    • 90+8' FULL TIME. Ridiculous. Suarez bites Ivanovic then goes on to score an equaliser seven minutes into added time. What a crazy match. Suarez hogs the headlines as always.
    • 90+7' GOAL! Liverpool 2-2 Chelsea! Suarez scores in the seventh minute of injury time with a header! You could not make this up!
    • 90+5' Time running out for Liverpool now. They have fought gamely but given Suarez's behaviour it would be a shame if they got anything out of the game.
    • 90+3' Henderson tries to dig out a shot after a pass from Suarez but can't get his feet set right.
    • 90+2' Shelvey lashes a shot over the bar from 20 yards as Liverpool desperately search for an equaliser.
    • 90+1' We will have six added minutes.
    • 90' A late change for Chelsea as Mata is replaced by Frank Lampard.
    • 89' Stat from Infostrada: "In November 2010, the Dutch FA awarded Luis Suarez a seven match ban for biting PSV’s Otman Bakkal. He did not play another League game for the club."
    • 87' Trouble erupts after Sturridge commits a poor challenge on Bertrand, catching the Chelsea man late. Could have been a red.
    • 86' Gerrard gets a shot away but Cech holds on as Chelsea continue to resist the home side.
    • 85' CHANCE FOR LIVERPOOL! How did Shelvey not score that? Sturridge with a sublime touch to find Gerrard and when the ball comes wide to the young midfielder he slots the ball wide. Had to score.
    • 83' Oscar isn't fit to continue after that challenge from Shelvey so he is replaced by Victor Moses.
    • 81' Shelvey is straight into the thick of things as he chops down Oscar to earn a booking.
    • 80' Downing replaced by Jonjo Shelvey in the Liverpool midfield.
    • 78' A change for Chelsea as Yossi Benayoun, formerly of Liverpool, replaces Hazard in the Chelsea midfield.
    • 77' Downing now cuts in from the right as the pressure increases on Chelsea. But he is off balance when he pulls the trigger.
    • 76' Lovely work from Sturridge as Liverpool win a corner from Azpilicueta. Nothing comes of it though.
    • 75' Here's Suarez again and he tries to thread a pass through the defence but fails.
    • 74' Right then, back to the match action for now, and Suarez forces Cech into a save with a firm drive.
    • 73' Sorry to dominate the chat with talk of this biting incident but it's going to be the big story of the game. Suarez is likely to be in big trouble.
    • 72' Suarez was banned for seven games in 2010 for biting PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal, but Jermain Defoe avoided punishment for doing the same to Javier Mascherano in 2006 as it was dealt with at the time by a referee.
    • 70' Incredible. Suarez must be banned for that, and probably for more than the usual three games. Completely unacceptable conduct.
    • 69' Replays show that Luiz Suarez BIT Ivanovic before that disagreement between the two. What an idiot. He was already on a booking.
    • 68' Suarez takes the free-kick but though he evades the ball, his effort flies wide.
    • 67' Free-kick on the edge of the box for Liverpool. Carragher was sure Luiz climbed all over him in the penalty area, but it was just outside.
    • 66' Suarez gets involved in a confrontation with Branislav Ivanovic - already on a booking remember. Both players get a talking to.
    • 65' Suarez pounces on a loose ball as Liverpool surge forward but they can't carve out a clear chance as Gerrard gets his legs in a tangle.
    • 64' Carragher goes into the book for a late challenge on Torres. A bit of retribution for leaving Anfield perhaps...
    • 63' Liverpool have a lot to do now.
    • 62' Stat from Infostrada: "Eden Hazard scores from the penalty spot. This was Chelsea’s 10th League penalty of the season, the most in the division (scored eight)."
    • 60' Chelsea now much the better side as Hazard causes problems and Mikel snaps into tackles.
    • 59' Not the first time, nor probably last, that Suarez has used his hand to notable effect in a football game. There was that incident at the World Cup, and then earlier this season in the FA Cup too.
    • 58' Hazard had to wait a long time to take that but kept his cool. He has a good record from the spot.
    • 57' GOAL! Liverpool 1-2 Chelsea! Hazard sticks the penalty away to give his side the lead once more. He sent Reina the wrong way.
    • 56' Suarez is booked. He put up his arm as Torres leapt for a header at the back post.
    • 55' PENALTY TO CHELSEA! Suarez handballs!
    • 55' A decent enough finish from Sturridge but that was all about the pass from Suarez. Just sublime. A perfect combination of vision and technique.
    • 54' And Lucas joins him in there when committing a foul in midfield.
    • 53' Azpilicueta is into the book for Chelsea.
    • 52' GOAL! Liverpool 1-1 Chelsea! Daniel Sturridge scores against his former side! Downing nicks the ball square for Suarez and he lofts a delightful pass over Luiz with a wonderful touch. Sturridge continues his run to poke the ball home.
