    • - Don't forget you can watch highlights of this match, along with every Premier League game, from 00:01 on Monday morning (UK only).
    • 90+5' FULL TIME. A very harsh scoreline on Newcastle in a game that was thrilling from start to finish.
    • 90+4' Terry joins him in the book, though I am not sure why.
    • 90+4' Taylor goes into the book for a wild challenge on Sturridge. That was very poor indeed.
    • 90+3' GOAL! Newcastle 0-3 Chelsea! Sturridge finally gets the goal his performance has merited when taking the ball inside Sammy Ameobi and placing an effort into the far corner.
    • 90+1' We will have four added minutes.
    • 90' Steven Taylor has been forced off due to injury and Newcastle have made all their substitutions so they are a man down.
    • 89' GOAL! Newcastle 0-2 Chelsea! Torres races away and sees an effort blocked but he regains the ball and passes for Kalou, who sees Krul get a hand to his shot, but not enough contact to stop it going in.
    • 87' Simpson goes into the book.
    • 87' Guthrie lashes a shot over the bar from range. Cech was never in trouble.
    • 86' Sturridge gets a pass from Torres and tries to pull the ball back but finds the legs of Krul to be an impenetrable barrier once again.
    • 85' Sturridge gets frustrated and boots the ball away after a decision goes against Chelsea. A silly booking.
    • 84' Shola Ameobi skews his shot wide of the post after getting on the end of a ball over the top.
    • 83' Incredible stuff. Sturridge through on goal again but Krul stands up and then makes a fine save to deny the striker, yet again. The Dutchman is winning that duel comprehensively.
    • 81' Newcastle hit the bar! Shola pulls down a long pass and with Luiz standing off, he rifles the ball against the woodwork. Sammy follows up with a shot but sees it saved by Cech.
    • 80' Sturridge produces a great reverse pass down the line to find Torres but the move peters out for Chelsea.
    • 79' Chelsea make a change with Fernando Torres coming on for Drogba.
    • 78' In the same incident, Shola Ameobi caught Romeu in the back of the head and he looks a bit dazed. Romeu off for treatment.
    • 77' Ba challenges for a long throw from Ryan Taylor and falls to the floor after being caught on the back of the head by Terry's elbow. Newcastle want a penalty but that would have been incredibly generous.
    • 76' Stat from Infostrada: "Salomon Kalou makes his 100th appearance for the club as a substitute – the first Chelsea player to ever reach this milestone."
    • 74' Mata, who has been excellent, is taken off and Salomon Kalou comes on in his place.
    • 73' Off the line! Shola puts Cech under pressure in the air and the ball pops out to Sammy, who sees his snatched shot cleared off the line by Terry.
    • 72' So unlucky for Chelsea! Sturridge releases Mata with a glorious pass through the legs of Perch but the Spaniard stabs his shot wide of the upright.
    • 71' Sammy Ameobi joins his older brother when coming on for Lovenkrands.
    • 70' Cabaye with another finely-weighted pass over the top and Newcastle win a corner.
    • 69' Awful defending from Ryan Taylor as he plays a square pass directly to Mata, but thankfully for Newcastle the Spaniard can't get a shot away.
    • 68' Now Terry excels at the back when holding off Ameobi and ushering the ball behind for a corner.
    • 67' Lovenkrands flicks the ball into the box and Cole does well to get his body in to block a shot from Ba on the spin. Excellent defending from the Chelsea man.
    • 66' Another chance for Newcastle as Luiz throws out a leg to block a fierce effort from Ba.
    • 65' Stat from Infostrada: "Frank Lampard was substituted for only the second time in the PL this season. The last came at half time in the 3-1 defeat at Manchester United."
    • 64' Meireles is down holding his head in pain after being accidentally caught by the boot of Simpson. He clambers to his feet and continues though.
    • 62' Cech comes to clasp a cross and collides with Terry, who was also knocked into by Ba. The Chelsea skipper pulls himself to his feet though.
