    • - Don't forget you can watch highlights of this match, along with every Premier League game, from 00:01 on Monday morning (UK only).
    • - What did you think of the match? Why not tell me, Mark Patterson on Twitter @Mark_Eurosport Follow here
    • 90+3' FULL TIME: City back to winning ways. A towering win. Sunderland tried gamely but were soon put in their place and the second half turned into a route. City up to second for now.
    • 90+2' James Milner scored his fifth career Premier League goal against Sunderland – his most against another club. In 2002, he became the then youngest ever PL scorer at 16 years and 356 days old when he netted against Sunderland. This record was later broken by James Vaughan. (Infostrada)
    • 90+1' AGUERO SHOULD MAKE IT FOUR! Through on goal, but took a touch too many and held it up, meaning that a despairing lunge denied him.
    • 90' Rodwell replaces Silva in the final City switch, and there are three extra minutes to play.
    • 89' THREE FOR CITY! MILNER! He takes the free kick and whips it goalwards, and Mignolet gets into a tangle trying to stop it. In the end it goes straight past him from a narrow angle. The misery complete for Sunderland.
    • 88' Yellow again! Gardner slices through Kolarov right on the edge of the Sunderland penalty area. Terrible challenge.
    • 87' Team news beginning to filter through for the 15:00 games - keep up with all the news here
    • 86' KOLAROV CLOSE! Powerful hit from the edge of the box, looks to have been blocked by a Sunderland hand, but nothing spotted by referee Lee Probert.
    • 86' Tevez off, Clichy on - City just closing this one out.
    • 85' Toure wins a corner after his low cross is deflected out of play. That allows Mancini to make another change...
    • 84' Lescott's header deflects a speculative hit from Gardner out for a corner.
    • 83' Final Sunderland switch - Campbell replaces Sessegnon, who was some way off his best.
    • 82' Zabaleta looks dead on his feet - City may have made this look easy, but they have had to work hard for it.
    • 81' Manchester City have scored in the final 20 minutes in four of their previous six Premier League matches this season (a total of five goals). (Infostrada)
    • 80' Yellow for Colback, who clipped Milner - perhaps that's also for a few challenges over the course of the match.
    • 79' Fletcher does now have an effort, drilled low from just outside the area, scooped up confidently by Hart.
    • 78' If this were a boxing match, it would have been stopped on a technical knockout. Sunderland just haven't fired back at City for a good quarter of an hour.
    • 77' Aguero plays the ball to Tevez, whose killer instinct has been lacking today. Effort blocked and Mignolet gets the ball away.
    • 76' Richards again on the corner - but this time he has to attempt an overhead kick to get near it. You scarcely need me to explain that he doesn't score it.
    • 75' Silva cutting through Sunderland at will - plays in Zabaleta whose cross is blocked for a corner.
    • 74' Colback under huge pressure from Silva has to give away a throw on the right in a dangerous position.
    • 74' Sunderland began the day unbeaten - but this has been a very chastening afternoon for Martin O'Neill's men.
    • 73' RICHARDS SO CLOSE AGAIN! Another header from a Silva corner - this time expertly saved by Mignolet low.
    • 71' Hart now called into action as McClean's header loops towards goal. Simple enough for England's number one.
    • 70' SILVA HITS THE BAR! Sunderland in total disarrary, Mignolet out of position, and Silva played back in to try and thread the ball over the defenders chasing back. It hits the woodwork and stays out.
    • 69' TEVEZ SHOULD MAKE IT THREE! Had space and time on the right, but dragged his shot just wide of the far post.
    • 68' Generous applause for Johnson as he comes from the City faithful.
    • 67' Second Sunderland switch - Saha replaces Johnson.
    • 66' City have a corner repelled on the edge of the area. Sunderland, after probing in the early stages of the half, have retreated into their shell.
    • 65' Remarkably, that goal means that only five City players in the Premier League era have scored more goals for City in the top flight than Aguero. (Opta)
    • 64' Barry very nearly on the end of a through ball by Silva. City have spent 45% of the second half in Sunderland's final third.
    • 64' That was Sergio Aguero's 25th Premier League goal for Manchester City since arriving last season. Only Robin van Persie (35) and Wayne Rooney (27) have netted more in the division since the start of the 2011-12 season. (Infostrada)
    • 63' That game, was at least, against Manchester City - that fabulous 3-3 draw at the Etihad last term.
