    • 90+6' FULL-TIME: Newcastle up to third! Terrific result for the Magpies, and disappointment for Stoke, who only played in fits and starts.
    • 90+5' Bit of a mix-up between Coloccini and Steven Taylor as they attempt to give Krul the space to collect a through ball. Noticeable because it's been so rare.
    • 90+4' A number of Stoke fans have made their exits already - but the Toon fans staying to watch Newcastle rise to third in the table.
    • 90+3' Krul kicks the ball straight out - not his best clearance of the evening.
    • 90+2' Newcastle defence holding firm again - this time it's Simpson who blocks an effort a few yards out.
    • 90+1' Final change - Guthrie off, Gosling on for Newcastle.
    • 90' Five minutes of stoppage time! That's a surprise. Will it inspire Stoke to one last effort?
    • 89' In fact, despite the two penalties, Dean hasn't issued a single booking tonight.
    • 89' Ba jons in - needless from the man who has a hat-trick to his name - but Dean opts to give him a talking to rather than show a card.
    • 88' The referee blows for a foul on a Newcastle man as Stoke move into the area. Krul and Huth get upset with one another, and there's a bit of a scene on the field here.
    • 87' Lovely play from Walters to skip into space and feed a pass to Jones on the left, but Perch clears into touch. Delap trudges over...
    • 86' Sammy Ameobi replaces Best for Newcastle.
    • 85' Demba Ba is the first player ever to score a hat-trick in a Premier League match at the Britannia Stadium (Opta.
    • 84' Ba tries a trick to play in Best, but that's a bit too fancy.
    • 83' On the Newcastle penalty - there was a push, but Best didn't fall to the ground. It's the sort of the challenge that would often win a foul outside the area, but it's mighty rare to see a spot-kick come from it.
    • 82' COULD HAVE BEEN FOUR! Obertan in space, hits a shot across goal and just wide of the far post. Are Stoke beaten after that goal?
    • 81' GOAL! HAT-TRICK FOR BA! Begovic guesses the wrong way, Ba strokes it low and left. Second hat-trick of the season for Ba!
    • 80' PENALTY FOR NEWCASTLE! Dean has spotted a push on Best from Huth as the long throw came in. Very soft that one. Stoke won't like it, but Ba has a chance to restore Newcastle's advantage!
    • 79' Miskick from Wilkinson gives Newcastle a throw by the right-hand side corner flag.
    • 78' Krul with a goal-kick as Newcastle try to steady the ship. It's not been a comfortable second half.
    • 77' The Magpies make a change - Cabaye off, Perch on. Not Cabaye's best day in a Newcastle shirt.
    • 76' Wilkinson swings in a deep cross, and Krul has to make a full-stretch grab to retain the ball. Newcastle need some possession now.
    • 75' GOAL! WALTERS HAS IT! That's as vicious a penalty hit as you're likely to see. No hint of nerves, and the next 15 minutes could be hugely exciting!
    • 74' PENALTY TO STOKE! BA GIVES IT AWAY! The goalscorer brings down Crouch in a goalmouth scramble. A bit soft, but there was enough contact for Dean to award the kick. A way back into the game for Stoke?
    • 73' Yet another throw for Delap to fire into the box - Krul has had so many of these to deal with, but once again he does.
    • 72' Walters almost latched on to the end of a through ball, but Coloccini did well to make a lunging block.
    • 71' The visitors break, but this time Ba's run is snuffed out.
    • 70' Stoke enjoying roughly 60% of possession in the second half. But it doesn't mean anything without the goal, and Newcastle still defending well.
    • 69' Best fouls Upson and Stoke get back on the ball again.
    • 68' Stoke opt for Kenwyne Jones. It's Etherington who comes off. So will that be an extra body up front, or will Walters move out wider?
    • 67' Good challenge from Gutierrez to dispossess Pennant and win a tackle. He's offered very little in attack, but Gutierrez has been superb defensively.
    • 66' Etherington's low ball through very dangerous, but Cabaye gets just enough boot on it to take it away from the onrushing Stoke strikers. Pardew shouting instructions from the touchline.
    • 65' Ba intercepts and Newcastle are on a rare break. But Stoke force the visitors backwards. They're a different proposition in this second half, but desperately need a goal to make a game of this.
    • 64' Ryan Taylor down after a blow to his body in the box. Inadvertent, but the defender has been in the wars tonight. He'll continue, but Newcastle do have the option of Santon on the bench.
