    • - Don't forget you can watch highlights of this match, along with every Premier League game, from 00:01 on Monday morning (UK only).
    • 90+5' Referee Mike Dean immediately blows the final whistle, and despite the close scoreline that was a very convincing win. United go top - temporarily at least.
    • 90+5' GOAL! Santi Cazorla gets one back with the last kick of the game! He absolutely smashes the ball in right-footed from the edge of the box!
    • 90+4' Arsenal look to end on a high, but Sagna gives the ball away and that will surely be it.
    • 90+3' Chance for Arsenal as Giroud meets a low ball in from the left, but De Gea is alert and comes out to block it!
    • 90+2' Four minutes of stoppage time being played. A refrain of "We love you Arsenal we do" reverberates around the ground.
    • 90+1' Arteta decks Van Persie and it's yet another booking. The Spaniard led with his arm in that aerial challenge.
    • 90' Jens Lehmann has just tweeted amusingly about the referee: "What a terrible Dean. Judges differently! Shame!" Erm... probably not the main problem, Jens.
    • 89' Van Persie's corner is met by a glancing header across the face of goal, but Arsenal hack it clear.
    • 88' Corner for United as they look to round things off with another goal to gloss the scoreline.
    • 86' Ball slid through for Van Persie, but Mannone is alert and races out to gather.
    • 85' There's mutiny among the Arsenal fans, who chant: "Ivan Gazidis - what the do you do?" and "We want our Arsenal back."
    • 84' Crossed from the right towards Van Persie, and Mertesacker heads it behind for a corner.
    • 83' Arshavin goes straight into the book for an inept piece of tackling. At least he's trying, eh?
    • 82' Two changes: Andrei Arshavin is on for Lukas Podolski, and Nani replaces the excellent Valencia.
    • 81' Yellow card to Wayne Rooney - United's fifth of the day.
    • 80' Anderson thinks he has made it three as he tucks Van Persie's ball into the right corner, but there is a flag up for offside. It's the right decision.
    • 79' Evra and Young combine down the left... the latter's cross is cut out.
    • 77' Celebrity blowhard Piers Morgan tweets: "Gazidis & Wenger have to go. We're getting worse the longer this dismal season goes on." Anyone who thinks sacking Arsene Wenger is the answer is an idiot.
    • 76' Van Persie ALWAYS does that. The whistle goes for offside, but he puts the ball in the net anyway. He has already been booked, and a more pedantic ref might have sent him off.
    • 75' Here's a chance for Arsenal as three men sprint through the middle... slipped into the path of Walcott on the right, but he blazes it into the crowd!
    • 74' United are passing Arsenal to death here. Having posed so limited a goal threat with 11 men, it's hard to imagine the visitors doing anything with 10.
    • 72' On Twitter, @stanistuta says: 'Cleverley got benefit of the doubt and Fergie quickly took him off. Wilshere got second yellow. Both deserved to go, only 1 did' - a fair point, but Wilshere had already had a let off before he was sent off (for his third bad foul). Wenger should have made like Fergie and taken him off. Get in touch on Twitter
    • 71' Arsene Wenger cuts a stern figure on the touchline. His team really haven't turned up today. This used to be the biggest game of the season, but Arsenal have just not performed.
    • 70' Well, in all likelihood that is game over. United two goals and a man up. Evra gets some treatment on his foot - he looks like he should be able to carry on.
    • 69' Jack Wilshere is off! He can have no real complaints as he steams into another rash challenge, this time on Evra. That's a second yellow card.
    • 68' Anderson is unmarked at the edge of the box, opens his body and... fires high over the bar!
    • 68' Big sighs of relief all round Old Trafford. United have missed a hatful of chances to pad their lead, but eventually have some breathing space.
    • 67' GOAL! United finally score from the corner. It is played short, and Rooney crosses from the left, picking out Patrice Evra whose downward header bounces into the left corner of Mannone's net.
