    • - Don't forget you can watch highlights of this match, along with every Premier League game, from 00:01 on Monday morning (UK only).
    • 90+5' A frenetic end to this match as Saints earn a corner in the closing seconds, but Schwarzer is being blocked by Chaplow. Fulham launch it long, and that concludes the action for the day. A 2-2 draw.
    • 90+3' Do Prado lifts a shot over the bar from distance. Deflected. Saints pushing for an unlikely winner late on. Fulham suddenly rattled.
    • 90+2' Fonte has collected a yellow card for removing his shirt to celebrate his second goal of the day - his only two goals in the Premier League.
    • 90+1' We are into five minutes of time added on.
    • 89' GOAL! Fonte rises to power home a header from a Fox free-kick. Looks like Southampton have rescued a draw from this when all looked lost. Would you believe it?
    • 88' GOAL! Kieran Richardson sees the ball deflect off a red shirt and fly into the net. Lovely cutback from Riether. Looks like the visiting side might have nicked these three points. Can't really argue with the scoreline based on the second-half happenings.
    • 87' Do Prado takes out Karagounis with a late challenge. A goal now would surely win it for either side. Looks like Fulham would get it.
    • 86' A chance for Saints to win it at the death, but Rodriguez can only head down and over the bar from the Lallana cross.
    • 85' A bit of respite for Saints as they earn a corner. Lallana throws it in, but Rodallega is well positioned to head clear.
    • 84' Should they draw today, Southampton will have four points from their first seven Premier League matches, exactly the same as they had in the last season they were in the Premier League in 2004-05. They finished that season last and were relegated.
    • 83' It is now a rearguard action for Saints to grab this point. Fulham utterly dominant pressing the ball with some relish
    • 82' Riise free-kick comes to nothing, but Fulham continue to pile bodies forward. All Fulham in this second period.
    • 81' Saints would head for the international break out of the bottom three with a draw, but they are not assured of a point yet.
    • 80' Chaplow knocks the ball into the path of Rodriguez, but he can only chip the ball straight into the paws of Gazzaniga.
    • 79' Richardson dashes into the box, but Davis comes back well to close down space. The ball flies over the bar. Saints living on the edge here.
    • 78' Schneiderlin clatters Karagounis with a late tackle. Not sure how he avoided a second yellow for that one. A bit fortunate to escape there.
    • 77' Would be a brave man to call how this one is going to turn out. Saints have been marooned in their own half in the second half.
    • 76' Hooiveld joins a list of three other Dutch players who have scored two own goals in the Premier League – George Boateng, Arjan de Zeeuw, and Andre Oojer. None have ever scored three.
    • 75' Looks like he is going to need a stitch or two to sort out a bloodied eye. Nothing to trouble matron over and we are back with the play.
    • 74' Giorgios Karagounis needing a spot of treatment after taking one in the head from Hughes with Puncheon also challenging.
    • 73' Giorgios Karagounis replaces Steve Sidwell for Fulham.
    • 72' Chaplow with a decent little cross, but his effort is blocked by Riise and Saints have a corner.
    • 71' This match suddenly in the balance. Fulham have come roaring back here as Fox is forced to make a decent tackle to halt the run of Richardson.
    • 70' GOAL! Fulham draw level as Hooiveld prods into his own net after Riise had thrashed the ball into the box. Shot was heading wide, but the Dutch defending scores an OG trying to clear. 1-1.
    • 69' Another change coming for Southampton as Guilherme Do Prado replaces Lambert.
    • 68' Kacaniklic departs for Fulham to be replaced by Kieran Richardson for Fulham.
    • 67' Riether uncorks an effort from distance, but the ball is always on the rise as it evades the goal.
    • 66' Hughes knocking the ball into the path of Rodallega. He turns and whacks an effort at goal, but the ball spins wide off a red shirt for a Fulham corner.
    • 65' Yoshida brings down Schneiderlin, who is booked for that late challenge.
    • 64' Saints make their first change of the day as Richard Chaplow replaces Jason Puncheon.
    • 63' Fulham starting to find their feet. The ball actually came off Yoshida and hit the post rather than Sidwell.
    • 62' Appeals for a penalty after Lambert appeared to handle in the box, but the referee decides otherwise. Phew! Exciting moments in this contest.
    • 61' Gazzaniga comes up with a stunning save to halt a Rodallega header effort! Brilliant stop by the goalkeeper.
    • 60' Sidwell hits the post from Ruiz's delivery. Not sure he knew much about it. So close to a leveller for Fulham, but the ball stays out.
    • 59' Lallana and Duff collide in a 50-50 ball outside of the Saints' box, but Fulham are awarded the free-kick out wide.
    • 58' Puncheon overdoes the dribbling as Sidwell works back to break up the play. Yoshida forced to put the ball out for a Fulham corner.
    • 57' Baird launches a long hopeful ball looking for Duff, but never going to trouble Fox with that sort of delivery. All a bit too predictable.
