    • 90+4' FULL-TIME: Spurs do enough, get the win, and go back up to third. They deserved it too, riding out the bad news about injuries to Lennon and Bale. Could have been more, but it's the result which matters. Sunderland lack attacking bite - but that's nothing Martin O'Neill won't know already. Table
    • 90+4' Adebayor thinks he should have a free-kick after being held up in the D. But Sunderland not punished, and Sunderland go forward again.
    • 90+3' Wlaker and Modric combine to get the ball clear - until Gardner picks the Croatian's pocket.
    • 90+2' Sunderland throwing bodies forward here, Spurs need to ride out this storm.
    • 90' Four minutes of added time scheduled.
    • 89' Van der Vaart off, Rose on. A chance for the Dutchman to hear some deserved applause.
    • 88' BENDTNER WIDE! It would have been a sensational volley if he'd stuck it in, but he skews his shot wide.
    • 87' If Sunderland stage a comeback from this position, it would be hard to say they've deserved it. Spurs comfortably the better side.
    • 86' NOW PAVLYUCHENKO CLOSE! He swaps passes with Modric and fires a decent shot at goal from 20 yards - but it whistles just past the post.
    • 85' ADEBAYOR! CLOSE! He skims past two defenders on the flank, sets his course towards goal and forces a stop from Westwood!
    • 84' Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of victory and thus 34 points from their first 15 Premier League matches of the season. This would be their joint second best start to a top flight season with the season 1956/1957. The only better start was achieved in 1960/1961 when they won 14 and drew one of their first 15. (Infostrada)
    • 83' Gallas cuts down a useful Bendtner flick-on and gets Tottenham back in possession. Time running out in this Premier League clash.
    • 82' Sandro off after a good game, Livermore replacing him.
    • 81' Not quite enough room for the Dutchman to get the kick up and down - Gardner heads it clear from the wall.
    • 81' Bramble commits a foul right on the line of the penalty area. Half an inch closer to goal and it would have been a spot kick. Still a chance for Spurs, mind.
    • 80' O'Shea tries a cross as Sunderland make a rare foray forward. Out come Spurs once more, fired by Friedel's quick throw out.
    • 79' Assou-Ekotto delivers a dreadful ball from a good position. Really disappointing effort.
    • 78' What a brilliant effort from Assou-Ekotto - he jinks this way and that before cutting back an inviting pass from the left hand side. There's no Spurs player to finish it off, however. Spurs unable to add the second goal which would kill this game.
    • 77' Van der Vaart has been the player of the match so far, but he's worn one in the midriff for his troubles there - Modric tries a shot at goal from distance, and catches Rafa flush. Ow.
    • 76' Pavlyuchenko has now scored nine goals for Tottenham Hotspur after starting the match on the bench. This is the most by any Premier League player since the beginning of the 2008/2009 season, the season in which the Russian joined Spurs. (Infostrada)
    • 75' Gardner on for Colback - that's all of Sunderland's changes made.
    • 74' Bendtner in some space but picked off and Spurs break. Van der Vaart releases Assou-Ekotto with a quite extraordinary crossfield pass. Spurs might have done better with the resulting chance.
    • 73' Walker tries a shy from distance. It's a horrible effort, but it takes a deflection and wins the home side a corner.
    • 72' Sandro puts in another superb tackle. He's stopped a number of Sunderland moves, particularly since the break.
    • 71' Modric picks out Van der Vaart, but his first-time shot on the edge of the area lacks power.
    • 70' Sessegnon on a bursting run after robbing Sandro, but the Brazilian tracks back to cover up his error.
    • 69' Sunderland swap James McClean on for Bardsley.
    • 68' MODRIC MISSES! HUGE CHANCE TO MAKE IT TWO! It was a brilliant move with Van der Vaart teeing up Adebayor. Great shot from Adebayor, even better save from Westwood. Straight into Modric's path, but on the half volley it goes narrowly over. Open goal, but not quite (quite) as simple as it looked.
    • 66' Vaughan brings down Pavlyuchenko, who had danced his way around him. Yellow for Vaughan, very good opportunity for Spurs.
    • 65' Walker has been a bit careless at the back on occasion, but has looked a livewire up front. He may be an answer at right wing if Spurs are without Lennon for a while.
