    • 83' Fox with a long, hopeful free-kick. Loops up off the head of Hooiveld and safely into the arms of Elliot.
    • 82' Debuchy caught offside after setting off too soon. Bit of a late flag by the linesman.

    • 73' Sissoko on the run before Yoshida is penalised for a late challenge. Yoshida booked for his failure to make the tackle.
    • 72' Yohan Cabaye scored on his 50th Premier League appearance with a penalty. It was the first penalty he has taken in the Premier League. He had missed his last three for Lille in Ligue 1.
    • 71' Gutiérrez heads out the ball from Lallana before Ramirez is penalised for a handball as he thrashed the ball straight at Elliot.

    • 68' Southampton were on top when that penalty was awarded. The harsh realitites of life in the Premier League perhaps. The home fans now back in full voice.
    • 67' GOAL! Cabaye sends the penalty to the right of Boruc as the Poland goalkeeper dived left. Newcastle back in front at 3-2. Very harsh on Fox and Southampton.
    • 66' PENALTY TO NEWCASTLE! Debuchy hits the hand of Fox with a cross and that is a spot-kick to the home side.
    • 65' Lallana with another superb tackle to win the ball from Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.
    • 64' Looks like Southampton are going to shuffle their pack here with Gaston Ramirez set to replace the former Rangers midfielder Steven Davis. There comes the change.

    • 62' Brilliant defending by Lallana to win the ball from Tiote as he prepared to pull the trigger and Southampton break to the other end.
    • 61' Debuchy with a cross that is headed out by Hooiveld. Newcastle earn a corner.
    • 60' Jack Cork winning the ball well after Lallana had lost it. Strong challenge by him. This game could go either way here.
    • 59' Taylor wins the header from Cabaye's corner-kick, but Southampton have enough bodies back to deal with the danger.

    • 56' Shaw departs for Saints to be replaced by the Scotland full-back Danny Fox.
    • 55' Gouffran is caught offside. Newcastle have hardly threatened in this second period. Has been all about Southampton's response to trailing at the break.
    • 54' Lallana drags a shot a couple of yards wide. The Southampton skipper is in superb form here as that flies wide from 25 yards or so.

    • 49' GOAL! Lambert levels for Southampton! His 100th goal in English football. Brilliant finish from 12 yards out. Lovely pass from Lallana.
    • 48' Newcastle break to the other end, but Tiote's cross looking for Cisse is poor as it sails straight into the arms of Boruc.
    • 47' Superb diving save by Elliot to dive to his left and nudge away the swerving free-kick over the wall from Lambert. Brilliant effort.
    • 46' Southampton get the second half off and running then.

    • 45+1' Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa takes over from Coloccini for Newcastle United. First enforced change of the day for the home side.
    • 44' We are into three minutes of time added on in the first half. Looks like Coloccini has injured himself here.
    • 43' Lallana caught offside from Lambert's pass. Southampton have lost their way in this match.

