    • 90+4' FULL TIME. Cisse with a brace as Newcastle condemn Liverpool to a sixth defeat in seven Premier League games. Reina was dismissed late on for a headbutt on an awful afternoon for Dalglish and his side.
    • 90+2' Enrique does well to palm away a cross from the left. The left-back hasn't really been tested since deputising for Reina, sadly, as that's always good fun to watch.
    • 90+1' We will have four minutes of added time.
    • 90' A change for Newcastle as Santon replaces the excellent Ben Arfa.
    • 89' Stat from Infostrada: "Jose Reina’s only previous PL red card came on 5 Feb 2006: Chelsea - Liverpool 2-0."
    • 87' Perch's role in that dismissal will be analysed as he was guilty of simulation and also instigated the trouble. But there is no excuse for Reina to act like that and he will now miss the FA Cup semi-final against Everton as a result.
    • 85' A good start from Enrique as his goal kick is excellent. He has six minutes to avoid any further embarrassment.
    • 84' Perch originally tripped Reina and then made the most of the attempted headbutt, but it was a ridiculous thing for Reina to do. Enrique is going in goal!
    • 83' Reina is off! Replays show he headbutted Perch! Liverpool have made all three subs!
    • 82' Trouble erupts. Perch is booked for Newcastle after pushing in the box.
    • 81' Cabaye supplies a dangerous free kick from the right but the ball flies across the face of goal.
    • 80' Carroll looked rather unhappy there.
    • 79' A double change for Liverpool as Kuyt and Henderson come on. Carroll is replaced, to ironic cheers from the Newcastle fans, and goes straight down the tunnel and removes his shirt. Bellamy also off.
    • 77' Liverpool are running out of time here and look desperately short of ideas. This has been a horrid performance in the second half.
    • 75' Liverpool make their own substitution as Shelvey is replaced by Downing.
    • 74' Newcastle make a change as Cisse, scorer of both goals, is replaced by Shola Ameobi.
    • 73' Suarez clutches his face after Gutierrez extends an arm but miraculously recovers immediately. Strange that.
    • 72' Cisse is caught offside this time when collecting a dinked pass from Cabaye.
    • 70' As things stand, Liverpool will remain in eighth place, one point behind Everton and a full 11 behind Newcastle, who will go level with Chelsea in fifth.
    • 68' Suarez knocks into Cabaye, who goes down in pain. However, it appears to be a time-wasting strategy as he is fine to continue.
    • 67' Stat from Infostrada: "Papiss Cisse is the fourth player to score a brace against Liverpool this season joining Emmanuel Adebayor (Spurs, 18 Sep 2011), Wayne Rooney (Man Utd, 11 Feb 2012) and Robin van Persie (Arsenal, 3 Mar 2012)"
    • 66' Here is the change: Gosling on for Guthrie in midfield.
    • 65' Guthrie, formerly of Liverpool, is down hurt for Newcastle. Newcastle will replace him with Dan Gosling.
    • 64' Newcastle don't deserve to be two goals in front but Liverpool, again, have been wasteful. It has dogged their season.
    • 62' Chance for Liverpool! Krul comes for the ball and fails to clear, but when Suarez attempts to follow up and convert he sees his effort blocked by Perch.
    • 61' Stat from Infostrada: "There have now been 114 goals scored in this PL fixture, this equals the record for most goals in a PL fixture: Arsenal v Tottenham (114 goals)."
    • 60' If Ben Arfa hadn't have touched the ball then it would not have stood. Great composure from the striker though, who now has seven in seven for the Magpies.
    • 59' GOAL! Newcastle 2-0 Liverpool! Cisse with a second! The striker is clearly offside when Ba plays the initial pass but Cisse is then perfectly placed to collect after a faint touch from Ben Arfa, sidestep Reina, take a touch and slot the ball home.
    • 58' Gerrard punts a teasing ball right down the centre of the pitch and Carroll is poised to take charge, but Williamson gets his head to the ball in a fine piece of defending.
    • 57' A decent effort from Shelvey. He jinks away from Cabaye in the centre of the pitch before testing Krul with a firm effort from 20 yards.
    • 56' Gerrard bursts down the right wing to fizz in a low cross for Bellamy. Williamson gets his foot in to stop the ball before Krul smothers it. Suarez appeals for a pass-back but that's very hopeful indeed.
    • 55' Newcastle try to set Ben Arfa free with a diagonal ball but it goes out of play. The Frenchman is appreciative of the effort though.
    • 54' Now Newcastle fans chant: "Jose Enrique, we're in the top six." It's a dig at their former player, who as things stand will be in eighth at the end of play.
    • 53' Gutierrez looks happy enough to slot back in at left-back but Newcastle do have Davide Santon on the bench if needs be.
    • 51' Well, Gutierrez might be able to continue here, but Newcastle will have to keep an eye on him.
    • 50' Gutierrez tries to whakc the ball clear in the box but only succeeds in kicking the bottom of Shlevey's boot. The Argentina international is in some pain and may have to come off.