    • 63' Coincidence? Stoke City have come back from two goals down to get a positive result on only one occasion in the Premier League. However it was on Halloween, the 2-2 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers on October 31, 2009. (Opta)
    • 62' Simpson gets his head on to another wicked delivery. Pennant puts the next corner a little deeper to the back post, but Upson cannot make a clean contact with his header.
    • 61' Etherington blocked by Obertan, but Pennant will take the resulting corner.
    • 60' CLOSE! Nice change-up from Delap, who fires this throw low - there's some subtlety to what he does - and a stepover from Walters catches everyone off-guard and the ball could have gone anywhere. In the end, Newcastle clear. But they're on the back foot.
    • 59' Less convincing from Krul, but he does enough to palm the throw away. But Stoke have another chance for Delap on the other side.
    • 58' The noise is increasing in the Britannia. Pennant wins a throw on the right 10 yards from the corner flag and Stoke sense another chance.
    • 57' Stoke have attacking options on the bench - Jones and Jerome could be deployed - but for the moment Pulis is not making that final change.
    • 56' Best's attempted flick-on goes straight out for a goal-kick.
    • 55' Krul can't get to the corner - but he's been impeded, and he's awarded a free-kick. Newcastle afforded a touch of respite after a good few moments for Stoke.
    • 54' Steven Taylor gives away a useful-looking set-piece opportunity here and Stoke throw everybody forward. It's Taylor himself who heads it out for a corner.
    • 53' HUTH CLOSE! The tall defender first to the corner, but it's over the bar. Should have been closer, it's as good a chance as Stoke have created.
    • 52' Cabaye error and Coloccini comes to block the cross which follows for a corner.
    • 51' Guthrie, quietly effective, moves away from a couple of challenges and towards the halfway line, where Huth concedes a free-kick.
    • 50' There's something you don't see very often - Newcastle take a throw on the left flank long - it goes into play and then curls back out for a Stoke throw twenty yards further up.
    • 49' Krul punches out a Delap throw from the left. The only time Krul has looked anything but assured tonight was the time nobody was anywhere near him!
    • 48' The home side have rediscovered their voice during the break. They'll need the crowd behind them if they are to get back into this one. Remember Stoke only have one substitution left to them after two first-half changes.
    • 47' Best flattens Upson going for a header. Stoke didn't like that challenge, they felt Best led with his elbow. Just a free-kick.
    • 46' The second half begins! Stoke kick off with plenty to do.
    • - If you're looking for something to do at half-time, why not join me, Mark Patterson, on Twitter?
    • - I'll be back shortly to bring you updates from the second half. If Newcastle win, they'll leapfrog Chelsea and go clear in third. Can Stoke rediscover their mojo after the break?
    • 45+5' HALF-TIME: Error from Wilkinson! Really sloppy pass to Best, who bursts forward and hits a strong shot which whistles wide of Begovic's near post from distance. Last action of a Halloween horror show of a half for Stoke.
    • 45+4' Stoke launch one last move down the right hand side, but Crouch, who's looked off-pace, is robbed. A bit of luck for the Potters - he's managed to win a throw.
    • 45+3' Taylor continuing, but he'll be glad to hear the half-time whistle.
    • 45+2' Ryan Taylor a bit groggy here, rising unsteadily to his feet. Santon meanwhile is getting changed ready for action. Will Taylor be kept on until the interval at least?
    • 45+1' Three minutes of stoppage time announced - but it's sure to be more than that with the injury still being looked at.
    • 45' Walters has fouled Ryan Taylor near the penalty spot and we have a delay here as the Newcastle man receives treatment.
    • 44' Mancini not the only manager in the crowd tonight - David Moyes has been spotted by the cameras as well.
    • 43' Demba Ba has scored more goals this evening than all of Stoke's opponents at the Britannia Stadium this season put together. (Opta)
    • 42' STOKE CLOSE! Good corner from Etherington and in a melee of bodies in the box Krul parries the delivery straight up in the air. At the second attempt he manages to grab hold of the ball, but he didn't know too much about it.
    • 41' A second Stoke change before the break - Wilson replaced by Huth. Nothing going to plan for the hosts.
    • 40' GOAL! NEWCASTLE MAKE IT TWO! IT'S BA AGAIN! They get a slice of luck as Upson only half-clears Coloccini's cross and the ball falls to Best. He tries a shot, but luck again as he scuffs it and turns it into a perfect cross for Ba to tap in!
    • 39' Etherington picks out Pennant on the far side with a training ground move - but Cabaye makes amends for giving away the free-kick by closing him down in harness with Taylor and clearing.
    • 38' Decent set-piece chance for Stoke after Cabaye brings down Whelan having got on the wrong side of his man. Etherington stands over it.