    • 51' Liverpool threaten again from a Downing corner but Agger is penalised for a push on Ramires before his header forces Cech into a scrambling save at the far post.
    • 50' Mata swings in a corner from the right and after Reina punches away, Torres lashes the ball well off target on the volley. A ridiculous attempt if we are being honest.
    • 49' Torres does very well to lift the ball over his marker and almost get a shot away cleanly, before Oscar tries and fails to get the ball past Reina.
    • 48' Chelsea are all over the place at present. Liverpool's switch to a 4-4-2 with Suarez and Sturridge up front has unsettled them.
    • 47' LIVERPOOL HIT THE WOODWORK! Sturridge, who has leapt into this game with stunning effect, takes aim from 25 yards and rattles the outside of the post with a rasping drive!
    • 47' Almost an immediate impact as Sturridge cuts in from the right and plays a lovely ball in for Gerrard. He angles his shot towards the bottom corner, only to be denied by a fine save by Cech's toe.
    • 46' A change at the break for Liverpool as Daniel Sturridge replaces Coutinho.
    • 46' KICK OFF!
    • - What did you make of the first half? Let me know on Twitter now. Follow Tom Adams (@tomEurosport) on Twitter
    • 45+2' HALF TIME. Oscar's header gives Chelsea a 1-0 lead, with Liverpool unable to build on a promising start.
    • 45+1' Suarez gets another shot away from a tight angle but Cech blocks at his near post. Never any real danger of beating the Chelsea keeper from there.
    • 45' We will have one added minute.
    • 44' Chelsea look to be heading towards a first-half lead at the break. Liverpool have had more chances but Oscar's moment of magic is the difference at the moment.
    • 43' Stat from Infostrada: "Chelsea’s goal was their 21st opening goal of the season – more than any other side. They have won 15 of the 20 matches so far this season."
    • 41' CHANCE FOR LIVERPOOL! Downing plays in Suarez from a tight angle and, near the byline, he takes the ball on before lashing a shot down the throat of Cech, who bats it away.
    • 40' Downing moves into space 25 yards from goal and pulls the trigger, but his shot loops up off a deflection and doesn't trouble Cech.
    • 39' Oscar wins the ball in midfield and plays in Mata. He spots a run from fellow Spaniard Torres and rolls the ball into his path, but Reina races off his line to intercept and deny his international team-mates.
    • 37' Torres leaps into the air to challenge Carragher but leads with his arm and catches him with an elbow. That's a caution for the former Liverpool striker.
    • 36' The game has gone a bit flat and Suarez is seeing much less of the ball for Liverpool now.
    • 34' Nice approach play by Chelsea as they work the ball around the Liverpool box. However, Henderson is on hand to hoof the ball clear for the home side.
    • 33' Coutinho wriggles free on the left and gets a deflected cross into the box for Suarez, who helps the ball on with his head before seeing Cech grab hold of it.
    • 32' Stat from Opta: "Juan Mata has provided 12 assists in the Premier League this season, more than any other player."
    • 31' Henderson tries an outrageous turn for Liverpool. Obviously in confident mood.
    • 29' CHANCE FOR CHELSEA! Luiz takes the free-kick from 35 yards and Reina makes a horrible mess of his straight attempt, dropping the ball and almost allowing it to sneak over the line.
    • 28' Chelsea surge forward in search of a second and Henderson earns a booking when bringing down Mata.
    • 27' Stat from Infostrada: "Oscar scores his second PL goal of the season and first from open play – he scored a penalty in 8-0 home win v Aston Villa on December 23rd."
    • 26' GOAL! Liverpool 0-1 Chelsea! Oscar, of all people, with a header from a corner. The slender Brazilian comes off the front post to meet a delivery from the right and guides a lovely header into the top corner. Carragher too slow to spot him.
    • 25' Hazard also wafts once wide for Chelsea as another half chance passes.
    • 24' Lucas spreads the ball to Suarez but he loses his footing as he tries to turn past his man.
    • 23' Mikel chops into Suarez in midfield to concede a free-kick. The tempo has dropped a bit in the last 10 minutes or so.
    • 22' Luiz tries to loft a ball over the top - as he loves to do - but pumps it into space. A bit of a waste.
    • 21' Jamie Carragher looks rather unwieldy when dealing with a cross from the left wing but Reina tidies up.
    • 20' Hazard switches the ball quickly wide to Ramires and the midfielder thumps in a firm drive from 20 yards, with Reina punching away rather unconvincingly.
    • 19' Snappy work from Agger to win the ball back for Liverpool as Chelsea try a quick interchange. They have been better all over the pitch.
    • 18' In comes the corner but Liverpool fail to make anything of the set-piece.
    • 17' Nice move from Liverpool as Suarez backheels for Henderson and the midfielder wins a corner...