    • 56' Hooiveld is clearly having a few problems dealing with the pace of Rodallega up front.
    • 55' Rodriguez smacks an effort at goal. Easy enough save for Schwarzer in the Fulham goal.
    • 54' Sidwell back to make another excellent tackle on Puncheon in the middle of the park.
    • 53' Sidwell does well to break up the play before Rodallega collects the loose ball. Fulham not yet building up any head of steam.
    • 52' A lovely sweeping move by the home side there. Almost in for a second goal, but not quite. Saints trying to keep possession in these early moments of the second period.
    • 51' Lambert is picked out by the run and cross of Schneiderlin, but can only lift the volley over the bar from the edge of the area.
    • 50' Davis back to halt the run of Kacaniklic. Fulham trying to find some energy after an indifferent outing in the first period of this contest.
    • 49' A booking for Schneiderlin after he clattered into a late challenge on Riise. Can't have too many complaints about that.
    • 48' Riise is on hand to block a cross from Puncheon out wide. Vital that he made that challenge. Puncheon then catches the Norwegian on the back of the head.
    • 47' Southampton lead at half-time for the first time in 11 Premier League matches since they led Aston Villa 2-0 at the break at home in April 2005, they went on to lose that match 3-2.
    • 46' We are off and running then in the second period of this contest.
    • 45+4' There goes the whistle for the break! A 1-0 lead for Southampton at half-time.
    • 45+3' Hughes ball down the middle somehow bounces over Hooiveld, but Rodallega can't gallop onto the loose ball. Real scare for Saints there.
    • 44' We are into four minutes of time added on to this half. Hughes nods at goal, but the ball is at a comfortable height for Gazzaniga to make the stop.
    • 43' Hughes having to watch the ball like a hawk as it floats through the air. Rises well to nod the ball away from Rodriguez.
    • 42' Riether delivers a dangerous enough cross, but Hooiveld is on hand to clear the danger. The corner comes to nothing for Southampton.
    • 41' Southampton will move up to 14th spot in the table as we stand. Fulham posted in the relative safety of ninth place.
    • 40' Sidwell takes a tumble. Complaining that he was fouled, but the referee doesn't want to know about it. Saints continue to look the likelier side.
    • 39' Schwarzer stands tall to keep out a solid shot from Lambert after Puncheon had played a neat little chip over the top.
    • 38' Fonte comes across to make sure Kacaniklic can t get a free shot at the home goal. Fulham really need to go up a few gears.
    • 37' Fulham forced to retreat, but continue to ship possession far too easily. Rodallega cutting a lonely figure up front at times.
    • 36' Southampton look to break through Rodriguez, who slips the ball back to Puncheon. A pretty spell of possession here from Saints.
    • 35' Some of that Fulham side need a rocket. Have been very sloppy in parts, and could easily be more than two goals behind.
    • 34' Sidwell with another key tackle to win the ball from Puncheon. Sidwell making himself known in that midfield area.
    • 33' Fulham have gone to lose their last eight Premier League away matches when they have conceded first, since recovering to draw 1-1 at Chelsea in December.
    • 32' Fulham on the ball at the back, but Schwarzer gives possession away needlessly. Not sure what Schwarzer was doing there. Lucky to avoid conceding there as Fulham hack clear Lallana's cutback.
    • 31' Kacaniklic darts beyond Yoshida with some ease, but he ends up lifting the cross straight out of play. Disappointing returns.
    • 30' Jose Fonte scores Southampton’s fourth headed goal in the Premier League this season. Only Everton with five have scored more.
    • 29' Lovely day for football, but Fulham toiling to get any change out of Saints so far as Duff collects out wide.
    • 28' Saints had the ball in the net seconds ago, but Schwarzer was clearly fouled in the air by Puncheon, who scores but sees it disallowed.
    • 27' Fonte takes out Davis and Southampton can throw this free-kick into the Fulham box, but Hangeland is on hand to head out.
    • 26' Southampton could win two Premier League home games in succession for the first time since March 2004 against Tottenham and Liverpool – a run stretching 25 matches.
    • 25' Lallana certainly not frightened to get those crosses into the box. Another dipping swerving ball of some quality, but Fulham have enough bodies back to deal with the danger.
    • 24' Ruiz throws the free-kick from out wide straight into the claws of Gazzaniga in the home goal.
    • 23' Hooiveld is penalised for a handball, and I think he is going to be booked for this after darting away from Rodallega. A harsh call there.
    • 22' Almost a second for the home side! Schwarzwer nowhere to be seen as Puncheon flicked Hooiveld's header goalwards, but Riether was positioned on the line to clear the danger.
    • 21' Riether out quickly to block the cross by Fox. Another corner to Saints here.
    • 20' Duff swings a hopeful ball into the middle, but Hughes can only nod harmlessly over the bar.
    • 19' Martin Jol not looking not overly content so far. Cuts a studious figure on the technical area bench in the visiting dugout.