    • 49' Tiote is the second Newcastle name in the book for a wild challenge on Flanagan.
    • 48' Newcastle hit the woodwork! Williamson produces a towering header to a cross from the right and watches on as the ball loops and strikes the base of the far post. So unlucky!
    • 47' Flanagan, who has already been booked, clatters into Ba in the air to concede a free kick. There was nothing malicious in it though.
    • 47' Stat from Infostrada: "This is the 12th time this season Newcastle United lead at half-time. Only Man Utd (20 times) and Man City (14) have led more often at half-time this season."
    • 46' KICK OFF!
    • - Have Liverpool been hard done by? What on earth was Carroll playing at? Let me know on Twitter now. Follow Tom Adams on Twitter
    • 45+2' HALF TIME. Carroll's dive and Cisse's goal ensure Newcastle are leading 1-0 at the break.
    • 45+1' We will have two added minutes.
    • 45' John Flanagan goes into the book for a pretty wild challenge. The third Liverpool player to be cautioned.
    • 44' Guthrie has a shot deflected behind for a corner but the assistant has raised his flag and it will not count.
    • 43' Cisse and Carroll have been the central characters in this game, no doubt about it. Ben Arfa has been the best player though.
    • 41' Chance for Cisse! Shelvey charges over to the touchline and slides to keep the ball in play, yet in doing so he only succeeds in giving the ball straight to Guthrie, who picks out Cisse with a fine cross from the right. The striker rises well but directs the ball wide of the far post to leave himself infuriated.
    • 40' Liverpool's chances have dried up a touch in the past few minutes.
    • 39' Ben Arfa has probably been the outstanding player so far. His use of the ball has been largely impeccable. Meanwhile, Liverpool are guilty of a sloppy pass.
    • 37' Stat from Infostrada: "Newcastle are unbeaten at home after scoring the opening goal for one year (12 PL matches, 10 wins – two draws). Their last home defeat after opening the score came on 5 March 2011 vs Everton (1-2)."
    • 35' Ba takes aim from 25 yards and his firm effort deflects of Skrtel and flies just wide with Reina scrambling to his left. The corner is better this time from Ben Arfa but Williamson heads off target.
    • 33' More lovely work from Ben Arfa as he wreaks havoc on the right, Skrtel forced to make an emergency clearance from his cross and concede a corner. It is wasted by Ben Arfa though.
    • 32' Carroll is a persistent threat and after just failing to get one shot away from the edge of the box he is then the target of a cross from the right. Liverpool keep looking for him but his final product has been poor, as so often.
    • 30' Cisse goes into the book for failing to get the full 10 yards for a Liverpool free kick. Silly.
    • 29' Cabaye with a poor effort for Newcastle. Though Liverpool are behind, they look more than capable of opening Newcastle up and have been dangerous throughout.
    • 28' Carroll goes close! Bellamy plays in a low cross from the right and as Williamson and Simpson slide in to prevent the striker tapping in, the ball pops up into the air and Carroll heads over under pressure from Krul.
    • 27' Simpson tries to copy Ben Arfa by flinging in a deep cross for Cisse but the ball soars away from the striker and towards Reina.
    • 25' Shelvey feeds Bellamy on the right and as he attempts to pick out Shelvey, Perch produces a vital touch to take the cross away from the striker.
    • 24' Ben Arfa, who is looking very lively, tries to slip in Cisse with a threaded pass but Reina collects to offer Liverpool some respite.
    • 23' Stat from Infostrada: "Only Les Ferdinand (six goals in six matches in 1995) needed less PL matches than Cisse (to score his first six goals for Newcastle."
    • 22' It sounds as though Newcastle fans are singing "you're getting sacked in the morning" at Kenny Dalglish. Harsh, though they are now on course for a sixth defeat in seven.
    • 21' Newcastle's former number nine has been booked for diving after rounding the keeper. Newcastle's current number nine has scored yet another goal following his January move from Freiburg.
    • 20' GOAL! Newcastle 1-0 Liverpool! Cisse scores his sixth goal in seven games to give Newcastle the lead! Lovely work from Ben Arfa as he checks back before picking out Cisse with a wonderful cross. The striker drifted off Skrtel and directed his header back across goal and in off the inside of the far post.
    • 19' Stat from Infostrada: "Andy Carroll gets booked for the 11th time in his PL career (6x as Newcastle player and now 5x as Liverpool player). He has never been sent off in a PL match."
    • 18' Shelvey produces a clumsy challenge on Cisse and goes into the book. But it is Newcastle who should be a man down.
    • 17' Controversy! Liverpool's corner appears to glance the arm of Williamson before Simpson then clears the ball off the line using the top of his arm. It should have been a penalty and a red card.
    • 16' Liverpool hit the bar! Suarez produces a lovely pass out to the right to find Bellamy and his cross takes a deflection before being tipped onto the top of the ball by Krul in the Newcastle goal.
    • 15' Ba fires in a firm low cross for Cisse at the back post but Pepe Reina anticipates it well and comes off his line to clasp the ball in his arms.
