    • 90+4' Well, that was tough going. It ends goalless. Aston Villa move out of the relegation zone (just). Arsenal stay sixth.
    • 90+3' Last chance for Arsenal as Coquelin comes forward down the right... WORST CROSS OF ALL TIME!
    • 90+2' Best cross of the day from Jenkinson, who bends one to the back stick, but where there could be a Giroud, there's no-one.
    • 90+1' Paul Lambert has left his seat and jogged down a corridor. It would be funny if Arsenal scored now...
    • 90' Villa change: Marc Albrighton replaces Andreas Weimann.
    • 88' Cazorla's corner from the right is headed away at the near post, but there is a flag up anyway - did the ball go out before swinging back in? I presume so.
    • 88' Arshavin bends in a cross from the left, and Ciarna Clark makes a vital intervention to prevent Gervinho getting an easy chance!
    • 87' Off goes Giroud, who has had a tough night. Francis Coquelin replaces him.
    • 86' There was the chance! Gibbs pulls a cross back from the left but it is just in front of Giroud who stretches but cannot get there!
    • 85' Arsenal pass the ball around the edge of the box interminably. It's the 85th minute and I'm not sure they'll get a shot away before full-time.
    • 84' Arshavin crosses from the right, but it takes a touch off Clark and sails kindly into Guzan's arms.
    • 83' A Bannan corner is headed away at the near post, but goes out for a throw.
    • 81' Benteke bundles past Koscielny but he is all alone and Mertesacker calmly takes the ball off him.
    • 80' Villa remain on top as we go into the final 10 minutes. They fancy this and the crowd are involved...
    • 79' Holman tries to poke the ball through to Weimann but cannot thread his pass. Good phase for Villa, though.
    • 78' Holman!! Cracks a 25-yarder that Szczesny touches onto the crossbar - corner!
    • 77' Andrey Arshavin comes on for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
    • 76' Villa play on with Giroud down injured before the ball finally goes out of play. Meanwhile, Arshavin is about to come on.
    • 75' Ramsey appears to be sliding as he shoots, but gets surprisingly good contact and fires his shot just wide.
    • 74' Agbonlahor is face down on the turf again, this time after tangling with Jenkinson... free-kick Villa.
    • 73' Dangerous ball in from the right from Benteke... great work by Jenkinson who backjee;s the ball away from danger! Did he really mean that?
    • 71' That might be the worst touch any professional footballer has ever taken. Take a bow, Gervinho, who has just clogged it out for a goal kick.
    • 70' Ramsey's shot deflects over for a corner, which will be taken by Oxlade-Chamberlain, and cleared for an Arsenal throw.
    • 69' Lukas Podolski comes off, and Gervinho replaces him. Ah boo, he's taken the hat off.
    • 68' Gervinho is about to come on. And please, for comedy's sake, can he try to come on wearing the big fleecy hat that currently adorns his head.
    • 66' Great chance for Villa as Benteke drags the ball into space and finds Agbonlahor... fires straight at Szczesny!
    • 65' Another disappointing cross from Jenkinson. Again that side of his game lets him down.
    • 64' Szczesny plays a very sloppy, dangerous clearance from the back. Nearly gives the bakk away but Arsenal survive.
    • 63' Brett Holman is on for Villa... he's a useful player.
    • 62' Arteta swings in a corner, it's flicked on by Giroud and Jenkinson skies his shot at the far post! Another big chance!
    • 61' Cross from the Villa right... into the gloves of Szczesny who makes a confident catch despite the rain.
    • 60' Villa win a corner on the opposite flank, and Bannan has to run all the way across the pitch - then another corner on the opposite side again, and back goes Bannan.
    • 59' Benteke's shot hits a defender and loops out of play for a corner.
    • 58' Arsene Wenger has just sworn audibly on the telly. In English. Frustration.
    • 57' As Arsenal look to liven things up, Gervinho and Arshavin warm up...
    • 56' Oxlade-Chamberlain beats Clark down the right and crosses low for Ramsey, who fires wide under intense pressure.
    • 54' Ron Vlaar is suffering from a calf complaint, incidentally.