    • 64' Wonderful tracking back from Adebayor, and a surging run down the wing. In this kind of mood, the Togolese striker really is one of the best players in the league.
    • 63' Sunderland staged a fightback last weekend at home to Blackburn - this is an altogether stiffer challenge.
    • 62' Roman Pavlyuchenko scores his first Premier League goal of the season and his first for nearly seven months. His last three PL goals have all been scored after coming on as a substitute. (Infostrada)
    • 61' GOAL! SPURS IN FRONT! PAVLYUCHENKO SCORES IT! A lovely move from Spurs, made by a super pass from Van der Vaart and a no-nonsense low finish from the Russian. He'd been quiet until then, but he has swung the game the way of the hosts.
    • 60' The noise level at White Hart Lane has gone up - the play is going end to end.
    • 59' Nice move all of a sudden - Bendtner to Sessegnon to Colback, but the youngster cannot get his shot away under pressure.
    • 58' Bendtner looking about as isolated as Wickham was in the first half.
    • 57' Spurs just ratcheting up the pressure now - Adebayor close to getting a header at point-blank range, but the ball wriggles on for a throw. Sunderland clear, but it comes back for a corner.
    • 56' VAN DER VAART CLOSE! His shot from edge of the area takes deflection that beat Westwood and very nearly crept in at the far post! Corner to Spurs.
    • 55' Nice move from Spurs - Modric the ball-carrier, laying the ball off to Parker, who tries an ultimately unsuccessful one-two with Adebayor.
    • 54' Hope for fans of goals: It is more than eight months since Tottenham Hotspur last recorded a goalless draw in the Premier League. (Infostrada)
    • 53' Bendtner eased off the ball and Parker takes the ball upfield for Spurs. Sunderland's bright start to the second half just fading a touch now.
    • 52' Bardsley gives away a throw near the corner flag - Walker takes it quickly, Adebayor hooks it on, and almost fashions a chance.
    • 51' And one for Sunderland now - cheap yellow for Richardson, who gives away a foul on Modric.
    • 50' Yellow for Assou-Ekotto - comprehensively outfoxed by Vaughan on the right, and punished for bringing the midfielder down.
    • 49' Poor delivery from Larsson, really disappointing. But his side have had the better (just) of the early second half exchanges.
    • 48' Another clumsy tackle from Walker - not the first - and this time on Bendtner. Larsson again in prime position to whip a cross in.
    • 47' Great run and shot from Vaughan! Flashbacks to his wonderful goal last week as he unleashes from range, but Friedel has the measure of this one.
    • 46' The second half begins! All to play for at White Hart Lane.
    • - Change for Sunderland - Bendtner replaces Wickham - wouldn't be surprised if that's injury-related.
    • - From OptaJoe on Twitter: 45 - Tottenham failed to have a shot on target in the 1st half of a PL home game for the 1st time since Aug 08 (1-2 vs Sunderland). Stumped
    • - If you're looking for something to do while waiting for the second half, why not join me, Mark Patterson, on Twitter?
    • 45+3' HALF TIME: Poor delivery, too low from Larsson - and the referee immediately blows for half-time. Spurs started well, Sunderland came back into it, but neither side could make the breakthrough. The biggest news is Lennon limping off with what looked like a hamstring problem. All to play for in the second half.
    • 45+3' Walker penalised for a challenge not far from the penalty area on Bardsley. Clumsy and unnecessary, and one more chance for the visitors before the break.
    • 45+2' Spurs very comfortable in possession until Sandro tries a long ball out to the right and it goes out of play.
    • 45+1' Three minutes of added time at the end of the first half.
    • 45' PAVLYUCHENKO CLOSE! Dangerous cross from Parker, brave punched clearance from Westwood, and it bounces off the striker and wide. Not much the Russian could have done differently!
    • 44' Seen very little of Roman Pavlyuchenko since he came on, but it's a great chance to prove his worth.
    • 43' Bramble tucks a clearance away, but hints that Spurs are just getting back on to the front foot.
    • 42' Harry Redknapp pacing the touchline at the moment. He'll be frustrated that Spurs have gone off the boil, but losing Lennon (and Bale before the game) was a big blow.