    • 61' A change for Chelsea as Lampard is removed, with Raul Meireles coming on in his place.
    • 60' Obertan gets in behind Coe but his cross fails to find a Newcastle shirt. He should have done better there, really.
    • 59' Lovely stuff from Ameobi. He holds off Romeu and fires in a low effort that sneaks wide of the post.
    • 58' By the way, Martin O'Neill has now officially been appointed as Sunderland's new manager. Full story
    • 57' What a game this has been. Certainly one of the contests of the season. Krul possibly man of the match so far but Sturridge and Mata have been superb.
    • 55' Newcastle hit the bar! Cabaye with a dangerous corner and Drogba heads the ball against his own bar! Mata then springs a counter-attack by feeding Sturridge and the ball is worked to Ramires, who is denied by a fantastic save from Krul!
    • 53' Had to be a goal! Drogba chests down a cross from Ivanovic at the back post after peeling off Simpson but gets his volleyed finish all wrong as he blasts the ball wide. That was poor from the Ivorian.
    • 52' Obertan feeds Ameobi in the box and his low effort is blocked by Lampard. Newcastle look full of intent at present.
    • 51' Guthrie finds a sliver of space 20 yards from goal but his shot doesn't find its way through to Cecfh in the Chelsea goal.
    • 50' It had been a low-key start to the second half, but it was never going to match the drama of the first, was it?
    • 49' A good stat from Infostrada: "Shola Ameobi comes on as substitute for the 92nd time in the PL era – only two players have come on as sub more often in the division, Kanu (118) and Jermain Defoe (100)."
    • 48' Cabaye picks out Ameobi with a ball over the top and his header back finds Lovenkrands. However, after taking a touch the Dane can't sniff out a shot.
    • 47' Stat from Infostrada: "Chelsea are unbeaten in the last 24 PL matches Didier Drogba has scored in, since a 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa in October 2009."
    • 46' Change for Newcastle as Shola Ameobi replaces Ben Arfa at the break.
    • 46' KICK OFF!
    • - Don't forget, you can get in contact with me on Twitter if you want to have your say. @tomEurosport
    • 45+3' HALF TIME. A brilliant 90 minutes with far too much action to condense into one sentence. Drogba's header separates the sides.
    • 45+2' Like a fisherman attempting to keep hold of a particularly slippery carp, Taylor just about prevents Sturridge from wriggling away from him on the right flank.
    • 45+1' Mata tries a volley on the spin but sees his effort blocked.
    • 45' We will have two minutes of added time in the first half.
    • 44' Ba embarks on a dangerous run as he tries to squeeze into the box but Ramires halts the Newcastle striker.
    • 43' Stat from Infostrada: "Juan Mata provided his seventh PL assist this season – equalling the most in the division set by David Silva."
    • 42' Sturridge finds space again on the right but his cross flies harmlessly over the box and out.
    • 41' What a save! Sturridge is denied by Krul once again as the Dutchman gets down low to his left and throws out an arm to stop a firm effort from the forward.
    • 40' A corner arrives from the right from Mata but Krul does well to hold onto the ball.
    • 39' Stat from Infostrada: "Drogba scored his first Premier League goal at St James' Park – the 21st different stadium he has scored at."
    • 38' GOAL! Newcastle 0-1 Chelsea! A superbly-worked goal this. Cole plays in Mata with a smart throw and he hooks the ball towards Drogba, who eludes Perch and directs his header into the top corner, out of the reach even of Krul.
    • 37' Mata has a shot blocked by Ryan Taylor as the Newcastle defence continues to hold firm.
    • 36' We have had a missed penalty, a blatant red card that was punished only by a yellow and three incidents when the woodwork has been struck. What a first half.
    • 35' Newcastle hit the post! Cabaye dinks a fine cross to the back post and Ba heads down into the ground and against the woodwork. Terry then tries to boot the ball clear and hits Luiz, with the ball sneaking just wide as Cech scrambles to his right.
    • 33' Lampard does well to hold onto the ball under pressure in the Newcastle box but his cross is plucked out of the air by Krul.