    • 66' What a chance for Van Persie! He Beats the offside trap to meet Young's lofted pass, but he does not get much power on the shot and Mannone makes a fantastic diving save!
    • 65' Infostrada report: Arsenal have conceded only one second half PL goal this season – less than any other club in the division.
    • 64' Anderson plays a superb raking ball for Young. Two problems: 1-He doesn't reach it; 2-He's offside. But still, it looked nice.
    • 63' United pass the ball around - are they going to try and sit on their lead? Dangerous move, I reckon.
    • 61' Man Utd change: Cleverley is replaced by Anderson, who was excellent against Chelsea on Wednesday.
    • 61' Another yellow card, this time to Robin van Persie for a wild sliding tackle on Sagna.
    • 60' Carrick slides a great ball through to Valencia down the right... he play it inside, presumably not realising he has no support.
    • 59' Cleverley gets a ticking off after a Wilshere/Scholes-esque tackle... Arsenal free-kick 40 yards or so from goal, pretty central.
    • 58' Rooney scuffs a ball goalwards, it rears up off Mertesacker's thigh and hits him on the arm. Another penalty shout for handball, but this time it is rightly denied.
    • 57' If Santos were a good attacker you could forgive his defensive frailty - but an appalling cross into the crowd suggests he is not.
    • 56' Valencia crosses from the right and tries a clever ball to the feet of Van Persie that doesn't quite come off.
    • 55' Van Persie hacked by Wilshere. He really is the new Scholes, isn't he? Could have gone for a second yellow there...
    • 54' Giroud! Does well to receive the ball eight yards out, turn and get his shot away - but it clangs off the outside of the post and wide!
    • 54' Arsenal have ridden the storm, and improbably, they are still very much in this.
    • 53' And here's the logical change - Theo Walcott comes on for Aaron Ramsey.
    • 52' Arsenal starting to get a bit more joy as they break down the left - Cazorla crosses and Evans heads clear.
    • 51' Yeah, sorry about that. Several Arsenal subs are warming up - you'd imagine Walcott is the most likely man to come on.
    • 50' NEWSFLASH: Oh-em-actual-gee, Lucy Spraggan has quit X-Factor. A tragic loss
    • 49' Decent break down the Arsenal left... played low to the edge of the six-yard box by Santos, but once again the Arsenal forwards are hanging back around the penalty spot.
    • 48' Young crosses low from the left... it goes all the way through to Rafael who scuffs it, and then the ball falls for Carrick who shoots off target from long range.
    • 47' United win a corner as Sagna puts the ball behind from Rooney. Arsenal clinging on, but the longer they stay in touch the more confident they will become.
    • 46' WHAT A CHANCE!! Vermaelen slips again and Vam Persie crosses for the unmarked Valencia who misses a virtual open goal! He barely made any contact with it!
    • 46' We're back! United kick the second half off, playing from right to left. Perhaps surprisingly, there have been no changes of personnel.
    • 45+3' That's half-time, and both teams go in wondering how Manchester United are still only one up. Santos gets Van Persie as he leaves the pitch! That's awful... Back in a few minutes.
    • 45+3' Into the last of three minutes of stoppage time... the away fans chant 'Theo, Theo, Theo!'
    • 45+2' Rooney is not the best penalty taketr, but it is unusual to see him miss the target altogether. That was a stinker. Let RVP have the next one.
    • 45+1' ROONEY MISSES FROM THE SPOT!! He drags his shot wide of the left-hand post, and that's an awful penalty. Justice probably done, as that was a really harsh award.
    • 45+1' Think Stuart Pearce v Switzerland at Euro '96.
    • 45' PENALTY UNITED! It's handball against Cazorla as he blocked Young's cross. It did hit his hands, but he was protecting his face and that looks very harsh.
    • 43' Young runs at Sagna and manoeuvres into space, but his attempted threaded pass to Van Persie is too difficult and Arsenal cut it out. Could have just whipped it into the danger area there.