    • 53' Villa free-kick 40 yards from goal, Westwood and Bannan standing over it... Bannan delivers it, Clark meets it but shins the ball out for a goal kick.
    • 52' Giroud goes for goal from inexplicably long range and it's a hopeless effort. A soaking Arsene Wenger yells furiously.
    • 51' Villa making a change: Eric Lichaj on for the injured Ron Vlaar.
    • 50' More nice football from Arsenal as they move the ball slickly... until the ball hits Giroud on the heel and the Frenchman hauls back a Villa man. Free-kick.
    • 49' Podolski is set free down the left.... he has ages to cross, but it's a poor deliver into the hands of Guzan.
    • 48' Cazorla! Great interplay with Giroud, and he smacks a left-foot shot narrowly high and wide from the edge of the box.
    • 47' This is the 10th time in the last 11 PL matches that Villa have kept a first half clean sheet. They have only kept two PL clean sheets all season.
    • 46' Right, away we go. Second half under way with no personnel changes from either side.
    • 46' Here's cause for optimism from the lovely OptaJoe: There has been a goal scored in the 87th minute or later in 7 of the last 9 Premier League games between Arsenal & Aston Villa. Patience
    • 45+2' That's half-time. Classic it's not. Back in a few minutes.
    • 45+1' Jenkinson has another cross blocked. That will be it for the first half, surely.
    • 45' Just one minute of stoppage time to be played.
    • 43' What a chance for Koscielny! He peels away from his marker and turns to fire over left-footed from eight yards!
    • 42' El Ahmadi has a chance to cross from the right... it's weak and Szczesny coms out to claim.
    • 41' Oxlade-Chamberlain is fouled on the Arsenal right, and Arteta will deliver the free-kick... which is headed out for an Arsenal throw.
    • 40' Arsenal bring it forward, working the ball over to Oxlade-Chamberlain on the right... he is dispossessed.
    • 39' Now Villa want a penalty after a tackle by Mertesacker on Agbonlahor... no, that was perfectly timed.
    • 38' Goal disallowed for Villa! Bannan plays the free-kick short to Clark who fires a low shot into a sea of boddies. It drops to Weimann who puts the ball away, but he has been flagged offside. Good decision.
    • 36' Szczesny slides and carries the ball out of his box! It clearly wasn't deliberate so no card, but a promising free-kick for Villa.
    • 35' Back with Arsenal again, down the right with Ox and Jenkinson... again the full-back's cross is not great.
    • 34' Arsenal knock the ball around relentlessly sideways, and fail to build to an attempt on goal.
    • 32' Podolski goes in late on Agbonlahor. Treads on the Villa man's ankle. Pod does that thing of trying to pull up his opponent even though he would rather stay down.
    • 31' It has been a dreary match, but just to give you some hope: In their last PL matches Arsenal scored five goals (v Tottenham) and Aston Villa conceded five (v Man City).
    • 30' Jenkinson is well forward down the right again, but is delivery is not up to the standards of Bacary Sagna, the man he is standing in for today.
    • 28' Arsenal go close as they play the ball around the Villa box - Ramsey shifts the ball on to his right foot and gets a shot away, which Guzan saves with his legs.
    • 27' Mertesacker is down holding his neck and left shoulder. And it's hard to see how he did that... wasn't an aerial challenge.
    • 26' The ball nearly drops for Podolski in the Villa box, but he cannot get a shot away.
    • 25' It has been a slow start from the visitors, man of whose fans are getting absolutely soaking wet at the front of the stand by the pitch.
    • 24' Arteta slips on the wet turf and needs a Gibbs intervention to help him out. The Spaniard looks accusatorily at his boots.
    • 22' El Ahmadi goes down just outside the Arsenal box. It looks a fairly blatant dive and referee Lee Mason agrees - yellow card for the Villa man.
    • 21' Oxlade-Chamberlain weaves inside from the right and hits a low shot with his weaker left foot... it goes wide.
    • 20' And with 19 minutes gone, Villa Park delivers a rousing minute's applause for Stiliyan Petrov. It's a lovely gesture.