    • 32' Guthrie has about three kicks at Ramires and finally brings him down to concede a free-kick. Mata delivers it into the box and after Newcastle scramble the ball clear, Romeu follows up with a poor effort from range.
    • 31' Gabriel Obertan brings out the stepovers but Ashley Cole is far too experienced to be dazzled by a bit of skill and nicks the ball away from the Frenchman.
    • 30' Brilliant, brilliant stuff from Mata as he spins gloriously away from Simpson and flings in a curling cross to the back post, where Drogba sees his shot take a touch off Steven Taylor and fly wide for a corner.
    • 28' Newcastle make the change as Perch comes on for Coloccini and that is a real blow for Newcastle. The Argentina international has been in fine form this season.
    • 26' Newcastle will be forced into a change as Coloccini is struggling with a thigh problem. James Perch, king of the yellow cards, is getting ready.
    • 25' What a game this has been. Chelsea should be down to ten men but have responded well by exploiting an evident weakness in the Newcastle side: namely Ryan Taylor.
    • 24' Brilliant stuff! Lovenkrands chips an excellent cross into the box and the striker produces an unconventional backheel flick to force Cech into a fine save as he touches the ball over the bar.
    • 23' Sturridge again. Newcastle just aren't picking him up at the moment. The youngster produces a series of stepovers to dazzle Coloccini and drives a low shot into the side netting. Sturridge is taking Newcastle apart on the right.
    • 22' Another great chance! Mata releases Sturridge down the right with a sumptuous through-ball but as the forward drives into the box and produces a low effort, he is denied by Krul yet again.
    • 21' Sturridge takes possession of the ball 20 yards from goal, shields it from an opponent and drives a shot narrowly wide. He has been a real livewire so far today, as has Mata, who was heavily involved in the build-up.
    • 19' Peter Lovenkrands saunters through the midfield before seeing a low effort blocked by Terry. Chelsea then stave off the threat of Ba.
    • 18' Stat courtesy of Infostrada: "Frank Lampard missed his fourth out of 39 career PL penalties. His last miss was at home v Stoke in August 2010."
    • 17' This has been a fantastic game so far. Breathless stuff.
    • 16' Chelsea hit the post! Mata slips in a pass to Sturridge and he jinks away from Ryan Taylor before belting a firm effort against the woodwork! Krul got a touch.
    • 14' Saved! Tim Krul tips Lampard's spot-kick onto the post! What a season the Dutchman is having!
    • 13' Penalty for Chelsea! Cabaye brings down Sturridge and that is a blatant spot-kick.
    • 12' Ba produces a Zidane-esque bit of skill, lovely stuff.
    • 11' Petr Cech plays the ball short to David Luiz, perhaps not the best option at present, and he hits a long ball for Drogba, who is ruled offside.
    • 10' Ryan Taylor pushes Daniel Sturridge wide on the right of the box and Steven Taylor heads clear when the Chelsea forward does dink a cross into the box.
    • 8' Oh dear, and apparently he is. Under pressure, Luiz remarkably tries to nutmeg Ba but is muscled off the ball. Cabaye gets possession and drives into the box, only to see his shot blocked by Terry. Comical defending from Luiz so far today.
    • 7' Newcastle fans sing "you're just a &@?! Coloccini" to Luiz, referencing the similar hairstyles of the two.
    • 7' Ryan Taylor lines up the free-kick and strikes the top of the wall. Newcastle will be furious that they gained nothing from that incident and Luiz can consider himself a very, very lucky boy.
    • 6' Ba had a clear goalscoring opportunity and I am absolutely amazed that a red card was not shown. A shocking decision from Dean having rightly given the free-kick.
    • 5' Huge controversy! David Luiz brings down Demba Ba 20 yards from goal as the striker attempts to latch onto a through-ball from Yohan Cabaye and Mike Dean gives the free-kick, but bottles bringing out a red. It had to be a dismissal!