    • 42' Arteta shows Santos how it is done with a smart tackle on Rafael in the Arsenal left-back position.
    • 41' Arsenal simply haven't been able to give their forward players any proper support today. I think we'll see a change at the break.
    • 40' Van Persie kicks his heels in frustration as an attempted through ball passes him by. His movement has been superb again today.
    • 39' An unmarked Giroud meets the corner with a wild header over the bar, but the whistle goes for a foul in the box anyway.
    • 38' The free-kick is met by a firm defensive header but Arsenal still have it, and Giroud wins a corner wide on the left.
    • 37' Cleverley trips Cazorla as the Spaniard nips the ball past him. Clumsy challenge, yellow card and a chance for Arteta to deliver this into the box.
    • 36' Tom Adams tweets: "We all dream of a team of Mertesackers." If by 'we all' he means 'Tony Pulis' he might be onto something.
    • 35' Wilshere is down and has his right boot off after a challenge by Carrick. We're always going to be nervous when this happens, but it seems he's OK. And Carrick escapes without a booking.
    • 34' Cleverley bursts into space down the United right and tries to cross towards one of two red shirts at the edge of the box, but it is cut out by the first man. Disappointing delivery from the England midfielder.
    • 33' United work the ball smartly from right to left before Evra releases Young... but the winger has strayed offside.
    • 32' Defending by Santos! He nicks the ball from Rafael and passes it clear before reacting like it ain't a thang. Oh, it's a thang alright.
    • 31' Here's Santos in attack now... he crosses from the left and De Gea catches. Incidentally, how is Santos scoring virtually the same as Sagna on out matchcast ratings?!
    • 30' Yellow card to Ashley Young for holding back Bacary Sagna.
    • 29' Twitter wag time - @MatchOfTheDave says: "André Santos being murdered. Apart from everyone, who would've predicted that?" Well, quite.
    • 28' Valencia mugs Santos yet again and clips the ball in... the ball falls to Rooney on the left side whose powerful left-foot shot is parried by Mannone and the rebound falls to safety for Arsenal.
    • 27' Rooney crosses deep from the right and Sagna is there to head the ball away. That fatal Vermaelen slip aside, Arsenal have defended well.
    • 26' Valencia nutmegs Santos, who blocks off the winger and concedes a free-kick. He's having a tough time, is Santos.
    • 25' A stoppage here while Ashley Young receives treatment. I must confess I didn't see it, but he would appear to have got a bash in the face. He'll be fine, though.
    • 24' De Gea called into action as Ramsey fires a low cross in from the right. The goalkeeper parries it clear - might have been harder if an Arsenal player had made a run into the six-yard box.
    • 23' The corner comes to nothing, and that allows Arsenal a little breather as we reach the halfway point of the first half.
    • 22' Arsenal on the ropes here as Sagna blocks an Evra cross and the ball goes behind for a corner. Valencia is destroying Santos on the other flank.
    • 21' Van Persie brings a save from Mannone after a brilliant through ball from Rooney! Another right-foot shot, not an easy chance.
    • 20' Conspiracy! Referee Mike Dean gets in the way of the ball to break up an Arsenal attack.
    • 18' That was decent interplay between the United strikers. Van Persie really has made an amazing start to his United career - 10 goals in 12-and-a-bit matches.
    • 17' RVP and Rooney exchange passes but the Dutchman is forced wide and cannot get his shot away.
    • 16' Arsenal are enjoying plenty of posession. Well, I don't know if they're enjoying it. They're having it, certainly.
    • 15' It's the most wonderful time of the year - the United fans are singing that '12 Days of Christmas'/Cantona song. Must put the decorations up...
    • 14' Based on that tackle, it appears that Jack Wilshere has been out since the 1970s. Proper reducer on Cleverley and that's a booking.