    • 62' Has that strike settled the match? Aguero has been a handful since his introduction, and there was no stopping that one. Only in one in their last 12 away Premier League matches have Sunderland scored more than twice.
    • 61' Sunderland respond by bringing on Vaughan for Rose.
    • 60' GOAL! AGUERO MAKES IT TWO! The pressure had been building, and Kolarov is the provider, pinging a low ball in from the left and Aguero turns it past Mignolet at the near post.
    • 58' RICHARDS! Meets another corner, and steers this header towards the far post - Mignolet leaps to grab it. How long can we go without a second goal here? It's been wide open.
    • 56' That was Balotelli's last chance to get on the scoresheet - Aguero replaces him.
    • 55' BALOTELLI SHOULD SCORE! It's a breathtaking cross from Kolarov, low, shaped in to Balotelli, and it leaves the defence stranded. But Balotelli cannot make contact - any contact at all, and it would surely have beaten Mignolet.
    • 54' "I got a feeling Steven Fletcher will score in this game as he did in all his games" reckons Fahim - "I think City will get another thruogh Balotelli. 2 0 city victory" says Amex9423 - all to play for, according to the readers on Twitter... Follow
    • 53' Sunderland certainly have come out with more intent in the second half - it's wide open at present.
    • 52' OFFSIDE BUT GREAT MOVE FROM SUNDERLAND! Sessegnon skims past Kolarov and flights a low cross to Fletcher - Hart makes the save from a powerful header - but it was offside in any case.
    • 51' What a string of chances early in the second half. None taken. Sunderland trying to steady things a little, but Rose plays an errant pass on halfway to give possession back to City.
    • 50' RICHARDS! SHOULD BE TWO! The cross came in from the right, Richards header was blocked but the second chance was even better with Richards stroking the ball goalwards from a handful of yards out, and Rose blocking on the line!
    • 50' TOURE CLOSE! The stand-in skipper unchallenged, and drives a shot at a nice height for Mignolet to tip over.
    • 49' CLOSE! Fletcher makes a good connection with a volley from 10 yards out - that looked to be on target, but blocked before Hart needed to make a save.
    • 48' A huge task facing Sunderland, then - they have 45 minutes to avoid defeat against a side who are 29-3-0 in their last 32 home games in the Premier League.
    • 47' Sunderland have lost their last five Premier League away matches when behind at half time, since a 1-1 draw at Liverpool in August 2011. (Infostrada)
    • 46' Sunderland kick off the second half!
    • - 'I reckon Unless Man City can score in the next 20 Min of the second half.I reckon it will be a 1-1 Draw!' - that's WOODY96HD's prediction on Twitter... What's yours?
    • - What did you make of the first half? Can City keep a clean sheet? Are Sunderland going to get back into it? Have your say and join me on Twitter @Mark_Eurosport FOLLOW HERE
    • 45+2' HALF TIME: Kolarov's free kick separates the sides - but it might have been more. Sunderland down but not out of this one yet.
    • 45+1' Rose wins a throw in a useful postion on the left - knocks it straight back to Larsson, whose through ball very nearly turned into a snatched shot by Fletcher.
    • 45' Two minutes of stoppages to play. Mostly for tackles on Balotelli.
    • 44' McClean turns Kolarov and plays in Sessegnon, who's drifted down the right - but no end product. Hart has a free kick to get the ball forward.
    • 43' Fletcher tries a backheel turn past Richards, but the defender sees it coming. He's had a very solid first half, given it's his first start for City since April.
    • 42' Colback cuts out a City move and looks to get Sunderland breaking - the pass from McClean to Johnson, who have swapped wings, was a very poor one.
    • 41' A corner routine between Milner and Silva frees up the Spaniard, and he lays it off for Barry, who drives a low shot just wide of Mignolet's near post.
    • 40' Tevez forces another City corner after trying to squeeze in a short cross from inside the area on the right.
    • 39' O'Shea the latest man to bring down Balotelli clumsily - the Italian has a reputation for diving but he's been on the wrong end of some nasty challenges today.
    • 38' Silva now floating around on the outside the area, creating chance after chance.
    • 37' TEVEZ CLOSE! City dominating now, and Teve might easily have doubled the lead with a shot from close range. Sunderland hanging on.
    • 36' Silva's corner breaks for Balotelli on the edge of the box. He controls and tries to place a curled finish, but starts it out too wide for it to come back in the corner.