    • 39' Shaw into the book for a late challenge this time on Gutiérrez - a second yellow card for Southampton in his first half.
    • 38' Moussa Sissoko now has three goals (plus two assists) from his first four Premier League matches for Newcastle.
    • 37' Lambert caught offside after setting off too soon. He has faded from the game since the early moments, a symptom of Southampton's lack of chances.
    • 36' Newcastle recovering well after Southampton had a positive opening 25 minutes. Newcastle on the up with Sissoko beating Clyne before thumping a shot/cross over the bar.
    • 35' Boruc almost caught out as he delayed his clearance. Eventually gets the ball down the park. This match warming up nicely on a freezing cold day.
    • 34' Tiote being helped off the park here. But is quickly back into the action seconds later. For how long, nobody knows.
    • 33' Tiote down on the deck needing some treatment after a late challenge on Cork in the middle of the park. Doesn't look too good for him.
    • 32' GOAL! Sissoko tucks the ball into the net after Gouffran's shot was blocked by Boruc. Bit of good luck to break to the midfielder, but Newcastle get the reward for some incessant attacking play.
    • 31' Tiote goes in late on Rodriguez. Poor challenge. Late and a high boot, but the referee has allowed play to continue.
    • 30' Debuchy keeping the ball alive out wide, but the cross lacks any bite and Yoshida can play the ball out from the back. A very mature performance so far from Southampton.
    • 29' Newcastle on the move again here, but Shaw playing superbly well to hold up the run of Debuchy. That is becoming quite a battle between those two.
    • 28' Debuchy decides to let fly seconds later from distance. Hit that from 35 yards, but ball always spinning wide of the target.
    • 27' Lallana penalised for a handball from Santon's attempted pass. And that will be a free-kick to Newcastle just inside the Southampton half.
    • 26' Newcastle have come back to defeat Southampton from 1-0 down twice before in the Premier League, coming back to win 2-1 at St. James’ Park in both November 1997, and November 2002.
    • 25' Shaw brings down Debuchy out wide, but the Southampton defence again stands up well to the free-kick under severe scrutiny.
    • 24' Jonás Gutiérrez sent tumbling to the deck by Rodriguez, who picks up a booking for that challenge. Poor late tackle by him.
    • 23' Lambert having a glorious day out so far. Winning so many headers up front as Santon ends up misplacing a pass that flies straight out of play. Goalkick to the visiting team.
    • 22' Lallana caught offside at the other end. And on we go with Southampton holding this 1-0 lead midway through the first period.
    • 21' Taylor controls the next corner on his chest. Appeals for a penalty against Hoiveld as he hooked the ball goalwards. Whacked against the hand. Strong appeals for a penalty, but nothing doing. Correct decision by the referee.
    • 20' A corner to Newcastle that is whipped in by Cabaye, but Yoshida does enough to put Taylor off. And that will be another corner to the home side.
    • 19' Another superb run and cross by Shaw deep to the back post. Tiote keeps his cool to play his way out of danger, but Taylor and Coloccini being fully tested by these cross balls.
    • 18' Cisse turns in the box, but can only knock the ball wide from Gouffran's pass. Superb play by Sissoko. Bad miss in the end by Cisse with Boruc's goal exposed.
    • 17' Southampton pressing the game so far up the park as Debuchy is forced to knock the ball back to Coloccini whether he liked to or not.
    • 16' Schneiderlin’s third-minute goal for Southampton was the fastest goal scored by an away side at St. James’ Park this season, and the second fastest scored at the stadium this season overall. Papiss Cisse’s second-minute goal in the 2-1 loss to Everton remains the fastest.
    • 15' Southampton again challenge with some relish at the corner to clear the danger. Pardew wondering how his side can unlock this Southampton defence, which shows no signs of collapsing easily.
    • 14' Sissoko thumps a shot at goal from 25 yards. Was swerving wide, but Boruc takes no chances as he dives to tip it wide of his goal.
    • 13' Elliot making his Premier League debut today for the home side. Has done little but pick the ball out of the net.
    • 12' Great rampaging run by Shaw. Cross is decent, but Tiote is quick to win the second ball on the edge of the box. Lambert causing so many problems for that home rearguard.
    • 11' Hooiveld doing well to block the cross by Cisse before Boruc collects seconds later. More frustration for the home side.
    • 10' Santon trying to wriggle away from a couple of Southampton players before Tiote joins the attack. Southampton working ever so hard here.
    • 9' Morgan Schneiderlin opens the scoring with his fourth Premier League goal of the season. Southampton are yet to win in the previous three matches he has netted in -2 draws, 1 loss.
    • 8' Sissoko making a hopeful run forward, but just muscled out of matters by a series of red shirts. Santon doing well at the other end to halt a cross as Saints continue moving forward.
    • 7' Yohan Cabaye making his 50th Premier League appearance. He has scored eight goals and made nine assists. But yet to be seen as an attacking force for the home side.
    • 6' Ball breaks to Coloccini from the corner. He has a go at goal from 30 yards, but the volley flies well wide of the target. Newcastle at least back in this game.
    • 5' Debuchy races down his flank. His cross is blocked by a red shirt and Newcastle will have a corner here.
    • 4' Brilliant stuff by Lambert to play provider. Little wonder Schneiderlin goes to the bench to congratulate his manager after that strike. Mauricio Pochettino looking reasonably calm.
    • 3' GOAL! Schneiderlin turns in the heart of the Newcastle box to hammer Lambert's header down into the net. Lovely ball in by Cork to Lambert and the home side are caught cold.
    • 2' Southampton looking to build on the 3-1 win over Manchester City. Lambert in the mix early on the edge of the home area from Shaw's free-kick, but Newcastle clear the danger.
    • 1' And off we go in Newcastle with the home side getting the action started here.
    • 13:25 Newcastle have taken to playing the French national anthem before their home matches. 30 of their 34 goals this season have been scored by native French speakers.
    • 13:20 Goalkeeper Rob Elliot makes his first Premier League start for Newcastle. He had previously started three Europa League matches, one in the Capital One Cup and one in the FA Cup. He kept clean sheets in two. All matches have been played this season.
    • 13:15 In 36 league visits to St James’ Park Southampton have won only four, most recently in 1997. A win today would see them move three points clear of their hosts. Both teams are three points clear of relegation trouble with 12 Premier League games to play.
    • 13:10 Mauricio Pochettino wants Southampton to turn impressive away performances into three points at Newcastle. He said: "We have the same expectations and ambitions. For example we want to go to Newcastle and get the three points. We know that whatever has happened in football in the past doesn't count for anything in the future, so we will keep moving forwards. We are going to encounter a very attack minded team who get forward quickly."
    • 13:05 Alan Pardew is confident Rob Elliot can stand up to the task of replacing Tim Krul. He said: "One door closes and one opens and for Robbie, it's a much-deserved door because he's really done terrific on the training ground here and played some Europa League games earlier in the season and cemented his place in the hearts of our fans. It's a big game because we're at home and it gives us 30 points if we win. With 11 games to go that would be a decent target from where we were."
    • 13:00 Defender Luke Shaw starts for Saints with midfielder Gaston Ramirez on the bench after missing the 3-1 win over Manchester City a fortnight ago. Defender Jose Fonte remains sidelined with a knee complaint with forward Guly do Prado also missing. Midfielder Adam Lallana makes his first start since suffering a knee injury on December 8.
    • 12:55 Newcastle bring in Cheick Tiote and Rob Elliot as Alan Pardew makes two changes to his side from their Premier League defeat at Tottenham. Elliot is in for the injured Tim Krul while Tiote takes over from James Perch. Yoan Gouffran retains his place after recovering from injury. Mathieu Debuchy and Davide Santon return after missing the midweek Europa League win at Metalist Kharkiv. Steven Taylor partners Fabricio Coloccini at the heart of the Newcastle defence.