    • 19' Jenkinson marauds down the right... but overhits his cross out for a throw on the other side.
    • 19' This time the corner does find a target - the leaping Benteke, but he cannot direct his corner on target.
    • 18' Gibbs puts the ball behind for another Villa corner - from the right side, this time.
    • 17' Arsenal have enjoyed 63 per cent possession so far, but it is definitely Villa having the better of the game.
    • 16' Bannan hits a curling 35-yarder. It's a good hit, but from that distance it would have to be a wonder strike to beat Szczesny.
    • 15' El Ahmadi crosses from the right... again he cannot find a target. But this is promising from Villa.
    • 14' Bannan's corner goes over the head of Benteke and out for an Arsenal throw.
    • 13' Weimann drills a powerful cross from wide on the left, and Szczesny pushes it behind for a corner!
    • 11' Arsenal are trying to get the ball down and play, but the wet conditions are making life difficult. Villa more direct, and probably more effective so far.
    • 10' Barry Bannan delivers an inswinging free-kick from the Villa right... it has a nice shape, but nobody can make proper contact with it.
    • 9' Aston Villa have scored in each of their last seven PL matches at Villa Park, but they have won only one of them.
    • 8' Not a bad start from Villa, though there has been basically no goalmouth action at either end. And the conditions are not likely to improve any time soon.
    • 7' Enda Stevens cannot control a long crossfield ball from right to left...
    • 5' Agbonlahor sprints through the middle and is eventually dispossessed some 35 yards from the Arsenal goal.
    • 4' The corner comes to nothing. It's soaking out there. Horrible evening. Santi Cazorla looks especially cold.
    • 3' Lots of space for Giroud on the left... his cross is put behind for a corner.
    • 2' Paul Lambert is serving a touchline ban, so can be found huddling out of the rain at the back of the stadium.
    • 1' Off we go! Arsenal kick off, playing from right to left in their yellow change shirts with burgundy shorts. Villa in claret and blue. So that;s two types of wine. Referee Lee Mason is in shiraz with chardonnay trim.
    • 17:25 There were some thrillers in the 3pm kick-offs - if you're not up to date, visit our score centre for all the results. Premier League scores and scorers
    • 17:20 Only Barcelona’s Xavi (1152) has made more passes than Mikel Arteta (1104) in Europe’s big five leagues this season.
    • 17:15 Aston Villa have won none of their last 13 Premier League home games against Arsenal (D6 L7).
    • 17:10 Arsene Wenger on the dangerous Christian Benteke: "Benteke gave Manchester United a rough time [two weeks ago]. He is, completely, a typical English-style centre-forward, which has disappeared a little bit. But you still have players like [Grant] Holt [at Norwich City], who are typical English centre-forwards. Benteke is one of them."
    • 17:05 Paul Lambert: "The bottom three is not where I want to be, that's for sure. Myself, the club or the fans don't want to be there or near that. But I also know the bigger picture and it's not just a quick fix. It's the big picture we are trying to rectify. It's a results business, something I will never shy away from and the responsibility is mine and what will happen, will happen. It's at the end where you will be judged."
    • 17:00 Aston Villa make one change with Karim El Ahmadi coming back into the side for Stephen Ireland.
    • 16:55 Three changes for Arsenal from the side that beat Montpellier. Defenders Carl Jenkinson and Kieran Gibbs, and midfielder Aaron Ramsey come in with Thomas Vermaelen, Bacary Sagna and Jack Wilshere dropping to the bench.
    • 16:50 Aston Villa: Guzan; Lowton, Vlaar, Clark, Stevens; El Ahmadi, Westwood, Bannan, Weimann; Agbonlahor, Benteke. Subs: Given, Ireland, Albrighton, Holman, Delph, Bowery, Lichaj. Arsenal Szczesny; Jenkinson, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Gibbs; Arteta, Ramsey, Cazorla, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Podolski, Giroud. Subs: Sagna, Vermaelen, Wilshere, Coquelin, Arshavin, Mannone, Gervinho