    • 35' Adam Johnson! Terrible, terrible pass, picking out Carlos Tevez and freeing the Argentine to drive forward from halfway. Doesn't get a shot away, but forces a corner. Could have been very embarrassing for Johnson.
    • 34' Silva penalised for a foul on Larsson. Rose prepares to take a free kick from deep on the left, but Sunderland end up working the ball sideways rather than forward.
    • 33' Larsson looks to swap a quick pass, and knocks it straight out of play. Ugly stuff from the visitors.
    • 32' Mignolet sends everone forward as he takes a free kick from just outside his own area. Sunderland need some direction at the moment, City look a cut above.
    • 31' Rose gets an ironic cheer for slipping as he closes down another probing City move down the right. He's going to have his work cut out for him today.
    • 30' BALOTELLI CLOSE! Quick football from Toure to Zabaleta with a centre to Balotelli, and Gardner, who's been spoiling so far this afternoon, does enough to prevent Balotelli stroking home from close.
    • 29' Barry feeds Silva, who looks to get City forward once more, but Rose cuts out a ball to Tevez.
    • 28' McClean muscled out by Richards on the flank - and no free kick for it. Hart to heave the ball foward.
    • 27' Not really happening for Sessegnon so far - a ranging crossfield 'Scholes-esque' ball out right loops straight out of play beyond Johnson, who's yet to do much to worry his former team-mates.
    • 26' Richards quick to deny Fletcher a moment to control in the box. It costs a throw in, which Rose rushes forward to take.
    • 25' Teasing cross from Silva, but Sunderland clear their lines. Just as it looks like there's half a chance of a break, Sessegnon runs the ball out of play on the left.
    • 24' Great hit from Kolarov - but this time it hits Larsson, who staggers back from the sheer force of the strike, but he's done his job and sent the ball looping over for a corner.
    • 23' Gardner catches Balotelli in the face! That's what you could fairly describe as a high boot. Extraordinary choice, and a free kick in Kolarov range.
    • 22' Man City have scored in all 11 games they have played this season, but haven't kept a clean sheet in the other 10. Wary (Opta)
    • 21' Best chance of the game so far. Some decent play in the build-up too, with Silva threading a delicate pass to Tevez to get move going.
    • 20' ZABALETA! SO CLOSE! THEN TEVEZ! The first shot was from nothing as it looked like Tevez had been muscled out of a shot, but it broke the full-back's way and Mignolet smothered from point-blank range. Tevez then gets around to deal with the rebound, but dragged wide. Should have been two.
    • 19' Another thing for Sunderland to take heart from - Joe Hart is yet to keep a clean sheet for City this season. That said, he was in superb form in the midweek Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund.
    • 18' Gardner brings down Balotelli off the ball. There's a bit of a commotion, but the game moves on again after the awarding of a free kick City's way.
    • 17' Balotelli from 25 yards - having shimmied into a little space, he drills the ball at least 10 yards too high. Pretty dreadful effort.
    • 16' Tevez tries a cheeky stepover on halfway and cedes possession to the visitors. Fortunately Gareth Barry is on hand for the home side to tidy things up.
    • 15' A minute of possession for City - they lead the possession stats 52% to 48% at present, but have not had things all their own way since the goal.
    • 14' It is over three years since City lost a Premier League home match after leading – 3-1 to Fulham in April 2009. (Infostrada)
    • 13' Another set piece for Sunderland - this time a corner - City scramble clear Larsson's delivery. Good response from the visitors.
    • 12' Poor from Kolarov as he gifts the ball back to Larsson close to the byline. Gardner then pings a low cross from deep towards goal, Fletcher goes for the header but City give away a corner.
    • 11' Sunderland took four points out of a possible six against the champions last season, so they shouldn't be put off by the early goal. But they have made life harder for themselves.
    • 10' SESSEGNON CLOSE! A free kick on the right is struck by Johnson, bounces around on the outside of the area, and culminates with the Frenchman volleying over. Half a chance.
    • 9' Sunderland venture forward for the first time in the match, but after Rose plays through Sessegnon, the Frenchman is easily robbed of the ball.
    • 8' Alexsandar Kolarov scored his fourth Premier League goal for Manchester City, and his second free kick. His last PL goal was also against Sunderland – in their 3-3 home draw on March 31. (Infostrada)
    • 7' As it stands, victory would lift City to second in the table, behind only Chelsea. But the league leaders are amongst the sides in action later today. Premier League programme
    • 6' That should settle any nerves for City. Unusual to see a poor tackle punished quite so directly, but Kolarov's goal worth catching - will surely be in the contenders for goal of the week.