    • 41' Richardson shapes one in with the left-foot, but far too well struck, and out straight for a goal-kick.
    • 40' Sunderland getting themselves back into the game as we near the end of the first half. King gives away a foul in a useful position for a set piece.
    • 39' CLOSE! Larson's free-kick was full of curl and on target, but Friedel gets across to make the save.
    • 38' Gallas bundles into Wickham from behind as he heads the ball. Free-kick for the visitors, and this is firmly in Larsson territory.
    • 37' Wonderful skills from Modric to play in Assou-Ekotto - his ball is decent, but Sunderland defend it well.
    • 36' Wickham has managed to run off that clash for now, and is back leading the line for Sunderland.
    • 35' Only Manchester United (18) and Chelsea (17) have scored more first half goals in this season’s Premier League than Tottenham Hotspur (14). (Infostrada)
    • 34' There have been only four Premier League matches this season in which Tottenham Hotspur have failed to score a first half goal. They lost three of them. (Infostrada)
    • 33' SUNDERLAND CHANCE! Sessegnon lays the ball off to Larsson, who slides a low ball in that Richardson so nearly gets on the end of. Sunderland have ridden the early Spurs pressure, and created a good chance of their own there.
    • 32' Ouch - Wickham has gone down challenging for the ball with Walker. Walker himself a little sore after that one. Wickham hobbling off, looking at his foot, and his match could be over.
    • 31' Walker's low cross is flicked up by Adebayor, and Larsson has to be composed to pop a header back to his goalkeeper from close range. Sunderland safe.
    • 30' Good hit from Richardson, who cuts in from the left and hits the ball from outside the area with his right foot. Friedel had a save to make - a first in this match.
    • 29' Assou-Ekotto tries to whip a cross in from deep, O'Shea shepherds it out for a goal kick.
    • 28' Impassioned touchline instructions from O'Neill. Can his players respond?
    • 27' Parker industrious as ever, wins a throw by the corner flag after another powerful run.
    • 26' A pause in play here as the substitute is organised. It's Roman Pavlyuchenko who gets the nod. Spurs could have turned to Kranjcar or Pienaar instead.
    • 25' Modric sees his corner cleared out by Brown. Lennon signals that he wants to come off.
    • 24' Parker takes Spurs forward, but Lennon appears to be in trouble - he's feeling his hamstring and looking a bit sore.
    • 23' Lennon finds his way down the right hand side, but cannot get his cross in. He looks as if he might have hurt himself surging down the wing, however.
    • 22' Adebayor caught offside - and not for the first time. Sunderland afforded a rare moment of possession.
    • 21' Wickham gets a head to Westwood's long goal-kick, but it goes straight to Friedel. Sunderland very short on ideas.
    • 20' Adebayor looks to spin around the outside of Bramble, but the ball goes too far beyond him to control.
    • 19' Cattermole and Bendtner may not be left on the subs' bench for the duration of this match - they've not controlled midfield, and so have been toothless up front so far.
    • 18' Darting run from Lennon, right through the middle this time. Westwood does well to smother the ball when it comes his way.
    • 17' Bit of confusion about who the ball came off last, but it looks as if it's Sandro, so Westwood can launch the ball out of the Sunderland half.
    • 16' Pockets of space for Van der Vaart to work in - Martin O'Neill has plenty to do to shore up the Sunderland defence. Corner for the home side, which Modric will take.
    • 15' SANDRO CLOSE! Made by Van der Vaart, who drops deep and picks out Sandro's run - but the Brazilian's shot is wide. Would have been a super move and goal if it had been on target.
    • 14' Modric and Adebayor link up, and the move ends with a Spurs throw by the left-hand corner flag. All the home side at the moment.
    • 13' Ranging ball forward from Modric looks to interest Lennon, but it's too far in front of him for the winger to reel in. Lennon a whole lot quicker to react than his marker, Bardsley, however.
    • 12' Prior to today’s matches, Tottenham Hotspur had had the most shots on target (152) in this season’s Premier League. (Infostrada)
    • 11' SPURS CLOSE! Assou-Ekotto hits a firm shot which looks as if it might just be missing the far post, Van der Vaart gets his body in the way in attempt to knock it goalwards, but the ball goes out on the other side. Good signs from the home team so far, though.
