn’s last five games, four of them netted by Rovers. (Opta)
    • 14:45 MCLEISH FACT: The Scottish manager has failed to win any of his last seven Premier League matches, winning a total of five of his 21 Premier League matches in 2011. (Infostrada)
    • 14:40 HEAD-TO-HEAD: Villa and Blackburn have met 10 times in competition in the last three seasons. Villa have the better of it - winning six of the last eight matches - and that doesn't include the HK friendly. (Infostrada)
    • 14:35 And Arsenal are headed for defeat at home to Liverpool - follow the last moments here.
    • 14:30 A reminder - there's plenty of action already in the Premier League - including a derby between Newcastle and Sunderland. The result
    • 14:25 BLACKBURN: Petrovic was tipped for a start by some, but it's the substitutes' bench for him. Goodwillie gets the nod up front with Roberts as Blackburn look to bounce back from an opening day defeat at Ewood Park against Wolves.
    • 14:20 ASTON VILLA: A good look for the home faithful at life without Downing and Young. Given makes his home debut between the sticks, while N'Zogbia looks set to start on the wing. Chance for Delph in central midfield too ahead of the likes of Albrighton, Ireland and Bannan, who are all on the bench.
    • 14:15 ASTON VILLA: Given, Young, Dunne, Collins, Warnock, N'Zogbia, Delph, Petrov, Agbonlahor, Bent, Heskey Subs: Guzan, Ireland, Albrighton, Delfouneso, Makoun, Clark, Bannan /// BLACKBURN: Robinson, Salgado, Nelsen, Hanley, Olsson, Hoilett, Dunn, Nzonzi, Pedersen, Goodwillie, Roberts Subs: Bunn, Formica, Petrovic, Rochina, Blackman, Ribeiro, Lowe

    • 14:05 For Villa, it's the story of Alex McLeish's first home game at Villa Park. Who'd have predicted at the end of last season that the Birmingham boss would have switched to his bitter rivals?