    • 37' Some better moments from Stoke. Not much in the way of clear-cut chances, but they're just starting to get to grips with Newcastle's organised, pressing defence.
    • 36' Whelan, Delap, Etherington combine, before Pennant picks the ball out right. He cuts past Gutierrez for the first time this evening, but he attempts a cross into a crowded box rather than a shot on his left foot, and he overhits it.
    • 35' HALF A CHANCE! Etherington displays great technique to try a volley from outside the box, but it just lacks enough power to trouble Krul. Nice hit nonetheless.
    • 34' Oh dear - Wilson looks for an angled ball from deep out towards Pennant and Walters - neither of them anywhere near it, and it goes out direct for a goal-kick. Pulis looking very frustrated.
    • 33' Ryan Taylor quick to pick out Obertan's run from a throw in and it gets Newcastle into a useful position - but Ba's eventual cross from the right is low and easily cleared.
    • 32' Gutierrez tries to deliver a ball from deeep on the left, but that was no trouble for a man of Begovic's skills in the Stoke goal, despite the slippy ball.
    • 31' Obertan thunders down the right and his pace is enough to worry Upson, who opts to clear straight into touch. Newcastle have gained sixty yards though thanks to their winger.
    • 30' Whoops! Krul, who held on so well a couple of moments ago to a Delap throw, fluffs an altogether simpler high ball with nobody near him and gives away a corner.
    • 29' Cabaye loses the ball and Walters is on the break, picking out Pennant who is held up on the touchline.
    • 28' Cabaye gives away a throw in Delap range. Delap fires it into a dangerous area, but Krul makes a superb confident grab.
    • 27' Pardew looks very nervous for a man whose side are a goal to the good. They are also looking the more likely to score a second, with quick breaks a regular threat.
    • 26' The Stoke crowd haven't taken to Ba tonight. He was close to joining the Potters at one point, and they think he's fouled Wilkinson as he challenges for the ball here. Not given by Mike Dean - but there's delight as Ba's touch lets him down and he runs the ball out of play.
    • 25' Gutierrez reigning in his attacking instincts here to keep Pennant neutralised. He gives away a corner, though, and Etherington trundles over to take it.
    • 24' Pennant picks out Crouch with his back to goal, and the England man ends up losing out. Rapid break from Newcastle thanks to Cabaye's super through ball, and Krul makes a brave decision to come out of his area to deny Ba!
    • 23' Simpson takes a less explosive throw down the right, but it's a poor one and Stoke have a rare chance to probe on the left flank.
    • 22' Time for Delap to launch another long throw. The angle so difficult, and it's just moving a touch in the breeze, but on this occasion the Magpies clear.
    • 21' Stoke trying to spread the play, but they're not being allowed into the final third. From left to right the Potters go, but Gutierrez is on hand to block Pennant and clear.
    • 20' All of Demba Ba's six Premier League goals this season have come since September 24, the second most by a player in this period after Robin van Persie's nine. (Opta)
    • 19' Shawcross hurt himself in that slip, and he's not able to continue. Early change for Stoke - Upson replaces him. Not a bad option to have on the bench.
    • 18' Shawcross slips, a chance for Ba! He lost his footing at just the wrong moment and Ba was free, but Begovic rushed out to deny the striker a way past him.
    • 17' Guthrie flicks the ball off the back of his boot towards Best and Ba in the box, but Begovic reads the loopy ball well and grabs.
    • 16' Stoke responding well to going a goal down, but Newcastle also defending resolutely. Plenty of men behind the ball, and a determination to break as soon as they win possession back.
    • 15' Walters and Gutierrez are told to settle down after jostling for the ball while waiting for a corner to come in.
    • 14' Danger in the penalty area! Stoke pushing, and Crouch cannot pull the trigger despite being just outside the six-yard box with the ball at his feet!
    • 13' That's the first goal in the opening 15 minutes in a Stoke game at the Britannia in the Premier League since the 1-1 draw with Chelsea nearly seven months ago.
    • 12' GOAL FOR NEWCASTLE! BA SCORES! Well, that came from not very much! Long ball forward from Kurl, header from Best to Obertan, a delightful cross from the right, and a strong header from close range from Ba!
    • 11' Cautious opening, all things considered. No clear chance on goal for either side, but Newcastle having just a touch more possession.
    • 10' Nice interplay on the right by the visitors but when Best knocks it back to Simpson the defender's pass lets him down. Stoke can move out of their own half.
    • 9' Walters drifts to the right and gets on the end of that long ball, but his centre into the box is cleared.