    • 16' Jose Enrique delivers a cross from the left but Chelsea head clear from the centre of the box.
    • 15' Liverpool will be happy with their start at Anfield. They've had the only real chances of the game and have prevented Chelsea from settling into a rhythm.
    • 14' Liverpool fans going through their repertoire of Istanbul songs - on a retro tip with Benitez here of course.
    • 13' Ramires and Mata aren't quite on the same wavelength as a move breaks down for Chelsea. Liverpool fans, meanwhile, belt out songs in support of Rafa Benitez.
    • 12' Stat from Opta: "Liverpool have won four and lost none of their last five Premier League meetings with Chelsea."
    • 11' Chelsea get the ball wide to Cesar Azpilicueta but he can't pick out a team-mate with a cross.
    • 10' Coutinho with a very Brazilian scoop in the box but Cech is alert to it and plucks the ball out of the air.
    • 9' An impressive, high-tempo start from Liverpool here at Anfield. Nothing much to shout about for Chelsea so far.
    • 8' A really poor goal-kick from Jose Reina as he punts the ball at Eden Hazard, but as Chelsea move it wide to Juan Mata the move fizzles out.
    • 7' Gerrard tries to pick out Suarez and the striker flicks the ball on with his head and against that of John Obi Mikel. The ball bounces out to Jordan Henderson and he belts his shot over the bar.
    • 6' Liverpool win a free-kick wide on the right...
    • 5' BIG CHANCE FOR LIVERPOOL! Johnson and Henderson involved in the build-up before Suarez slips through a fantastic pass for the advancing right-back. He beats Petr Cech to the ball but stabs it past the keeper and wide.
    • 4' Now Luiz lofts a pass over the top of the defence for Torres but the striker is caught offside when attempting to lose Agger.
    • 4' Torres looks perplexed as he is penalised for a foul on the defender though, and Liverpool have a free-kick. Agger limps away and Martin Skrtel warms up.
    • 3' Suarez on the hunt again - he looks lively - but David Luiz steps out well to take the ball away for Chelsea. At the other end, the boos ring out when Fernando Torres takes possession after a mistake from Daniel Agger.
    • 2' Lovely piece of chest control from Luis Suarez before Steven Gerrard distributes the ball right to Glen Johnson. He pops in a cross and Coutinho just fails to get on the end of the ball at the back post.
    • 1' KICK OFF! Liverpool attacking right to left.
    • 15:59 We also have a minute's applause for Anne Williams, who died this week after a lengthy fight for justice following the dead of her son Kevin at Hillsborough.
    • 15:58 Out comes Rafa and he gets lots of love from the Liverpool fans, handshakes and everything, before You'll Never Walk Alone.
    • 15:55 This is a big game for Chelsea in the race for fourth. They start the match in the final Champions League spot, though have a game in hand over Spurs, who are level on 61 points. Arsenal are two points ahead, though have played two more games than Rafa Benitez's side. Premier League table
    • 15:50 Lots of talk about Benitez returning to his former club, and rightly so. But Rodgers was also once employed by Chelsea as a youth coach and Fernando Torres, Daniel Sturridge and Yossi Benayoun have all played for both sides too.
    • 15:45 Ian Ayre continued: "...That doesn’t mean somebody else is picking the team for Brendan but Brendan needs to set out with his team of people which positions we want to fill and what the key targets would be for that. He has a team of people that go out and do an inordinate amount of analysis work to establish who are the best players in that position... It’s not a Moneyball strategy."
    • 15:45 Interesting comments this week from Liverpool chief exec on their transfer policy: "We have a head of analysis, a head of recruitment, a first-team manager, myself. All of those people are all inputting into a process [for buying players] that delivers what a director of football would deliver. What we believe, and we continue to follow, is you need many people involved in the process..."
    • 15:40 Tom Adams will be along to cover this game at 16:00 - let him know what you think about Rafa's return, whether you support Liverpool, Chelsea or neither - @tomEurosport Tom Adams on Twitter
    • 15:35 Rafa Benitez on his return to Liverpool: "I will be going back home because Liverpool is where my family live now. I was there for six years, I have very good memories so I cannot hide that I will be really pleased to go back to see a lot of friends. The main thing for us is to stay in the top three and to win at Liverpool - after that I wish them all the best..."
    • 15:30 Liverpool line up much as you'd expect - though personally I'd like to see Sturridge starting ahead of Downing. John Terry is back on the Chelsea bench after his two goals in midweek, while Frank Lampard also finds himself riding the pine. Or rather, the expensive rally seat.