    • 13' It's gone a bit Spanish, this game. Decent passing from both sides, but not much happening within 30 yards of either goal. FYI: The Arsenal fans aren't being respectful to RVP.
    • 11' Infostrada have hit us with this statistical nugget: "This is the third time in five PL matches at Old Trafford this season that there has been a goal within the opening three minutes."
    • 10' Good cross from Sagna towards Ramsey, who is beaten in the air. It comes out to Santos 25 yards out, and he drags his shot in the rough direction of the corner flag.
    • 9' I'm prattling because there's not a lot of action down on the pitch. The ball spending a lot of time in the middle third.
    • 8' Meanwhile, Eurosport-Yahoo!'s Sean Fay says he has had enough of muted celebrations. He wants more of this.
    • 7' Our man Tom Adams again: "Absolutely every single aspect of that goal was entirely unsurprising." Tom Adams on Twitter
    • 6' Ashley Young flings himself to the ground - it was a foul by Arteta, but Young certainly made the most of it. Need to be careful doing that these days...
    • 5' Awful attempted clearance from Vermaelen for that goal. He has struggled this season, and a number of Gooners would rather see Laurent Koscielny in the centre of defence. That number has probably just increased...
    • 4' Well, that didn't take long, did it? Celebration fans might be interested to hear that he was restrained, but didn't do that irritating thing of refusing to smile altogether.
    • 3' GOAL!! It's Robin van Persie!! Ridiculous! Rafael crosses weakly from the right, Vermaelen makes a right hash of the clearance and Van Persie tucks the ball away with his right foot from the edge of the box.
    • 2' United knock the ball around in their own half. Not much urgency until Wilshere flings himself as Valencia who manages to get the ball away.
    • 1' Arsenal kick off, playing from right to left as we see it. The far side of the pitch is in sunshine, the near side in shade. As if you care.
    • 12:42 Out come the teams! It's a sunny lunchtime at Old Trafford. Arsenal are in their natty purple and black hooped away strip. Which actually sounds odder than it is. Obviously, Van Persie gets a full complement of handshakes from the Arsenal team - including a couple of hugs.
    • 12:40 FYI: I'll be pronouncing Giroud 'Zhi-roo' and Cazorla 'Ca-thor-la' in this text commentary.
    • 12:40 Game time approaches - time for another quick hello. I'm Alex Chick, and will be describing today's action. You can follow me on Twitter if you want to puff up my ego - @alexchick81 Get in touch on Twitter
    • 12:40 MORE STATS! There have been nine penalties in the Premier League meetings between Arsenal and Manchester United in the Wenger era (seven for United, two for Arsenal); all at Old Trafford and five have been missed. Eight of those penalties have come in the last nine meetings between United and Arsenal at Old Trafford. The Gunners have scored just 10 goals in 20 Premier League visits to Old Trafford, with last season (2-8 defeat) being the only time they have netted two in one game.
    • 12:40 STAT 1: Manchester United have won seven and lost none of the last eight matches against Arsenal at Old Trafford in all competitions. Last season, Manchester United inflicted Arsenal’s biggest ever defeat in the Premier League when they won 8-2 at Old Trafford.
    • 12:35 Fergie giving little away in his pre-match interview on Sky. Said he hasn't spoken to Van Persie about playing against his old club. And frankly, why would he need to?
