    • 84' Everton make a change as Distin is replaced by Tim Cahill, with Neville dropping into defence.
    • 83' GOAL! Manchester United 4-3 Everton! Jelavic with another! United fail to deal with a ball into the box as Fellaini causes no end of problems, and as the ball drops to the striker he sweeps it home for his six league goal since joining the club in January.
    • 82' Evra hits the post! United go so close to a fifth as the Frenchman arrives at the back post to slam his header against the woodwork!
    • 80' The pace has dropped out of this game a touch after that frantic period of goalscoring and that will suit United, who will surely hang on for the victory.
    • 78' Stat from Infostrada: "That goal was Wayne Rooney's 180th in all competitions, which takes him ahead of George Best and Dennis Viollet. He has three players ahead of him now on the all-time list: Bobby Charlton (249), Denis Law (237) and Jack Rowley (211)."
    • 76' Still Everton come forward and Jelavic lashes a shot into the side netting.
    • 74' Pienaar with a low effort but De Gea has no problem in gathering at his near post.
    • 73' The first half was somewhat disappointing but the second has been just fantastic. What a show at Old Trafford, and as things stand United will be going eight clear at the top of the table.
    • 71' Stat from Infostrada: "Everton are only the fourth visiting club to score at least twice at Old Trafford this season, following Arsenal, Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City. Two of them won but Arsenal lost 8-2."
    • 70' The standard of the goals in this game has been extraordinarily high.
    • 69' GOAL! Manchester United 4-2 Everton! Another lovely goal puts United two clear. Welbeck with a lovely little dummy as he spins away to collect a pass from Rooney and then he returns the compliment with a square pass as Rooney taps home for his second of the game.
    • 69' In what is becoming an end-to-end encounter, Rooney tests Howard with a low effort. This is a magnificent contest now.
    • 68' Now Everton fancy this and Pienaar sees a firm drive saved by De Gea at his near post. This is shaping up to be a fantastic conclusion.
    • 67' GOAL! Manchester United 3-2 Everton! Marouane Fellaini pulls one back! What a strike! Hibbert is the supplier once again with a cross from the right and the Belgian meets the ball with a gorgeous volley that flies past De Gea.
    • 66' Nani rifles a shot off target as United press forward again. It has been an impressive second half from United.
    • 64' A change for Everton as Osman is replaced by James McFadden.
    • 63' Manchester United have won every game in which Welbeck has scored in the Premier League.
    • 62' Now Rooney tees up Welbeck with a fine touch and the striker has a shot deflected behind for a corner. Everton are all over the place at present.
    • 60' GOAL! Manchester United 3-1 Everton! Nani with a delicious finish. It is a superb passing move from United, culminating in a sweet reverse pass from Welbeck for Nani, who dinks the ball over Howard for a second goal in four minutes.
    • 59' Neville, still angry after the goal, is shown a yellow card for a clumsy challenge.
    • 58' That really was a sumptuous little finish from Welbeck, his ninth of the season in the Premier League.
    • 57' GOAL! Manchester United 2-1 Everton! A fantastic strike from Welbeck puts United in front! Everton are angry as Pienaar was down injured but United are under no obligation to stop play and when Evra heads into the forward's path, Welbeck makes space with a nice little dummy and then curls the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box.
    • 56' Stat from Infostrada: "Manchester United have gone on to win 12 of their last 13 Premier League home matches in which they were level at half time. The only exception in this series which covers nearly three seasons was Newcastle's 1-1 draw at Old Trafford back in November. At half time that match was goalless."
    • 54' Howard clasps the ball on the edge of the box and is then pushed out by Scholes, who has the audacity to try and claim a handball. The decision goes Everton's way.
    • 53' That's a shame. Osman makes an interception in midfield but then gets his pass all wrong when trying to spread the ball out to the left wing.
    • 52' Jelavic is penalised for handball when trying to pull down a high pass down the right wing.

    • 47' Evra is shown a yellow card to join fellow Frenchman Distin in the book.
    • 46' KICK OFF!
    • - A half-time stat for you: "That goal means Rooney has joined George Best and Dennis Violett as Man Utd's joint 4th record goalscorer on 179 goals."