    • 4' Ramires accelerates past Danny Guthrie all too easily in midfield and carries the ball 20 yards before attempting to play in Drogba. Fabricio Coloccini sticks out a leg to intercept though.
    • 3' Juan Mata looks to sneak away from Danny Simpson but the Newcastle right-back sticks out a leg to block the ball. The Spaniard would have had the run of the left flank had he escaped.
    • 2' Hatem Ben Arfa, clad in gloves and a short-sleeved t-shirt, commits the first foul of the day when tripping Didier Drogba.
    • 1' KICK OFF!
    • 13.48 We are now having a moment of appreciation for the life and career of Gary Speed. His name is chanted by those in attendance at St James' Park and Welsh flags fly. There are tears from Newcastle coach John Carver, who knew him so well.
    • 12.47 Infostrada inform us that Frank Lampard makes his 500th start for Chelsea today. We are also told that Gary Speed scored his first ever goal for Newcastle in this very fixture in May 1998. Right, the players stream out of the tunnel and we are almost good to go.
    • 12.45 If you want to get stuck into the debate about today's game then get in contact on Twitter. I will try and use your comments here when I can. Follow Tom Adams on Twitter
    • 12.40 Despite the distraction of Joey Barton's Twitter rants, Newcastle are enjoying a fantastic season under manager Alan Pardew. Though they lost their unbeaten record on November 19 when losing at Manchester City, last weekend they responded by snatching a 1-1 draw at Manchester United. Chelsea would underestimate them at their peril, even with a pretty rotten midfield.
    • 12.35 I think it is fair to describe this as a pretty important game for Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas. The Blues have lost three of their past four games in all competitions and the Portuguese is under considerable pressure at present. Chelsea lie fifth in the table, one point behind today's opponents, and another loss might get Roman Abramovich twitching.
    • 12.30 This is also a nice little stat, particularly for Newcastle fans: "Only Robin van Persie (31) and Wayne Rooney (19) have netted more league goals in 2011 than Demba Ba (16)." Fernando Torres can only dream of such statistics of course.
    • 12.25 So, what do the stats tell us? This from Opta: "Newcastle have won none of the last eight Premier League meetings with Chelsea (D4 L4). The Magpies have scored just three goals in their last six home games against Chelsea and failed to score in three of the last four. Newcastle are unbeaten in their last 10 Premier League home games (W6 D4). This is Newcastle’s best start to a season since 1996-97 when they had 28 points after 13 matches."
    • 12.20 With Jonas Gutierrez suspended following his red card at Old Trafford last weekend, Newcastle bring in Peter Lovenkrands for his first Premier League appearance of the season. That is the only change to Pardew's side, but it gives the home midfield a bit of a weak look.
    • 12.15 The most interesting aspect of the Chelsea side - given that the relegation of Fernando Torres to the bench no longer raises an eyebrow - is Villas-Boas's decision to stick with young Spanish midfielder Oriol Romeu for the third game in succession. Only David Luiz and Frank Lampard also remain from the side that lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the Carling Cup in midweek.
    • 12.10 TEAM NEWS: Newcastle: Krul, Simpson, Taylor, Coloccini, Taylor, Obertan, Cabaye, Guthrie, Lovenkrands, Ben Arfa, Ba. Subs: Harper, Santon, Perch, Gosling, Ameobi, Best, Ameobi. /// Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry, Cole, Romeu, Ramires, Lampard, Sturridge, Drogba, Mata. Subs: Turnbull, Bosingwa, Bertrand, Meireles, Malouda, Kalou, Torres.
    • 12.05 A planned tribute to former Newcastle midfielder Gary Speed has been postponed as his widow, Louise, wanted to be able to attend, but this afternoon's game is likely to still crackle with emotion given the high esteem Speed was held in in these parts. He represented Newcastle with distinction for six years of course.
    • 12.00 Hello and welcome to our live commentary on the Premier League match between Newcastle and Chelsea at a brand new place called the Sports Direct Arena. Oh, wait, that's St James' Park to you and I, and that is what we will continue to call it. Sorry Mike.