    • 12:30 A quick look at the Premier League table - United are second, a point behind leaders Chelsea. Arsenal lie six points further adrift in sixth position. Despite conceding five at Reading in midweek, the Gunners boast the best defensive record in the division. Premier League table
    • 12:25 Arsene Wenger has also called on Arsenal fans not to abuse Van Persie: "We cannot promote respect and then say 'look it is respectful on Saturday'. I hope it (reception) is a respectful one because he has played for us for eight years, and he has done very well for us. We campaign against discrimination, it was still the case last week so why should it not be the case this week?" Again, some hope. Full story
    • 12:20 Alex Ferguson has called on Arsenal fans to show Robin van Persie respect.: "I think, if you think about all the former players who have come back to Old Trafford, they always get a warm applause. I don't think he'll have a problem. I think the fans will recognise the eight years he gave them and I think that will be nice." Some hope. Full story
    • 12:15 Time for a bit more news from today's teams. United had an injury setback yesterday when it was announced that Nemanja Vidic will be out until Christmas with his knee injury. Full story
    • 12:10 Still trawling the internet, the following sign has been spotted outside a pub near Highbury & Islington station (The Famous Cock, I'm guessing). 'RIP RVP'
    • 12:10 Eurosport-Yahoo!'s Tom Adams, an Arsenal fan, has just tweeted the following: "Prediction: 90 minutes of agony." Which immediately brings this to mind.
    • 12:05 More interesting comments from Alex Ferguson in his programme notes, which feature strong support for Mark Clattenburg after last Sunday's events at Chelsea: : "I felt every sympathy for Mark Clattenburg at Chelsea. He was pilloried and didn't deserve it." That relates to his controversial decisions rather than the Mikel incident. Fergie: Clattenburg abuse 'unthinkable'
    • 12:00 Looking at those teams, you'd have to think the biggest tactical mismatch is down the United right, where Antonio Valencia gets to run at the defensively suspect Andre Santos. The selection of Aaron Ramsey ahead of Welcott does give Arsenal a little extra stability, however.
    • 11:55 So there's confirmation that Robin van Persie comes up against his former side. No real surprises in either team selection. United stick with the wide men that damaged Chelsea last week, while there is no place in the Arsenal team for Theo Walcott despite his hat-trick against Reading in midweek.
    • 11:52 TEAMS: MANCHESTER UNITED: De Gea, Rafael, Evra, Ferdinand, Evans, Valencia, Carrick, Young, Cleverley, Rooney, van Persie. SUBS: Lindegaard, Anderson, Hernandez, Nani, Scholes, Powell, Wootton. /// ARSENAL: Mannone, Sagna, Santos, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Arteta, Wilshere, Ramsey, Cazorla, Podolski, Giroud. SUBS: Martinez, Koscielny, Walcott, Coquelin, Arshavin, Jenkinson, Chamakh.
    • 11:50 In the meantime, hello, my name's Alex Chick. I'll be live texting this game, Tottenham-Wigan and West Ham-Man City. A shortcut to RSI if ever one existed. You can get in touch with me on Twitter - @alexchick81 Follow me on Twitter (if you like)
    • 11:45 Welcome to LIVE coverage of the Premier League match between Manchester United and Arsenal at Old Trafford. We'll have teams imminently.

Maybe some of the team are not paid enough to 100% for 90 minutes work. Come on Utd it should have been 5-0 at least even with a card happy ref who did nothing to keep the game flowing. 15. Mr Dean is spending the weekend at Fergie's retreat .............he did so well that he is going to be rewarded by staying the night and having Sunday Roast with the Fergullson household, thats the treath that Webb, Clattenburg and Dean usually get? Fergie is doing it again , terrorising the PFA into doing what he wants , then the results go his way ..............well they usually do , there is some sort of deal to keep United , thanks mainly to Charlton B., his influence is getting through the F.A. ITS TRADITION YOU KNOW THAT BUSBY'S BABES ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF ENGLAND.

  19. I'm angry but not surprised after Wenger's selection. Walcott should have started, and I would normally be saying Santos cost us but he actually played alrigth, and I think Gnabry and Eisfeld could have been on the bench after Wednesday. The next three games against Schalke, Fulham and Spurs are the most important of the season so far, and if we win all of them, this game will not matter, and we'll probably be 4th and pretty much qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League, and we're pretty much in the semis of the League Cup with Bradford in the quarters, so they just need to be inspired by something! Maybe Wenger himself...Arsenal 'till I die!

  20. That's Utd. top of the table, and Arsenal out of the title race, if they were ever in it.
