    • 80' More stuff going on around those technical areas as Cabaye is spoken to by Howard Webb. Fourth officials trying to calm the respective benches.
    • 79' Pardew looking quite agitated on the side of the park. Prowling that touchline with some intent. Chelsea look to get on the move again.
    • 78' Newcastle have a free-kick here. Cabaye with the delivery, but Lampard does enough to make the clearance.
    • 77' Lampard hoists the free-kick into the box. Plenty of air under the ball. All too easy for Krul to show off his handling skills.
    • 76' Gutiérrez takes out Mata with a late challenge. Free-kick for Chelsea out wide.
    • 75' Krul off his line quickly to collect the cross from Mata. Cech out of his goal at the other end to grab a loose ball from the air.
    • 74' Benitez and Pardew looking far from content with each other as the play continues to rage out there. This match well and truly in the melting pot.

    • 71' Mata with a probing corner, but Ivanovic is challenged well in the home area. Newcastle battling to deny Chelsea space.
    • 70' Newcastle have scored two goals at home against Chelsea in the Premier League for the first time since April 2004 - 2-1. What price a third goal now? For either side.
    • 69' Phew! What a match this it turning out to be. A real thriller all of a sudden with both teams coming to the boil nicely.
    • 68' GOAL! Sissoko nets the equaliser for Newcastle! Cech couldn't hold Gouffran's shot and Sissoko follows up to net the rebound. 2-2 now.
    • 67' Juan Mata scored his 10th Premier League goal of the season. He has also provided nine assists. He has already scored four more goals than his six-goal total for the whole of last season.
    • 66' Mata on the attack again for Chelsea, but Santon is well positioned to thwart that latest visiting attack.
    • 65' Cahill rising to head out the cross from Sissoko. Newcastle not getting overly down about trailing as they try to find a way back here.
    • 64' Chance for Mata from Oscar's cross, but he lifts the volley over the bar from eight yards out. That would have been the pick of the lot.
    • 63' Two quite brilliant goals from Chelsea. The European champions look to be in the mood for more here.
    • 62' Cole has picked up a booking after becoming involved in a spot of off the ball nonsense with Cisse, who is also booked for his part.
    • 61' GOAL! Mata lifts the ball over Krul from Torres' lay-off and Chelsea suddenly have a 2-1 lead. Magical finish from a difficult angle.
    • 60' Another chance for Lampard to give Chelsea the lead, but this time Krul makes the stop.
    • 59' Frank Lampard has now become the first player in Premier League history to score at least 10 goals in 10 consecutive Premier League seasons. He has also now scored six goals at St James’ Park, equalling the most scored by an away player at the stadium, level with Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes.
    • 58' Lampard going to take this free-kick. Manages to find Ivanovic, but his header is wide of the goal.
    • 57' Cabaye brings down Lampard, who has earned Chelsea a free-kick deep in the Newcastle half.
    • 56' The visiting fans loving every minute of that high in the stands at St James' Park. Little wonder. A special goal by a player clearly in form.
    • 55' GOAL! Lampard with a stunning strike from 30 yards out. Collects the pass from Ivanovic after nice work by Cole and a brilliant finish. We are level here. No chance for Krul as the ball looped over him.
    • 54' Torres tries to pick the pocket of Steven Taylor., who empties the ball out of play.
    • 53' Chelsea refusing to panic here as they knock a number of short passes around before going long with it.
    • 52' Gutiérrez picks up a loose ball at the back post. Beats Lampard to get the cross in, but Cech does enough to clasp the cross.
    • 51' Torres forces Krul to knock the ball long. Sissoko with a cross. Halted by Cole and that will be a corner to the home side.
    • 50' Bertrand's cross is deflected behind for a Chelsea corner which Mata will take. Ivanovic can't get on the end of it as the home side hold firm.
    • 49' Mata doing some terrific work to track back and win the ball from Sissoko. Real work ethic by the little Spanish player.
    • 48' Debuchy under the high hopeful ball ffrom Lampard to hear clear. Chelsea looking to get on the front foot at the outset of this second period.
    • 47' Jonas Gutierrez has scored his first Premier League goal for a year since scoring in 2-2 home draw v Wolves, Feb 2012. It’s his second career Premier League goal v Chelsea after scoring in 2-2 away draw, May 2011.
    • 46' And off we go then in this second half. Newcastle get the action started holding this 1-0 lead.