  1. This rubbish has been going on for far too long...get rid of Wenger and Gazidis....NOW!

  2. the weather played a big part in this game

From Adam, on Sun 25 Nov 2:30
  3. Boring mid-table fare

From Tartan, on Sat 24 Nov 21:37
  4. Described as a "bore draw"??? I thought it was full of action. Certainly none of the players had a chance to rest for even a moment. For Villa this has to be seen as the start of the season after a run of incredibly tough games. We have a convincing defense (unless linesmen give away penalties that only they can see), and the team are fighting harder than any Villa side I've seen in the last 2 years. If only someone could partner up with Gabby we could be getting goals. I'm glad to see that everyone believes in Lambert. He has transformed a few inexperienced kids into a reasonable side. A couple more inspired buys like Benteke and we could really start to worry other clubs. UTV!

  5. arsenal should be beating this sort of sides

From Michael, on Sat 24 Nov 20:26
  6. I think we could have made the observations in advance of this game. When Ramsey plays we are too slow and easily crowded out by any well organised team which Lambert teams usually are. Gervinho has tricks but no football brain and is impossible for his team mates to read. When he came on he contributed nothing. Both strikers removed??? Only the defence emerged with any credit this evening. We have no pace without Walcott and Alex seems to have lost confidence. We must sign at least 2 players of pace, power and class or settle for 5th or 6th

From Fullofgas, on Sat 24 Nov 19:58
  7. Arsenal = Jekyll and Hyde club.

    From no-one-is-no-one, on Sat 24 Nov 19:54
  8. Good game from Aston Villa. The close down was superb and Arsenal could only control the middle in the first 10mins. Arsenal were casual and uninspiring as usual, most culprits being Ramsey-lacklustre performance and poor positioning and Jenkinson- giving balls away too often. As an Arsenal fan, I always expect the worst in any game Ramsey is one of the starting middle 3. It was apparent we didn't have a game plan; or at least, a winning formular. This squad do not come across as a world beater.

From Francis, on Sat 24 Nov 19:43
  9. Yet again Arsenal proving they are erratic in their wins. Arsene should definitely go. They will never be able to come from behind as many times as Man U do. They simply do not have the guts to do so. They are too softie in their tactics!

From Jaroslaw, on Sat 24 Nov 19:36
  10. Well done Villa! Good result! Up the Villa from Greece!!!

From Sammi, on Sat 24 Nov 19:33
  11. After watchjng Arsenal for over 65 years, this must be the poorest team ever, no leadership and to have only 2 shots on target in 93 mins is a disgrace, no euro football next year and at this rate we will be in a relegation battle soon.

From HAROLD, on Sat 24 Nov 19:32
  12. boring boring arsenal

    From J, on Sat 24 Nov 19:31
  13. It's a shame, but Arsenal have now become a very ordinary team. I feel sorry for their fans who pay the highest ticket prices in the Premier League when they're at home.

From Ronald, on Sat 24 Nov 19:31
  14. send wenger to a dementia care home. he has lost it and is way out of his depth!

  15. absolutely without inventiveness !!! - poor performance !!! - look forward to see rosicky back into game !!!

From Jiri, on Sat 24 Nov 19:29
  16. Could be worse gunners. You will still be ahead of spurs tomorrow unless they win 12-0

From John, on Sat 24 Nov 19:28
  17. The only time things are going to change is when we don't qualify for the CL.Hopefully that will come this season.

From warisraw, on Sat 24 Nov 19:27
  18. It's a shame, but Arsenal have now become a very ordinary team. No longer one of the 'greats'.

From Ronald, on Sat 24 Nov 19:27
  19. Arsenal couldn`t hit a cows #$%$ with a stick, how are the in 6th place, they just didn`t want it enough, Mr Wenger is going to have to spend some of that money. Personally I would make them all walk home give them time to think if football is really a good career move.

From Chrissie, on Sat 24 Nov 19:26
  20. Surely Arsenal not even look for win How come they change Giroud for Coquelin when they need goals....