    • 18' Reither with the shot at the goal, but Davis does enough to clear the danger. Priceless block there.
    • 17' Glorious chance for Lambert to add the second as he slips the ball wide from Rodriguez's pass. Fine move, but the finish is not there. We remain at 1-0 in favour of Saints.
    • 16' There has been at least two goals scored in each of Southampton’s last 18 league matches, since they won 1-0 at Leeds in the Championship in March.
    • 15' Fulham earn a corner after a decent run up the park by Riise. Ball breaks to Hangeland in the area, but he can't control the loose ball as the red shirts whack it clear.
    • 14' Saint looking well organised at the back as Puncheon tries to get himself and his team moving up the park.
    • 13' Jose Fonte has become the second Portuguese player to score for Southampton in the Premier League after Luis Boa Morte, who scored once for the club, in Southampton’s 2-1 away defeat at Watford in December 1999.
    • 12' Sidwell fairly crashing into the challenges out there. Perhaps fortunate to avoid collecting a yellow card. Or perhaps not.
    • 11' Lallana and Sidwell collidle going for a high ball in the air. Play stopped to enable Lallana to receive some treatment here.
    • 10' Southampton have conceded in each of their last 15 Premier League matches, since a 1-0 home win against Tottenham in March, 2005.
    • 9' Ball breaks to Hughes at the back post, but Lambert is across quickly to make the tackle as the visiting player was about to pull the trigger.
    • 8' Sidwell and Rodriguez collide going for the ball, but the free-kick is awarded to the visitors.
    • 7' Early change for Saints then as Hooiveld is wheeled on to take over from Richardson.
    • 6' Hectic start to this match it must be said. Richardson is going to be carted off here with some sort of muscle injury. Early blow to Saints.
    • 5' Rodallega spinning away from a couple of home defenders, but his control lets him down as the ball runs behind for a goalkick to Fulham.
    • 4' GOAL! Fonte glances a header into the net from Lallana's corner. Southampton have the lead after only four minutes. What a start to the day for Saints.
    • 3' Lambert rises at the back post from the corner, but can't get the header on target as he nods wide of goal. Decent chance. We remain at 0-0.
    • 2' Fox pumps a high ball into the box. Comes off the top of the head of Hangeland and goes past for a corner to the home side.
    • 1' Fulham get this match off and running.
    • 13.25 Teams in the tunnel. We are almost ready to go in this one. Southampton in red Fulham in not so traditional all black with white and gold shooting across the front of the shirt. Interesting design.
    • 13.20 Mark Schwarzer starts for Fulham, and becomes the first player over the age of 40 to play for the club in the Premier League, after his 40th birthday yesterday. Fulham’s Chris Baird returns to play against his former side. Baird played for Southampton between 2003-2007, and started in the 2003 FA Cup final, which Southampton lost 1-0 to Arsenal in Cardiff.
    • 13.15 MATCH ODDS Southampton (7/4) Fulham (7/4) Draw (22/9)
    • 13.10 Martin Jol (Fulham): “This transfer window was probably the worst ever because I really thought I would keep my best players besides Clint Dempsey. I knew Dimitar Berbatov was on the fringes and thought if I can add him maybe we can go for the top six. Then in a couple of days it all changed. I was quite frustrated. Everybody tells me that we need to be in the top 10 even when Dembele and Dempsey have gone. The only thing I can do is keep my mouth shut and work hard.”
    • 13.05 Nigel Adkins (Southampton): "You should always be positive because you’ve got to look to win games. We do play good passing football and that was demonstrated in good spells in the second half and at home we are very effective in doing that, but it’s about winning games of football. You’ve got to score goals to win games of football and, likewise, you’ve got to keep them out at the other end."
    • 13.00 Fulham striker Mladen Petric misses out with a calf problem. The Croatia international suffered the injury in training and his absence is another blow for the Cottagers, whose manager Martin Jol is without Dimitar Berbatov (hip/upper thigh). Simon Davies (hip) and Mahamadou Diarra (knee) are also sidelined, but Kieran Richardson is on the bench.
    • 12.55 Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin returns for Sunday's Premier League clash with Fulham after a knee injury. The French midfielder missed last weekend's defeat at Everton with the complaint but was back in training on Friday. Jack Cork faces a bit longer out with an injury to his left knee, while goalkeeper Artur Boruc waits to be included despite turning out for the Under-21s this week.
    • 12.50 Teams: Southampton: Gazzaniga, Richardson, Fonte, Yoshida, Fox, Puncheon, S. Davis, Schneiderlin, Lallana (c), Lambert, Rodriguez..subs: K. Davis (GK), Hooiveld, Ward-Prowse, Guly, Mayuka, Chaplow, Reeves////Fulham: Schwarzer, Riise, Hangeland (c), Baird, Sidwell, Ruiz, Duff, Hughes, Rodallega, Riether, Kačaniklic..subs: Stockdale (GK), Kelly, Senderos, Kasami, Karagounis, Richardson, Briggs