    • - Will United complete the comeback and go on to win? Let me know what you think on Twitter now. Follow Tom Adams on Twitter.
    • 45+3' HALF TIME. United threaten from the subsequent free kick as Welbeck heads just wide, but that is half time and we are level at 1-1 thanks to goals from Jelavic and Rooney.
    • 45+2' Distin is the first name in the book for a push on Valencia. It is rather harsh though as there wasn't all that much contact between the two players.
    • 45+1' An interesting attempt from Jelavic. Pienaar with a cross from the right and the Croatian attempts a scissor-kick on the stretch, only succeeding in sending his effort high into the air.
    • 45' Everton advance through Osman through the centre of the pitch but his shot is weak and dribbles into the arms of De Gea.
    • 43' Fergie is losing it with the fourth official for some reason. The cameras pan down to reveal he is wearing trainers, like a youth out to cause trouble on a high street.
    • 41' GOAL! Manchester United 1-1 Everton! Rooney scores against his former side to draw United level. Carrick pokes the ball wide to Evra and the Frenchman slips a pass to Nani, who produces a wonderful inswinging cross from the left. He finds Rooney who turns the ball past Howard from close range with his head. A lovely goal.
    • 39' A hint of controversy here as Rafael is brought to ground by a clumsy challenge from Osman right on the edge of the box, but United's appeals go ignored.
    • 38' Stat from Opta: "Everton had scored just two goals in their last seven league trips to Old Trafford, and had failed to net in their last three."
    • 37' Evans is the victim of a poor challenge from Jonny Heitinga as the Dutchman catches his right boot. Evans hobbles off for treatment.
    • 35' United look for an immediate response and Scholes almost levels! The ball pops out to him from a corner and his shot takes two deflections before Howard makes a wonderful save to claw the ball out and then grab it at the second attempt.
    • 33' GOAL! Manchester United 0-1 Everton! Jelavic scores his fifth goal in nine league games! Hibbert delivers a deep cross from the right and Jelavic produces a glorious cushioned header at the back post from the tightest of angles that soars back over the head of De Gea and nestles just inside the far post.
    • 33' Unlucky from Nani. He takes a 50-yard pass from Carrick in his stride before trying to get away from Tony Hibbert with a backheel. However, the ball runs out of play.
    • 32' Nani with a vicious cross from the left and Howard is alert enough to save at his near post. That could have caught the Everton keeper out.
    • 31' United will know the threat Gibson poses from range and after finding a pocket of space 25 yards from goal he unleashes a shot that skews away from goal.
    • 30' Stat from Opta: "In this season’s reverse fixture, Everton had 19 shots to United’s seven, but the Red Devils won 1-0."
    • 28' Rafael finds an inch of space away from Distin in an advanced position but Howard smothers his dangerous cross at the near post.
    • 27' Fellaini snaps into a challenge on Nani to win possession for Everton and then tries to play in Jelavic with a neat pass. Rio Ferdinand clears behind for a corner. De Gea makes a hash of the delivery but United are able to clear.
    • 25' United win the first corner of the game. Rooney with the delivery and although Welbeck gives Howard a bit of trouble, the keeper catches the ball with ease.
    • 23' Now Welbeck has a shot blocked as United go in search of the opener. Old Trafford responds by raising the volume by a few notches.
    • 22' Rooney fires in a cross from the left but is unable to pick out Welbeck in the centre of the box. United have started to apply more pressure after Everton's quick start.
    • 20' Neville floats a deep cross to the back post and Distin meets it with a header that flies wide of the post. The defender was a bit too comfortable in meeting that.
    • 18' Scholes and Rooney combine to release Rafael in the box but as he sneaks past his marker he uses his arm and a free kick is awarded. That was better in the build-up from United though.
    • 17' Stat from Infostrada: "Since Scholes made his return for the club in mid-January, they have dropped only two points – in a draw against Chelsea – in the 13 matches he has played. Scholes has started 10 of those matches and United have won all 10."
    • 16' Michael Carrick lays the ball off to Paul Scholes 20 yards from goal and a low effort from the midfielder fizzes just wide of the post. Everton won't want to give him any space that near to goal.
    • 15' A painful one for Danny Welbeck as he catches an attempted clearance in a sensitive area. Men around the country wince, but the forward soldiers on.
