    • 71' It's suddenly a rather subdued atmosphere after the string of changes from both managers.
    • 69' Garath McCleary replaces the goalscorer Jimmy Kebe to slot into the right of midfield.
    • 68' Shane Ferguson comes on for the visitors too, with Bigirimana the man to make way.
    • 67' Indeed, it will be Cisse who departs as Ameobi comes on for Newcastle.
    • 66' The Reading fans are not happy with referee Andre Marriner as he stops play when they are counter-attacking. But Hunt had clearly fouled Gutierrez.
    • 65' Shola Ameobi looks set to come on for Newcastle, and Cisse will probably be the man to make way.
    • 64' McDermott is urging his side to keep the ball as the tempo of the game increases beyond recognition.
    • 63' Newcastle are looking very poor at the back all of a sudden, and it has coincided with Perch replacing the injured Taylor at centre back.
    • 62' What a breathtaking few minutes to turn this match around from a disappointing encounter lacking a cutting edge, to a goal spree!
    • 61' GOAL! HUNT PUTS READING BACK IN FRONT! Noel Hunt ghosts in front of two Newastle defenders to head past Harper as McAnuff is allowed to whip over a devilish delivery from the left with Ben Arfa giving him far too much space! Reading are back in front.
    • 60' Amid all the chaos, Taylor has been taken off for Newcastle, with Tavernier brought on for his Premier League debut.
    • 59' GOAL! BA HITS STRAIGHT BACK FOR NEWCASTLE! Tiote picks out Ba with a raking diagonal ball, and Ba thunders home an emphatic volley to give McCarthy no chance - what a goal! It's his fifth league goal of the season.
    • 58' GOAL! KEBE PUTS READING IN FRONT! It's an incisive break from deep as McAnuff slides a precise ball inside from the left flank, and Kebe shows real poise to pick out the near corner of the net with Harper flat-footed!
    • 57' Kebe does well on this occasion to get away from Santon and dig out a cross from the byline.
    • 56' Harper punts a long ball upfield as he looks for Cisse, and Kaspars Gorkss makes a brilliant challenge to prevent the forward getting a shot away inside the Reading box!
    • 55' It's a corner to Reading after Taylor defends against Pogrebnyak, and the big forward is causing a lot of problems now.
    • 54' Pogrebnyak goes down very heavily after yet another clash with Williamson, and the Newcastle defender is booked for this one.
    • 53' Having both had to go off the field after treatment, Taylor and Hunt are back on and seem to be okay, although moving pretty gingerly.

    • 50' McCarthy has had a very good game so far, and he beats Ba to a through ball from Ben Arfa.
    • 49' Hunt, who needed treatment in the first half, requires more now after he falls on his left shoulder.
    • 48' Williamson has looked very solid throughout, and he makes a fine sliding challenge to dispossess Hunt.
    • 47' Neither manager has seen fit to make any changes, so it's same again for both sides as Reading pass the ball around at the back.
    • 46' The second half is underway at the Madejski Stadium and, after a very forgettable first half, we will all be hoping for much better.
    • - What did you make of that first half? Who do you see coming out on top? Let me know what your prediction is for full-time... Get in touch on Twitter!
    • 45+2' That's half-time at the Madejski Stadium, and it is goalless between Reading and Newcastle after what has been a pretty poor first half. Pogrebnyak came closest with a free header, but Harper was equal to it.
    • 45+1' Shorey's delivery is too deep for Leigertwood, and that should bring an end to a very disappointing first half.
    • 45' Perch is booked for a mistimed challenge on McAnuff, and this will be a dangerous free kick. It was a very poor challenge.
    • 44' Another atrocious delivery from Karacan is collected very comfortably by Harper, and the crossing has been dire so far in this match.
    • 43' Williamson does very well to dispossess Pogrebnyak before releasing Ba, who plays in Cisse, only for the shot to be very poor from his strike partner from the edge of the Reading box!
    • 42' Bigirimana takes a corner for Newcastle, but McCarthy again manages to collect it very easily.
    • 41' Santon comfortably heads clear as Shorey's delivery fails to clear the first man, and that's poor.
    • 40' Cummings takes a tumble as he challenges with Tiote, and Reading have a free kick 30 yards out which Shorey will take.
    • 39' A deep cross to the back post from Gutierrez sees Shorey miscontrol the ball and he concedes a corner with a heavy touch.
    • 38' Kebe and Cummiings combine down the right to good effect, but Newcastle bring the ball clear eventually through Santon.
    • 37' Gutierrez runs out of options and proceeds to simply blast a wild shot way over the crossbar! That was poor.
    • 36' There continues to be nothing in it at the moment as both sides struggle to make their possession count.
    • 35' Gutierrez drops inside and looks to curl a delivery into the box, but Reading clear through Mariappa.
    • 34' Pogrebnyak does very well to hold the ball up despite pressure from Williamson, but he cannot find the onrushing Hunt.
    • 33' Tiote and Bigirimana are dropping very deep in midfield as the pair pick up the ball and look to spray it about.
    • 32' McDermott is very animated as he barks orders at his players, and Reading are desperate to make this period of possession count.
    • 31' Hunt goes down holding his head after a clash with Taylor, and he receives some treatment on the touchline.
    • 29' Real chance! McAnuff and Shorey exchange passes, before a deep cross to Pogrebnyak picks out the imposing forward perfectly, and a firm header is tipped over the crossbar by Harper!
    • 28' The home fans are continuing to enjoy good possession, but it's all in the Reading half with Newcastle comfortable at the back.