    • 5' GOAL! KOLAROV MAKES IT 1-0! On the left it wasn't a natural angle for the left-footer, but no matter - he thuds it into the near post and left Mignolet little chance. Terrific hit!
    • 4' Tevez limping off to the sidelines after that and it's hard to blame him. Kolarov, Milner and Balotelli all standing over the free kick on the corner of the area.
    • 3' Cuellar! Extraordinary tackle on Tevez, who had just broken free down the left. Slid right through him. He picks up a yellow, but it could easily have been a red.
    • 2' Whoops - Lescott caught out and very nearly passes the ball straight into Fletcher on the edge of the area. The Scot unable to control, but it was clumsy play from the defender.
    • 1' City kick off! Away we go at the Etihad.
    • 12:44 WILL HE HAUNT CITY? Adam Johnson faces his former side today. He made 73 Premier League appearances for the club (11 goals) in three years at the Etihad Stadium. He started only 10 of 26 matches for them last season, completing 90 minutes on four occasions. (Infostrada)
    • 12:43 Today's referee is Lee Probert.
    • 12:42 Mancini confirms the Kompany injury to television in an interview, but doesn't specify the exact nature of it.
    • 12:41 Handshakes taking place on the field now. Who would have thought those could take place without incident?
    • 12:40 How do you see this one turning out? Can Sunderland continue their unbeaten start to the season? Get involved today by tweeting your thoughts and predictions to me @Mark_Eurosport Follow here
    • 12:35 THE IMPACT OF KOMPANY: The club have lost seven of 24 Premier League matches without him featuring since he arrived at the club (29%), conceding a total of 34 goals. With him in the team they have lost 31 of 133 Premier League matches in total (23%). (Infostrada)
    • 12:30 Manchester City have lost none of their last 32 Premier League home games (W29 D3 L0), but Sunderland (3-3 in March 2012) was one of the three draws. (Opta)
    • 12:25 Martn O'Neill (Sunderland) on the prospect of signing James McFadden: "I'm going to speak to his agent, who is in America at the moment, and hope that we can come up with something, but it's encouraging. The issue for us whether we'll keep McClean and Johnson fit all season because, apart from them, we have no real width in the squad. James has experience in the Premier League and did well for a period - he certainly did well against us last season."
    • 12:20 Roberto Mancini (Manchester City) on the returning Adam Johnson: "I think Adam played well here. The problem was maybe that he didn't play always. For young players like him it is important to play every game. I am sure he will do well for Sunderland and go to another top team because he deserves this. He is a good guy and a good player. He wanted to play every game and here it was difficult, he decided to leave." Johnson warns youngsters on dangers of joining City
    • 12:15 Much has been made of Manchester City's patchy start to the season - but despite the worries, the champions are unbeaten in their first six Premier League games, sitting fourth in the table. They face one of the other two unbeaten sides in the league today, with Sunderland yet to lose in five. Full Premier League table
    • 12:10 The headline news is this: Kompany out for Manchester City - appears to be an injury because the skipper is not even on the bench. In his place, Micah Richards will start in central defence for yet another back four combination for City this season, and that's one of seven City changes. Sunderland, by contrast, make just one change from the side that beat Wigan last weekend, with Carlos Cuellar returning to the team in place of Titus Bramble.
    • 12:05 MANCHESTER CITY: Hart, Zabaleta, Richards, Lescott, Kolarov, Milner, Barry, Yaya Toure, Silva, Balotelli, Tevez - Subs - Pantilimon, Clichy, Kolo Toure, Rodwell, Nasri, Aguero, Dzeko /// SUNDERLAND: Mignolet, Gardner, Cuellar, O'Shea, Rose, Johsnon, Colback, Larsson, McClean, Sessegnon, Fletcher - Subs - Westwood, Kilgallon, Meyler, Bramble, Vaughan, Saha, Campbell

  1. Kompany is over-rated. City's defense was all over the place in previous matches. No wonder they kept their first clean sheet in the league without him. (THE IMPACT OF KOMPANY: The club have lost seven of 24 Premier League matches without him featuring since he arrived at the club (29%), conceding a total of 34 goals.