Subs: Jones, Skrtel, Coates, Shelvey, Coady, Assaidi, Sturridge. // CHELSEA: Cech, Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Luiz, Bertrand, Ramires, Mikel, Hazard, Mata, Oscar, Torres... 1. Oh! What a vampire

From Temitope, on Mon 20 May 17:24
  2. I believe Benitez is seriously interested in the Liverpool job so he had to do what he did to make it easy for Liverpool to equalise. He broke down the Chelsea attacking machinery by his substitutions. He took out the play makers thereby breaking our front. Since Liverpool had nothing to fear in attacks from Chelsea they committed their men forward and their defence men as forward as to the centre line. I don't think the man is interested in seeing Chelsea in the champions league next season. Europa league glory will enhance his cv more. I see he does not want to prepare anything down for Jose Mourinho.

  3. 419. It is absolutely clear to everyone now that Brendan Rdgers does not have what it takes to managera club the size of Liverpool and probably does not have the pedigree to manage players like Suarez, Gerrard and Strurirdge who would have been head and shoulder above him in his playing days. Even players like Downing, Carragher, Johnson, Lucas, Agger, would have been too much for him. Why on earth he did not start with Sturridge was beyond me. And why did he take off Coutinho instead of the grossly appalling, diabolical and inept Henderson, only God could say. This man needs to be shown the red card at the end of the season otherwise he will drag Liverpool down further than where it is now. 6. Strange behaviour by Suarez. Obviously needs to sort his mind out quickly and focus on playing the great football he is capable of. Hope he can put this behind him and move on with Liverpool.