    • 14' Carroll gets involved in a testy exchange of words with former manager Pardew on the touchline. He has certainly made an impact on this game, that is for sure.
    • 13' Yohan Cabaye chips a free kick into the box but Liverpool head clear, and then watch as a cross from Danny Guthrie fails to find a Newcastle shirt.
    • 12' That was a very strange decision from Carroll. Why on earth did he dive? He was past Krul and oly had to tuck the ball away really.
    • 11' Stat from Infostrada: "Alan Pardew’s first match as Newcastle manager came against Liverpool - a 3-1 home victory on December 11, 2010. This is his only win in a total of seven PL matches against them (five defeats)."
    • 9' Carroll produces a lovely touch to take the ball past Perch and then charges into the box before anticipating contact from Tim Krul and throwing himself to the ground. He is rightly booked for diving and the Newcastle fans lap it up. No penalty, and if he had stayed on his feet he could have tapped the ball in. A bizarre decision.
    • 8' James Perch goes in hard on Suarez and although he gets some of the ball, he clearly takes the man. The free kick is delivered by Gerrard from the left and as Mike Williamson puts his arms all over Carroll, Martin Skrtel heads over the bar from five yards out. That was a very good chance.
    • 7' Bellamy loses possession with a slack pass and Newcastle break through Ba. The ball is worked to the right for Ben Arfa and after he drives into the box he goes to ground under minimal contact from Enrique. Nothing in it.
    • 6' It's been a high-tempo, full-blooded affair so far, which bodes well. Nice work from Shelvey as he shimmies to avoid a challenge and squares for Gerrard.
    • 5' Now Newcastle break and Ba takes possession on the left before attempting to find Cisse with the outside of his boot. The striker is offside though.
    • 4' Shelvey enjoys the first chance of the game. It is a nicely-worked move from Liverpool and Carroll lays the ball off to the midfielder, who sees his effort take a deflection and loop over the bar for a corner. Newcastle clear.
    • 3' Rather surprisingly, Jose Enrique is also assailed by boos when he touches the ball at left-back.
    • 2' Luis Suarez robs Tiote of possession but when the ball is worked to Carroll, his attempted ball over the top of the defence fails to reach Bellamy.
    • 2' Carroll's first touch of the ball is greeted with enthusiastic boos from the home fans, and some rather choice chants.
    • 1' KICK OFF!
    • 13:30 The teams stream out at a sun-kissed St James' Park and we are just minutes away from kick-off. I have a feeling it will be a decent game.

    • 13:20 So, a few stats to whet your appetite this lunchtime, courtesy of Opta: "Only Wolves (5) have picked up fewer points than Liverpool (8) in the Premier league in 2012. Liverpool have won six of their last seven Premier League games against the Magpies, losing the other. Alan Pardew’s side are unbeaten in their last six matches at the Sports Direct Arena, winning four of those."
    • 13:15 The Magpies have benefitted from a forward-thinking transfer policy to pull together a talented squad over the past 12 months and after a late, late defeat to Arsenal on March 12 have responded with back-to-back victories over Norwich City and West Brom. A win today moves them level with Chelsea in fifth place once again, just two points behind Spurs, who occupy the final Champions League position. Pardew expects fireworks
    • 13:10 After back-to-back defeats to QPR and Wigan, Liverpool have now lost five of their past six Premier League games and yesterday were bumped back down to eighth place following Everton's win over West Brom. It is a sobering thought that they start today's game a full eight points behind Newcastle, who appear destined to finish fifth or sixth after a tremendous season under Alan Pardew. Premier League table
    • 13:05 Reports have come in that Andy Carroll was booed and called "Judas" as Liverpool got off the bus at St James' Park. He returns for first time since his £35m move to Anfield last January, and has scored just five Premier League goals in 14 months at Anfield. This season, Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse, purchased for a combined £9m, have 21 between them for Newcastle, the latter five in five starts. Dalglish expects nervous Carroll
    • 13:00 Cheick Tiote returns from a thigh injury to anchor the Newcastle midfield, while a front three of Hatem Ben Arfa, Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse looks full of menace. With Fabricio Coloccini out with a hamstring injury, James Perch comes into the centre of a ropey-looking defence with Jonas Gutierrez filling in at left-back.
    • 12:55 The most notable aspect of the team selection is Andy Carroll starting for Liverpool upon his first return to Newcastle United. He plays in a front three with Craig Bellamy, another former Magpie, and Luis Suarez. With Charlie Adam out injured, Jonjo Shelvey makes only his second league start for Liverpool. Dirk Kuyt, Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing are all dropped.
    • 12:50 TEAMS: Newcastle: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Perch, Gutierrez, Guthrie, Tiote, Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Cisse, Ba. Subs: Elliot, Ferguson, Santon, Gosling, Taylor, Vuckic, Ameobi. /// Liverpool: Reina, Flanagan, Carragher, Skrtel, Enrique, Gerrard, Spearing, Shelvey, Bellamy, Carroll, Suarez. Subs: Doni, Aurelio, Maxi, Henderson, Coates, Kuyt, Downing.