    • 10' Good strong challenge from Sandro to stop Sessegnon and get Spurs on the move.
    • 9' Cheeky from Friedel, who chests a throw-in back to him down before belting it clear.
    • 8' Assou-Ekotto and Sandro link up on the left, but O'Shea comes around to protect Sunderland and deny the full-back a chance to cross.
    • 7' @KayyColani is following from Johannesburg on Twitter and says: Come on you Spurs! If we wanna threaten the big guns, a win is vital! Have your say
    • 6' Nice control from Adebayor, and a purposeful run from halfway, but the inside pass to Lennon is misplaced as the winger stays fixed to the touchline.
    • 5' Sandro with an errant pass and Spurs give away possession. Did I just hear the home fans groan?
    • 4' Bramble not required - Larsson's delivery is too low, easily cleared by the first line of defence.
    • 3' Free-kick on the left for the visitors which Larsson predictably sets up. Bramble trudges upfield to be an attacking option.
    • 2' Victory today and Spurs would jump back into third place, with a game in hand on temporary table-toppers Manchester United. Standings
    • 1' Game on at White Hart Lane! Referee Mike Dean blows the whistle to get us under way.
    • 14:59 Got any comments on the game? Why not join me, Mark Patterson, on Twitter?
    • 14:58 Nicklas Bendtner and Lee Cattermole both on the bench today after their midweek arrest. The right decision from O'Neill?
    • 14:57 Spurs 34 wins, Sunderland 34 wins, 26 draws in their all-time head-to-head. But Spurs are the favourites these days.
    • 14:56 No Bale for Spurs today - he injured his ankle in training, though he is expected to be fit for Thursday. Sandro in the line-up for the home side.
    • 14:55 Players coming out on to the field now. A very cold day in north London.
    • 14:50 Sunderland have won just one of their last seven Premier League away matches (Opta). But will that count for much as they enjoy the new manager bounce?
    • 14:45 ON THIS DAY: Both teams have scored in Tottenham Hotspur’s last eight top flight fixtures on December 18th, and all but one of their 14 top flight matches on this date. The sole exception was a 0-0 draw at Liverpool 40 years ago. (Infostrada)
    • 14:40 Would Sunderland fans be happy to have Asamoah Gyan back? Martin O'Neill: "The chief executive gave me his number, I haven't had a chance to call it. Really, it was just a matter of me introducing myself to him as much as anything else and finding out how the land lies.
    • 14:35 REDKNAPP AS SCROOGE: "No more Christmas parties. We are too busy playing football, we have too many games and they have to concentrate on playing and getting on with their football. If they can't behave themselves, if they can't miss having a drink with the money they are earning there is something wrong with them."
    • 14:30 TOTTENHAM: Friedel, Walker, Gallas, King, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Parker, Sandro, Modric, Adebayor, Van der Vaart - Subs: Cudicini, Pavlyuchenko, Bassong, Kranjcar, Rose, Livermore, Pienaar - SUNDERLAND: Westwood, O'Shea, Brown, Bramble, Bardsley, Larsson, Colback, Vaughan, Richardson, Wickham, Sessegnon - Subs: Carson, Cattermole, Gardner, Ji, McClean, Elmohamady, Bendtner
    • 14:25 TEAM NEWS: Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill could have three more players at his disposal. Skipper Lee Cattermole is available after suspension, while striker Nicklas Bendtner and midfielder Craig Gardner have returned to training after groin and hamstring problems respectively. Keeper Craig Gordon played in a training ground game earlier in the week, as did striker Fraizer Campbell (knee), although the latter is still some way from joining in with the main group.
    • 14:20 TEAM NEWS: Tottenham have defender Younes Kaboul suspended for Sunday's Barclays Premier League game against Sunderland following his red card at Stoke last weekend. Scott Parker, Luka Modric, Emmanuel Adebayor, Gareth Bale and Kyle Walker are all set to return after sitting out the Europa League victory over Shamrock Rovers. Spurs are sweating over the fitness of centre-back Ledley King, who has missed the last two games with a knee injury. Tom Huddlestone and Michael Dawson both out.