From Mark Bell, on Mon 22 Apr 13:10
  7. I don't think he actually bit him. He made an attempt, that much is clear in the replays. That is what the apology was probably for, for attempting to bite him. If he would have actually made contact then there would've been teeth marks on Ivanovic's arm and the referee would absolutely have sent Suarez off. Still, it's completely inexcusable and I would also point out that I've been a Reds fan since I was five so I am the opposite of someone biased against Liverpool. Still, I will admit a wry smile came across my face when Suarez netted that equaliser. Kevin Friend had an awful game. From the Torres elbow, the Suarez bite and even the rash challenge from Sturridge on Bertrand. I think the referee got all of those decisions wrong. Say what you want though about how he should never play again or get booted from the club, but Jamie Redknapp hit the nail on the head. This incident is no more or no less shocking and unacceptable as Eric Cantona karate kicking a fan. And he remained at Man Utd after that incident and nobody said a word about that fact because he was such a world class player.

From nick, on Mon 22 Apr 11:13
  8. To Paul If he did not bite him why did he apologise?

From Michael, on Mon 22 Apr 10:31
  9. What sort of message does this send out ? It does football a great diservice and puts people off from the game. They are always moaning about falling crowds, so stop this sort of thing happening by giving him a long ban then perhaps the club might think about sorting him out when they have to pay his wages for doing nothing

From Michael, on Mon 22 Apr 10:28
  10. Why does football insist on this shambolic method of timekeeping, why do they not adopt the way that rugby keeps time on their matches with the large clock that stops when injuries happen and then starts when the referee blows to resume the game, then there would be no argument about how much extra time needs to be played as the clock would give the exact time

From Michael, on Mon 22 Apr 10:23
  11. @Jack C Did YOU see the bite mark? well maybe the referee also saw no bite mark! because just maybe there wasn't one to see! He undoubtebly tried to bite him, but possibly did not succeed!

From paul, on Mon 22 Apr 10:21
  12. No red card for blatant hand no red card for biting Ivanorvich then scores important goal, who said cheats dont prosper

From Michael, on Mon 22 Apr 10:19
  13. Since referees can now stop games at their discretion, maybe some day, they may decide to bring the game to an end before 90mins if they're done for the day. I think Kevin Friend didn't make do with his watch at the closing minute of the game until the equalizing goal. We should advocate other technologies to check numerous avoidable flaws committed week-in, week-out in EPL 'cos goal-line tech or hawk-eye will only solve a meager 0.1% of these so-called mistakes. Thank you.

From Mickey, on Mon 22 Apr 9:00
  14. Liverpool Manager should chuck him out of the team and get him out of the country. The FA should not let him play anymore English Football again.

From Paul, on Mon 22 Apr 8:29
  15. @marek No, most people here don't hate Liverpool, nor Suarez. I can speak for myself only when I say that I do hate his behavior, sneakiness and general lack of respect of other players. He has done these things over and over in the past and always comes out saying "Oh I'm so sorry about what I did." Empty words as weeks later another controversy surrounds him. You too should be hating him because he wears your team's shirt, a shirt you should be proud of. His behavior is not worthy of the tradition and respect that shirt bestows upon a player. It makes Liverpool and all it's other players look bad in return. People like this, no matter how talented, do not belong on a pitch playing football.

From Gentlemen., on Mon 22 Apr 8:02

Ok people, lets get this straight. First off, as a longtime referee, I can tell you that 6 minutes of extra time means anywhere from 6:00 to 6:59. Got it? Look it up. Secondly, Suarez. Yikes. I can make 100 jokes about scouse tasting.like #$%$, but that is no excuse. The guy needs a ban. Lastly, Chelsea are a poor side, plain and simple.