    • 14' Here is Rooney for the first time and he gets above Phil Jagielka to meet a cross from Patrice Evra from the left, only to see his header fly wide of the post.
    • 12' Now Nani dives away from Osman on the right wing before lashing in a firm effort that Tim Howard clasps at his near post. The Portugal international looks keen to impress this afternoon.
    • 11' A cross finds its way to Nani at the back post and the winger cuts inside to make space before bending a shot wide of the far post. He is more than capable from scoring from that kind of position.
    • 10' Sylvain Distin, at left-back in place of Baines, extends his leg and sticks out a boot to prevent Antonio Valencia from chesting the ball down and racing away down the right wing.
    • 9' Jelavic tries to slip a pass in for Marouane Fellaini but Jonny Evans, who has been in exceptional form of late, makes a good interception.
    • 7' Stat from Opta: "The Toffees won 3-0 at Old Trafford in their first ever Premier League away game (August 1992), but have failed to win any of their other 18 trips to Man Utd in the Premier League (D3, L15)."
    • 6' It has been a bit of concerning start for United here as they have been outplayed by Everton in the early stages and have been remarkably slack.
    • 5' Everton's fine start continues. Osman plays in Nikica Jelavic with a clever little pass and the Croatian forces David De Gea into a smart save. Everton then pour forward again and Osman chests down before drilling a shot wide of the post.
    • 4' Stat from Infostrada: "Manchester United have scored in their last 47 Premier League home matches, the longest top flight streak of home scoring for over 25 years, since today’s opponents Everton netted in 47 successive Division One matches between 1984 and 1986."
    • 3' David Moyes will have been mightily encouraged by these early minutes at Old Trafford with Everton looking the more lively side. United have been rather subdued.
    • 2' A decent start from Everton, who are passing the ball around with composure. Leon Osman then sees a shot blocked by Rio Ferdinand before heading the rebound wide.
    • 1' KICK OFF!
    • 12:25 So, will Everton get their first win at Old Trafford since August 1992 - only the fifth day of the Premier League? Give me your predictions on Twitter now. Follow Tom Adams on Twitter
    • 12:20 Just to underline the importance of this tie, if United take all three points today then they will be named champions of England for a 20th time with a victory at the home of Manchester City on April 30, whatever result City get against Wolves later today. United enjoying a title party at the Etihad Stadium? That will look a distinct possibility if Everton are brushed aside today.
    • 12:15 Wayne Rooney is always the subject of focus in games against his former side but he has only scored twice in 11 league matches against Everton. Remember, the Toffees also have three former United players in their ranks in Tim Howard, Phil Neville and Darron Gibson. United are of course heavy favourites but Everton are a robust side and won't make things easy for the hosts.
    • 12:10 Everton have won three of their past four in the league to creep up to seventh place, one point ahead of rivals Liverpool who beat them in the FA Cup semi-final last weekend. However, they have scored only two goals in their past seven visits to Old Trafford, drawing a blank on their previous three trips to Manchester. Moyes eyes top-10 finish.
    • 12:05 United are on a run of 12 victories in 14 Premier League games that has propelled them five points clear of City at the top of the table with four games remaining. Given they visit Etihad Stadium on April 30 they cannot afford a slip-up today, but having beaten Everton 29 times in the Premier League, the joint most by any club against a single opponent, they will feel in confident shape. • 12:00 Confirmation, there, that United make only one change from the side that defeated Aston Villa 4-0 last weekend as Young is taken out of the firing line. Everton make two changes from the side that lost the FA Cup semi-final to Liverpool with Phil Jagielka and Steven Pienaar coming in for Leighton Baines and Magaye Gueye.

    • 11:50 The early team news is that United have dropped Ashley Young for Nani. This may be significant as Young has been the subject of fierce criticism for two incidents of diving in recent weeks and Sir Alex Ferguson admitted this week he had had words with the player. Ferguson speaks to Young over diving.
    • 11:45 Hello and welcome to our live coverage from Old Trafford as Manchester United take on Everton. A home win takes United eight points clear of Manchester City, who visit Wolves at 4pm. There will be three games left after today with the Manchester derby looming large next Monday.