    • 45+4' There goes the whistle for the break! Newcastle enjoy a 1-0 lead at the break. Mood of the match seemed to change when Ba's header flew inches wide. Newcastle won't be complaining. They are in the driving seat here.
    • 45+3' Perch is going to be booked. Not sure what that is about. Late challenge.
    • 45+2' Bertrand with a brave block to halt the effort by Sissoko. Cech then misses a corner coming for it, but Chelsea manage to hack the loose ball clear.
    • 45+1' We are into four minutes of time added on in the first period. Mainly due to the Ba blood injury.
    • 44' Torres looks like he is limping. That is all that Chelsea would need at this stage of the match to lose the Spanish forward.
    • 43' Chelsea being forced back here in the close minutes of the half. Newcastle should take immense heart from the quality of that opening goal.
    • 42' Ba has seen enough for the day. Looks in a bit of a daze and has been replaced by the freshly shorn Fernando Torres for the visiting side.
    • 41' Glorious sweeping move by Newcastle and probably merited on the balance of play. Think Gutiérrez got above John Terry to score.
    • 40' GOAL! Gutiérrez rises to nod Santon's cross into the corner of the net. Brilliant sweeping move. No chance for Cech in the Chelsea goal.
    • 39' Chelsea continue on here with only 10 men. Finally Ba returns to the action. Has a huge white strip across his nose to stem the bleeding. Looks like he has been in a streetfight.
    • 38' Ba looking none too content with his predicament, but at least he is back on his feet as Ramires rejoins the play.
    • 37' Ramires receiving some treatment. Chelsea could be down to nine men with Ba also off the park getting his nose attended to.
    • 36' Superb stop by Cech low to his left to halt the Cisse shot as Ba continues to ooze blood from his nose at the side of the park.
    • 35' We resume play then with Ivanovic nodding the ball back to Cech as Ba continues to receive treatment at the side of the park. Looks like a bloodied nose.
    • 34' Agony for Ba, who must have thought he had netted against his old club. Meanwhile, Ba needing a spot of treatment here after the challenge by Coloccini.
    • 33' Ba fires a shot at goal! Saved by Krul before the striker heads the rebound inches wide. So close to the opening goal. We remain at 0-0.
    • 32' Cabaye with a ball into the Chelsea box, but headed out by Cahill as the visitors look to break.
    • 31' A booking for Ramires for a late challenge on Gutiérrez. Was fortunate that was only yellow. Was late by a couple of yards and a couple of seconds.
    • 30' Cahill on the end of a Mata corner. But can't direct the header at goal. Fine piece of defending by Newcastle.
    • 29' Sissoko slips the ball to Gouffran as Newcastle look to come again here, but Chelsea break up the play well. Chelsea in possession deep in the home half.
    • 28' Error by Cahill in failing to clear. Ball breaks to Sissoko, who can only lift the ball over the bar. That was a decent chance spurned by the midfielder.
    • 27' Terry just fails to connect with Mata's corner. Lampard tries to unload a shot, but charged down by the home side, who have plenty of bodies in there.
    • 26' Perch blocks a Cole cross and that will be first corner of the day by my reckoning. After 26 minutes.
    • 25' Ba trying to make a nuisance of himself in the home box, but Coloccini lets the ball drop through safely to the arms of Krul.
    • 24' A better volley at the Chelsea goal. Santon controlled the shot, but a couple of yards wide of target. Not sure Cech would have reached that if it was on target.
    • 23' Debuchy throws over a hopeful cross which Terry deals with easily. Decent clearing header from the former England captain.
    • 22' Cabaye the latest man to have a go from distance, but his dipping attempt with a volley is well off the mark. Wide by some margin.
    • 21' Newcastle's best moment of the half so far falls to Cisse, but his curling effort lacks power from the edge of the visiting area. Easy enough take for the giant Cech.
    • 20' And on Chelsea go as Lampard dashes back to his own half to slip the ball to Terry. Cabaye then with a speculative effort, but straight down the throat of Cech.
    • 19' Mata feeds Oscar, who unloads a shot that flies over the bar from 25 yards. Plenty of power, but the ball was always rising.
    • 18' Terry seems to be enjoying his comeback. Has hardly been under immense pressure so far as Oscar and Lampard exchange passes.
    • 17' Frank Lampard is just six goals away from Bobby Tambling's Chelsea record of 202 goals. Will he get there before the end of the season? Chance to knock one of the total there.
    • 16' Thought that was a certain goal from a man of Lampard's class. Debuchy catches Ba with a late challenge.