    • 8' Wilkinson pushed off the ball going for a header in the centre of the pitch. Stoke send men forward for a set piece.
    • 7' Roberto Mancini and David Platt in the audience for this game at the Britannia. No rest for the men at the top of the table.
    • 6' Begovic makes a good decision to come out and clear Guthrie's chipped through ball, which Obertan was chasing down.
    • 5' The pitch is noticeably narrow tonight - the lines have been repainted a couple of yards inside, and that should suit the hosts.
    • 4' Walters felled as Stoke look for a way forward. They've yet to impose themselves on the game so far.
    • 3' Obertan tries to jink down the right-hand side, but is forced into touch.
    • 2' Early pressure from the visitors. Two corners sent in by the Magpies, but Stoke defend stoutly. Ryan Taylor belts a ball from distance at goal as Stoke clear, but it flashes high.
    • 1' Newcastle in their black away kit kick us off at the Britannia!
    • 19:59 Players out on the pitch ready to begin - Tony Pulis does a jog along the touchline. He looks pumped.
    • 19:58 Your referee for the evening: Mike Dean (Wirral)

    • 19:56 Match odds have Stoke as narrow 11/10 favourites - Newcastle are 13/5. Who do you back tonight?
    • 19:55 A return to the good old days? Newcastle are unbeaten in 12 consecutive Premier games for the first time since August 1997 (W6 D6). (Opta)
    • 19:50 HEAD TO HEAD: Newcastle have won none of the four Premier League meetings with Stoke, losing two and drawing two (Opta)
    • 19:45 ALAN PARDEW: "I think there's a trust from the terraces in what we're doing. Especially in the players that we have. That trust has come out in a number of areas this year that have seen us get victories. And you can't do that without the tremendous backing that we've got here. I think they see that we're trying to do it the right way, approaching the game in the right style, and hopefully producing football that makes them want to come back every week. The support helps when bad days come."
    • 19:45 TONY PULIS: "We've got a difficult week. For the game to be put back to Monday is disappointing for us because we then have to play Thursday and then Sunday again so we have virtually no rest at all. But you can't take the money and then argue about the fixtures and when they're played. Because it's such a difficult week, I will look at the situation closely this week. We play Monday, then we're flying Wednesday, flying back after the game and we've a game against Bolton on Sunday."
    • 19:40 35 goals scored on the weekend across nine Premier League games. Remarkable numbers - will we see more added tonight? If you missed any of those goals, you can watch them again here (UK users only)
    • 19:35 Strong sides named by both managers. Tiote has not made the squad for Newcastle after failing to recover from that knee problem, so Danny Guthrie gets the nod. And Shola Ameobi's brother Sammy is a surprise inclusion on the bench for the Magpies, with Best and Ba linking up front. Stoke beef up their side with England internationals Woodgate and Crouch, while Upson starts on the bench.
    • 19:30 STOKE: Begovic, Wilkinson, Shawcross, Woodgate, Wilson, Pennant, Delap, Whelan, Etherington, Walters, Crouch - Subs - Sorensen, Huth, Jones, Whitehead, Upson, Jerome, Palacios /// NEWCASTLE: Krul, Simpson, Steven Taylor, Coloccini, Ryan Taylor, Obertan, Guthrie, Cabaye, Gutierrez, Best, Ba - Subs - Elliot, Santon, Ben Arfa, Perch, Gosling, Marveaux, Shola Ameobi
    • 19:25 NEWCASTLE: Alan Pardew could include midfielder Cheik Tiote and defender Steven Taylor in his starting line-up. Taylor, who broke his nose in last weekend's 1-0 victory over Wigan, is the more likely to play, possibly with a mask, while Tiote is battling to recover from a knee injury. One player who will definitely be absent is striker Shola Ameobi, who has been ruled out for at least a month with a hamstring problem.
    • 19:25 STOKE: Jonathan Woodgate could start against his former club after returning to the Stoke side for Wednesday's Carling Cup match with Liverpool. Woodgate played the full 90 minutes of the 2-1 defeat having missed the previous three games with a calf injury, while Jermaine Pennant might also be involved having appeared as a second-half replacement against the Reds following a hamstring injury. Danny Higginbotham, out since April with a serious knee injury, is on the comeback trail.
    • 19:20 Newcastle United remain unbeaten in the top flight this season and hold fourth spot. A point will lift them above Chelsea, but Stoke, who've impressed at home this season, should provide a stern test. Premier League table
    • 19:15 Good evening everyone and welcome to Eurosport-Yahoo!'s live text commentary of Stoke City v Newcastle United in the Premier League.