  1. Is Nigel Atkins on the take or he's just a blatant fool...This guy is sabotaging his own team ?t As I have continually stated since the Man U game it is time for the Southampton CEO to act as CEO and sack him before it is too late.

From Al, on Tue 9 Oct 13:45
  2. Again the Southampton manager has taken off two of our best players, whilst we were in a winning position, and finished up struggling to get a draw. When will he learn that Chaplow and Do Piro (don't know how to spell his name) are not good enough. What did either do once they were on the pitch?

From PETER, on Mon 8 Oct 2:42
  3. how long would the suits that make the rules put up with it if every player both sides took off their shirts when a goal is scored. After two goals there would be nobody left on the pitch.Get rid of the stupid bloody rule for good

From Peter, on Sun 7 Oct 15:41
  4. One way to stop this stupid rule of being booked for celebrating a goal would be if every player on the pitch took off their shirts (both teams). After two goals there would not be a player left on the pitch.

  5. An O.G. and a deflection saved Fulham.Saints must learn to get it sewn up early.

  8. Oh no NIGEL - you have done it again - taken off Rickie Lambert too soon and left on E. Mayuka who is playing a terrible game - I hope I am wrong but I think we will lose this and it will again be your fault NIGEL - you have to get your substitution's right and at the appropriate time in the game - come on SAINTS - win please - in spite of your inept manager!!.....................

From Morty, on Sun 7 Oct 13:10
  20. Well, this looks promising, knowing that Southampton is yet to play a boring game. I predict few goals in this match if Southampton won't waste chances as vs Wigan for example. Anyhow, I reckon Fulham's experience will prevail.