    • 15' Glorious chance for Lampard, but he thumps the ball over from 12 yards. Lovely cutback by Cole after Mata sent the England full-back racing down a flank.
    • 14' Gouffran secures the ball from Ramires after he was caught in possession. Can't afford to dwell on it at this level.
    • 13' Crowd yet to come to life in this contest. Probably because little or nothing has happened.
    • 12' Ba on the ball for Chelsea, but Cabaye showing his upper body strength to win it. A smart piece of defending by Santon to hold the ball after a Bertrand cross came to nothing.
    • 11' Alan Pardew trying to inject a few relevant points into his side from the side of the pitch. Plenty of willing in this game without the desired quality in the final third so far.
    • 10' Cabaye with a late challenge on Ramires, but the free-kick comes to nothing. Krul hammers the ball long seconds later.
    • 9' Chelsea seem content to retreat and let Newcastle have it. The home side not adverse to having it, but yet to do anything of real note when springing men forward. A very tactical affair so far.
    • 8' Newcastle continue to look busy, but the final ball by Gutiérrez is lacking as he ends up knocking it straight into the paws of Cech. A familiar theme to these opening moments.
    • 7' Cahill knocks the ball back to Cech, who ends up whacking it long. Santon takes up a nice position 25 yards from goal. Gets the shot in, but no power. Another easy save for Cech.
    • 6' Cisse can't get a shot away at the edge of the Chelsea box. Terry shields the ball back to Cech, who has seen enough of the ball here without making any great saves.
    • 5' Gutiérrez in with a timely challenge to halt Lampard after he collected the ball at the halfway line. Chelsea yet to trouble the home goal.
    • 4' Terry wallops a ball out of his box from the cross by Gutiérrez. Some nice possession stuff early on by Alan Pardew's men. Cech off his line to collect seconds later.
    • 3' Shot on the turn by Gouffran for the home side, but an easy enough stop by Cech in the visiting goal. Newcastle open on the attack here.
    • 2' In 1997 on this day, Newcastle won 4-3 at home against Leicester City after they were 3-1 down. Alan Shearer scored a hat trick. They will hope for a similar outcome today.
    • 1' Chelsea get the action off and running here.
    • 14.57 Teams in the tunnel. Almost ready to go. Newcastle in traditional black and white, Chelsea in traditional blue.
    • 14.55 The referee today is Howard Webb of Yorkshire. Newcastle only four points above the relegation spots in 15th place in the standings. Chelsea trying to close the gap on second-placed Manchester City, who are six points clear before today's match. City in action at home against Liverpool tomorrow.
    • 14.50 Demba Ba starts today and returns to St James’ Park for the first time since joining Chelsea. He scored 29 goals in 54 Premier League outings for the club. He remains Newcastle’s top scorer this season with 13 Premier League goals, 43% of their overall 30-goal total. Ba has scored five goals in his last six Premier League appearances at St James’ Park. In comparison, substitute Fernando Torres has never scored there in three Premier League appearances.
    • 14.45 Rafael Benitez has won eight of his 10 career Premier League matches against Newcastle. He has won three of five Premier League visits to St James' Park – the last was Liverpool’s 5-1 victory there in December 2008.
    • 14.40 "Last season they (Newcastle United) had a great campaign, and I was slightly surprised that they haven't been playing at the same level," said Chelsea coach Rafael Benitez. "But you can see they still have good players, and I think they will do well, but hopefully after this game. They did well last Tuesday against Aston Villa, so they will be happy with the performance and the result. After this game, if they can win a few games in a row I'm sure they will be fine."
    • 14.35 "Just recently, a little bit of pressure has fallen their way because of a few draws, when they have actually looked like they were going to win games," said Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew. "Sometimes you play really well but can't get over the line and get a win, and I think that's where they are at. They will be searching for that against us, and I am hoping that we can stay in the game and they get edgy towards the end and we see a victory out."
    • 14.30 Newcastle Unirted are unchanged from their 2-1 win at Aston Villa on Tuesday evening with the home side expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. New signings Yoan Gouffran and Moussa Sissoko make their home debuts for Newcastle. Papiss Cisse is set to be deployed up front on his own supported by Gouffran, Sissoko and Jonas Gutierrez.
    • 14.25 Petr Cech and John Terry both return to the starting line-up for Chelsea while Demba Ba could get a hot reception against his former club. Cesar Azpilicueta drops out for Terry.