    • 27' Prior to this match, only Sunderland (6) had fired in fewer shots on target than Reading (9) in this season's Premier League.
    • 26' Gutierrez continues to see a lot of the ball outwide, but he loses the ball to Cummings as he attempts to get to the byline.
    • 25' Pogrebnyak gets in behind Taylor and Williamson, but he slices his shot horribly as the ball drifts behind for a goal kick!
    • 24' Shorey ghosts in at the back post completely unmarked as Ben Arfa fails to track him, but he slices a poor shot wide!
    • 23' FACT: Jonas Gutierrez has been fouled more often than any other player this season (16 times).
    • 22' Kebe whips over a terrific cross into the box, and Noel Hunt almost latches on to it from close range, but for alert play by Harper.
    • 21' Reading win their second corner of the game as Shorey again looks for Gorkss, but Newcastle clear through Williamson.
    • 20' Cisse is caught offside as he gets in behind Gorkss in trying to meet Ben Arfa's free kick, and there was a push on the defender as well which may have influenced the decision.
    • 19' Ben Arfa again shows terrific footwork as he jinks inside two challenges and wins a free kick 25 yards out.
    • 18' Tiote eventually gets to his feet very gingerly, and he may well have made a note of Leigertwood's challenge there.
    • 17' Tiote eventually gets to his feet, but that was a horrible challenge from Leigertwood which the referee did not spot.
    • 16' Karacan and Kebe exchange passes in midfield, before the latter punts the ball out of play with Tiote down injured on halfway.
    • 15' McCarthy is again commanding as he collects a deep cross from Santon with relative ease.
    • 14' Williamson and Pogrebnyak are having an almighty battle already as the pair challenge for every aerial ball.
    • 13' Bigirimana has been quiet so far for Newcastle in midfield, but it is the visitors who are still having the better of the possession.
    • 12' This time Ba manages to force his way down the right, but his cross into the box is very disappointing and Cisse cannot latch on to the delivery.
    • 11' Ba is dropping very deep for Newcastle, linking up the play very effectively and managing to spread the ball wide.
    • 10' Ben Arfa does superbly to drop a shoulder and beat two Reading defenders, and he almost finds Ba with a raking long ball towards the far post.
    • 9' Shorey takes a Reading free kick and sends it to the back post, but Harper manages to punch clear pretty effectively.
    • 8' Tiote drifts a promising ball to the back post, but McCarthy shows good awareness to sprint off his line and gather it.
    • 7' Gutierrez loops a long ball forward towards Ba, but it is a simple header clear for Cummings, who holds his position very well.
    • 6' It's been a scrappy opening few minutes as both sides look to keep the ball at the back but lose it when advancing up the field.
    • 5' STAT: Reading have won just one of their last 11 matches in the Premier League.
    • 4' Santon and Tiote exchange passes on halfway, and Newcastle are dominating the early possession at the moment.
    • 3' Newcastle keep the ball well inside their own half as Gutierrez sees a lot of it on halfway. The visitors are beginning to settle nicely into this match now.
    • 2' Newcastle have only won one of their five away visits to Reading (W1 D1 L3), but that was their last away game at the Madejski in April 2010 (2-1).
    • 1' The first half is under way at the Madejski Stadium, and Reading immediately get the ball down and keep it with Newcastle in their red change strip.
    • 14:55 The players emerge, and we are just five minutes from kick off now. Newcastle will be captained by Gutierrez today, and they have only won one of their five away visits to Reading.

    • 14:45 Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is, of course, going back to his old club - where he began his managerial career. He celebrates his new eight-year deal today!
    • 14:40 Reading: McCarthy, Cummings, Shorey, Mariappa, Gorkss, Karacan, Leigertwood, Kebe, McAnuff, Hunt, Pogrebnyak. Subs: Taylor, Pearce, Guthrie, McCleary, Robson-Kanu, Le Fondre, Roberts /// Newcastle: Harper, Perch, Williamson, S. Taylor, Santon, Ben Arfa, Tiote, Bigirimana, Gutierrez, Ba, Cisse. Subs: Elliot, Tavernier, Ferguson, Anita, Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Shola Ameobi.
    • 14:35 There are first Premier League starts for Mariappa, Kebe, Hunt and Cummings for Reading, while Jason Roberts is back from injury and on the bench to begin with.
    • 14:30 "You have to have a platform to play. He gets a grip of a game and you can start to dominate with somebody like Cheick," Pardew said. "He puts other teams on the back foot in many ways. He's a fantastic player and one of our most important players. We need to get him back in the team as quickly as we can."
    • 14:25 Pardew is hoping Cheick Tiote's return will help Newcastle rediscover their best form. The 26-year-old Ivory Coast international has been missing since damaging a calf muscle in the opening-day victory over Tottenham and the Magpies have rather laboured in his absence.
    • 14:20 Brian McDermott praised his side's fighting spirit: "I was proud of my team and the way they came back. I talked about identity and the last two games in the Barclays Premier League against Spurs and West Bromwich Albion I just feel we have not performed to a level."
    • 14:15 In midweek, Pavel Pogrebnyak's late backheel saw Reading come out 3-2 on top in an enthralling third-round Capital One Cup tie at QPR, in which they twice had to come from behind.
    • 14:10 Newcastle have eight points on the board from their first five games, with two wins, two draws and a single defeat. Reading, meanwhile, are bottom of the table with just a solitary point on the board after a tough start to the campaign. Premier League table
